Hi,
I have diamond, and thinking to get diamond2.
I have a question for D2 owners.
How is the battery life on D2, because the original battery for D1 was terrible, I got the extendet one so it's ok. But as I know there is no extendet battery for D2. And the stock one is just a bit bigger then D1. But the screen is also bigger on D2, with drains more battery, I think.
How long the phone lasts with moderate use? Also is there a difference with 6.1 and 6.5.1 rom with battery drainage?
And maybe someone had D1 and now hase D2, so whats the + and - compared?
Thanks
I have had both. The TD2's battery is considerably better than the TD(1) in my opinion. I'd say the TD2 would be at about 30-40% charge once the TD(1) run out.
I think my TD2's battery is pretty good, as long as 3G and bluetooth are turned off. Other than that: abysmal (Not quite TD1 bad, but almost)

I'm getting around 90 hours. I recharge when the battery reaches 40%-50%. Generally bluetooth, wifi, and cellphone radios are turned off. I use my TD2 as PDA.
I find the D2 battery life on WM6.5 much improved. I seemed to be always charging it but now, it's less critical. Also, with all transmitters turned off, the lifetime is pretty good. My phone was on for a week on holiday and the battery was 90% by the end of the week having turned the mobile on for an hour or so to check messages a couple of times.
Of course, turning the phone & WiFi off isn't very practical but it does shown where the power drain comes from - no surprises there!
Cheers, Rob.
am getting 2 days , to 3 ...normal usage, and songs.
got even 4 days with normal usage. Can always buy a bigger battery
My wife got a TD2, and battery lasts for 3-4 days with her usage, and when I used her phone it lasts about 2 days. Not too bad, really.
The longer you have the TD2, the less you "play" with it and therefore the better the battery becomes. Never base battery consumption in the first month of getting your new toy
Cheers, Rob.
On ROM Base 2.18 drained for couple hour.
On 2.16 go 3-4 days with normal usage...
Regards
I have Duty HG R6 and battery drains FAST! Fully charged it lasts less than a day with normal usage on 2G network and everything turned off (BT, WF), few messages and max 2 hours of talking! And one more thing, anyone else experiencing that phone is getting hotter after 5-10 minutes of talking? Sometimes I cant put it on ear because of that...

Same here, 2 hours of talking and battery are gone, all other (BT, Wifi, 3G) are off, no play with device, only talking and some short e-mail read or write.
I search this forum and all users write that device last for 3-4 day ?? But what usage are to last 3-4 day, my phone is empty on half of working day.
And yes, phone are hot after 10-20 minutes of talking, some time my call last for 50-60 minutes, and this is terrible, like radiator on ear.
My call consumes eta 1% for 1 minute of call, (13 minutes , battery drops 11-12%)
Is this normal for this device, i have no answer on this question, but i plan send device to HTC service, because 5 h of talking in specification are far away in my Diamond2.
Maybe we should try some rom with 2.16 base and not 2.18 like miro666 sad. Will try it soon and report than and I'm using 4.49.25.14 radio...
I always have everything switched on with wifi and data access available when needed.
I run a 'lite' ROM, always install all apps to phone mem (Micro SD usage consumes a lot of power) and charge as often as possible.
I am probably what you would describe as a heavy user. I always carry a spare battery and an external power pack.
I need the extra power only rarely and so I usually make it throught an eight hour day on phone power alone with this usage.
Only a Day
I have a standard TD2 with a standard UK 6.5 upgrade.
Battery beeds charging daily. Im not even a heavy user. I make/receive a few calls, send a few texts, check my email and use "Brain Trainer" game for 15mins whilst on the bus going home from work.
The battery is pants!!
I've been frustrated with the inconsistency of the battery life on HD2 WP7, when with the same settings you get dramatically different results on different days.
However, I am pleased to announce that I was able to get 4 (FOUR!) full days of battery life on 1 charge from my phone this week. Admittedly, it was on light use, however, during this time the phone was never powered off or connected to a computer. It was mostly on standby (not airplane) mode, with auto backlight on, location on, but wi-fi, data and bluetooth off most of the time.
During these 4 days I did the following things on the phone:
- talked for 1 hour total, using bluetooth st. headset;
- browsed web for 1/2 hour on wi-fi and 3G;
- watched 8-minute YouTube clip;
- with camera: recorded three 2-minute video clips on 720p and took 7 still 5MP pictures with flash off, using SHCameraApp;
- browsed Marketplace for 10 munites, installing 1 app;
- checked emails twice a day;
- played audiobook for total of 40 minutes on speaker and BT st. headset.
Normally I use it more heavily (was getting 2 full days with moderate usage on WM 6.5), but this experiment is encouraging.
I am using Moon Light ROM with 2.15 radio on U.S. T-Mobile, with stock 16 GB class 2 microSD card. I haven't installed any battery-related tweaks. I need to clarify again, that with this ROM and same settings I don't always get same results, and the battery indicator sometimes doesn't show full charge even with green light.
At the start of the experiment, however, the phone was fully charged through USB connection to PC.
wow...4 days is amazing.
ive been saying this for weeks, IF you can get the battery to fully charge its actually fine. almost everyone complaining that it doesnt last very long hasnt fully charged the battery, and i dont blame them for thinking this because everything on the phone is tell you it is charged.
i just used an external charger, got another battery and swap them everytime i run out of juice!
if 4 days is achievable then its ok for everyday use.
i found many people complaining even on native wp 7 phones like htc trophy lasting only a few hours...
so I think its really not HD 2's fault

I agree...my friend has an HTC 7 Trophy and the battery acts roughly the same as on my HD2.
same here, battery life is no different for me on 7 than it was for 6.5, something else to note is that for me it will say it's low for 3 or 4 hours at least before finally running out

Does your HD2 do any random reboots using the 16gb class 2 card, because mines was doing that using xbmod

no point asking questions like that because it doesnt matter what anyone else has, i could buy the exact same card as you have it may work perfectly
no two cards no matter how identical they are, are the same, luck of the draw.

Yes, I had the random reboots problem at first!
But I completely resolved the problem by flashing the 2.15.50.14 radio.
I wrote a detailed post on that, search for it:

Unfortunately not all phones act the same do they...even between HD2 you get those with long battery and those with short life span. My friend Trophy does run the same as my HD2. You will notice some users get up to 2 days on their HD2...some struggle to get 12 hours...thus battery lifespan varies...i'm getting roughly 8 hours with heavy usage and over 24 hours with light usage on my HD2. Keep in mind that it does vary between users and consider that before posting bull to someone as the battery lifespan does vary a lot at the moment.
Edit:
BTW...what does your Trophy get compared to what my HD2 are giving me. Also I read some peoples HD2 overheats especially while playing games...mine aren't even with playing games a lot on it...maybe I am lucky but I do think somewhere something like SD cards, radio etc does play a role in all of the above.

how about switching to android to do the charging and then switch back to wp7 once fully charged? that way we can find some use for our android ;-)
I have two batteries and one is in separate dock that has battery charging at rear and the other battery is in the phone. I charge the phone all night with normal charger plugged into phone and in the morning at about 7am I unplug from charger and go to work, by 2pm to 3pm the phone is flat. I have email sync, bluetooth, WiFi and location on. I then get home at 5 to 6pm and grab battery out of separate charger that has been charging all day and phone will be nearly flat by 11:30pm 12AM.
I also own a HTC Mozart 7 and with all services running the same as the HD2 and the battery time on the Mozart would be double and it has more use with calls.
Can someone explain the "make sure your battery is fully charged" comment that is in this thread?
Update
Here is an update on my original post #1.
There has been exactly 48 hours since I charged my phone (through USB) at the end of the 4-day experiment. This time, after 2 full days, the battery indicator shows about 2/3 (!) of the charge still left.
To be precise, I didn't do much with it during these 2 days, only listened to audiobook on speaker for 20 minutes, manually checked email few times, downloaded attachments, and did some light web browsing for 10 minutes.
Still, I haven't powered it off, and it's been on automatic backlight, so only 1/3 of battery used in 48 hours is a very encouraging sign.
The phone (and battery) is just under a year old, and I have a habit of not charging the phone until the charge is low, so maybe that's a factor, but after switching to WP7 I was having battery problems like many people describe here.
My battery atm is sitting on 66% and it was last charged just over 12 hours ago. I havent spoken much on it today except for 1 call...sent 7 messages and played 4 turns on Spell It since then...thus light usage.
Strange thing is like some mentioned in threads...at the start the battery ran down quick...about 45% during the 1st evening in 8 hours...when not used. Now its lasting ALOT longer...its as if it settles over time.
in my experience it has to do with your data being off.
XBmod-WP7-V1.04b
radio 2.12
4:30--11:30---7h Data-off 3G-off Bat-75%
00:00--9:00---9h Data-off 3G-on Bat-94%
what i mean by make sure your battery is charge is that windows may not charge your battery fully, but it may report your battery as being full, some simple maths should do, if you have a 1Ah charger your battery should only be full around 1.5 hours later depending on usage whilst charging. now most USb ports only pump out 500mAh so again taking in to acount that your phone will be using some of that power to run its self and your looking at around 3 hours charge time
Now sometimes i find that if i charge my phone and then stick the battery in another HD2 running WM6.5 its only about 60-80% charged, i find that inorder to get a full charge without faffing about i need to use an external charger or use another HD2/ROM. if thats not an option then i find restarting and charging, or unplug and charge usually does the trick

I love WP7 on my HD2, but as you all know, its a battery hogger.
I have already purchased a 2600mah extended battery (Non HTC) on eBay, and awaiting delivery.
Is anyone else using an extended battery, that could maybe give us feedback on what it does in terms of battery life?
I hope to get atleast 2 days?
Currently im syncing google, outlook (To download hourly)
Some webbrowsing (Facebook, XDA offcourse)
And a few calls per day
Currently, my battery only lasts about 7 hours?
err, well i cant speak for everyone but my phone doesnt except the extended batteries, i mean it works but only to the size of a normal battery, it gets very confused if you charge it up passed that value on an externl charger.
as for your battery life, that seems excessive, mine lasts with heavy usage about a day and half. BT always on, wifi off, 3G and data on, xbox off, and the wee camera trick, plus several calls a day and a live account syncing every 30 min and a exchange account setup for push.

7 Hours? With about the same amount of usage with Web, 6 email accounts syncing every 15 minutes, 2 Calendar syncs, weather and stocks (hourly), calls, and texting, I get about 13 hours of usage. You should realize your battery drains faster when you're phone is searching for a signal...so if you're in an area where your signal isn't very strong, your battery will drain quickly esp. with all the data apps your run.
If you want to know about the extended battery you should check out the regular HD2 Windows Mobile forum. There were a lot of discussions about the extended battery way back when the batteries first appeared.
Sorry
you already paid for it so...i wish that it will work as you planed
but it didn't for me at least with WP7....
GOOD luck mate!!!
I tried an extended battery before I even tried WP7 and it is twice the size and twice the stated capacity but it lasted the same amount of time as the standard one...
btw, my stock DFT rom doesn't chew any more battery than wm6.5 did...

Yeah, it isnt charging it, if you use an external charger it only lasts the same amount of time as a standard battery but pop it out and resert it and it seems to use a bit more, in short the battery controler, not suprisingly as WP7 isnt ment for our phone, doesnt know what its doing, its a pitty but you get what you pay for and im happy with it, still think your eating too much juice tho, seems very odd

What ROM are you using?
The DFT ROM from this tutorial YouTube Video
ROM - 7.0.7004.4
Radio - 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10U
I haven't noticed any more battery usage compared to the OEM Telstra Aus ROM...
My phone's off the charger at 6am, 4-10 short calls, 20-30min of youtube, 30-60min web browsing, 6 email accounts updating every 15min, 30min gaming, 15min browsing the app store and trying random apps...
I get home at 4pm with 40-50% battery...
In my opinion that's OK battery usage...
Awesome!
I recieved my battery yesterday.
Charged it for 12 hours. And i must say, it works wonders on WP7. I had to reflash first, as it was a bit unstable. Once i did it, the phone started running fine.
I started using it at at this morning (08:30). And my battery is now sitting at about 75%. its 21:21. And i have used it quite a bit.
Hope this info helps others.....
I have owned my SGS for around 9 months now, and have been downloading roms and tweaks from xdadevs for around 8 months for my SGS. There have been countless times where I have seen claims of batter life extending to 2-3 days, I have even seen claims of 4/5 days!
These claims are ridiculous, particularly if you utilise you smart phone as a SMART PHONE, and these claims are also hugely misleading to newbies. When I first started using XDA and read about 2-3 days battery life I was worried about my phone or battery being faulty. After using the phone for a few weeks and flashing countless roms I realised that around 7 to 10% is NORMAL if you utilise your smart phone for what it is.
The people who do get 2-3 days battery life why do you own a £300 phone and use it like a £10 nokia 1100?
A smart phone has so many features for a reason - they are to be used.
My day to day use on Juwe's Smart Edition v4.3.1 XWJVH Based On Official 2.3.3*
3G/H on
about 1 hour of calls
push email for three email accounts
live wall paper
a couple of widgets which download data every 3 hours
some gaming
approx 30-50 texts a day
whatsapp
liveprofile
1-2 hours music
automatic brightness
This sort of use will give me 10-12 hours battery life.
Can anyone who do claim heavy use and get 2-3 days battery life detail their use and set-up to justify claims of heavy use and make it clear to newbies what REALLY to expect from their smart phone.
Remember, this phone has an array of brilliant feature which have been made to be utilised.

I have pretty much the same usage but I only switch to 3g when I need it (and not using live wallpaper because i find it distracting). 1.5-2 days battery easy.
48 hours of battery for me
Juwe's 4.3.1 based on JVH
3g/h on 24/7
wifi, gps, auto rotate on 24/7
2 hours of calls at least a day
30 to 50 sms daily
no widgets, i prefer a slick apearance
no live wallpaper
4 accounts with push from 9am to 6pm auto check every 15 minutes the rest of the time
1 hour of FM radio everyday
at least 30 minutes gametime everyday if not more
lots of internet usage
twitter : sync's every 1o minutes
facebook : sync's every 4 hours
sms/call log backup every 6 hours
watchdog software running 24/7
sync to dropbox of apps/sms/calllog/camera pictures every 12 hours
Nice post...
In total agreeance with you. I am also a user of the phone and find it silly to have to turn stuff off or go into airplane mode at night, etc. I want to use my phone and not make it an exercise in restraint.
I've also noticed that, for my use, the battery life is pretty consistent. I get about 2 days with everything on, and fairly light use. There is no 'magic' tweak that will double it and stuff like calibrating and erasing battery stats make little difference. What makes the difference is how you use it... Overclocking, bright screens, games... the more you use the less battery life you have. Use the phone, that's what it's for.
Half a day with that much use is OK... for the people who don't want to risk hooking to a charger often or on the move, I suggest buying a rechargeable portable battery pack which when plugged into the phone can recharge without AC mains; so you have a portable charger always around to fill up the phone juice whenever needed.
+1 - I've checked a lot of roms and kernels. Max I had - around 16 hours. But usually it's around 11-12 hours.

Oh, come on, how difficult is for people to understand this?. You have a device with a 1 GHz CPU, a 4" AMOLED screen, 3G, Wifi, bluetooth radios.. Everything uses power, the more things you use, the more power it takes.
Of course if you have the screen off, WiFi off, 3G data off, bluetooth off, no data sync, not make phone calls... the phone can last one week on standby.
If you're USING the phone, the standard battery will drop 20% every hour or so. I've seen the battery gone down to 10% in a few hours. Battery hogs are in approximate order:
- Screen (even on low brightness)
- 3G data traffic
- Wifi traffic (wifi ON but no traffic has low impact)
- GPS on
- GPU (3D games)
- Voice traffic (screen is off during calls, does not take much power)
Smart using the smartphone
3-4 days for me.
And no, I'm not using it as a Nokia 1100.
Have wifi turned on all the time so it automatically connects to home & work wifi when in range. I check the news every morning for about 10-15min @home when drinking my cafe and have a smoke before leave to work. Sync is ON, k-9 mail checking emails, GO Weather and other apps using data from time to time.
Couple of calls everyday, 5-10min total (I don't say stories on the phone).
I don't listen music from the phone (if I wanna do that I'll use the mp3 player which is built for that and can run 6-7h with a single AAA accu. Also I have a car radio and winamp on the work computer so why use the phone for such?)
Yes, it's a smartphone and I use it as a smartphone. Wonder if some users are as smart as their phone to use it properly.
as mentioned a few times before, for what the phone is capable of, amoled screen, wifi, gps, 3d gaming, mp3 player and so on. you can expect the battery to drain quick.
battery life dont bother me, ive always got a place to charge if needed, and i do abuse my phone, so its expected,
the makers are trying to cram all these goodies into a small compact phone, leaving not much room for a huge battery to power it all.
there are replacement batteries on ebay 3000Mah really big, and they come with the SGS back case to fit it, it doesnt look too bad really. and if battery is a big issue for you, invest in one. they are not too expensive and will give you juice when its really needed.
probably would work out cheaper than paying for apps to monitor and improve battery life....
if the SGS came with a battery the size of your fist, you would be complaining at that too.... even if it lasted a month on 1 charge lol
EDIT: 3500mah battery - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3500MAH-EXTRE...ltDomain_3&hash=item2eb38b347a#ht_2326wt_1139

Same with me, using HTC Trophy!!! 2-3 days od moderate use!!!
im getting very little battery time too with MINIMAL usage.
I must be happy that I cant get to the day with a full charge with almost no use:S
Me too. Badly. I think next year my phone will use for five to ten minutes :loz
My phone battery isn't incredible either, with moderate usage it only lasts half a day
If you want to extend battery life, turn off extra sensors you don't use like WiFi and bluetooth. You can also you can apply Battery Saver to extend your battery life by 25% or so
