MMS Trouble - Hero, G2 Touch General

As soon as I got my Hero and put my AT&T SIM in, everything worked. But, I noticed when someone sent me MMS, It showed up inside a text message with a "Download" bubble that I had to click on to load the picture/video. Are my APN settings wrong ? Is there a way to just get the message to show up ?
also I've noticed I need to have data (mobile network, NOT wifi) on for it to download the picture/video.

For MMS i think you do need to be on your mobile network yes, wi-fi wont work.
Sounds like you need to go to your MMS settings and check the option to auto-download MMS if you dont want to do it manually each time. You'll know its working becuase when you get an MMS in messages youll be given a small icon preview and clicking on it will open in in gallery.

thank you for responding. I already have "auto retrieve" selected

do I need to have two APNs in my settings (one for Edge, one for MMS) ?

I'm with orange and i have different APNs for the internet and for MMS. I'd check with T-Mobile on that one. Maybe give customer services a call?

(I think he means check with AT&T.)
I had similar issues with Telus, but even when I fixed my APN there was still something wrong on their end, so I had to make a call to them and they fixed it for me.

I have AT&T and only set up 1 APN and I get a "download" button, but it seems like it's already downloaded because the second I click "download" it's already loaded up. When you say "download bubble" do you mean you click on the bubble and then it sits there downloading the picture and it shows up a few seconds later? Or are you looking for a way to automatically show the image within the text convo? Because I don't think that last one is possible.

also
I have been flashing ROMs like crazy, trying to find the best one to suit my needs, and at one point, on some ROM (can't remember which), MMS would just download automatically and show up on the screen. no download button or anything.
Hoping I can find out which one it was, and what the settings were for MMS, and get that working again.
Will post if I find out.
rpimps: could you detail your APN settings here so I could try that ?

for the MMS proxy, should I use
wireless.cingular.com
or
66.209.11.32
also should the port be set to "80" or "8080"
found conflicting answers on these two areas

Issue with Voicemail Notifications and MMS (UK O2)

Hi all
Had my N1 for a little while now and two main issues remain: Voicemail Notifications (lack of) and MMS (not working). I'm on O2.
Voicemail: I've configured my voicemail number (901) which works when I dial voicemail, but I don't get any notifications through of new voicemails.
MMS: I've got two APN's configured (as per previous discussions on modaco/xdadev). The internet one is working (apn type: not set) but the MMS one (apn [email protected]: mms) appears not to work. Basically I get an error if I try and download an MMS message (download of message was unsuccessful). Doesn't work over GSM or Wi-Fi.
Can someone on O2 confirm what works please?
Thanks

Works for me to send - yet to receive (but this worked on my HTC Magic without any problem).
I also get the voicemail notification icon in my notification bar without any problems.
Have you reset the notification method using the voicemail options menu when you dial 901?
No I hadn't (as it's just worked before on previous phones). I've (re)configured it to display the notification icon so i'll test it tomorrow.
The MMS APN settings were close to what I already had but changing to exactly what you put above doesn't work. Same error.
Do you have the ability to screen grab your APN's so I could compare?
Thanks

No screen grab available for me I'm afraid but I cut and pasted the settings from an archived document I've used to setup a G1, Magic and N1 on O2 without issue. I've also posted them on here and other forums for people with mms problems.
Are you on a monthly contract? If not, settings will be different. Have you confirmed with O2 that your account has mms enabled?
I'll get a mate to mms me tomorrow and confirm that there's no problems for me with these settings.
Reduce the size of the MMS you're trying to send to <300kb... the messaging app doesn't resize them and a lot of networks have size limits.

I found this link on the O2 forum for when i got my N1. Iv used it to set up my N1 and my Wifes Magic. MMS works, although i remember reading a problem somewhere that because the O2 network doesnt currently support HTC phones, the image resizing is a bit pants. Recieving images come through at something like 160x160... terrible
Sorry for posting link funny, but all settings are right there!
These are the settings i've tried before, but i'll give it another go, thanks

Thanks, still not working for me. In my list of APN's (two, one internet and the mms one), I have a green dot next to the internet one but nothing next to the mms one. Is that right?
Also what proxy do you have set underneath the APN address? There are two proxy addresses for the APN but you only detailed one.
The only other thing that may be different is that my O2 tarriff is a business one, not residential, but from searching around the settings aren't different.

No Internet

I am on a T-Mobile contract, most connections seem to work okay but my Browser goes nowhere, just keep getting page unavailable, even for Google.co.uk
Any links in twitter or emails just fall down as well...
Can anyone part some advice on the settings to cure this, thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, although I am on O2 in the UK (not T-Mobile like you).
I found that the APN details used when the phone automatically sets up the O2 connection were incorrect.
i recommend you Google the correct settings and then set up a new APN (do not overwrite your existing one), then set the new one to be default and try again.
You might have to kill your browser (or restart your phone) for the changes to take effect.
This link talks you through the procedure but you will need to substitute the correct APN values for TMobile... http://mobileguide.o2.co.uk/devices/device.jsp?deviceId=651&tab=8&step=2&settingId=3203 the web page is for the original Desire but the process is the same for the Desire HD
I had the same problem last week. Apparently TMob's settings sometimes disappear. You need to re add the APN, the following should take you through it (note that all of the <dot>s below need to be replaced with . and <colon slash slash> with ://):

The password is "tm" without the quotes. I don't know who gave you those settings but they're crazy. There's a page on the support site that gives you the settings to use manually. Go to this link, click on the Manual Settings button and you'll see.

Out of interest, do you have the 3G/H symbol and all looks fine, but nothing actually loads? I've had that a bit this week, very annoying.

Perhaps accessing the Google Market is through a particular port that is not supported/allowed by your 3G provider.
For example I was recently in the UK and purchased a prepaid Vodafone SIM. I later found out that sending email through POP was not allowed by Voda.

(TEST) Working for me t-mobile mms picture and data APN setting

I see people having problems sending picture messages via mms so I would like you share what I have done to get mine to work considering the amount of time it took me to figure out. I still can't send or receive pictures with wifi on but texts work ok and internet has been perfect with no drops in 24 hours. I have checked so many forums I am just going to thank everyone and also say I'm sorry if this s a overpost.
HERE IS WHAT I DID:
1. First wifi must be off.
2. Copy your current apn settings so you can replace them if tis doesn't work for you.
3. Delete all apn's
4. New Apn
Fill in exactly like this:
Name: (whatever you wanna call it)
APN: My APN
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (if it asks)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
AUTH TYPE: NONE
APN TYPE: default,mms
5. Save
Now this setting allowed me to keep my mobile network connection without my data dropping once when tested for a week but did not let me send or recieve picture mms messages. I did not find these setting but someone else here on xda posted them and I give them all the credit.
Now make a second new APN and fill it in as follows:
Name: (whatever you want to call it)
APN: epc.t-mobile.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.050
MMS port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type: none
APN TYPE: <not set>
Save
I cant take credit for this setting either because I found it in the forum somewhere but I think this is what I found and its a big questionable think.
Highligh second settings dot or the one with the APN: epc.t-mobile.com
Now, I noticed you have to add them in this order or you wont get the dot to select the second apn listed because there is no "APN type" filled in but do it this way and you should get a dot at apn screen. After adding these two settings, I have had perfect pictures and been able to send and receive them.
If you receive a picture message with wifi on, I also found a fix for that because it will seem your mms connection is frozen. Simply unchecking and rechecking mobile network box did not solve this problem for me. Go to mobile networs-apn-highlight first apn dot (APN: my APN)-wait for data icon to disappear-then re-highlight second dot ( APN: epc.t-mobile.com) and back out. Data should reconnect and start working again.
Please test this out and see if it works for you if your having problms and let me know the outcome. I hope for a least one ataboy! LOL

Can you guys post your data speeds?
No matter what ROM/Android/kernel combo I use, I can't seem to get consistent data speeds above 200-300kb/s in HSDPA. I should be getting 1Mb/s, but I'm not.
I haven't had problems with SMS/MMS, but data drops do happen a couple times a day.

I am using the Cotulla NAND Stock Desire ROM on T-Mobile USA and this is the APN setting that works for me. MMS works as it should with no blurry pictures incoming or outgoing. Just sent a picture to 10 people and they all got it clearly. It works!!!

not every build has "MMS PROTOCOL" what i did to fix the mms issue is
go to default text message app- hit menu- select settings- scroll down to extra settings portion, select custom user-agent and select custom, enter NexusOne and hit ok, Blurry mms will be fixed, i think the problem is with gingerbread on the hd2, the network cant tell what phone you have so it sends out a clear picture but you recieve a blurry low quality, but that worked for me and i get perfect pictures now...

Didn't work for me on MDJ's gingerbread nand rom.
Tried to send a photo and the person only got text no photo.
sent from my nookcolor
same here man...the only rom i have ever been able to send mms pics on is cmyx-topia.
dont know why my pictures dont show up when i get the message that they are sent successfully on cm7
Since this subject was brought up i had a question out of curiosty im running mdj rev 2.3 on s10.3 kernel no problems ive messed around with the apn and the mms setting still recieve pic blurry wondering if any one running this nand came across a solution that worked for them?........
and also the pictures of when people call me that i have saved come out blurry if any one has come up with a solution that works for them please be kind and shine a little light on me ....lol..... thanks......
You have to do both
you have to set apn manually.. this will allow ms but tmo still wont recognise the phone so it compresses the pic..
THEN
set custom to NexusOne
Doing these two things has worked on every rom i have tried (Currently im using MDJ GB 2.0 on one phone..2.3 on another and 2.4 on another) all TMoUS and all phones have perfect MMS sends and sizes.

I did both, but there is no mms protocol on my gingerbread rom.
Is that why it isn't working?

Thanks, this fixed the blurriness, but not the resizing (a 640x640, 222KB image got resized to 320x320 and 18KB when sending to myself).
I'm using MDJ CM7, v2.2
if you use wap.voicestream.com you have to use the proxy and port, but tmobile is almost done phasing out wap.voicestream.com.. so i wouldnt give it much longer to work.. what your supposed to use is epc.tmobile.com, especially since your using the new mms address that works with it.. also, if you want to fix mms resize you edit "mm_property" under /etc/ and change the device under wap profile to nexusone (say it says bravo or desire, change that..)
When I change the name to NexusOne the name doesn't stick it reverts back to Bravo anyone else have this issue?
I'm using LEO “Stock” NAND Android ROM
Where would you find mm_property in a MDJ's CyanogenMod7 rom? Because it isn't in /etc/ since the mms resizing problem is still happens
you have to use a file explorer that lets you mount the system directory as r/w otherwise the changes wont save.. root explorer for example does this..
Do you have a link to "root explorer"?
In Puerto Rico APN

Hey guys/girls..im running LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM by cotulla and cant get the blurry mms fixed. Sent pics are fine its received thats giving me problems. Ive tried the apn settings in the opening post but no good. Sent ones were blurry so I reverted back to my original settings. I want to try the extra settings fix in post#4 but cant find them in my sms settings. Can anyone maybe help me find them or provide another solution if there is one?
Working mms NO blur!
After a full day of jacking with this phone, Im on HTC HD2 T-Mobile US using the nand / Desire android booting from phone not SD, Thanks to a member on here I have got my MMS working!
You have to change your UA from it thinking its a Desire to using Nexusone, Mytouch3g etc. I changed files like everyone said but no luck after reboot, until..
The KEY to all of this is you HAVE to erase your cache :That is, go to settings>SD & Phone storage then do a factory reset. Or via magldr, Hold down power button until bootloader loads, go to services and wipe!.
If you are using CWM, you can do wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik-cache in advanced.
after I did this, Its working great!! .. Good luck!
