Magic 32B with perfect SPL rooted but still perfect SPL - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi all,
My question is essentially, how do I get a non-perfect SPL on my phone which I was able to root but only with the COC cupcake build?
I was able to root the phone and use the cyanogen mod (current 4.2.14.1). I was using the cyanogen-mod recovery image shipped with flashrec_20090815 and the COC build of Cupcake to downgrade and then flash cyanogen mod from that recovery image.
However when I tried Amon_Ra's approach with an engineering SPL I got stuck when booting into Amon_Ra's recovery image. Flashing the engineering SPL as outlined in Amon_Ra's thread works, but when I flash Amon_Ra's recovery image with flashrec and then try to boot into that it gets stuck in the loading screen.
Same results with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img
starts, but gets stuck in the loading screen.
Files/tools used:
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img
ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010)
flashrec-20090815.apk
fastboot, adb
Spec:
HTC Magic (Vodafone)
rooted using Cyanogen's guide with goldcard approach
Sapphire Unknown 32B Ship S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0006 (SAPP10000)
RADIO-2.22.19.26I

Any help much appreciated!

actually solved it myself. Quite simply:
because it was already rooted I put the engineering SPL (not the entire ROM from Amon_Ra's 'fix the perfect SPL' thread, but rather the SPL with just the boot img) on to the SD card, booted into recovery (cyanogen's 1.4 recovery), flashed the SPL, and that was it. For some reason I was unable to flash amon_ra's recovery image with flashrec, but rather with fastboot after I had the engineering SPL.

You are correct. I read on a thread that flashrec does not like the long name given for Amon Ra's latest recovery. Someone renamed it with a shorter name and flashrec was able to flash it.

From Hboot-1.33.0010 (SAPP50000) to Engineering SPL 1.33.2010

I've seen in cursordroid's thread. if u have have the Hboot-1.33.0010 (SAPP50000) spl on your phone with the latest amon ra recovery, i just have to put the engineering spl on the sd card and flash it using the recovery image, is this true, can this brick my phone, and would i lose any data at all, and can i just let it boot into my rom or are there any special steps to take after its done, thanks in advance for the assistance....
I just took the plunge and applied the spl via the recovery menu, it worked on my rogers branded magic, i now have the 1.33.2010 S-OFF engineering spl. one thing to note is when the phone rebooted into recovery, it looked liked it got stuck on formatting cache, i waited for a few minutes. then i hit reboot now, and all is well
Hey there.
I have the same phone as you with same SPL.
Did you run the amon recovery successfully, then apply the SPL?
Any detail would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm with Rogers and just upgraded to CursorSense this weekend. I first had to upgrade my SPL to engineering SPL.
All I did was copy the Engineered SPL 1.33.0010 to the root of my SD card, renamed it to update.zip.
Then using fastboot I booted into Amon recovery (fastboot boot recovery.....) and applied "update.zip from sd card".
When I rebooted phone I had the new SPL.
Now your phone can be remote flashed using fastboot. You can apply new Radio (fastboot flash radio "filename"), HBOOT (fastboot flash hboot "filename") and recovery ROM (fastboot flash recovery "filename"). Please note that if you want to use the CursorSense ROM you need to use the Amon HERO recovery, not the Magic recovery.
Then you copy the CursorSense ROM to your SD card and rename it "update.zip".
Boot into recovery mode and apply "update.zip from SDCard".
You should be done.
I was not able to fastboot the recovery from adb.
I get 'remote: not allow'
Looks like I have o go this route:

i got the engineering spl from amon ra thread nad i put it on my sd card and flashed it as i would any other update, as for the recovery, i used the 'one click root method' as demonstrated on http://theunlockr.com/ website and i had root, i used the latest sapphire recovery from amon ra which is version 1.5.2
Thanks guys, I'll give that a go!
Ok, needed to do it from the device, not adb.
Got a 2010 spl now, wohoo
Hello
I have a Queston if I go from 0010 t0 2010 how can I go back to the stock 0010 ?

can no longer boot into recovery

I have a rooted unlocked Magic 32b and have flashed many roms on it but it has suudenly stopped booting into recovery.
If i hold power and home it now just hangs on vodafone splash screen.
any ideas?
if you have an engineering SPL installed on the phone, you can use fastboot from the SDK to flash a new recovery image (assuming you can still get into fastboot mode on the phone)
Or you can go to Android Market and download ROM Manager & flash recovery through that application (both ClockWorkMod & Amon_RA supported). If the first flash fails don't worry just reflash the same recovery (2nd flash works every time)
Thanks for the help, I reflashed AMon-Ra recovery via fastboot and all is well.
I'm having exactly the same problem.
Think I flashed the 32a instead of 32b onto the magic uk vodafone device:
sapphire pvt 32A eng s-off h
hboot-1.76.2007 (sapp10000)
cpld-10
radio-6.35.10.18

Could you link to the recovery you managed to flash your phone using please? I've tried loads of versions via adb/flashboot and none work sadly.
Hoping I don't have to buy another phone
I have similar issue to original poster, I've flashed many roms over the last year and all have been fine until now
VOLDN+POWER, HOME+POWER, BACK+POWER are all no go.. all stuck on bootloader splash. Can someone confirm I've finally bricked my 32B?
Last SPL i put on was 1.76.2007 i think (cant confirm no fastboot..) radio was 2.22.19.26I

[Q] Cannot turn security off (S-OFF) on rooted Rogers 32A Magic

I've rooted my Magic, got Cyanogenmod running nicely, etc. I was then trying to flash a new splash screen, and noticed that my security in fastboot shows as begin on (S-ON). Sure enough it wouldn't let me flash the splash screen, it said the signature was not valid.
So, I tried flashing every single engineering SPL possible, and it never changes to off.
Here is my info from the fastboot/hboot screen.
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-ON H

That's what I've done. I've flashed every single engineering hboot file I can find and each one still shows S-ON during fastboot/hboot, and I"m unable to flash through fastboot.
Follow these steps (you should find it in this Mytouch Room)
1. Create your goldcard.
2. Comeback to 1.5 version by flashing rom 1.5 from goldcard.
3. Install Recovery Flasher (RF).
4. Run RF, chose Flash Cyanogen 1.4 img
5. Copy new E-SPL to root of Sdcard, Boot to Recovery mode, flash this file SPL
6. You can flash new recovery img (like 1.7.0G) by fastboot mode through your PC.
Check your new SPL now and S-ON becomes S-OFF.
I've successed on Magic 32B with perfect SPL 1.33.0006 and S-ON.

If this currently a 1.33.20** spl with s=off and a custom recovery can you please do the following
Run 'adb shell dump_image misc /tmp/misc_dat.img'
Then
'adb pull /tmp/misc_dat.img misc_dat.img'
Then send me the resulting image somehow (pm me a rapid share link or ask for my email.. there ought not be any identifiably info in misc but just in case)
This may or may not clear up why there is an issue.. and let a better process to fix it be created.. untill then try unrooting (or installing a stock spl) and re-rooting as was mentioned, just onto forget radio versions may change in the process requiring caution not to skip ahead of yourself and brick.
UPDATE:
So I got the file, misc was nearly all blank without the usual data (boot mode, CID and some other data) this is easily fixed by re-flashing misc from recovery.. I think this can even be made into an update.zip.. (since all magic/dream misc partitions are essentially the same besides the CID, and the CID is still being passed to the recoveries command line when stuck in this state.

[Q] Semi-Brick Need some Help

I tried to update my SPL to the latest now I cant boot in to my system but I can get in Fastboot and Recovery.
The info I had before was:
MyTouch 3g v1.2
HBOOT-1.33.0013
Radio- 2.22.23.02
Mod- CM6.0
Also HBOOT says Sapphire Unkown 32b ENG S-OFF
I flashed the 2010 SPL from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
I think I need a new radio but cant seem to find one.
What should I do now to get back into my phone.
So you flashed the engineering SPL, now you've got to flash the new radio and also flash a new/the stock SPL. Do you still have access to recovery? If so, download this, put it in the Tools folder of AndroidSDK, then fastboot flash it to the phone. Download this, put it on your SD card, boot into recovery, and flash it. That will get you back to the stock SPL with the 2825 radio.
Can you update the fastboot info?
Just to make sure that the flash did succeed!

[Q] Help needed updating 32B radio&spl

Hey guys,
Firstly...
PVT 32B
HBOOT-1.33.0013
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.23.02
I'm pretty new to this game but I just installed Rushness' Frosense 0.9 on my Magic and it has been a MASSIVE improvement over CM 6.1 which came pre-installed on my phone that I ebay'd from Hong Kong. 6.1 was so slow it was unuseable.
Anyway, I would like to update my Radio/SPL to the latest version. I've done a lot of searching but have run into a few problems, mostly understanding lingo.
I have Radio: 2.22.27.08 & SPL: 1.33.0013d downloaded (I assume these are the ones I want) and I have backed up my SD card to PC. I figured the process would be the same as flashing the Frosense ROM, enter clockwork mod, hit clockwork recovery, hit "flash alternative recovery", power off, home + power, nand backup, wipe, flash radio, flash SPL, flash Frosense again. However after I "flash alternative recovery" and power off, pressing Home + Power just takes me to the MyTouch screen where it freezes. If I pull battery and power on as usual phone works ok. I decided to try and partition my SD through CWM (wasn't sure if this was necessary) but I'm not sure if the partition worked, phone started to reboot then froze on MyTouch screen again.
I'm assuming I'm doing something incorrectly. Sorry if I seem as "fresh" as I am, but I'm keen to learn and would be appreciative of some easy to understand steps if someone wouldn't mind.
Thanks,
See my guide found in my signature.
Just skip the rooting part if you already rooted.
Flash the recovery and continue with the eng spl.
Once you have the eng spl, you should do the following:
1)Download fastboot commander from my signature and reboot into fastboot
2)Flash the new radio
4)If it goes well, flash the new spl
5)If it goes well, restart into recovery and flash your rom. Remember it must have a compatible kernel.
If any step fails, STOP and post here.

Here is some insight from my recent experience. I am new at this.
Started with:
Sapphire Pvt32 Dev s-on g
Hboot-1.33.3004 (sapp30000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.19.26I
Version 1.5
Stepped to:
Hboot-1.33.3005 Eng
Then installed Amon Ra Recovery
Then BIG Step to:
Sapphire Pvt32 Dev s-on g
Hboot-1.33.3013d
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.27.08
Version 2.3.5
Keys to success:
1. Get used to searching for what you need then READ as much as you can on Recovery, Radio and SPL(hboot) prior to starting any of the changes.
Especially helpful:
(Newbie resources: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794445)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
(Magic SPL) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
(2708 Radio) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
2. When comfortable with how to set up Android SDK, root, installing custom recovery, fastboot and adb, you are ready to start:
3. Find an Eng S-off SPL(I used 1.33.2005) so you can fastboot flash:
fastboot flash boot [c:/boot.img]
(Magic SPL) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
4. Then flash amon ra recovery once then test (press/hold home + power....)
Search in XDA for this thread. fastboot flash recovery [c:/recovery.img]
5. fastboot flash new radio! (I tried using Amon Ra recovery radio.zip to install new radio but it stuck on unbox screen) After 40 min. I freaked out, pulled battery and luckily no damage/brick.
6. adb push your ROM of choice to /sdcard/
I just followed these steps by jeff72k. Note that these instructions are on the G1 forum but G1 is same as HTC Magic/Sapphire 32B. This worked very well especially for step-by-step through the partition setup for Ginger Yoshi which is working GREAT!
