NAND Flash for Android!! For Real? - Touch HD General

Anyone seen this thread in the polaris forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625200
They claim to have working ROM to flash directly to NAND for a few devices. (Not Blackstone though) So can a Android Blackstone ROM be far out?

to be honest this flash is pretty pointless until android has got rid of the bug that keeps causing it not to wake up because once thats fixed it will be stable enough to use as a rom but for the moment there not much point in it except for proof of concept

Yes, but this seems like a HUGE move forward. Some have said there would never be a flashable ROM for Android on WinMo phones, or at least a long time out.

It's far from pointless, it's now the way forward for the kaiser, polaris and vogue Android users, yes it's still in development, yes there are still issues, but it's yet another step to a single flashable nbh based system for ROM installation, thanks to this method we now have working gps, wifi, sleep, lower battery drain and faster systems than we did 2 months ago.
Yes there is still a lot of work to be done, but the progress over the last months has been outstanding.
Don't know if anyone is working on a Nand flashable installer for the Blackstone or not, but I think it's only a matter of time.

if like you said sleep is working it is worth flashing, i suppose i am constantly using android and am reseting every time it crashes but for some users this isn't viable at all

It's still experimental, I use it flashed for experimenting with, but it's still not stable enough for the average user, i carry an sd with a rom image if i really need to reflash back to winmo.
however it's in active development, and is getting more useable all the time.

this is really really exciting stuff how long do you think until this will be availible for the average user and if you need some more testers for this shot me a pm on how to do this and i will be more than willing

just been reading through that thread and by the looks of this flashing it onto your device seems to be much more stable people have been able to et gps working, but i'm confused whats the difference between a nand flash and a normal flash because from what i've been reading it seems as if you have to flash something then do the rest on your device. but i am looking into this and when i understand it, if its possible (with a few mods) i will flash on to touch hd, but from what i understand atm it doesn't seem possible its all just waiting for the devs atm

com'on theres gotta be some dev out there working on this is so please contact me i wonna help.

Ive heard by a friend that they have sucsessfully flased a iPhone with android. Can anyone confirm this? This is all i could find using our friend google

this wouldn't surprise me much but would also surprise me as well at the same time firstly due to the fact that android is taking over iphone os very rapidly and in my opinion for at least me i think it is far superior due to editabiltyconfused and things like that but i would be a bit surprised as this is apple and they really do lock there devices down alot, i mean i am typing this from a mac and i love it and i personally have never need windows on it and will never need it but it kinda seems quite unlikely if there aren't any videos or anything on youtube.

[Q] android on main storage and roms?

hey guys,
i have a lot of questions...
i tried android on my hd a lot of times....
the first times it worked finde but the latest roms are all crashed after a while
after deep sleep they are all freezing...
so the first question, is it an issue of my rom i´m using?
which one are you using for android? especially the devs which one are you using to try youre andrid?
i think its the best way if evertybody is using the same one to find out whick´h errors are comin from the windows rom or from android?
okay next question...
why is it not possible to install the cab on the main storage of the hd? a lot of errors are issued by the slow spped of the sd card? in my opinion it would fix a lot of probs if we can install android on the main storage, it would imrpove speed and saves sd card?
i´m not a dev so i don´t know if there is any possibility or not, its just a question for my understanding
i´m really looking forward to see a android rom for he hd bur i know its hard work for our devs here...
maybe we can make a bonus, everybody who wants a rom for android will pay 10 euros or dollar in jackpot and the guy who make a rom working will win the pot ;-)
thanxs for your answers and sorry for that bad german english
best wishes from germany
tom
is there really nobody who lnwos any answers?
it's just useless to reply because it has already been explained 10.000 times all over. If you at least 'd take the time to read
where is it explained which rom each dev is using? is ther any thread? if yes pls show me, cause i read a lot of time here.
and where is exaxtly written why we definitly canßt use the mainstorage?
We still need windows to initialize a lot of the hardware before launching android, for the moment.
At the moment, we cannot figure out the way to initialize it before booting android, this is why there's no android ROM ready.
Besides, there's still a lot more urgent/important things to do before (Deep sleep causing crashes, HW3D not working on Blackstone, and battery life, for example)

It's explain, countless time.
READ
then read again.
It's in the virtually all the main FAQ's.
AND this isn't a f**king ROM... THAT is explained in the FAQ's too.
oh i think you got me wrong. i don't want to install it like a rom. my questiin was about installing the cab on the mainstorage instead of the sd card. cause the reading time of the sd will be the biggest ussue which makes android slow and will causetbe problem of the waiting for... problems.

Please, there's no need to be rude, even if those questions were already asked and answered countless time, you're just losing your own time.

For the moment, we don't have access to the mainstorage from android, only the sdcard, if I remember correctly.
Alright people!
I am the developer of the SenseHERO rom for the HTC Hero (http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698281). I have recently obtained a HTC Touch HD so I will begin developing for you when I get some spare time.
Has anybody yet been successfully in getting tinboot working from NAND yet? If not then I may have to get my hands dirty and see what I can achieve just for experimental purposes obviously with the full awareness that alot of work will be needed to get hardware properly initialized.
If we get stuck the best person to get info for this would be DZO who made android from NAND a reality for the Vogue/Kaiser who are now running it on their Devices as stable & fast as the Native Android Phones..

Stock vs custom stability question

I got my wife a HD2 from tmo. She loves the hardware, of course, but the phone is stock and locks up way, way too often.
I was wondering if the custom ROMs suffer from this too or if they have alleviated this issue. I can flash her device easy, but don't want to play support desk for her.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I think this question relates specifically to ROM development vs general dev questions, but Mods please free to move or lock if you have to.

Custom ROM's are generally very stable compared to the Stock, however, when I used my stock, it was stable as hell, it's just on a case to case basis. But sounds like on your situation, flashing a Custom ROM would help.
on my stock HD2 i found that the more txts i had the more it would lock up, and every time i would clear them the phone would run perfect, but i hate to clear my txts so i use the energy rom by NRG. cant be happier.

Same here, mine was pretty stable with the exception of the messaging problem. But man are the custom's smooth and fast! My wife's on the other hand has had numerous lockups...
Sounds like you know your way around flashing but just make sure to READ, READ, READ so you don't end up giving your wife back a paperweight.
The folks around the community have made it extremely easy to do but it's also just as easy to brick it. With the advent of HSPL3, the task29 exe file, I can go from Rom to Rom in about half an hour (after setting everything up on the new one).
As far as which ROM is best (if you find yourself asking that question); that's not a question that's really "allowed" here and usually gets a thread locked. I found that just reading the first few posts of each thread to get the jist of what they offer and then it all comes down to just flashing it, playing around with it and see if you like it.
$0.02
have you tried the updated TMobile US ROM? 2.13...? It is pretty stable. I used it for a couple months. Recently though flashed a custom ROM (Elegancia GTX) for fun, and it is actually faster, and seems even more stable.
The BEST way to make your HD2 stable...completely...is to disable HTC Sense and just use Windows Default (Titanium) or the older traditional WM Today Screen. Using HTC sense caused a need to reset my HD2 too often. Usually once a day or every two days at the longest between resets. With HTC sense disabled I might turn the phone off and on one or two times per week...and that is by choice usually.

ROM/Camera Question

Hey guys!
I haven't been on in quite a bit.
I was browsing through some of the custom WP7 roms, and couldn't really find an answer to my question.
I'm using the original WP7 on my HD2. It's the one DFT released... The first WP7 rom for the HD2.
My question is this:
Has the camera been fixed in any of the newer ROMS?
I have no complaints with the original build other than the camera not working very well. Even shooting videos gives me focus problems.
Oh, and one other thing: My Zune music is always set to shuffle now. Can't seem to correct it.
Anyway, sorry if this has been asked and covered before. I just haven't been on the forums in a month or so.
This software works fine with the camera. Use it.

Thanks for the link. I'll give it a try.
Any idea why my Zune music won't stop shuffling?

DOnt know about zune im afraid, doesnt happen to me....as for the camera, teh link supplied above is fine for most things, its not very intigrated but you cant have everything!
as for a fix, nope, and unlikely
as for the ROMs, they are all the same ROM, there is no development branchs available, and there are no tools available to build a full ROM yourself, dont expect anything like the amount of modding available to WM6 systems. its also unlikely we will get more compatible drivers for our device since its now quite old
personally, i think its very much a case of, you get what you pay for, if you want better then your going to need to spend some more cash an buy a WP7 device.

The ROM really works great. I have no complaints with it. Just seeing if there had been any progress with the camera, that's all.
This Zune shuffling thing is baffling me. I distinctly remember seeing something about it awhile back, but I can't find anything in the forums about it.
One day all my music played normally, and the next, it will only shuffle. Strange indeed.

[Q] Re-flashing My Rom

Hello guys and gals,
I've been reading this forum for a few years now and really appreciate the community. I've learned so much from everyone I wish I could repay you all somehow. Thanks in advance for the assistance, I'm a little rusty so please bare with me.
I've got my HTC Leo working with CyanogenMod-6.1.0-Nightly-HD2(AndroidMediaUltimate) on top of CoreCell (unsure of the version at the moment, will edit soon)
The phone has been running a little wonky lately and freezing like crazy when the accellorometer changes states or when I'm using the camera. I also have some odd issues with WiFi dropping out and then giving an error... it's just time to reflash I think.
My question is, where do I start? LOL It's all changed since I initially flashed and I don't know if either SD or NAND has benefit over the other. I also want to stick to the Cyanogen build as it's been my favorite, but are there any others that are seriously worth testing? I don't have a lot of time on my hands as I'm busy with work and kids around, etc.
Are there any helpful souls out there who are willing to point me in the right direction? I don't need my hand held, I just need to get on the path and I can figure out the rest. Thank you again for reading and hopefully the assist!
you should try NativeSD where you install your ROM's ( you can have as many as you like depending on the size of the EXT4) in SD which is almost as fast as NAND & you'll have lot's of space for apps to install.
which loader are you using? MAGLDR or CLK?
try this link so that you'll have an idea
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31414628#post31414628
BTW No need to flash radio & use task29 & if ever you will flash radio be careful w/ Tmo's as some radio version can brick it.
Thank you Mengfei! I'm using the Haret loader, afaik? I haven't loaded into CoreCell in so long I just don't remember off the top of my head.
Also, I've switched to AT&T GoPhone service. I moved to the UK a couple years ago and had my phone unlocked when they were still handing out the codes. I'm hoping that I can spoof the APN and get my data service as it's inoperable at the moment. The radio I'm on is really solid, I switched it when I was in the UK for the o2 network. It seems to work on the cingular/AT&T network well, so I'll probably leave it for the time being.
Is there a specific build, rom/loader/etc, that you prefer for the Leo? -edit- After reading some of your posts, I've also gained some curiosity if WP7 has any benefit opposed to WinMo6.5? I don't use the windows side at all of the phone, so unless it's quicker to boot or more stable, is there any real need?

If you don't use Windows at all then there's really no point to using SD, just flash NAND. Some people say that NativeSD is faster than NAND but that really depends on your SD card whilst NAND will always be fairly fast. Follow the guide in my sig and you should be fine.

Most Vanilla / Cleanest ROM?

Sorry if this has been asked before.
My phone was recently stolen so I have been using my S4 for over a month now however Samsung's OVER bloated 5.0.1 junk battery munching ROM is horrid and unbearable, its like trying to run Windows Vista!
I do not know anything about customs ROMs, and this will be my first attempt and I'm just looking for a ROM that WORKS without any drama. As Vanilla as humanly possible. Not interested in customizing anything, what ever Google offered stock I will be more then happy.
However I am LOST with all the ROMs listed. Some mention Xposed others mention kernals and its all very confusing and to be honest I just don't care. Can anyone who has tried these just tell me which to go for? I would really appreciate this.
Thanks!

Honestly, since you know nothing about custom ROMs, I'm going to advise you to read. And what I mean by that is do research on what it takes to install a custom ROM properly and how to set it up so it can benefit you. Decide which ROM looks good to you, determine if you can install it on your model then take the necessary steps to do so. Otherwise, if you're not up for that then stay where you are or you will absolutely earn a new paperweight.

Well I've seen enough YT videos to understand the concept/principle, but I'm just trying to find the most simplest ROM there is. As I use my phone for work also so I can't have it stop working every 2 seconds.
I've used a friends Pixel phone which runs base android essentially. Which ROM here is the equivalent of that?
Thanks!

YouTube videos for custom ROMs is beyond moronic. It's not about how it looks, it's about what must go on your phone in order to get to that point of installation. You're looking for a ROM that is pure aosp. I have no idea what version of the s4 you're on but this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...dcteam-android-source-project-nrd90m-t3453084 is pure aosp, based on Android 7.1.2. It worked flawless when I ran it.
Thanks, found this one on YT and it seems fairly straight forward to install, starts from 5:30

Unless I'm missing something here?
Thanks again
