Ok, I like to cook my own Appelflap rom . Just for myself. I thought it was a good idea to start with the 2.07 rom and just strip all the unnessecary packages, nothing more and nothing less.
Is there a easy way to start this project up or do I really have to delve in all those documentation about rom-cooking No really, I'm asking myself if there's a pragmatic way of cooking my own rom by starting from a base rom, strip some software and eventually, when I'm in the mood and have some time, teach myself some advanced stuff, like adjusting the os, drivers, manila etc.
Maybe someone can give me some pointers so I can get a head start. If it can't be done, if I really have to work my way through all that rom-cooking documentation, please let me know also.
+1 on that. i am also interested in an easy way of cooking a rom.
In dutch for Appleflap:
Hmmm.
EDIT: Gevonden! Kijk in tread 622230 (Gewoon bovenin na ?t= invullen)
De benodigde documenten zijn engels!
In English:
Hmmm. I don't know. I saw earlier a method, but that was too difficult.
EDIT: Founded! Tread no. 622230
Ok, I have the ingredients
LOL, just dumped my first rom. I'm feeling like a baby coming into this world
Ok, that part was easy
In case someone is interested:
1. Extract a signed (official or test) rom with Winrar (or..) and have the RUU_signed.nbh file ready. I extracted the 2.07 test rom.
2. Then (or before, whatever you like) extract Ervius Visual Kitchen (get it here) to a folder
3. Then (or before, whatever you like) read the following guide with a lot of impatience Sous-Chef's Guide till post nr. 4 (this one)
(I think, pragmatically spoken, one can read the info before this post when it is needed)
I'm now going to follow the rest of the Sous-Chef's guide, because I think it is really well written for newbies....
Maybe some newbies wants to jump in so we can start our own cooking class. I'm sure some chefs will help us out if we are making a mess of it
If you download a Kitchen what is based on the 2.07 ROM, then it's easy.
But building your own Kitchen.. Can take some time.

Ok, that's a good tip. Don't like to waste time. Where can one download a 2.07 based kitchen?
i can upload my kitchen, but making a kitchen is easy not more than 5 min work !

5 min work? Ok, I can miss that amount of time. I have dumped the 2.07 rom and now i'm copying all the folders to the root directory of the ervius visual kitchen folder. Do I have now a "2.07 based kitchen"?
Peter, I hope when it gets really messy I can ask your help. For now I'm going to follow the sous-chefs guide. Is that a good idea? Or do you know some better guides.
(Dutch answers are welcome, I will translate into appelflap-english )

2 hours, and you just said 5 minutes But that would be really nice Peter!
Meanwhile I'm going to mess up my own kitchen (I'm back at step 1, copied the dump folder but some files couldn't be copied because the kitchen was still open/running)
@wouterg1: How are you doing? Have you dumped a rom yet. It is really easy. (the description of the folders at the beginning of the sous-chef guide are making sense when you dumped a rom. [DUTCH]Geleuter of SYS, EXT etc folder gewoon skippen.

I would appreciate a link to that one!
if your using evk then you dont need to to copy anything as it sets everything up in the dump folder. in theory any way
do take time to read theres lots of info out there
if you just want to
rebuild the dump then you will need to recmod ntfconfig. read up on what recmod does, but as your using evk you can take the file straight out off the folder paste it somewhere like your desktop. delete the original ntfconfig folder and move the file back in to the notification manager files folder.
@ appelflap Still uploading i got 28KB , i will sent u pm when ready...
But fards is right making with EVK is very easy ! U can do this in 5 min !

+1 on that! Still trying after a year
Ga deze thread volgen !

Thanks. You're right, there isn't any need to copy the dump.
I'm trying to read up, but there's a lot of info. Basically what I want to do is to remove some packages, adding some of my own and set the device up the way I do it now after I flash a new rom (tweaking the reg, moving some start menu folders, creating a couple of shortcuts, changing the bootscreens etc.) Nothing more really. I'm assuming that the base rom is running just fine for my purpose right now. No need to alter the cache, page pool etc etc.
What do you think, is it worthwhile to cook for just this purpose? Do I have to delve deeper into altering page pools, XIPs, cache's? I mean, doesn't the rom slow down when you just dump it, remove some stuff from it, recompile it and flash it again?
(Comments from other chefs are also very welcome)

Would it be helpful and possibe that we post all our selfcooked SYS folders, which are successfully packed in form of zip files into this thread?
So everybody has to change to add those in the kitchen.
May be we do the description or declaration of the SYS Folder in the following form (to discuss):
DeviceType_Softwarename_Softwareversion_Language
For example: Artemis_HTC_Audiomanager_V.4711.007_WWE
I start with some helpful tools, which i had tested on my Artemis with WM6:
- 1-Calc (Multilanguage Calculator)
- BatterieStatus (tune your CPU - Turboloader)
- Pocket Screen Capture Tool (make screen shots)
- Total Commander 2 (powerful File Explorer)
Let´s start the Developement Center SYS!!!
If you find that it will be a good idea - make it sticky!!!

now I understand what you mean.. Packages..
SYS folder is 100+MB! I thought you were zipping up the whole thing and posting that.. that would have been a problem, packages are much smaller and go in the SYS or OEM folder.. makes much more sense
good start.. I have some hermes ones that I can try zipping, i'll get someone to test them on a Artemis first though.

Yes - so it is! You can directly integrate the Folders in your Core Kitchen environment. Or store them in your package area ;-).

German CAB
Gentlemen and Gentleladies,
here is the German CAB:
http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=394176
When installing the CAB a strange error message popped up (a bubble without text, just offering a YES and a NO button). I pressed the YES-button (no risk, no fun), and the CAB installed without any further problems.
I tested all applications, and they work like a charm. No big changes, but obviously new office'07 templates (e.g. .docx) are being used as default. A good thing is that the programme icons have been changed and look much nicer now, a bad thing is that the progs are really eating RAM (I lost approx. 5 MB compared with the situation before install!). Too me, it looks as if this is mainly due to some big new .dll's that are being placed in the windows directory. I assume that for any other software company the huge memory consumption would be a reason to withdraw the progs, but with MS I am not so sure...
Does' anyone have the msi file with all language (I wan't italian)
What difference is this from the offic2007 cabs that are in some of the wizard roms?
Do you have a French version ?

Well, I have sent devices 2 times to O2 for repair (XDA Mini S and XDA Neo). Both times they sent me new ones (the best option ). And I had flashed them both with non-official ROMs, then flashed the original German one before sending. I'm not sure though whether I'd done Hard SPL changes - I'm not very much into it - I just followed some guides back then
So could someone please give me a setp by step guide, how to dump my O2 rom?
Thanks!

Yes and no. You can decompile the ROM dump and this way you gain access to all the files in the ROM. If you can decompile the nbh file, I don't know... I'll see if I can find the fms_api.dll in my backup files.
Edit: RAR attached

BACKUP ROMDeleted...!
If you want the original German o2 Xda orbit 2 backup ROM, have a look here instead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2014936&postcount=41
I made a new topic for this because there is new info and needs attention.
I installed copilot live trial for the touch pro 2,( and diamond 2). There is a link on the HTC website.
After trying it out, I tried to delete it.
There is NO way the program can be deleted. I did hard resets, reflashed my ROM, but no luck. After the first boot the program is there again. (while doing the hard resets I removed the memmory card ofcourse)
I called the copilot customer service and they said to me that it won’t go off the phone anymore. I was stunned, trial software that after installing won’t go off anymore?
I called up HTC customer support. After two hours of trying they didn’t know how to get it off. We were doing an Hard reset for the third time to make sure it didn’t go wrong the other two times........ So I told them I was going to try to install a ROM from another language.
Sadly this didn’t work, I need to wait for the hardSPL to arrive before I'l be able to instal some other ROM. Instead, I flashed my phone again with the newest rom from HTC. And guess what, it’s still there.
So I just want to send out a warning that people should not install the copilot trial (unless you totally love it, and don't want to live without it). Don’t know what I should do now.
There also is nothing in the agreement of the product.
I do not know much about what my rights are or how I can demand from copilot they make a removal tool, but I do got the feeling this isn't very fair play.
Regards,
Quarintus
lol cant believe it, its already in the newest ROM from the HTC website??? they cooked it in
i have also installed the crappyROM Update,
you can delete the CoPilot files, but not the .cab himself....
Just got another reaction from copilot:
Bedankt voor het contacteren van de CoPilot Technische Hulpdienst.
Vanwege de HTC Buggy ROM'S is het niet mogelijk om de installers van de trial versie Copilot volledig te verwijderen.
Ik hoop dat u met deze informatie tevreden bent, mocht u alsnog vragen hebben dan sta ik graag tot uw beschikking.
translation:
Thankyou for contacting the Copilot technical helpdesk.
Because of the Buggy HTC Rom's it isn't possible to remove the installers of the trial version Copilot live completely.
Surely there must be some way to delete all the files, and then remove any relevant registry entries?
My phone is currently with HTC being repaired, so they will send it back with the latest ROM installed, and I want to try CPL8 so don't want 7 on there :S
Sorry to hear about this.
I need to confirm I understand this.
If hard-reset won't make it go away, it HAS to be within the ROM files itself, right?
If so, then it's clearly a HTC issue.
I looked inside the CAB file with WinCE CAB Editor and deleted all the files and registry entries listed from my TP2. CoPilot is completely gone.
i just updated the rom on my touch pro 2, and now the stupid trial is there so pissed off :/ I NEEEEED A WAY TO GET IT OFF
Install Copilot version 8 trail over version 7 and remove version 8 again?
Use thee HTC ROM Image Editor and delete the cab file from the nbh file.

Hi,
I've been searching this forum for quite a long time now (months by now, in intervals of course), and I have not been able to find an updated 'clean/light ROM'. With clean/light, I mean stripped of all unneeded stuff to boot. A true barebone...
The only ROM I was able to find, is the one Onkolog made some time ago, but (s)he decided to abandon the project for personal reasons. (this project was updated last in July 2009)
The only 'clean ROMs' that I can find, are ROMs that 'don't add a lot of stuff' (some that only remove the HTC-interface). But they mostly still contain stuff like Office, Youtube, etc. etc.
There was some discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830951&page=2
Also, there is Siemens Lover's WM 6.5 Clean ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634514
I have NOT tried any of those "clean" ROMs, so you have to check for yourself...
Thanks
Thanks for your reply, but those are not clean as what I call clean.
Both contain unneceray apps.
The first link contains among other things: Office, pocketRAR
The second link I am using now, but contains all kinds of apps too, like: Office, Media Player
What I mean is a 'truly clean ROM', only the base OS (What you get when you disable Titanium or Sense) and no other unnecessary (for OS-purposes) apps. It can of course contain some optimizations and/or driver updates, but that's it.
this belongs to general thread since it has nothing to do with development
try several roms and decide which one suits you best i suggest kwbr (it has just a few oem apps) it is far most stable and fast...you might want to try titanium version since it has most free space, that will enable you to install whatever you want (mobile shell, wad etc)
mods please close this thread,or move it,doesn't matter
Apologies, you're right. My thread should belong in General. And please don't close the thread, cause it DOES matter to me.
I have tried a lot of ROMs, and I haven't found any truly clean one (save Onkolog's, but that one is getting 'old')
no,really try kwbr, you won't regret it at all
try titanium version if you want to install some home replacement eg spb mobileshell
if you want sense or manila try com3 versions with those two
Dude, if you want a really clean ROM, try onkolog's cookies. His thread is somewhere here, just use search.
Oh, here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502618 (both 6.5 and 6.1)
@ lenwar,
what is ur point looking for such a ROM?
The Progs that u do not want take a minimum space and use no memory when they r disabled, so i do not understand why r u looking for such a naked ROM? can u explain plz?

@SiemensLover
By clean OP means not just "some speed improvements and everything is stock" but a really cleaned up ROM without WM and HTC crap, so HE can decide what to use in his device.
And what should/should not be included in such a ROM?

Well, just essentials that keep our device running (drivers, wmp [because of hardware acceleration] etc.). Something like that.
What should be added and what not
@Siemenslover
The idea, as stated by others is to have a clean phone, with as little preinstalled applications on it, as possible. Of course most applications/features take a minimum amount of resources, and basically 'just sit there', but it's also the principle to not have all kinds of stuff on my phone, that I don't want.
The most ideal would be to strip everything except for the following:
Basic Windows Mobile (so the start-button, and the screens you get when you browse through your apps and settings)
Phone
Messaging
Contacts
Calendar
File Explorer
ActiveSync
Camera
And the following as removable packages (or provide the packages loose (unless they are available elsewhere on xda-developers (haven't looked))):
QuickGPS
The picture viewer
WMP
Internet Explorer
That's it... The above is what I call "clean", package wise.
Just add (about) three standard ringtones and message-tones (preferable some neutral one's)
Check Onkolog's latest ROM's as a reference. He provided what he removed/kept out in his ultra lite ROMs... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502618

Tooo... BURAZERU !!! "kwbr"-ovi ROM-ovi su DEFFinitivno NAJbolji za "Blackstone"-a !!! A kombinacija "Titanijum" i "Shell 3.5" je IDEALNA ! NISAM PROGRAMER,JA sam HIRURG i "AtlasPROfilax"-sprcijalista !!!

well, yes it is,but interesting thing about kwbr rom is that it made me like sense, which is very quick in this rom (although i hated sense before trying kwbr, because sense roms were sooooo slow....i believe because other chefs put latest versions which are LEO builds, and kwbr used a bit older version which is a RHODIUM build...he's a brilliant cook)
cheers
