Phone Shortcut - HD2 General

Hi, and thanks for your last help. My phone is running smooth and fast with duttys HG v.08! I would like to add a phone icon to my quick links (a link, so I can go directly the dial pad), is this possible? Again, thanks. Cheers.

Does the far-left button not do this in that ROM? I only have the stock so can't check.

No, I was wondering the same thing, with taht excellent rom, 'phone' is replaced by 'all people'.
I don't find it very convenient, as we already have 'all people' in the home screen tabs.
I'd appreciate the original 'phone' to come back as the left soft key.

How about the left hard key? the one that by its very nature is the phone key, and brings up the phone pad?
Alternatively, to make a quick link, if you can't see 'phone' when you create a new quick link and select program then the phone.lnk shortcut isn't in the start menu folder, in which case you can create it yourself, it contains the code
18#:MSCProg?tapres.dll,-22555
or heres mine. Drop it in your windows/start menu folder and now when you click new quicklink-program you should see 'phone' listed. (Had to zip it, can't upload .lnk files directly)

Yes, as there's that nice big hardware key "on every tab" to bring the phone up, most find the softkey redundant, thus setting it to a more useful "All people"

Thank you
Thank you all for taking your time. Samuel, that was exactly what I needed. It worked! Now I have a phone link where I use the most. Thanks mate. Cheers to all.

Quick question -- I want to DISABLE the left hard button so that it does not open the phone pad when pressed. Can I do that by removing phone.lnk from the windows folder?
Thanks

sorry not sure how you would do that.
I suspect its not as simple as moving the phone.lnk from windows\start menu
You could maybe try aebuttons and remap the left key to do nothing?

Shortcut wanted for Clock & Alarms Help! <---UPDATE I

First of all I searched for this answer for hours and didn't find anything.
I installed Wisbar and it had an option so that whenever you held down the stylus over the clock on the task bar it would open "Clocks & Alarms," instead of showing the menu of Analog or Digital.
Basically I want to be able to do this without having to use Wisbar (I uninstalled it already, wasn't for me.) Can anyone help? A registry edit, replacing a file with a shortcut, I dunno something. It doesn't have to be the hold option, it could just be the single tap.
Thanks in advance!
Uuuhhhhh....enable the Date Plug-in on the Today Screen and tap it?
Thanks for the fast reply but I don't use the "Date" Today plug-in. I use the tweak that displays the date and time in the task bar.
If you want to make a link use my fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=57134&highlight=
5 posts down the thread
Make a shortcut on your PDA using something like GSFinder and edit it to say:
Code:
"ctlpnl.exe" cplmain.cpl,16
Otherwise use notepad on your PC, and type:
Code:
27#"ctlpnl.exe" cplmain.cpl,16
Save it as clocks.lnk, copy onto your PDA and run it.

Do I copy clocks.lnk into a specific folder on my pda?
THank you very much vijay555
Edit: I put clocks.lnk into My Documents and nothing happened it just sent me to the start of file explorer. What does this exactly do?
you need to put it in /windows/start menu/ and then it will show up when u hit start.
gtdRR: apologies, I've edited the post above to clarify - if you're using gsfinder, then make the shortcut described, but if you're using Notepad to make the .lnk (which is the easiest way, copy and paste on your PC then sync it over to your PDA) then use the 27#.... method I've posted.
You can stick it anywhere, doesn't have to be in \windows\
V
Thanks once again vijay555, that will be very useful but I would still like to find out if the shortcut can be enabled like it was when I had WisBar. Through the clock on the taskbar.
THANKS FOR ALL THE FAST REPLIES!
I found another way to get to Clock & Alarms. Hold the action button on the D-Pad and then click and hold the clock in the task bar. With practice this can be done in 2 sec. When you let go a menu pops up and then you just choose Clock.

samans wm5newmenu can set clocks&alarms as an item under the left or right softkey, or buttons.

Maping of the OK button

Is there a solution to map the OK button to an app which closes programs?
AE Button Plus does not allow to map the OK button.
It does, you select 'File' then 'Add button'. Press the OK button and then 'Add key' and it will be added to the list where you can assign it to an action.

I beleive pqzii is a good program to map the keys, but unless someone posts a manual as to how to use it, this program will render useless to newbies. Of course, those who are very knowledgable in programming will be the only ones benefiting from the hard work of the writer of this program.
Bottom line, how to use this program? Can someone who knows how to use it be kind enough to give us, newbies, some help?
Personally, I am using the X button program and it is great. I like to map the bottom OK button to become the X button to close programs from running in the background.
Thanks in advance to those who are willing to help.
My experience is :
1. Go to the install folder of PQzII with file explorer (picture 1)
2. Choose PQzII setup.exe (picture 2)
3. Tick the "Use OK button(Task Close/All)" checkbox under Windows option (picture 3)
4. Untick the " Use this function" checkbox under Icon option (picture 4)
5. Create a shortcut to Windows/Startup folder (picture 5)
HI blcc:
Thanks for the above. But the OK buttin still does not close the program - as I click it, it seems to have closed it but I looked at the Memory to find out the programs running - the one tat supposed to have been closed is still there.
BTW - One more newbie question about step 5 - how do your create a short cut to the Windos\StartUp?
Thanks again.

I can really close the program with OK button after apply the setting. For creating a shortcut, I use resco file explorer, tap and hold at the item and a pop up menu will appear. Choose "cut", and go to the statup folder, tap and hold again and choose "paste shortcut". That is.
Hope you understand my poor English.

4075 is what mine is set to.
PQzII was a bit buggy for me.
is there a way to have exceptions to closing the programs?eg:i like messaging and contacts to always be running in the background so if i press the ok hardware button it only minimizes messaging and contacts while really closing the other applications.

Device Lock

Anyway the device lock be mapped to a soft key instead of a hard key? I have it mapped to the messaging button, but would rather have it at the calendar or contacts button.

I'm trying to get some directions for the program, from doing a little research on google it looks like you can reassign the button with that program, just have to figure out how. I'll look for some direction on the program.
Ok, I figured it out.
Goto WM5newmenu, under "launch by:" select "Left Softkey" Then under "Soft Key Label:" enter your label (ie. "Lock")
Then goto the "items" tab. select "new" then select the little box next to "parameters:" select "windows" then ""go into" at the bottom.
Scroll over to "BSDeviceLock.exe" then hit "select"
Then enter "lock" or whatever you want under "item label:"
You will see the new entry on the left side of the screen, you may have to scroll down a little. You can uncheck all of the other items and just leave the new "Lock" item you created. After that select ok and do a soft reset.
After it resets, hit your left sofkey, you will see your newly created lock pop up. Then just hit the center button on the pad! It locks!! I just did this and it works!!
Hope this helps,
Just found this, it's even better then WM5newmenu:
Reassign left softkey on Today screen to open Notes application
Use Total Command to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2
Change the “Default” key to the name that you want to appear on the button (in my case Notes)
Change the “Open” value to the location of the program you want to open (in my case “Windows/Notes.exe” ( you would enter “Windows/BSdevicelock.exe”)
Perform a soft reset
Look in your windows folder to see if you have BSdevicelock.exe if you don't let me know and i'll get it to you.

I did the registry edit, and when I tap the left soft key, I get "the file device lock cannot be opened due to an untrusted certificate, or one of its components is missing." I could NOT find BSdevicelock.exe in the Windows folder. Where in windows should this file be located?
I would like that BSdevicelock as well, if I could.
Its in the root windows folder, you probably don't have it.
I'll attach it as soon as I get home from work tonight!
Just copy it into your windows directory.

Got it good buddy! I kept the other items in WM5NewMenu and labeled the softkey "Menu", and changed BSdevicelock in the label box to Device Lock. Now all I do is hit the new softkey "Menu", scroll to device lock, hit the center button on the D pad. Device locks like you said it would! I was able to do this after extracting the BSdevicelock.zip to my Windows folder. Excellent instructions! Thx a MILL! If you discover anything else that's appealing, let me in on it..o.k.? None of your "this" links worked for me. Besides, I'm content now.
My old simple Nokia 6200 had a feature whereby the keypad was locked automatically without need for a PIN three minutes (selectable) after a call when there was no activity.
Is there any easy way to implement this ? I can map H/W keys (thanks to Molski) but this isn't quite the same.

Is BSdevicelock better than the lock app already on the device in the Windows folder??
The app im talking about is called devicelock.exe on my device. I have an HTC Wizard
I did not have devicelock.exe in my windows folder originally. BSdevicelock is just a little program that simply locks the device. I don't have devicelock.exe, but I imagine they probably do the same thing. I think BSdevicelock is actually installed by the BatteryStatus program. If you have a later version of Battery Status, you should have BSdevicelock.

Ultimate launch question.

Trying to create a button link to "settings" in my verizon ppc for UL, any ideas?
thank you very much.
Jon
"UltimateLaunchConfig.exe" is the app. What kind of "button link" do you want? In a UL button? or a hard button?
If you mean create a button to show the settings menu, this should work for you:
Go to Windows\Start Menu
Copy Settings
Paster a shortcut (for settings) anywhere.
create a new button using the shortcut you created

Much respect to all first and foremost. From my experience with UL, that may work for some applications located in the Windows folder, but not all. For instance, you cannot create a shortcut for the Today settings to switch up your themes, Power/Soft Reset , or even Remove Programs either. There's a slew of programs that can't be made into shortcuts within UL. It's perhaps a limitation of UL.
But there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. If one desperately wants to create /include such applications (Power, Resetting, Today, etc) with UL, one can install Mobile Shell because it create shortcuts in itself, which UL can then detect. Pocket Plus may be able do the same, but I'm uncertain.
Also, the word on the street, the next version will be 'better' and I don't have the slightest clue as to when that release will surface. I'm no expert, just a big fan like of UL. My two cents.
this answer is a little bit wrong:
1. you can make a Shortcut to ANY wm setting. example: command: ctlpnl, param: cplmain.cpl,10 (for uninstalling software) search in the other ul threads.
2. Daniel Who wrote UL made also some "smartutilities" for make calll, toggle wifi, softreset and many more, google for it. this are small .exe you can link to.
yes, i was attempting to have a button inside of UL access the settings area. I have the xv6700 which appears to have a problem with keeping UL on the today screen after a soft reset. so before I soft reset I need to change my today plugin to something else. otherwise when i reboot nothing shows up and will not load any other plug-ins. Makes it easy to have a quick link cause I'm not a stylus fan.
Thank you very much guys. would have never thought of making a short cut of it. thanks again!

Good information. This seems to be a hot topic at the moment and assume this info hasnt been highlighted before. Perhaps a brave soul will post some shortcut command params, directions/instructions in their spare time, and have them listed/located in one thread for easy like the icons. Well, I'm not very brave, but I knew this page existed on PPCSG.COM, so I thought I'd share it. It shows how you can create .LNK files to many of the Settings Applets. Hope it helps.

Just find the one you want, open notepad on your PC copy the line into notepad, with only that text, and save as power.lnk, for example, then have the button set to that link.
Any Idea on how to add a folder shortcut? I want to have my different photo albums
Is there a way to specify the appropriate ICON in the .lnk file? I have the "cplmain.cpl,26" working but it just shows a generic icon.
Just change the icon in the display tab.

I hadn't used this yet, but resco explorer has an option (you have to edit the regsitry for it) that let's you load folders according to command line arguments (then you can use UL to load the folder in resco straight using a command line).

Mapping Start button directly to programs folder

Searched around for quite a while and couldn't find a solution to this, maybe someone with with more knowledge on resource hacking can help out.
Using the start menu on WM Professional devices is not conducive to single handed use, its actually quite cumbersome. I would like to remap the *on-screen* start button to simply open the programs folder ala WM Smartphone. Is this possible? I believe it would be much easier to manage on the go and would skip a step which is always beneficial. The only problem I could see is creating a link to "settings"
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

And after from Settings -> Personal -> Buttons, assing the button to this application(firs must to make a shortcut points to \startmenu\programs folder
I've seen that before, and although very cool I would still like to remap the Start button and avoid an unnecessary step. Any other ideas?

I don't know about mapping the Start button to bring up the applications folder, but using WA3 (or probably a registry tweak but I don't know it) you can remap the Start button to Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and have all of your applications displayed in the first drop-down menu rather than just 7. It also leaves access to Settings too...
Copy the attached file programs.lnk , to your \windows\start menu\programs , and use the buttons settings to bind the link to the program.lnk
---
To create a shortcut to a folder:
Use Total commander, browse to the location of which you want to make a shortcut, highlight the folder/file you want, from the File menu in Total Commander, choose >>>> on top , and then choose create short-cut, then save the output link to the \windows\start menu\programs.

This is a great idea and rereading my post I can see how it may be slightly confusing, you see I want to change the Start menu button in the top left corner of the screen that opens the menu to directly open the programs folder. If anyone of you has used a windows mobile smartphone you know what I mean. That way all you have to do is tap the top left section of the screen and scroll to your app. no more tiny menu to hunt and peck on while trying to do important things like you know driving, or bike riding, etc...
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

In search for a solution, you can maybe use "LargeStartmenu.cab". It makes the starmenu (and text in programs) larger. The version in the "Diamond Apps (OEM + CAB)" thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395400
works for my Touch
You can find folderStartPgm.exe here:
