I have been using the Touch Dual here in the US for a few months, and love it. I need to switch carriers. Will the Touch Dual work on the Sprint network in the US? What other carriers will work?

T-Mobile and AT&T are the only GSM carriers in the US. I don't know if Boost Mobile is or not.
I just picked a phone up unlocked on ebay and am using it on the AT&T network, only issue i've learnt of just now is AT&T uses a different band for the 3g than the touch dual does so i only recieve edge no 3g since its a different band, from what i've been told tmobile is offering it on the same band.

ATT operates on both 850 and 1900 bands. I had my niki working on it until I recently switched to TMobile. You're SOL if the ATT signal in your area is 850 because the Niki doesn't support it. TMobile doesn't us the 850 band so you would be better switching to them. I get a much stronger signal with them.

Niki doesn't support 1900 for 3g either though, how were you getting 3g if you don't mind me asking, maybe you have one of the Australia Versions? Probably gonna have to take your advice on switching, just on such a good rate plan only paying 24.99 for unlimited internet, hopefully a radio patch can help us soon or maybe AT&T and T-Mobile will share towers i know its been discussed between the companies in the past to help increase coverage (usually leads to merger though so i doubt it'll happen with such large corporations)
Just curious if anyone is using the MT4G on AT&T and how well that's working? I know we can unlock it for use with any carrier but wanted some feedback before I spend the money to get my gf (now using iphone 3gs) an MT4G to use on AT&T.
I already know that 4G won't work. I got her a Captivate for Christmas but she really likes Sense and AT&T's phones are so locked down it's stupid. Can't use custom ringtones, can't sideload apps, etc.
Can anyone help out?
So I'm doing some research and it looks like there's minial wcdma overlap which means spotty 3g coverage? Is that right? I really don't know how to interpret what I'm seeing though so I would be really appreciative for the input of someone more informed than I.

i am using my MT4G on att and its preety good reception wise. I got 15 dollar unlimited data plan. Bec this is tmobil made hardware so i only get edge.
Why not just grab her an att nexus one and flash sense into it? Evil D's ports are really good!

3G won't work either. My question is why on earth would you want to take a MT4G over to the [IMO] worst network of all time?
Only bands 1& 4 right?
Although the captivate supports 2100, at&t only operates 850 & 1900 in the us. Some phones have 2100 for global roaming because that's what most others use.
While at&t does have a larger footprint, I just paid them $180 to get out of my contract and I'm much happier with tmobile. Texts actually send and web pages actually load.

Let me be super clear about this... 3G WILL NOT WORK on AT&T. The MT4G just doesn't have the right radio. However, the Vibrant (surprisingly) does have the 850 band on its 3G radio, and does sort of work for AT&T.
If you want an Android phone on AT&T, I recommend buying something unlocked from Canada. Rogers and Bell both share AT&T's 3G bands (850 & 1900), and have a better selection than AT&T itself.

However, "EDGE" describes a family of service classes, not a single speed. Depending on your location and the service speeds there, EDGE may in fact be qualified to be called 3G according to the ITU (the international body that certifies this nomenclature).
As the radio in this phone most certainly does support EDGE, whether or not you can get 3G speeds on AT&T will depend on your location. For most of us this will still be a "no," but if the OP is in one of the special markets (LA, NYC, ATL) you can see it. Since OP is in Oakland, I figured he might get lucky.
I swap cards a bit on mine (one SIMM or work, and one for personal use) and have been in areas where the EDGE network was nearly as fast as the supposed 4G on the other card.
I should probably start using the that bandwith meter app and record my results. It could be interesting.

EDGE is not generally considered a 3G technology, although it is a significant improvement over GPRS, and it offers speeds approaching true 3G speeds.
Calling EDGE "3G" is somewhat like T-Mobile calling HSPA+ "4G"; it's playing a little fast and loose with the definitions. I do agree that in ideal circumstances, EDGE speeds can be pretty good, but it really falters when it comes to streaming media or any other data-intensive task.

I picked up an SGSII from Expansys and it runs no problem on Fido up in Canada. I'm taking a trip down to the US next month and was wondering which of the big carriers in the states would run the SGSII. I figure AT&T would, but as the phone is quad-band, I'm not 100% sure if there are other national carriers that would do the trick.

Of the major US carriers, it will work on ATT and T-Mobile. It will only get 3g on AT&T as the SGS2 doesn't support TMO's 3g bands.
Hmm. I'm a little confused. The wikipedia page for T-Mobile says that their 3G bands are 2100MHz and 1700MHz. The SGSII apparently has 2100MHz as one of the accepted frequencies (again according to wiki). How come 3G won't work on T-Mobile?
Presumably, the phone won't work on Verizon because, while the frequencies match, Verizon is running on CDMA and the SGSII only supports GSM. Right?

T-Mo US needs 1700 and 2100, not just 2100. Att uses 850 or 1900. 3G won't work on T-Mo
No matter what it says on paper, there's a couple of people here that have tried the phone on T-Mobile U.S and get EDGE speed downloads.

So as far as my research goes there are 2 options for the GS3 on t-mobile.
One is buy the international version and wait for t-mobile to upgrade their network which they say will be out by the "end of the year."
The second is pick up a gs3 from WIND Mobile, Mobilicity or Videotron (Canadian carriers that use the same frequencies as T-Mobile).
Is the second option even viable or should I just get the international version? To put things in perspective of why I want to upgrade now, my g2x was stolen a few months ago and I've been suffering with my 8900 Blackberry....a phone with 2G speeds and the processing power of a rock and I just cannot take this any more.
One question is the chip the North American version will get, which is probably the S4 Krait, it has very good performance and probably more battery efficient. Sound quality should be excellent like the HTC One S. Not to mention LTE support too, which T-Mobile is unveiling next year.
With that said, I always go for the international version, its released first for one and generally has more developers. I buy my phones at full price and int' version generally has better resale values. I don't think you have a lot of choice if you are in contract.
I can tolerate the 2G until 1900mhz band works with T-Mobile, I only need data for Google Maps, I get on WiFi otherwise.
Funny. I broke my N1 and am stuck with a BB curve 3600. It's been a month or so now....and I believe I've been punished long enough!
I wouldn't be able to tolerate the 2G speeds. So I will be getting it through mobile when they release release it. Having carrier warranty is a big plus for me too.

whats 40 bucks when you have the top phone working on your network ahead of everyone else right?

Why won't they work?
I read the International Version can run on either T-Mobile (USA) or AT&T network, since the International Version of the S3 uses the same spectrum. It won't be possible to use LTE, but HSPA+ is possible... so I read.
Don't know if you specifically meant the Canadian version, because the International SG3 uses "850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 mhz", for use with "3g (hspa＋ 21mbps)" (= T-Mobile).
Can you provide a few more details on why it's not supposed to work, as you say ??

Cause it doesn't list 1700mhz, which tmobile needs for the down link.

The 1700 mhz band is not necessarily needed. I just checked some other sources, and they say it's only needed for LTE - which T-Mobile won't have until some time in 2013 anyway. HSPA+ is good enough for speedy downloads on the 1900 mhz band.

Exactly true for me. On verizon tho.
I can deal with edge speeds as WiFi is everywhere, plus T-Mo is refarming their spectrum - the Int'l Version should be compatible with 4G by Q4
Looking at the Specs for the 4 versions and if you live in North America and use GSM the T889 seems to be your best choice. You get all North American HSPA bands and DC-HSPA 42Mbps not just HSPA 21Mbps as well as North American 700/1700 LTE.
Looking at the AT&T variant i317 seems we are getting the shaft. You get quad band HSPA only and 2 extra LTE bands you'd never use unless you travel a lot off the continent. My how quickly AT&T put the failed merger behind them.
There are 4 versions of Note:
1. International (+LTE): SGH-7100 / SGH -7105
2. SGH-i317 : ATT+(Rogers+Bell + Telus): HSPA 850/900/1900/2100, LTE: 700/850/1700/1900
3. SCH-i605 : CDMA + LTE 700
4. SGH-T889 : T-Mobile+Mobilicity+Wind : HSPA: 850/900/1700/1900/2100, LTE: 700, 1700
So why does T-Mobile's get DC-HSPA and not the other 2 GSM variants?
So do you know how to unlock the sim slot on this. i use simple mobile and straight talk but I want the t-mobile version because it has hspa+42 and the others dont which I find to be rather stupid. Can't help you there friend, I'm in Canada. I know T-Mobile used to be pretty good about unlocking devices bought outright but not sure if policies changed. A T-Mobile member should be able to answer that question though.
I've been out of the phone game for awhile, so i'm a little confused. I'm currently on ATT, and as a matter of course, I would pick up there's, but if it doesn't have LTE in the states (I have ATT LTE in my area), then that's just one more reason to switch to T-mobile.
I'm already considering switching due to the cheaper plan and the ability to pick up the phone on a payment plan, which is VERY attractive to me and my current financial situation.
So,, Explain this to me like i'm five.. what exactly is the problem with the ATT Note 2?
nothing if you have AT&T. The t-mobile one only has an advantage if you use it as an unlocked device on pre-paid carriers like straight talk or simple mobile or solavei. The main difference is that if you use a t-mobile prepaid carrier like simple mobile and get the international note 2 it will be edge/hspa+21 onlyin refarmed, if you get ATT it is edge only unless you live in a 1900 re farmed market then it will only do hsap+21, if you get the t-mobile variant it is hspa+42 and has not active lte for when and if prepaid carriers get access to t-mobile lte when it comes online next year. The other thing is the t-mobile variant is a penta band phone which means it will run at full hspa+ data speed on any carrier. ATT or t-mo.

Ah, so since I have ATT in a LTE area (Phoenix), i'll get LTE (42?) on my phone, and no issues unless I decide I want to switch to a pre-paid carrier? But if I did get the T-mobile version of the phone, I could switch it around and I have more options as far as speed goes. Sound approximately correct?
What if I bought the phone from T-mo and switched it to AT&T? Is that even possible and would it have any pros or cons? (Buying full-price phone from T-mobile on their payment plan, using it on AT&T until my contract was up in Feb, then switching the phone to T-mobile with the cheaper plan?

It has LTE, but the HSPA bands are limited to 21mbps vs the 42 mbps HSPA of the T-Mobile variant (which works with AT&T's network on both LTE and HSPA).
Essentially, a faster HSPA radio, nothing else changes
Does anyone know if there will be modem problems like the Att i717 had when switching to tmobile? We waited a long time for a decent working modem which was a hacked blaze modem that worked the best with limited upload speeds, but great download speeds.
Or will the tmobile variant work like the galaxy nexus pentaband on Att or tmobile OOB? I'm tempted to get the tmobile, but will wait for the price to drop.
Torn due to accessories that now are not compatible with the new noteII.

I don't get LTE even though the device specs show LTE.
I tried different APNs but it always goes back to the default one on my micro sim.
Any ideas on how to get LTE are welcome!

I don't know if anyone cares, but I purchased the international version of the Galaxy Note II. I currently am using it on AT&T network and I maintain hspa+ the entire time. I work in Dallas, Texas but live 45 miles away, and I have awesome coverage all the time. The reason I post this is because all of you wanting LTE, should know more facts about it. LTE is nice, but it's a battery hog. Granted 4G speeds are nice, but in practicality, HSPA+ is obviously not as fast, but it's pretty danged fast and my battery life is pretty darned good as well.
If you are going to shell out the money for the phone itself, buy the International version. You can get them for around $660 dollars, and the price is dropping every day. Don't spend the same amount on a Carrier branded, bloatware infested phone. Just buy the unbranded one and you will be quite happy, I guarantee it.

Maybe have to wait on the AT&T Note II ROM dump. Then flash it to T-Mobile Note II.

all you have to do is wait like maybe a week or four days, for their system to recognize that you are using the note 2 on their system. then you call them and tell them that you will be going out of the country and they will ask you for your IMEI number and your email. and you will get your unlock code the next day, hope this help you.

You can try this:
1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring. It won't come all the way out as it's blocked by the battery. This seems fine - I didn't bother trying to force it out as I didn't want to break anything...
2) Once you see the message that the SIM card is removed, go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
3) You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic". If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G). If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G) and you will have lte too
4) Press the SIM card back into place until it clicks. For whatever reason the phone will not recognize it until you reboot. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
Let me know if this works!
So let's clear all of this up. Will the T-Mobile edition work on T-Mobile AND at&t (hspa+) StraightTalk here in the States? Just seemed a bit confusing and that is what I know is my big question. All help is appreciated.

It's my understanding that the T-Mo Note 2 runs on T-Mo's HSPA+42 network while the international runs on ATT's HSPA+21 network but only on T-Mo's 2G network. T-Mo is currently refarming areas of the country so that the international Note 2 will pick up T-Mo's HSPA+ network. I assume they mean T-Mo's HSPA+42 network.
EDIT: This was from a chat session with a T-Mo rep:
Me: So once the 1900Mhz refarming is complete, does that mean I'd have access to your HSPA+42 speeds?
Mary G: Yes, once the process has been complete, you will have the best service about the calls and most especially the data.
Now, we all know how misinformed reps can be but from what I've been reading, this seems to be legit. So my plan is to get the international Note 2. I get HSPA+21 now, an option for T-Mo HSPA+42 later as I know for a fact my area is currently being refarmed, more developer support, and no bloatware.
If I'm wrong about any of this, please someone let me know.
