After installing a new exchange mail account, my HD2 had started to prompt for a screen lock password (maybe a policy issue?).
I did apply one and then tried to remove it (did not enter anything in the password fields and then saved). My HD2 repeated bugging me for a password.
I did set it to 'every 24 hours' .
Now, each time I connect to activesync via USB or after each soft reset, the HD2 prompts fro the password.
Is there a way to provent that? or at least to prevent when connecting via USB to activesync?
Thanks

I don't think this is the HD2, it's the exchange server policy, I used to have the same thing and it was hugely anoying, so I got our infrastructure engineer to remove the policy on our exchange. Now I don't need to login each time
Yes, but isn't there a method to inhibit that passcode request?

You need to edit the registry on the handset and make the following change:
Enable/Disable Exchange Security Policy
Registry Key: HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023
To enable it: Set value to 0
To disable it: Set value to 1
After setting this value the option to disable the security is no longer greyed out. Once setting this it does get reset again when connecting to Exchange. There is a utility that can periodically check for the setting and remove it found here:

Hello all,
How do I disable the password lock from my 8125? I initially set it up when I was synching with my laptop for Exchange email, but now I am using xpress mail and don't want the password lock.
I hope you know the password, if yes then follow:
Start -> Settings -> Password -> (it would ask you the password if it is already set) tab the password -> untick the "prompt if device unused".
Let me know, GoodLuck
Sidd
Sidd,
Thank you. The "Prompt if deviced unused" is greyed out. I'm unable to untick this setting.
But is it Greyed-out with the tickmark ON or OFF??
WIth the tickmark "ON". The long short of this story is that I initially synched up my Exchange email using ActiveSynch. Our corporate policy required this password to be setup. We do not have Exchange SP2, so I couldn't get push email, however I ended up using xpress mail instead to get the push functionality. Now I want to get rid of having to input a password on my device.
Also note that "Password" has been renamed to "Lock" in AKU2 as is also pointed out in the article on all name changes at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1276&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
Its seems like either you have to connect/sync with the same email software on which the password had been setup and find the way to remove the password whilst sync,,, OR ,,, the 2nd option is to just Hard Reset the device,,, BUT ,,, Please dont forget to take your backup before Reseting the device. (I can also help you if you want to backup your TXT messages if u want to!)
I am personally using Alpine(XDA-IIi) and I am Hard-Reseting my device every 4-5 months.
Let me know.

I have 6.5 on my HD and was curious if I could use the lockscreen but without a password so I could keep the slider and notifications, I just dont want to enter a password each time thanks!
the only time you have enter the password, is if you setup the pin function on it, otherwise the slide fuction in wm6.5 works as normal

if i do not enter "setting">>"lock" and click the "prompt if phone unused for", the unlock slide to application screen will not appear.
but if choose not to enter the pin, i cannot select the "prompt if phone unused for"
is there a way to activate the unlock slide to application screen but no need to input password everytime??
million thanks.
Forced lock by MS exchange
Yes this is a huge problem. I have the pin lock force on by MS exchange security settings. In WM6.1 this only affecxted when the phone was turned on not everytime it is locked.
This cab (from another thread) removes the lock enforced by Exchange.
Works on my 6.1 and I believe on 6.5 too.
Run it, then go to you Lock settings and the tick box to remove lock is no longer greyed out ...
Alternatively here's the reg setting to edit:
Enable/Disable Exchange Security Policy
Registry Key: HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023
To enable it: Set value to 0
To disable it: Set value to 1
I used similar registry tweak in WM6.1 to get away with the exchange security policy but not working now for the new WM6.5. eg. I can change the inactivity minutes AEFrequencyValue to long enough but still the phone asks for unlock password frequently.

I have the Same Problem.
I'm force to have a Password from the exchange security Policy.
I have set the "Promt if phone unused for " to 30 Minutes, but each time the the phone goes to sleep, the Password is asked again.
Did someone have a solution without disabling Exchange Policy or installing S2U2??
Thanks

If you disable lock in setting > lock, i.e. untick 'Prompt if phone unused for' and just use slider functionality in wm6.5 you don't need to enter PIN any more.
Install attached cab (Smart Lock) and once installed go to settings > system > smart lock and ensure that both 'wm6.5 new lock' and 'suspend lock' are ticked, then soft reset. Now each time you turn screen off device will lock and to unlock it you use the slider
I installed the Stay Unlock cab and I still have to enter my password when my phone reboots. Until now, for day, it did not ask me for a password after 15 mins of inactivity, but today, it is again asking me for passwd every 15 mins if I don't use the phone. I am not even able to ever uncheck the setting for Lock which turns on requiring passwd - that setting is grayed out for me even after installing the cab. Could someone please throw some light on this? Thanks.

in 6.5 the key is a bit different (policies twice):

WM 6.5 Company Policy Activated Device Encryption
I recently set up Exchange e-mail on my WM 6.5 AT&T Tilt 2 (Touch Pro 2), which resulted in activating device encryption. Although I check the email box to remember my password, the device constantly asks me for a password.
I've since removed the Exchange e-mail account (I'll go back to synching rather than direct connect as this is too much of a hassle). However, I can't seem to turn off device encryption.
After reading this forum, I've tried the "Stay Unlocked.cab" and the registry settings (e.g., HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001023 setting) to no avail. The "Prompt if Phone unused for remains grey/unselectable.
One thought: When I checked the 1023 key setting it was 0 so I set it to 1. That had no effect. But reading the post 0 = enable so I tried setting the value to 0 and got a message popup: "Exchange server has just enforced security policy required for Active Sync." So something of Exchange is still running or enabled...how can I turn this off?
WM 6.5 Company Policy Activated Device Encryption
Deleting the Exchange connection in Active Sync did the trick. That was so easy I do feel a bit foolish...
I use Exchange Enterprise Activesync for email, and corporate policy forces the use of a pin.
There is a function to display a 20 digit recovery password in Outlook Web Access that can be used if the device PIN is forgotten.
On my TyTN II (Windows Mobile 6.1) on the lock screen there is a Menu with Reset Password as an option, after selecting this I can specify a new password, then enter the 20 digit recovery password.
However, I can't find a password reset option on the HD2 lock screen. I suspect, from searching on the Internet, that this might be the case with other Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, but can't get at one to check.
Does anybody know how the password reset option can be accessed?
Hey, we are having the same problem with the HD2. There is not a "menu" option on the lock screen.
Anyone figure out how to use this yet?
Same problem :/
Does nobody have an idea?
I just got a HD2 with T-Mobile 2 weeks ago and I want to disable the password login policy from my exchange server. So I searched online and found the following solution:
-------
Enable/Disable Exchange Security Policy
Registry Key: HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023
To enable it: Set value to 0
To disable it: Set value to 1
-------
I edited the registry according to this using TotalCommand, and the password login was disabled for about a day. Then all the sudden, the password login comes back again and the registry value has been set back to 0.
I wonder is something is overwritting the registry value or did I do something wrong?
Thanks for the help!
Password disable
Try searching for zenyee stay unlock, it is free and I have been using it with my TPro 2 and corporate exchange mail password lock for a year. You need to install it and when the lock is sent by your exchange you need to regedit the settings again for the lock code to be turned off. In the future you will get a popup to say exchange has enforced security again but the locking has been disabled.
Works like a charm!!!
Jack
I installed Zenyee Stay Unlock, and I checked the Registry which has a value of 1, but the password is still not disabled. Any idea why?
My request is quite weird I agree, but i have no solution . 1. Is there any app/way to display warning/custom message to anyone using my phone during pattern entry/pin entry etc?
2.What on earth is recovery password for Galaxy note..i tried samsung account password, gmail pwd, company email pwd, network pin, 0000, 000000, 1234 etc..nothing worked..hence data wiped out..

thanks, btw auto restore stuff is checked..but it didnt work
You can always try to unlock it via :
http://www.samsungdive.com/DiveMain.do
It should let you unlock your phone remotly without reset, as you have setup a samsung account.
Do try and post feedback if working or not with unlock pattern.
Good luck
thanks..nope..it doesnt buddy..i tried samsungdive..it asks for recovery password and thats it!!!
mmmmm....
So to setup your exchange account (to be compliant with your company) you had to setup your phone with unlock patern or PIN pattern. It should also had a "device administrator" (try to see in the settings menu, If it is right) to let your company network admin to remotely wipe everythings. So this password recovery might been set by him from the server side. Ask him if he had setup any password for remote wipe or anything else.
Good luck

yeah..you are right..and i tried callin my IT hep desk..and she just says use your email password, which obviously dint work..by the way app suggested by dr.ketan is good..but im a bit late..
Ok,
I know for sur that your IT has the option for PIN unlock pattern enforcement.
You could always ask to setup again a PIN from their side and use it as your unlock "way". And the device administrator password is alsmost for "sur" not your personnal password from your company ( except If your network admin know all your password and set the same for the device administrator wich sound/is quiet strange).
But almost for sur this recovery password is set from your company side from exchange (ask them to go to the server AD and right click your user, and in the exchange/email tab their should be a "remote device" option or such tab in wich all the options, enforcement and password specific for your account and his phone/remote device access)
Goold luck

Ok have a look at and forward this to your IT :
http://www.sysadminlab.net/activesy...tivesync-policies-a-complete-guide-what-works
and also try:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996351.aspx
and from it for password recovery:
Use Outlook Web App to recover a device password
In Outlook Web App, click Options.
Select Phones from the Navigation Pane.
Select the mobile phone from the list.
All mobile phones the user has configured for Exchange ActiveSync are displayed in this list. To determine the correct mobile phone, use the device name and the last synchronization time displayed in the list of devices.
Good luck

I tried outlook weboption..here is wat i have.
no option to view password .
Manage your mobile devices here.
You can remove devices that you are no longer using. If you forget your device password, you can access it here. If you lose your phone or mobile device, you can initiate a remote device wipe to protect your information.
To add a new device, begin a partnership with Microsoft Exchange from the device and it will appear in the list below.
Remove Device from List... | Wipe All Data from Device...
hmm..thts because..
Display Recovery Password (Windows Mobile 6 only): This option allows you to access your device if you've lost or forgotten the password. To unlock your device:
Press Menu, and then select Reset password.
The device will alert you that you must select a new password and supply a recovery password, which you can find in OWA. Once you have accepted, create a new password, and then press OK.
The screen will tell you where to find the recovery password and provide a space to enter it. Enter the recovery password, and then press OK.

Let me tell you this. I also have my corporate email account set in my Note, but instead of using stock email app I am using Touchdown.
That way the corporate does not have any access to you're full mobile, it is restricted to Touchdown.
The regular screen lock is the typical Android function.
