I've looked on the registry and tried fiddling but resulted in a) a crash that required a soft reset and b) message saying couldn't save the file when i changed the picture location to \my documents\my pictures.
Whenever I save a picture on the 2i it saves it into a folder in MD with the date as the folder name, with the picture stored in it. Any way to change this?

Did you manage to get a solution to this - I'm looking for exactly the same answer. There is a possible reg key, but changing that caused problems.
Also for me.
I've a Qtek 2020i from few days and I would like to know store all the photos in one folder.
At the moment I set the path of saved photos (SD card) but I want to have all the photos in one foolder instead of multiple photos in multiple folders. :?
Bye !
Still no work around for this ?
No news for me
I never did get an answer no, and I've given up looking for one myself.

I was thinking of creating a small apllication that you could run to move the pictures/movies from the numeric folders to a default folder such as My Pictures, im reading up on how it could be achieved at the moment.
On my xda 2, I made a directory on storage card, and they are all in that folder. What happens with yours? You can prefix it with anything you like, I call mine pic and it increments pic_001 etc. The settings are under camera, then click the spanner/screwdriver, then click tools, then click options. I changed the prefix to string and defined the string in the next box down under prefix string, the folder is changed under folder by clicking change.
For some reason the "Folder" option is missing on the XDA 2i so even though you can select the location (Main memory or storage card) it still saves it in \My Documents\xxxxxxxxxx <--- the x's refer to the date ie
05071800001 , 05(year)07(Month)18(Day) the rest is the folder number i think ? 00001 ?
Why they never used the same configuration as the other phones is beyond me but nevermind !

Trouble changing the path to the SD
Hi there,
I'm using i-Mate JAMin, win mobile 5 and the only available options here are Main Memory and Network. In other words I cannot change to save the photos and videos to the SD card. Please, help!
P.S.: I also tried setting a new path within the registry settings, changed the path to '\Storage Card\My Photos\' with no luck - it creates the directories under the 'My Documents' in the main memory. It's a big pain in the ass b/c I don't have enough space to make lots of photos or clips.
Hi gang. Does anyone know if there is a hack to move the "My Docs" folder to store by default on my super duper 2gb storage card instead of on my device memory.
cheers
My Documents
No difficulty here. Just create a My Documents folder in root directory of storage card, can also put a my documents, my pictures and my videos folder inside it. Plus anything else you may want.
Need to then make sure all your programmes know to save to storage card. Some progs will know to look for these folders others need to be told in their settings menues.
I save nothing to on-board memory and the my documents folders are left on the system memory but remain empty.
Mike
Cheers Mike
That sort of works, although I have activesync to sync my files, & I can't find anywhere to change this option to look at the storage card. It keeps resorting to the device memory default location.
Many thanks
Shane
I'd been trying to do that, posted previously with no joy

Yes activesync will be more of a problem as you'll see from following links, but might give some possibilities:

Did anyone get this to work on the Tytn?
I have started to play around with this from the Magic instructions, but am having some problems.
Please let me know.
Hello All,
If I copy the ringtones to my storage card the phone (TD2) does not show those ringtone files.
But if I copy the files to main storage (My Documents\Ringtones) it does work.
Is it not possible to have/store my ringtones @ storage card instead of main storage? If YES, Please advice.
Thanks.
Create folder in storage card e.g. "Ringtones" and change path in registry. I've read about it in this forum but can't remember where.
edit : I think the regisrty path is HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config\so there change key ring_tone_path from \My Documents\My Ringtones to \StorageCard\Ringtones

Thanks for the reply. I will try this out. Can you point me to the location where I can download the Registry editor.
Also it will be grt if you can point me to Total Commander for MW too.
Thanks.
Here is regedit and here is tcmd. Tcmd has own registry editor as well, in Plugins/registry.

I have downloaded the regedit (Smartphone 2000, 2003 ARM/PXA) downloaded the CAB in my storage card and installed the application in my device. It installed successfuly and I can see the application in my all programs.
But issue is:
when I start the RegEdit I can see HKCR, HKCU, HKLM AND HKUSERS. But I cant open those keys.. mean there is no sub folders.... I sthere any thing I am missing... or I should download the PocketPC edition 2000, 2003 one?
Can you explain just exactly what it is you are trying to do and why?
You have to download PPC edition. Smartphone is device without touch screen.

I am trying to make my phone read Ringtones from my Memory Card. This require some registry change which "prdic" is trying to help me.
???????????
If I go to the folder on my storage card which includes any sound file (mp3s included) tap and hold the file name an option pop up menu gives just what I think you are looking for!

He don't want the ringtones to be stored on the main memory I'm pretty sure, that's why he asked for this.

Taking up memory? =) Main memory should be used only for \Windows and such, not ringtones, music or pictures. Also it's nice to have all programs on \Storage Card.

Yes I know this one. I've heard it many times before and I've had long forum discussions about it in the past.
May be we should start another thread for those who many have missed the two sides of the argument?

This does work, but I dont want the ringtones to be stored in Main memory or being copied to \My Documents\My Ringtones folder. So I was looking for any config change where it should point to the folder that I want .
PS:
- The Registry change that "prdic" suggested does not work. I tried with \Storage Card\<MyFolder> and \StorageCard\<MyFolder> both did not worked for me. I restarted the mobile too after change.
- And "ArtieQ" you are correct, I dont want the Main Memory to be used for the reasons explained by you. Thanks for that.

Don't get me wrong, I now understand what you you want.
I just don't understand why you want it.
The 'reasons' explained are preferences and accessing memory card storage will slow the process down as it's not as fast as main storage so what is the advantage to using mem card in this way?
OS runs in it's own area so this is not compromised and there's plenty of RAM for any files or apps to be located without problem. This area is faster than mem card as well.
Also if you change mem card for any reason you loose the links anyway.
Plus with all these extra OS calls across the mem bus you run the risk of freezes.
If you need a loaf of bread in a hurry you go to the nearest shop!
ArtieQ-
Can you explain further please?
"Taking up memory? =) Main memory should be used only for \Windows and such, not ringtones, music or pictures. Also it's nice to have all programs on \Storage Card."
Why should main memory only be use for \Windows and such etc?
And why is it nice to have all programs on \Storage Card?
I ask this because I can't see any technical reason for it and I believe it cause operating problems if its done!

1. More memory available = Better performance, and a storage card is used for music and such isn't it? That's the reason why main memory only is 800mb.
2. All programs on storage card instead of main memory = More RAM available = Better performance.
I don't know if it helps, but you can change the location of "My Documents" all together to storage card by using Advanced Config --> Locations.
As for myself, I prefer having the mp3-ringtones in phone memory for quicker access.
Is it possible to switch, or have the option to select ring tones that within a directory on my SD card instead of in system memory?
Please advise, thanks!
Anyone on this? I remember it used to be possible on other HTC phones, I think with a registry entry, but I would like to avoid having the main memory filled with ringers!
I think you can just copy the ringtones to your sd card root and the ringtone selector will automatically pick up all the files...
I just used MP3 Clipper to play the file and saved it where is wants it. Then went to the ringtone selector and there is was.
Thanks guys, I figured out the solution. There are only two default areas that the HD2 will look for ring tones and system sounds (without a registry hack, which I do not have). The first location is in system memory, which is what I was trying to avoid by putting my new ring tones on the SD card...
All you need to do is put any new ring tones in the following directory:
\Storage Card\My Documents
They cannot be within a sub-directory of My Documents either, mind you, they must be right out in the main MY Documents directory, but then these sound files can be picked up for ring tones & system sounds anywhere in the HD2's settings. This saves your phone some internal memory, shoving it off the the almost limitless SD cards we can put in these bad boys!
I hope this helps some others here.
Definetly better then device storage so thx for the hint.
Well a lot of people noticed a problem with HTC Music tab. Library shows not only music but ring tones and other sounds. One way to stop it is to hide offending folders. One problem with that is if you hide for example ring tone folder you can not select your ring tones as they are hidden as well.
What I did is as goes. I have music on SD card, also there is tomtom, copilot and some other apps. I have hidden all of the apps that might have sounds so they do not show up in library. Obviously left folder with music not hidden.
That will take care of SD card.
For My Device sounds do steps below:
1. Start from removing your card and then going to music tab so it rescans and states no music found. (Skip to step 3 if you are starting from clean rom)
2. Go to registry editor of your choice and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng (for german it will be AudioManager_Ger)\Information
Delete all items in that folder. You will not be able to delete Information it self.
If you are on clean rom you will not even have that folder it is created 1st time when music tab finds music.
3. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config
In there change:
"device_scan_path_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
"device_scan_path_path_0" from what ever there is to \Windows
"ring_tone_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
What this will do is exclude all files in windows folder. If you have any files in my documents they will show up. I assume if you just put "\" instead of "\Windows" it will exclude entire my device but did not test it.
4. Soft reset, insert your SD card and enjoy.
I have my mp3's on sd card: X:\music
Is it possible to set that only this folder is scanned?
"device_scan_path_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
"device_scan_path_path_0" from what ever there is to \Windows
"ring_tone_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
I am wondering if doing this on just the ring tone path will do... essentially excluding the whole windows folder?
One of these device scan path should be for the SD Card.... if so, it would be great cause then we can exclude the program files for stuff like games installed on the SD card...

Did not work for me. I had to change all to windows. I am thinking that if I were to exclude entire my device by putting just \ it would also exclude storage card as that appears as one of folders.
On my sd card I have hidden tomtom and it's maps so no sounds from there show up.
Did not find anywhere option to only scan selected folder, there is only option to select what not to scan and you only have one entry.
Oh yes one more device scan path is my documents by default and folder to exclude is my documents\my ringtones yet all ringtones from windows folder where showing up. Obviously device scan path does not work exactly as expected.

In short no, or not that I know off. HTC did it from cats end just like htc album folder. Instead of letting us select what folders to add in registry you have to edit what folders not to scan. However in album you can have more then one entry in music tab you can not.
I must add that since I edited that registry entry I have no ring tones at all in my music tab.
You are a star! Thank you for this... I can use this to sort out my wife's phone too!
Thanks for the easy to understand tutorial!

It works for me but isnt the meaning of "device scan path" normally the path where music is stored?
Im just a bit confused about it.
Wouldnt it be enough to state the first link to sd card?
Correct me if im wrong but i understand that the first shortcut goes to the path where music should be searched in.
The second i understand as the path where NOT to search.
And the third exists just to make sure the ringtones arent added.
Just for the understanding for me.
It works like a charm tho. And thats most important part in here

I 100% agree with you it makes no sense what so ever. It seems that instead of dong it the normal way where you point what to scan they did it hte othe way around where you point what not to scan.
