[TEST] My tests in various ROM - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

Well in 2 days of use with HD2, I can say the following:
- I tested 6 different ROM's (1 officer, 2 Dutty'sa 21,891 HG 0.8V 2:07 and Multi Lang 1.66, 1 Energy 21,891, Artemis PTG 21,891, 21,891 Miri V4)
- All based on 21,891 appear to be faster, but based versions Leo 2.07 - Miri and Dutty, heating, battery consumption were decisive.
- The Leo based 1.66 - Official WWE and Dutty's PTG, are with better battery life, at this point officially lasted longer, but was with another RADIO most appropriate test to do this today with the Dutty PTG 1.66.
Following is my analysis for each of the ROM's
Tip 1: The comments follow the order of the tests.
Tip 2: The consumption was measured in 2HS use, shortly after the placement of the ROM and then the second HardReset. % check the battery and after 2 hours as I consumed, installing and synchronizing all data and applications. Also making 2 connections (from 3 - 5 min.) Synchronizing Twitter, e-mail with Hotmail (50 e-mails), Outlook e-mails (20 e-mails), updating the weather and stock market.

It really is very stable with an excellent battery life but with few improvements. I stayed with her more than 8 hours. Very nice even. All functions are executed perfectly and smoothly.
TaskManager: Works perfectly, closing the applications on the "X"
Only problem is to install 1 by 1 each application.

Perhaps the best speed X applications, complete and practically is to install and use, for already the MaxManila much easier to like and use this application. One downside is the poor functioning of the Multi-Touch Zoom of the images and applications.

Is that atualmnete'm using, balances the demand on battery power with speed and simplicity.
The drawback for me was having to install and configure MaxManila, although the version of Sense should support the Maxmanila 2.9 and 3.0, gives error when installing, is to install version 2.7 and the correction of Dutty: Duttys Manila Default Left Soft Key.cab

The ROM's that increase the RAM of 448MB to 576MB, although "excited" very warm and "drain" the battery .
The timing was satisfactory in all, just highlighting a significant delay (15 min) in Artemis HD2 V3.0 PTG WM6.5.5 Leo + 2.02 and an incredible Speed (1.5 min) in the Journal: HTC HD2 - RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.410.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07
In the settings "Wireless (Wi-Fi, GPRS, Bluetooth) All were promised with the negative factor of Miri_HD2_WM65_21891_Sense25_V4.0 did not work the "next" for control via Bluetooth in "xplod" (sound of my car)
Auto-Rotate. In all by far is satisfactory, focus back to the Journal: HTC HD2 - RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.410.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51 .07 that with MaxManila worked very well, others had crashes and freezes.
The weather forecast synchronized very quickly, especially Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.21891.5.0.88_1.66_Multi_Lang_V1.8_PTG that is a database later, because even found my city Caieiras.
In all worked perfect.
settings and applications pre-installed.
I'm spoiled by the ROM's Energy, then to me, all except the very Energy.Leo.21891.Leo_MaxManila_07.Feb .2010 they see disabled people in critical applications, such as registry editor. OK, so just keep the cab card and install, but for testing and / or "flash" a ROM and start using, it is bad.
Conclusion
For everyday use I recommend only the ROM-based Leo 1.66, because as already mentioned above the Leo Leo 2:07 and 2:02 have problems. The 1st few crashes and 2nd Heating + "Drainage" battery.
Although not commented, I realized that the main problem of "draining" the battery though it is related to the increased RAM, it also has to do with the release of RADIO.
So, I believe that the ROM more stable and with good durability, yet be the Official and the RADIO 2.06.51.07
I still have to test here:
HTC HD2-RUU_Leo_HTC_PTG_1.66.410.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07
Another official, based on the same I got from This was the unit I received, yet in PTG!
Laurentius26_LEOV4.5_WWE
but never used as a ROM of it, neither the HD or in other HTC, I left last.

very interesting comparison, however i have 2 comments:
- you've left out important roms from chefs like laurentius26 or xannytech, which is like comparing supercars and disregarding say, porsche and ferrari
- the result is strange because the last in your analysis is the best for me (artemis)
so i guess either you did something wrong, or the performance we experience very much depends on our location

In this case I do not know, the applications were the same devices also ....
It was not that I left out the laurentius26 or xannytech actually did not have time to test it yet ... after all were 2 days where I stayed awake almost 36 hours, and in the case of laurentius26 never tested one of their ROM, s in any other htc. So I had to create a register there and then download, while testing the other.
I promise I'll try and put my impressions ...

Overclocking XDA2 to 796 Mhz!

After playing with PocketHackMaster, XCPUScalar I've found that noone of them was able to overclock my device reliably. So I've wrote my own program that uses undocummented OEMSetCpuFrequency IOCTL of NK.EXE. Program can be downloaded from http://mamaich.kasone.com/imate/Overclock.rar
I can send source code on request. Use this program at your own risk and backup before running it.
Program allows to manually adjust L, M, N parameters for Imate running 1.72 ROM (I have not tested older ROMs). The L parameter modifies SDRAM frequency (36 is a maximal value for my device), M - is a CPU frequency multiplier (shoul be left as a 4), N is a turbo mode for a normal mode multiplier. Setting its value to 1.5 makes the device work slower (though reported speed by PocketHackMaster and other tools is 796Mhz). My best results are 36/4/1 (530 Mhz) as shown on screenshots:

You may try other values. The smaller values may give the higher speed.
Cool..I'm trying it out...seems faster...but is it my mind playing tricks?
I'm using 1.66 and i set the overclock same as above.
I tried it many times and most of the benchmarks readings differ a bit.
Anyhow Checkout my test results....
Standard XDAII___________________After Overclock
Hmm...seems like the Standard XDAII is giving better results...but then again, I really dunno what all this mean....
Can someone explain it to me...errr in simple english please?
And one more thing, seems like the settings will change back everytime it is closed (by clicking 'OK' on top). Is the oveclock still running then?
Very thankful Mamaich! ..You are a good man..respect you.
Ser
I have not tested old ROMs like 1.66, but in my 1.72 overclocking is kept after the program is closed. Overclocking may reset after device goes into sleep state or when inserted into cradle. This is not tested.
Overclocking to 796 Mhs makes the device work slower than on 530 Mhz, I don't know why.
mamaich ..
Does it Work "Reliably" on the XDA-1, Running ROM Ver 3.17.03 ??
Thanx
Yeah,it takes the speed you choosed when you tep OK on 1.72 ROM.
My problem is that on 530Mhz my XDA2 freezes on Hard Processing Applications..like Windows Media Player,Pocket Quake,Etc..
Do you think is related to applications I have in background like: Spb Pocket Plus-MultIE and Caller ID monitor?
Someone can confirm that your ppc runs with no problems on 530mhz and more? if yes, what app do you have in background?
thanx
I think it is the same with overclocking computers... has to do with the fact that every processor is a different grade, all can run the 400mhz no problem, but only a few can do 530 without crashing.
Crashing or resetting is a sign that you've gone too far; usually you can overcome this by increasing the voltage of the CPU, but don't have that option in PPC.
I've asked this because many users runs 530mhz and more frequencies without problems.
That annoing me..I've removed all the background progs.. Tested many times with GX Benchmark whitout probs but when I run Windows Media Player it freezes after 30-40 sec.
Note: Only if I play a video file,like 300kbps..
Or if I play Quake,it freezes instantly.
In Os menu it runs very fast, but ..who want that if u can't run great games with this Clock.. :?
Let me know if your XDA2 supports this, maybe try also play a videofile about 300kbps for a minute..and let me know..
thanx
Using XCPUScalar I can run most things including games very well @472 and 530, but at neither Windows Media Player nor Pocket Player seem to like it. They'll often go to the next song 10-seconds to 1 minutes into it, and sometimes it will shut itself down. I would seriosuly recommend against overclocking to 700+ Mhz though unless you enjoy buying new phones.
I had the same problem with overclocking my Audiovox PPC 5050 to 530MHz. It would freeze after a few minutes of playing MP3s.
No,I say: It freezes when play videos at 300kbps and more..
No problems with mp3's..etc..
Using xpcuscalar I'm running my xda2 at 530Mhz with no problems at all, Use media player for mp3's in the car for a couple of hours a day along with tomtom 3. Only time I have any problems is sometimes (say 5% of the time) tomtom freezes after I recieve a phone call, but it does this if xcpuscalar is not running, so I don't think it's down to the overclocking.
Can play pocket quake and tomb raider without problems, mamece3 is a bit buggy though.
Sorry forgot to mention uk o2 rom 1.60 (offical o2 uk update rom) and xcpuscalar 2.62
Does anyone know what program i can use to benchmark my XDA2 ??,
I have overclocked mine to 530 and it is really flying along at the moment but it would be nice to get some figures as to how much faster it is?
OverClock
Hi mamaich and guys.
I placed the program in /Windows/Start Menu/Program folder. My Xda II runs stable and fast at 796MHz - not much difference in battery life compared against at 530MHz - which is great.
But however the only way I can keep OverClock running is to not display my Today (Desktop) screen. The program will close everytime I minimise it and reverting back to 400MHz.
Any ideas on how to rectify this please gentlemen?
TIA
I am running at 1500mhz, the flames and acrid smoke are wonderful, must go now the fire brigade want to see me.

My program changes the CPU speed only when you press the "apply" button. After then you can safely close it. The device would revert to 400 mhz after entering the sleep state or in some other reasons. Later I'll make my program resident so that it would continuously keep the device overclocked. I'll post a new version here.

It continue freezing on 530 if I play games,or other..
Ahh..I also CAN'T overclock to 796mhz,it freezes istantly!
The same to XcpuScalar on 530mhz,it freezes.
What problem can be guys? We are running on same devices, also I have a 1.72,Radio 1.14..
So what... **** happends
It's the same with each processor...
As you might know a 2.6 Ghz Pentium comes from the same wafer as a 3.6 GHz Pentium, but these processors are qualified for speed.
I don't think Intel is qualifing the XScales for Speed, this is not common in the mobile market. Here the chips are designed to reach a certain speed, all above is not really interesting.
Alex
a hard Hard reset!
I overclocked to 530, it worked perfectly. I tried to nearly 900, it freezed, I had to soft reset. OK.
Then I tried at nearly 600, it freezed, and I had to hard reset...twice
(ouf! I thought for a while that the device was good for the garbage can)

Im Getting My Magician Tomorrow!

Hi Guys,
Been using this great site for a while now but im not a great poster! lol Ive bought a Magician and it will be arriving tomorrow and just wondered if there is anything that i should be looking out for?
For example, what mods do you recommend? I.E Bluetooth Fix (may not exsist but just gave example) I cant wait to get it as ive used a few before and been very impressed!
Also does anyone have a link for TomTom 5 Cracked? would be much appriciated!
Hi, welcome to XDA DEV and congratulations with your purchase! If you search this forum, you will find many fixes and mods that have been applied to speed up the magician (through registry edits), gain extra memory (BigStorage is a good one!), improve the BT stack, remove the Simlock etc etc. Just look in the Magician forums and you will find many tweaking hapiness there. Be sure to back-up first before applying any mod, since they might cause a hard reset and data loss. Please DON'T ask for illegal software here, there is enough of that to be found on the internet, but not in this community. We like to tweak and mod things, but intend to do nothing illegal here. If any software or hack here is illegal in your country, don't use it.
Have fun with your new Magician!
Thanks for the welcome Koksie! Ive been having a browse though and thought that maybe it would be good to get a Top 10 things to do to your magician?
Just thought it would be handy for people like me that are new to the magician.
Can someone explain what bigstore is please? Sounds great.
BTW it hasnt arrived yet its scheduled before 1pm though!
Do a search for BigStorage, it involves flashing your Rom with a custom made one you made yourself. You can use the ROM that came with it ( if it is a new one, you will get the latest ROM I presume) or with a newer one ( if yours is a second hand device and has an older version. 1.13 is the newest one at the moment. Check in your start-settings-device information) Since a flash removes all your data, the best thing is to do it before you put any programs and information on it. basically it deletes the Extended ROM ( where your provider puts all its settings) and merges it with the internal storage, adding 20 MB extra of ROm storage, in other words, another 20 MB extra of memory that will not be deleted in case of empty battery. Another advantage of 20 MB of extra ROM is that you save another 20 MB of RAM (by ebanling you installing aps to ROm instead of RAM), so your Magician will be much faster and less battery consuming. Search for BigStorage and the method (including backing -up the Extended ROM for later use) will be explained in detail in several threads.
Same goes for removing the Simlock or extending the BT profiles. Just search for the right terms and the methods will pop-up.
Other worthwile apps are DKToday, BT SwitchIt, tel-on-off, AEBPlus and MortButtons. Check these out, they are very usefull apps. Many registry tweaks are also posted, they help to speed up your magician, change behaviour of applications and settings etc. You are right that a top 10 would be helpful, but just searching the forum will help a lot. for regedits serach for "registry edit magiacian"and I am sure helpful threads will appear.

I was in the same position as you are, as I recently switched from an XDAI (Wallaby) to the Magician.
Here are some things to consider and do.
1. You will definately fall in love with the device if you are a bit like me or the rest of the people here. You will want to use a long time, so before you go and use the device regularly, GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR. Even if it is just a cheap one to start with, protect the screen.
2. The regular Bluetooth stack is pretty unimpressive. It works OK, but does not offer a lot of options. If you are going to use BT get the CAB install that has just recenty popped up and is currently being discussed here. You can download in that thread, then you have a ton more options regarding BT.
3. The camera on my O2 branded device is crap (blue speckles in low light conditions). There is a fix out there to solve the problem a little bit. The ultimate solution is to install a updated camera software from T-Mobile devices which is more recent. I am still looking for a way to do this, have not dived into the topic completely.
4. If you are using your PPC device a lot, especially if you are using a large SD-Card for file storage one day or the other you will face the need of hooking up yur device to some friends computer to exchange some files. This is not easily done unless the other computer has ActiveSync running. To do this easily you can use Softick Card Export, which is a little tool that enables the Magician to act as a Mass Storage Device. When the program is enabled you just use your friendly USB cable to hook up to the other computer and your Magician is instantly connected without drivers (if it is a W2K+ or XP machine or something like this - Win98 will not work instantly).
5. Always carry a small USB cable with you. I love the possibility of charging my device whereever I find a USB port.
6. Software I will not leave home without:
- Wisbar Advance2 / Wisbar Advance Desktop plugin
- Total Commander
- Registry Editor of choice
- Memmaid
- Pockettools
- Sprite Backup
- Destinator PN (if you are going to use it as a GPS)
- Pocketmusic for mp3 playback
- Phonealarm plugin
- Some calendar plugin giving a good oversight of tasks and appointments
- eWallet (for keeping confidential info such as PINs etc. encrypted)
- Mobipocket Reader with a recent offline version of Wikipedia
- Pocketmechanic
- phonExt (better Dialer)
- RESCO Audio Recorder (allows mp3 recording)
- PhonePad chooser (customize the PhonePad design)
That should get you kind of started. Oh, wait, after I did the BigStorage hack I also replaced that butt-ugly O2 splash screen (screen displayed when you power on the device or do a soft/hard reset) with a selfmade one saying "hacked" and displaying the 18c3logo.

So does PhoneAlarm. I checked out PocketZenPhone, but decided I liked pA better. It's a matter of taste, I guess. Did you take a look at pA anyways?
This discussion is going on on another thread as well.
I use PA, it's got a lot of features that I like.
To be fair, I've not used PZP much because I didn't think that it did more then PA that was relevant to me.
I've set up PA with profiles on my Today screen, which seems to be what PZP is good for:

I will vote in a pool in this (or other) thread if you will create it. I tried download from your link three times with no success and now I see the message about download limit and country. Thanks for mirrors...
Edit: I tried... It is fast (comparing with pcarvalho's ROM much faster). There is not EZ input (not IGO issue, not stupid character window on photo-button). About 50Mb memory is realy nice.
I'm missing a timeSync aplication, total commander, SIP_CHANGE is neccessary.
Personaly i prefer big volume (HTC black) and restart button (ie. when power button pressed or in startmenu). Both I've seen it when I played bepe's kitchen as i remember.
After I disabled some M2D tabs (launcher, settings, people, location, weather), there is 52MB free memory !

The HTC Volume control not fully comparable with Polaris (I mean Blutooth A2P and HSP no volume change) The XDA Sutdown replaced with OEM Mega Shutdown packet. About SIP Change I just forgot =)
TimeSync app its good idea, if its small size can You attach cab
Also if You sync polaris with PC time will synchronize too (as i remember)

Yes the M2DC works, not fully, but works.
One thing
Do not change any thing in Launcher tab, and use only themes designed for M2Dv2
I have got this up and running and it is nice and quick. My only issue is that wifi is showing as being connected but it the device insists on connecting to a gprs connection when using internet. Any ideas? I am using the recommended ROM, have done a hard reset, etc.
Thanks
Edit: now fixed, my mistake, had chosen wifi to connect to work, not internet. Cool ROM, thanks.
I've tested almost every wm6.5 roms for polaris and this is the best among all.
Smooth and responsive, 4x mb rams free with m2d compared to 1x or single digit of other roms.
1 thing though, the comm manager shows wifi as unchangable, means I cant turn it on or off but I can do that in the connections page.
And some areas the screen seems to be less responsive to touches, probably a setting somewhere as it only happens there.
Keep on the good work!

The wifi in commanager works fine just resync You Polaris with PC and when it fully done unplug the cable.
if thats not help - softreset, kill replog.exe in Advanced Task Manager and repeat sync
NOTE: WiFi didnt work when Polaris connected to PC
Try to align screen with minimum pressure, also screen protector add some hardness to sensitivity
Just wanted to say I've not used many ROMS in the past, but so far this is my favourite one, my main requirements were responsiveness which this one seems to be meeting! Many thanks for your efforts
Im try all the roms here, but this is my favorite now!!
Fast, fully works with my vodafone card, great keyboard.
Nice work! THNX.

[APP] WiMoSpeed: [2010-12-18] V1.01

Please use the new thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887469.
CAUTION !!!
- USE THIS TOOL AT YOUR OWN RISK !!
- Overclocking your cpu may damage your device.
- Before autostarting the app be sure that your device will not hang.
- backup is always recommended !!DESCRIPTION :
WiMoSpeed lets you change the CPU-speed. In opposite to other tools, even to the predecessor OverClockTool (OCT), it manipulates the values WM uses for clock control. So it works reliable on battery and AC without any scripting or active components.USAGE :
- Download and install the CAB
- Start WiMoSpeed.exe. If it reports that it cannot identify your ROM: post here
- Select Speed
- Set Speed
- If desired create link (in installation directory) with actual settings
- Exit WiMoSpeed.exeTECHNIQUE
Basically WiMoSpeed is hardware-independent, because it lets WM change clock speed. But I couldn't get WM to switch the clock reliable on request so WiMoSpeed had to switch the clock registers itself on setting a new speed.
Therefore WiMoSpeed depends on CPU-hardware, RADIO- and OS-ROM.
Raising or lowering cpu speed didn't change battery drain or device temperature noticeable. So there isn't dynamic clocking in WiMoSpeed, but WM is still controlling and changing cpu-speed on battery.LIMITATIONS
WiMoSpeed supports Qualcomm MSM7200 (and compatible) and is limited to Rhodium and RhodiumW ROMs by now.
I took all shipped roms I could get and included the information into WiMoSpeed.
!!! If WiMoSpeed could not identify your ROM please post here what part of your ROM WiMoSpeed couldn't identify (OEMXIP and / or RADIO-ROM) and include a download-link of your ROM (OS, RADIO) !!! Thank you.
I will include Topaz ROMs next.thanks to
-all donators for the support
-eboelzner for Sense UI SDK
-dmvandijk for the icon
-the internet Please do not mirror WiMoSpeed !

I know OCT can be used with Topaz, because it has the same CPU as the Rhodium, but WiMoSpeed 1.00 is not recognizing the ROM my Topaz is using: Standard Energy (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562942).
More details at the signature.
Must add that WiMoSpeed is a great project! Best wishes for it.
Just installed it on my Tilt2. I was able to get to 768 MHz (up from 748 MHz I reached with OCT 1.5). Beyond 768 MHz it froze immediately. I will continue testing and post here any issues.
Looks great so far, and thank you for your hard work!
UPDATE: Stepping down to 748 MHz as Sense just froze while switching from the People tab to Home, when using 768 MHz.
Great app iwfratz!!
Downloaded and installed on my Tilt 2 running "Energy.RHODIUM.28244.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Nov.13". I am able to over clock to 787.2 MHz (where I could only get 768.0 with OCT). Running good so far; have not had any bad side effects yet (scrolling through Sense tabs; made phone call; started web browser; read e-mail).
Looks to be a WINNIER!!
Here is a token of my appreciation...

I stepped up from 748.8 (where I was OC'ng with OCT) until my divice froze after saving to the setting. My device froze at 806.4 MHz...so I soft reset...and set to 787.2...and all is good!!

will not work on dec 13 energyrom 29005. in the changelog it shows a new gwes. could that b the culprit? also running a 0 pp and using Throttle launcher as my gui. it doesnt work on my tp2 verizon, running maxsense rom. any suggestions ?
WiMoSpeed rocks!
Thanks for all your hard work, iwfratz. You rocked the house with OCT v1.5, and now you follow up with your magnum opus!
This works very well on my Stock VzW 6.5 rom. I was able to step it up a notch or 2 in speed from my OCT v1.5 settings. I am standing pat at 748.8 for now, mainly because I don't want to get too greedy and SOD it all up!

Just tried OCT for the first time a few days ago - saw slight but noticable speed improvement with it. Looking forward to trying this out - looks like it's even better!
Hi iwfratz;
Glad to see you are still working on this!
Did you ever find out why OCT1.5 would not remove properly? I would prefer to remove it "correctly" rather than use a 3rd party tool or go digging around the registry for leftover pieces.
Thanks!
Thanks
Tested On T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 Rhodium at 748.8mhz no defects. Custom energy rom by NRGZ Dec 11 cookies 2.0 sencity 21916 build. As with Oct 1.5 i do have minor issues, but this one works perfect. Thanks

Builds with start menu at the bottom arent as stable as the start menu at the top, in some cases things wont work the same as others with Energy 21916 build (Which I use 21916) which in my case works fine. That could be one reason but there could be more. Try switching builds and see what happens.
awesome
Works great on my stock sprint 6.5.
moved up to 748 from 729 using oct 1.5
everything is buttery smooth and stable so far.
nicely done.
Hey many thanks for the new update. However, I used to switch between WinMo and Android quite often and, as you probably know, you need to turn off overclocking to switch.
So I was wondering if there is a quick way or a shortcut to turn the overclocking off when need be? I've tried making a shortcut to switch to 518mhz before attempting android, but that doesn't work. I'd hate to have to switch back to the old version (oct 1.5) as I really like this new one. But unfortunately, this issue is a deal breaker for me

Ultra is a Special build, and is simply the fastest WinMo ROM there is. If your after ultimate speed, this is the one for you!

------ Got Bad Battery life in android? I can help!! ------
after being given the idea by JW, i have done extensive testing with various radios using current widget. I can confirm that the worst radio you can have for battery life in android, by far, is 2.15.xx and 2.14.xx
With radio 2.10.50.28_2 or 2.08.50.05 i am getting a constant 6/7 mA in standby, even with wifi still active and around 100mA less useage when phone on and being used!
you can download them here:
2.08.50.05 - is here
2.10.50.28_2 - is here
flash them in bootloader, boot to WM (you may need to reset your date and time - flashing radios sometims changes it, then boot to android and enjoy!

Dear Gavin, thank you.

and as mynamesteve said, Christmas has come early
Thanx .... giving it a try ..... Greatly appreciated ......
Just booted up after flash. Amazing speed, everything seems working 101%, probably the best ROM ever made for the HD2. Will test further and report if any issues found.
Still running ancient Radio 2.08.50.08_2, should I update?... to wich one?... (yes, battery life sucks with this one but it always has and I doubt any radio will improve it much...) Does it need to be a Radio ending in xxxxx_2 or it doesnt matter? Any feedback on newer Radios or what's the best one?
Gavin... U know it Simply perfect!
Cheers guys! Keep the feedback coming, and let me know of any issues you may encounter!
