hello, i really admire you guys here at xda , and your site has been a massive help in making my devices less ordinary . i have a question about the htc pure , im curious also if anyone else has had the same problem . whenever i use my htc pure as a wifi hotspot using a utility i got from this site "toms utility " it gets real hot , and starts refreshing the connection over and over , or stops data transmission all together until it cools down. any input or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated , thank you very much in advance .

Its pretty normal but you can try a different radio, see if that helps.
I would suggest installing a battery utility that measures the heat like Batti, often when mine gets hot I will pull off the battery cover and shoot it with a little freon (duster) to cool it down.
You're probably just seeing a worst case situation. Using 3G data heavily (downloading a large file, for example) makes the phone hot, even in the good reception area I live in. This is probably worse if you're in a weak signal area as the radio has to transmit at full power. Using wi-fi heavily also makes it hot, so I imagine both together is just too much.
It probably depends what you're doing. If it's only light surfing, it'll only get warm when actually transferring data (both 3G and wi-fi). If it's streaming or downloading, that's possibly what's killing it.

I'll leave it to others to give advice on which radio to use. It might be worth installing danielherrero's (one of our own developers) bandswitch application http://www.commmgrpro.com/ You could use this to limit phone to certain bands only with an easy interface. Would allow you to check out exactly what is causing the drain on battery.

thanks for helps
Sorry, got me stumped. So with no radios on the consumption is double that when wifi is on!!
Let's see if anyone else has any suggestions.
Mike
infinite loop perhaps??
What ROM/Radio versions are you running? EDIT:: seen the ROMs, perhaps try updating to a newer dopod ROM??
Also what 3rd party apps have you got installed??
(RESCO was a ***** for doing this to my TyTN)
the exact same thing happens to me. i've charged it completely, it obviously got really hot. usually at this point, i would take out the battery and let it cool off before turning the phone on, otherwise it would get even hotter and eat 300+ mA and drain the battery fast. this time i opened the wi-fi connection and immediately the battery status dropped from 332 mA to 130, and stayed down there. the phone even cooled down a bit. after i've turned off the wi-fi, it started draining and heating again. what can i do? is it a software or hardware problem? i'm using schaps 4.31, 1.47.30.10, have google maps, palringo, opera, tcpmp installed
I have the same behavior, too.
But not yesterday evening. After restarted it for the xxx time it staid at 28mA. This was so until I left the train in the morning. It went up to 347mA and I am not able to get it back to 28.
I am using the default HTC ROM "HTC_TyTN_GER_3.54.257.2_103_6275_1.47.00.10_108".
I also tried several other ROMS (Schaps, Pays ...) and different radio versions as "HERM_Radinly_1.16.00.00_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.00.00_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.00.10_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.30.10_CustomRUU" and "HERM_Radinly_1.54.30.10_CustomRUU"
but none of them helped me out.
I also done the Exchange Server trick, deactivated 3G and even deactivated all GPRS or EDGE possibilities from provider side.

Phone gets hot
Hi,
I am not an expert but I had the same problem with my phone, I solved the problem by moving some software I had on my storage card to the internal memory, (in my case it was the encryption and additional language support software I had)
Another way is to look for the Power management tweak in this forum which helps to manage your storage cards power draining,
Sound strange but it worked for me.
Good luck
Hi,
the new battery has arrived.
There is no change in battery draining
What I recognized is, that if the battery is "cold" the power consumtion is around 28mA. But after a call it is getting warm and uses 10 time so much of power.
Please don't laugh now:
I put the battery inside my freezer for 5 minutes. Put it back inside the mobile ...
... 28mA.
If I keep it cold it stays fine for 3 days.
There must be any solution on that.

My mogul randomly stops charging when Im on the phone or on the internet for awhile (connection sharing via wifi) . After seeing a blurb in the manual about how the battery will stop charging I decided to try something crazy (stupid actually,so dont do this yourself of mosture could damage your phone). I sprayed some cold spray on the battery. The phone suddenly started charging again. After 10 minutes,it stopped again. More coldspray and it charged again. Its pretty clear that the battery is overheating. I have a replacement coming this week, hopefully it will be better. Is anyone else having this problem?
It appears on further examination that this happens mostly when Im running wifi with the power setting set for max range and sharing the internet connection. It helps if I open the keyboard (seems to improve cooling). It seems to run pretty cool when Im just sharing over the cable with no programs running. I have also noticed the problem when playing games or running programs while talking on the phone. I see alot of people looked but no one else reports having this problem. Ill post some further information when I get the new phone monday.
Ditto
I have two Moguls in the family. Both had the same intermittent symptoms. We came to the same conclusion. Turn off Wifi when not in use and close background apps when not in use. This seems to be the fix so far. Will a ROM update help this situation?

I doubt it,unless sprint or htc decides to cripple the performance to reduce power. =( Seems it may in fact be a defect in the design. It helps to open the keyboard when your running wifi. I also found it helps if you turn wifi power down to minimum. (optimize for battery vs performance/range) and turn off bluetooth,as well as close all running programs and turn the display off. If and when we have an overclocking util available it may also help to turn down the speed of the cpu,at least if it has enough speed not to impact the network throughput.
Hello everyone,
I love my HD2, its one of the only devices that i can say i am happy with since losing my android OS. (its good and bad in certain aspects.) My questions is about the Wifi Router Application. I have been using this application randomly as I travel or as I am out and about. I am kind of worried about what can happen if I over use this application because my phone beings to warm a little, but not to an amount where I am concerned. Has anyone gotten a negative result using this application, how long should this application be used, and what experiences have you had using this application (both good and bad)? Thanks guys, I would greatly appreciate your comments so that I will have a better understanding about this application and its usage.
Thanks,
AW
Don´t worry. Use this function several times per weeks for HOURS and it gets blazing hot. The same when I download tons of openstreetmaps-tiles for open mobile maps prog. Get´s hot but still works perfectly without flaw.................
It´s the same when You attach the device to Your cars dashboard in hot summer without even using it. It´s get almost cooked by the sun but still works nicely
Hello everyone,
Since the beginning of the Android period, I've been experiencing reception problems, as well as a few friends of mine. The phone is continually searching for signal and losses it quickly, jumps from HSDPA to other means, and also has the problem of regaining the signal after going through a tunnel etc.
I am not a developer myself, but was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problems and if there is anything to be done about it.
I know there was a slight fix introduced not too long ago in Tytungs kernel, but for me things still pretty suck.
If you have something to say about this, please do. Otherwise, a mod can handle the positioning of this thread. No need to start flaming if you have nothing to say.
All Hail XDA!!
Cheers,
Chovav
Thread reported to forum mod, Why don't you realise even after placing [Q] in the heading that you need the Q&A forums.
As for your concerned problem, i havn't faced that till now except for the fact i have data drops seldomly.
I have the same problem. I've tested several ROM, radios, Magldr clk...
I always use the *#*#4636#*#* trick. But I always have to return to 2G only.
I think that there must be different kind of hardware that avoid getting a decent signal level.
I tried the Probable Hardware Fix For HD2 Poor Signal too. I have better reception but no as solid as with 2G
I love the phone but when I use only 2G I want to cry (almost everytime).
Thanks in advance, Paco
Just something I would like to throw out there, I also have reception issues on ANY rom, but its occurrence seems to be like the original iPhone 4 came out, terrible reception if you squeeze the whole phone with your hand. I prove that theory by doing that in my room, if i dont touch the phone (just the screen) and browse the web, I do it with full bars. But as soon as I pick up the phone and browse, it will drop very quickly to 1 or no bars (from 4). See if you can trial this yourself, put phone down and browse web, and then hold the phone and try it. See if that makes a difference. Does for me.
There was a thread a while back about this and it showed a screen that you can get to that shows how long you have had signal and I remember looking at it in mine and it showed that I was without signal at least a third of the time the phone was powered on. I don't remember how to get to it any more or I would show you a screen shot of it. I have constant full bars of H where I am and even not moving the phone still shows this same behavior of dropping connection to the towers.

I dualboot android SD (Jaguarlani) and WP7. I hadnt used WP7 for a month now, and i've got an old 7740 rom of YUKI Back to the future. Now, while I was on, the phone started shedding battery life and getting hot. Within 40 minutes of minimal use it had used up 20% of the battery.
I'm using a 2.12 radio ( the recomennded one) and booting via magldr, Which rom should I flash to eliminate this issue And i've tried most fixes, which do not work.
I've got an europeian HD2 from italy.
I really like wp7, I really do, but I cannot use it with such horrible battery life, even SD android had 8 hours of fairly heavy use battery life. I imagine running it properly off nand will increase that.
Mine gets fairly hot and used battery like crazy when I watched videos or listen to music for an extended period of time as well.
However, I've been running DFT UltraFruit, for my daily phone, since it came out and my battery life has really improved.. 10-13 hours normal use, and it doesn't get as hot as it used too.
I'm in the US on t-mobile, using the most current radio... I'm not sure how much help that is, but that's my experience.
It's not that kind of issue, It gets extremely hot (think 50 to 60 C) when idling or using the internet for less then 10 minutes.
The thing is that the only place it gets hot is the 3g modem( I think ) which leads me to think that the issue is software - based.

60c would burn your hand, if you can hold it, then it isnt that hot, if its down the bottom then it could also be wifi, all the gubbins are down that way
give ultrafruit a try, there is a huge difference in battery life, meaning that something isnt drawing as much power.
It might also be worth considering changing your radios, hard and soft, dispite common believe a newer radio doesnt mean a better one, usually carriers change radios based on their local settings in that market, so settings that might be good for one person might be terrible for another.
a very basic and over simplified, incorrect and generally a bit shoddy example might be that in your area the network is setup with settings that means your phone is trying double time to keep a connection, where as the same settings on my phone in my location might mean the phone doesnt need to try so hard because of my networks settings.... does that make sense?

I will definetly try this new ultrafruit. How would I go about changing the soft radios though? The hard radio works really well on android and consumes barely any power, so I doubt that's the issue, I'm thinking more of a WP7-centric problem which points to softradio.
Other then that I do not have wi-fi on and I disabled 3g too, it still gets hot, and I wasnt exaggarating too much, it's in the range of barely being touchable, I would compare it to touching a hot-water run radiator that's been turned all the way up.
I live in bulgaria, and that's probably the core of the issue. However I have never switched softradios before, could you give me general directions, please?

The software radio seems to be an invention of WP7, or at least thats the first we knew of it
The down side is you cant just flash a new radio like you can do with a hardware radio (Tri colour bootloader>plug in PC> install using the custom RRU)
To change the software radio you need to flash it with the initial ROM, meaning you can only change it when you wipe the whole device.
If you download a WP7 ROM, and then look at the files you will see a data.zip file. In that you will see a whole bunch of part files, the one you want is part 0
delete it within winrar, then add the part 0 from a different radio to the data.zip, using winrar again.
give me a few min and ill find you a list of all the radios

Please, I need help too,
My phone is getting hot since a while.
This after I fully charged my battery.
:S Any hack infos?
Alright, got pdaimatejam's rom up and running, so far the battery life is good so far, gonna play a movie (akira) when it finishes transcoding (._.)
Any MKV or avi drivers for WP7?
So far though, with the 5.71 radio I havent gotten online, meaning no internet. Phone is functioning though.
Am I going to need to reflash again with an older radio?
Update: this rom is freaking sweet, battery is really really stable!
Update 2: Radio is using 3g networks without providing internet connection, the battery drain is still faster then android, but it's within 1 hour. Other then that the screen and sensors dont draw as much power so it's pretty decent right now.
