Hello people
IMO Blackstone is the best device ever and right now the best device on market I have held it and played a bit with friend's device and it rulez. Far better than iPhone (I have iPod Touch and I know what it is all about OMG - although as a MP3 Player it is the best around). And I really want to buy one.
But it is little expensive in my country so here is the question.
Remember what apple did? Lot of people bought iPhone and right after that new iPhone was released.
I am really afraid that if I will buy Blackstone (I want to buy it in february) and there will be something better right after that or maybe there will be newer WM systems on these devices or etc.
Are there chances that this can happen? That eg I will buy Blackstone with WM 6.1 and really shortly there will be new blackstone with WM 6.5 or something else making it even better?
What do you think??
Thank you.
I don't think WM 6.5 is coming anytime soon. Perhaps at the end of the year.

If you can wait, I'd say wait a month. Microsoft will give more details at the Mobile World Congress next month.

That's Apple for you though, the only company to not given a flying **** about the customer.
They limit you in every single way possible to use a dumb downed device that is only for dumb people.
Go for the HD, you will love it.
I think three to four months from now there might be other devices that you might want to test drive then, like the Palm Pre, the next iPhone, Touch HD-variants with better graphics processing. Some will be presented indeed at the next Mobile World Congress, but then again, it will take time for these new devices to reach your market.
Upgrading your HD operating system to 6.5 should be no problem, I would not worry about that. At some point you will have to make your hardware decision, and always face the risk that three months later there will be a device even more desireable. I think none of us need a HD to survive, but its nice to have.
In my view for the next three months there will be no device better than the HD commercially available.
I guess in the next three months we may have announcements (official) from HTC on new devices for 2009. But, these will not be in the shops until June/July.
I would say "go for it" now. There is always a possibility that another killer device will be appearing so if you wait for new ones now why not wait again in summer for the Windows 6.7 (!!) devices ...
We're in a post-Christmas, credit-crunched lull at the moment. Much better "next gen" devices based around better processors etc are just around the corner - I'd steer very clear of the HD, it's a dead end.
Thanks guys
I guess I will buy it. If you say there will be no problems updating to newer OS and other stuff.
Yep, I don't dislike iPhone, but Iphone is not what I want.
Blackstone, w8 for me, I am coming

Just a warning: there is no guarantee that a ROM upgrade will be made available. HTC have not promised this.
All you can say now is that the HD may be flashed with a new ROM. The supply of that ROM depends on HTC and the excellent enthusiasts here in XDA (there are lots of alternate ROMs available already for the HD).
I personally use a standard ROM and I'm happy with it.
3GSM
Maybe, we could just wait the 3GSM in Barcelona in mid February to know more about next WinMo releases. Even if MS release it on Feb, the first devices will not appear before this summer, (if it's the same way as for WM6.1).
HTC will maybe provide us with a new ROM as for some of WM6.0 devices (the elf update was only available for a short period). And if they don't, I'm sure the ROM cookers from the Blackstone ROM forum will do
My main concern about the HD is battery life,I had the Diamond and it was so bad I bought a Nokia for the first time in my life, nice machines that last 4 hours on a single charge are not mobiles.

I am happy with the HD battery. It easily lasts a day of FULL use (BT for calls, GPS infrequent use and 1 hour of podcast listening).
But, I have no need for long-play videos. I suspect this is a weak spot for the battery.
The X1 still attracts alot of attention, many people out their are aware of how popular the GayPhone is , or in more recent times the Blackberries and Android Handsets. . . . BUT........

Chose the Sony Ericsson X1 has her prop of choice for the 2010 Film, The Bounty Hunter http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1038919/
Watch the Film, its good and you will see plenty of scenes with the X1.
Its good to know that there are still celebrities aswell as me running around using their X1's - I just wonder wether she visits XDA?
lol! wasnt there a thing about paris hilton having an x1 too? i'm sure i saw a pic somewhere
http://pocketnow.com/smartphone/could-paris-hilton-be-using-a-sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-or-x2
I doubt she join this forum. Since XDA-Devs looked complicated for busy actress like her(just my opinion).
Wow, if Paris use X1 / X2, woah, WM is not that advance, right? Even Paris can operate it. (no offense)
Paris hilton isn't stupid at all. All she has been doing so far is pretending to be stupid and people throw their monney after her. Thats highly intelligent. The stupid ones are those who take the bait and pay for the s... she has been selling.
Nonetheless it's still not a real honor if she has ever used a X1. People like her should use an Iphone
Paris uses Blackberry..
Do we really care actually?
Really, up to now that I did not know if Paris uses Blackberry or X1 or iPhone I was unable to sleep at night... lol
PLEASE NOTE: THIS THREAD IS CREATED BECAUSE I SINCERLY LIKE SE AND NOT FOR BASHING SE. IF YOU WANT TO TROLL OR BASH SE CREATE A NEW THREAD
Dear Sony,
I am one of your avid Fan. Right from the beginning I was using SE phones only. To Mention a few I have used F500i, J230, K750, W810i, K810i, W980, W705 and now X10. So as you can see I was using SE right from 2004. I can say “If you have Once used Sony Erricson, you will always use SonyEricsson”.
Let me be very clear. I love you so much. I have defended SE in many forums from many trolls and iSheep bashers for many years. I did this because I love SE and I believe you will always gives me what is best out there.
But off late you are not living up to your fans belief. What the is wrong with you?
The last master piece from you was W810i. After that all your products disappoint me. K810i, W910i and W980i all of them were total disappointment for me. Off late all your products follow a certain approach, you will announce a very good product and then there will tremendous delays in bringing it to the market, after that i will have many software bugs and hardware failures. So before the product becomes complete it will become outdated..
If you refuse to believe I will give you proof.
Do you know W810i was announced in Feb ’06 and availability was Mar ’06.
K810i was announced in Feb’07 and availability was Apr 07.
W980 was announced in Feb’ 08 and availability was Aug 08.
W705 was announced in Oct’ 08 and availability was May 09.
Satio was announced in Feb’09 and availability was Nov ’09.
And Xperia X1, X2 and X10 every kid knows its delays and bugs.
What happened to you SE? There were long delays. Even after delays none of these phones lived up to its hype ( W980,W705, Satio and X10). You were the first to announce many technologies (8MP, 12MP camera, snapdragon with android phone, even 4" screen) but you were the last to bring it to the market with sky high prices. Where is my Old SE? where I can get all latest tech in a budget phone? Where are you SE?
And Like a Crown for all your failure, the X10 2.1 update. When other are pushing to bring 2.2 for their flag ship device, you cant even bring 2.1 to your Flag ship phone. Instead of bringing 2.2, you are back porting live wallpaper and 5 home screens to 1.6.
WHY THE HELL YOU ARE RE-INVENTING THE WHEEL?
Stop wasting your precious resources in back porting things. Move more resource to bring 2.2 to X10. If you cant alteast please open the bootloader.
X10 had everything to make you success but you missed it.. Good Design, Good Hardware (at Nov '09 nobody had this hardware) and Good Name (You have loyal fan base) and Perfect time (Think if it had been released during Christmas time).
X10 could have been your own iPhone or Droid. It could have been your golden egg but you missed it. What going on in your mind SE? If I can think all these, cant the armani wearing million dollar salaried EO's think? Have you lost it?
We have defended you so long SE but you are now disappointing us more. You even embarrass us by saying you turned down google (X10 as Nexus one would have been epic). Please don’t cheat us more SE. We love you but there is a limit for our patience. If you keep cheating us then Even God (I believe he is there) cant save you.
All I can say is please bring out Froyo update for X10 soon and with no bugs (We dont want 1000 new features we just want Bug less phone). After all you are a more talented company and you certainly deserve a second chance like Moto.
Please SE don’t disappoint us again and save yourself from bankruptcy. Please Make us Believe
---- A sincere, beaten, disappointed and embarrassed Sony Ericsson Fan .
A couple points:
- If you ever want to be taken seriously in any capacity, refrain from foul language.
- Also, refrain from referring to things as "iCrap". Shows a lack of class.
- Live Wallpapers and 5 home screens are default 2.1 features, not being backported from 2.2
- Pricing depends on region. In Japan, the United States, and several other countries, the X10 is the cheapest or one of the cheapest smartphones available. It's free in many markets.
- The X10 is Docomo's highest selling smartphone of all time, and is poised to become their best selling phone of the year/ever. Japan is the world's second biggest market.
Good day sir!

No offense but what do you think you reach by sending this kind of letter to a CEO? No matter which company he is leading, this really is a "straight in the dustbin" letter for those managers...
Again no offense, you wrote down what you think, but I want to bet he don't read till the half of it, to try that out, you might put in the last sentence something about him having an affair with a dead horse, if you dont get anything back, I proved my point....

Gotta agree with PollPixx.
imo they don't go past the subject of e-mails... snail mail is a thing of past.
moreover they don't go over this stuff personally but their PA's etc do... separate the junk out and send in the "really important" stuff... but only god knows what that is (apart from them )
Looking away from the language, it is a fine letter to SE.
I have also only had SE phones private, starting with the old
Ericsson 318, Erisson t68
t280, t610, k530, k750, k810, k850
c905
w595, w715, w760
x10, x10 mini, x10 mini pro
My 3 kids have all had SE W595 and now they all have X10 mini.
Also i have only used SE for work in many years, currently i have a x10 mini pro...
At work it have been me that have decided what phones we have bought and used for the last 3-4 years, so i have been the main reason that we have only bought SE phones...
- that is over 250 SE phones all together, at work...
(I know that it is NOTHING in the big picture looking from SE headquarters, still it must count for something)
In this answer i just want to ad my own dissapointment thoug...
The main problems is that the big X10 is missing the FM-radio, missing the better headset connection and missing the one finger zoom, while the two cheap small X10 mini models have those things.
What is that about SE ?
Why have you decided to make 3 different X10 series phones, and then at the same time make the TOP model, the one with the weakest features ?
I am really dissapointed with you SE, the lack of updates, the missing features in the X10 top model.
From (i think it was) the old T610, or was it K750, and all the way up to now, my SE phones have allways had FM radio build in, and that was for me a loved feature, then you decide to release the X10 without FM Radio, and after that you again decide to put in FM radio in the mini´s ??
I know i didn´t read close enough in the specs when i bought my X10, but i really was expecting that there would be FM radio in an SE phone, and offcource there would be in the top model, no question about that. What a dissapointment !
An other lack is that tracker (step counter) that was build in i think all the newer phones eg. W595 and W715, now with X10 i again see a loved feature removed, why ?
I find it strange that good working features that SE implement in your phones, is removed again from newer phones.
Features that actually IS the SE brand, features that we learn to love and use every day, you decide to remove.
Why ?
I don´t get the point in making that huge effort to make a few nice new features like timescape and mediascape, and becource of those features you have been left behind, and are currently stock on Android 1,6, and right now we all are waiting for S/E-Android 2.1,, ONLY Android 2,1 when other companies like HTC are moving away from Android 2.1 and on to Android 2.2...
S/E why not release Android 2.2 fast and be the leader in the marked.
Then let people decide for them self IF they want the S/E signature-features like TimeScape and MediaScape when you have those ready later.
Just make new features avalible from your fine PlayNOW system just like you did with CreaTouch.
Why have you at the same time decided to lock down the bootloader of the X10 when Android is a brand new OS you are just learning ??
- release the bootloader now, and look what happen, learn from it and then when you are actually doing a better job coding the OS than other DEV´s on the www, you can decide if you again will lock down bootloaders in your future android phones.
At the moment it make no sense at all, not to let your dev-team learn all they can about what can be done with the hardware you have made.
The hardware is actually really great, and solid build, it is "only" the software that is the problem...
Now i move on to the strange thing about wide range of current phone models you have on the marked.
Why that many, is that really nessesserry at all, really ??
Why not make an effort to be the absolutly best there is on a mutch smaller range of phones, only focus on a few models, perhaps only android phones, as you have said that you want to be world leaders in Android powered phones in a few years anyway.
As i see it you only need one X10 model more to have a complete set of phones, so there will be at least one that souit everyone.
Add one more X10 mini and make it with an old style slide out t9 keyboard.
At last.
I have also been thinking about jumping over to an other brand, and perhaps also look for other phones next time we need some at work, as i am that dissapointed with SE...
But private i find my self thinking that i perhaps just should wait and get the X12 when that is released...
Can i really be that stupid, REALLY ???
- dispite my dissapointment with SE, really ???
SE you are SO lucky that you have a big and loving fan base...
At work i KNOW that SE have the best hardware and the lack of features i mentioned here is no problem in work use...
Again SE you are REALLY lucky that you have a big loving fan base...
Just DON`T dissapoint us anymore !

I won't bother replying to the rest...but, my X10 has one.
It's called the Android Market, you can download anything, including pedometers.
At least they all look familiar and have similar sounding names - X5, X8, X10, X10 mini, X10 mini pro. SE are trying to satisfy each segment of the market, just like their competitors HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Nokia do.
@iead1
Is there something you're not telling us? Like who you work for.
Please dont embarass yourself. Your grammar is atrocious.
How about buying an AD on newspaper, and then I'm sure the SE CEO will see this.
sony in general is a big comany, my family has been buying sony things for at least 20 years (got an old and really old stereo which still works o.0)
they always had the best things in the marker, we even say if it's a sony is good
in the past I never used SE, just used nokia or motorola but when i saw the x1 i just felt in love, but when I knew that no wm 6.5 would arrive to it i was so pissed we paid a lot for it to get nothing more, same applies for the x10
i know companies want to get more profits but where's the customer's satisfaction? they use to think that is better to have loyal customers for a long term instead of just having a lot for few months (kinda the thing is going on today)

Yes, but those on marked is far from working as good as the one in eg. w715...
- and if you was actually using it, you would know that ;-)
Anything ?
- then throw me a link to an fm radio application for the x10, or to one finger zoom perhaps, or to any of the other things that the x10 don't have, that the mini's and all the old SE phones have... *LOL*
Send from my X10, still without 2.1 *&%#
I think that the live wall paper and home screens reference has to do with the SE Japan release of Ambientime which has 5 home screens, pseudocode live wallpapers and a new lock/unlock swipe which is more animated.
That app looks like work that was done as an assessment of the phone's potential to do live wallpapers. It's sort of interesting even if it makes the phone laggy and lockup.

Google - please buy HTC!!
yes but consider this
if the US staff if being changed or they are leaving on their own, the motherbase is still in Taiwan, if anything those leaving are those who failed HTC so far

HTC sees more top execs disappear as Facebook fouls First launch
and little less drama
Nonetheless, HTC’s future is about more than just a few high-profile staff looking elsewhere for their next challenge. The company has apparently pushed through its HTC One production issues, with output said to double this month alone, and the unaudited sales figures from April indicated that demand for the flagship was certainly there. HTC has been pushing ahead with cost-cutting, too, axing little-used services like HTC Watch in less popular locations.

This from that article would be an absolute disaster.
A reshuffle in how HTC makes its strategy decisions could be part of the reason behind the shake-up, it’s suggested, with the company shifting product planning to the Taipei HQ and potentially leaving the Seattle office out of the loop.Asian companies don't know how to market toward Western audiences and HTC's been historically bad. Controlling it all out of Taiwan would just make things worse. And if you look at where the people went most are in better jobs with bigger and growing companies so "house cleaning" doesn't seem like what's behind their departure. People on the inside have a more accurate view of the present and future and mass exodus is never a good sign.
Here's what Forbes said...
Once an undeniable power in the U.S. smartphone market (second only to Apple ’s iPhone in 2011), the Taiwan-based HTC Corp. is suffering the latest bump in what has been a slow, drawn-out stumble.
The company’s chief product officer, Kouji Kodera, has left the company, according to a report by The Verge. Kodera’s departure is one of a number of recent HTC fence-jumpers, which includes vice president of global communications Jason Gordon, global retail marketing manager Rebecca Rowland, director of digital marketing John Starkweather, and product strategy manager Eric Lin, according to the report. HTC Asia’s CEO Lennard Hoornik has also chosen to leave the company following two months of leave time.
This exodus of talent only worsens a grim outlook for the company in 2013. The HTC One – the company’s latest iPhone-esque smartphone – has not been the game-changer the company needed to bounce back from poor sales in 2012. Investors have taken notice, as they tend to do (eventually) and HTC’s share prices have fallen to $288 from $432 [the One X/S/V launch] this time last year on the Taiwan exchange.http://www.forbes.com/sites/karsten...retreating-in-the-face-of-iphone-and-samsung/
The thing with Eric Lin is that even when he first "introduced" himself to the community at large for I believe it was pocketnow he came off as a very abrasive and quite negative representative for HTC (and that was in 2009). In terms of PR he was a bad move by the company...In that it doesn't shock me in the least that he is a very outspoken critic of HTC America.
Even speaking with him at some of the live events he's still extremely abrasive...he's a really bad spokesperson for even a company performing well

Their basing their conclusion on HTC's guidance for Q2 2013 which is below (by 21%) what they actually achieved in Q2 2012 with the X/S/V and that at this point last year their stock price is 33% lower with the One on the market than when the X/S/V were on the market for the same amount of time. I was hoping for HTC's sake that today's big Verizon announcment was that they'd be carrying the One. It turned out to be a partnership with Jennifer Lopez aimed at the U.S. Latin market.

Regarding this "shake up", just because people have left the company doesn't neccasrily mean that the company is going down, as posted by one of them and an article, it sounds like they weren't happy working at HTC....... how that relates to "the end of HTC", please explain......... besides, it might be a good thing as posted, their marketing is crap (much better this year but still not good enough to match Samsung) and this is one of the most important areas as to if a product will do well combined with sales commissions, Samsung know fine well how it important it is, otherwise they wouldn't be throwing such a stupid amount of money at that department let alone increasing it substantially each year, that is largely why they are so popular and sell so many units as has been proven even if a product gets better reviews and is better overall and is preferred by the majority of users across forums/polls etc. Looking at both devices the other day, HTC one shoved with all the other devices where as the galaxy s4 has its very own stand and the device isn't clamped down anywhere as much and you even have a wee display notice beside the phone saying something like "call for assistance to demonstrate the features" and everywhere you look, you just see GS 4 posters.... this is where HTC and other companies fail big time and is what cost them their sales, X company could have the very best product by miles, however, what is the point if you have Y company that has a device, which isn't as good but are paying/bribing the shops more in order (more than other companies) to push their devices onto the customers?? In that situation, what do you think is going to appeal to the average joe customer more....
Plus HTC need to branch out to more market areas in order to create more brand presence as at the minute, average joes probably view HTC like what we view ZTE etc.
The GS 4 is not the best selling phone purely because of the SD slot and/or removable battery and/or its software gimmicks/features (maybe it is for the likes of most of the people on this forum but not for the mass consumer i.e. average joes and you can quite clearly see this isn't the case as apple aren't having problems with their iphones and sales.....) or/and because it is free of faults (how many note II and GS 3 devices died last year from the sudden death issue?? Surely that would leave a bad taste??? Not to mention when it took Samsung so long to admit that there was a problem let alone fix it.....EDIT: Oh and their awful repair service too! Blaming it on water damage......), GS 4 has more serious issues compared to the one currently i.e. over heating, poor performance in real world usage, screen issues (be it pink/purple tint, red pixels, screen glass or/and AMOLED breaking/cracking with slight pressure), audio issues etc. The one's issues are mainly cosmetic and some aren't even "issues" i.e. that tiny tiny gap at the top/bottom which doesn't even measure in at 1mm can hardly be consider an issue since it normal as the speaker covers aren't part of the zero gap body, if that is consider an issue then every single phone has that issue especially the GS 4, check the camera lens area and back cover parts:

Heck Samsung could have just released the exact same phone as the GS 3 but with that 1080P screen and they would have still have sold the same amount as what they currently have with the GS 4.
It is just like everything these days especially the game and film industry, you hype and market the **** out of the stuff, they sell millions, however, be bloody awful, you then have your GOTY and film of the year that doesn't sell as well due to the lack of marketing.

Anyway, back on topic, as I was saying, this could be a good thing, getting new and better people in to carry out those jobs and get some fresh ideas.
Sounds like the CEO needs to go as well......
Guys and girls, it would be nice if we all go watch new HTC commercial, like it, favorite and share :highfive:
Let's get this puppy rolling!
It's good to remind that this commercial actually features the HTC One in video, the HTC One (M7) device is used throughout the film and in the car wash section RDJ asks to boost the options in which the speakers volume is increased considerably
Also seems no one else noticed this, but check out the acronyms passing fast at the end of the video
there are many and it's genius, here is one of them
HTC: Hawaiian Tickle Ceremony
Associating with RDJ is a great idea. He appeals to a wide and varied demographic. With any marketing the message is only a part of a campaign. The other, and arguably more important, is quantity of impressions, repetition of the message, and breadth of its delivery.
In its most daring effort yet to stay in league with Apple and Samsung, HTC announced a massive marketing campaign Monday starring "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. The Taiwanese phone maker confirmed it has signed Downey to a two-year deal, which is reportedly worth $12 million. The new campaign, called "Change," is intended to get consumers talking about HTC once again. The company said the campaign will last at least two years and cost about $1 billion -- the same as HTC's global marketing budget last year.

HTC's spending the same as they did last year ($500MM annually) over the next two years with the RDJ campaign. Motorola's spending that just to launch the Moto X. So time will tell if a really clever campaign with a well-recognized spokesperson will accomplish HTC's objective. And that objective isn't to make the current faithful like them more it's to regain market share lost to other smartphone companies. And that group needs to see and remember the message (and of course HTC) which is going to be a challenge with HTC’s budget.
I love this new ad campaign!
That was great. Fantastic production value and acting - this is a great campaign, awesome to see from HTC
I think the campaign is absolutely brutal. You get one of the best brand ambassadors in RDJ and this is the best you can come up with?
I agree. It's so bad it's almost hard to watch. I don't know how you guys like this....

It's a brilliant commercial. It gets people talking about HTC. It's weird, it's witty, and most importantly it's different than anything else out there. The one's that do not like it should watch it a couple of times, you catch little things that make it better each time.

So you've seen one commercial from what will possibly be a 2 year marketing campaign, and based on that the entire campaign is brutal?
Gettin a little ahead of yourself I think.

I've shown a couple of people and they thought it was hilarious for a phone commercial, they'll probably show a couple more each and so on... Definitely works

finally they got the attention they deserve
And i think they are on the right track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5cZvbOisk4
Really nice video from Placebo and the One seems to be spot on, although it is kind of a negative representative of technology (even bad publicity is good ). One thing bothers me: i can't seem to find the nudity augmenting app in google.store. Anyone?!
You guys are kind of missing the point of what the new campaign needs to do and are expressing your "feelings" toward it. In Q2 there were 45% more smartphones sold then last year. HTC’s Q2 revenue was down 28%. So something’s caused/causing HTC to lose customers in a burgeoning market at a faster rate than their competitors (LG and Sony’s YOY market share improved in Q2). Paying RDJ $6MM a year for two years and coming up with an edgy offbeat campaign is designed to reverse that trend and its success solely lies in how much additional revenue and market share HTC gains because of it.
So who buy’s (or doesn’t buy) HTC’s phones?
People that have followed them since the G1, like their products, consider themselves loyal to the brand, or like to align with the "underdog" and consider themselves contrarians (HTC as the "anti" Samsung).
People who are aware of HTC, may have lost track of them, and are neutral toward owning an HTC phone.
People who don't know HTC (unaided awareness), don’t really follow technology on the whole, view a smartphone dispassionately (it’s a tool), and buy what they like based on what’s available at their two-year contract renewal.
People that don’t like HTC. They may have had a bad experience, be loyal to another brand, or simply decided that, compared to other choices, they don’t like HTC or their products.
I’d assume the majority in this forum are heavily weighted to category 1 with some people who either found or came back to HTC because of the One which are in category 2. For those groups, since their already loyal and aware and probably bought the One, the advertising campaign is simply a “feel good” and won’t do anything to help HTC meet its objectives. Once a brand (any brand) has poisoned a customer marketing alone statistically doesn’t get them to come back so there won’t be a lot of category 4 purchasers converted because of the campaign.
So category 3 is the biggest opportunity. That and elevating the opinion of HTC and propensity to buy for those in category 2. The success of the campaign rests on how well it appeals to those two categories and will be measured by a reversal in HTC’s decline. So HTC loyalists can “love” the campaign and people can comment on its innovativeness but the only thing that matters is whether or not it brings in new customers and revenue. It's not going to have an impact in Q3 because it's almost over and HTC's projecting their first loss for that quarter. So we won't know how effective the campaign is (or is starting to be, it runs for two years) until the end of Q4. But there will be a slew of campaigns running pre-holiday including the LG G2, Moto X, SGS4 (it's still new to people that are using older phones), Note 3, Sony Honomi, and iP5s/c. So there's lot of messaging that HTC's campaign will be competing against and Apple and Samsung do a lot of saturation which is particularly hard to be memorable against because repetition trumps the creative in driving awareness.
Nice!! HTC is doing a much better job with advertising this device. After I bought my One, three of the people I talked to about it's first words were "Oh I just saw a commercial for that!" That has NEVER been the case with HTC before! Great phone, deserves their marketing attention.
I honestly can't say I enjoyed the ad... I wish it were more minimalist.
It fits really well with rdj personality, it's really different for an advert, catches attention, gets people talking. I think its really clever advert. I honestly can't think of a better way to use RDJ, follow-up adverts will probably include him using the phone of something simialr, this is definitely HTC on the right track

Alright, at least two people who I know watched the ad went on ebay and brought their own one. I'd put them into category 3. I'm impressed. The ad at least got them to do a bit of research (I assume) or they just impulsively brought the one upon watching the ad. Thought I'd share this, someone else might find this interesting

RDJ is a gift and a curse. A gift because it'll create a lot of attention for the campaign. A curse because if all people talk about and remember are those "RDJ commercials” as opposed to "HTC's new commercials" it'll do squat for HTC and win awards on the "creative" side and fail miserably on the "effectiveness (EG: revenue)" side. In advertising/marketing you never want the creative to upstage or overpower the product/service it’s there to support. I showed the ad to my "category 3" non-geek friends without any intro. When it was over I asked "what was it for?" None of them knew. Hardly a relevant focus group but interesting nonetheless.
