Tytn white screen - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
my tytn suffers from white screen.
it was on repair under waranty two times, last time that thay returnet my phone i checked it and put it on a shelf. it was there for a year or so.
I needed it so i power it up and guess, it is white screen again !!!!
Now i took it apart and i found that service under waranty putted some foam on dpad chip
I tryied : resolder chip, resolder dpad conector, main connector and cleaned everything and put it together and always i get same result :
firt time power on screen is working, and it stays working for as long it takes. After power off and power on screen is white and only thing that helps is colding phone in freezer, and than screen comes on power on and it stays.
hope that these can help someone to better understand white screen isuse and hopefully i can get some help what could it be ?
thank you

SOS - Hermes works fine just that there is NO screen!

Really need help here,
My hermes suddenly decided that visuals are no longer needed.
That means the screens stays off all the time (yes even in bootloader mode).
It works, receive calls and flashes roms but in no situation can I see anything on the screen (pitch black screen).
I've got no warranty so I took it apart and checked each cable and connector - no issues were seen. I tried changing SPL-s, RUU, Roms all worked but left my tytn with that black screen.
Did anyone see this happen or has any advice?
This sucks big time :-(
No one? Oh man, I guess it's dead then :-(
Last bump before giving up and throwing it away - please?
send it to me if your gonna throw it away : - 0
I've given up on mine as well. It has white screen though. Where do I dump this thing?
If it is out of warrenty, I would take it apart as is sounds like the hardware, check the connections to the LCD. Does the backlight still work, or if you put it in strong sunlight, can you see the LCD working?
My Hermes had a white screen also. I found that if I squeeze the bottom right hand corner whilst resetting it would sometimes work. It seems there is a chip on the switch board that needs the right ammount of pressure on it. I think it was a design flaw as the herm200 and 300 are different. If applying pressure works and you are confident enough take the hermes apart and put a couple of small pieces of plastic or paper between the front buttons and the small square chip on the switch board. This worked for me.
The service guide is available if you google. Let me know if you need more info.
As for the black screen that sounds more serious sorry not seen that one.
what are you guys willing to sell your pdas for? Mine fell in a puddle and i need one for parts. The white screen might be fixable the first couple of times but then it dies off for good, the black screen i've never heard of.
So if you want to sell for a reasonably cheap price let me know, i can buy a new keypad online for $50. So around there would be nice!

I just tested this on mine and actually got some results.
mines the opposite though, it will NOT work with any pressure. I left all the screws loose for that board under the buttons, and left the LCD assemble screws out on that end and it works, But if I press the keys it whites out again and won't come back until I repeat the dis-assemble/re-assemble
I had a similar problem but this was after someone dropped mine on the floor. The screen would just be white screen, while everything worked. If I pressed the bottom right of the phone it would sometimes come on and stay on for a little while but would eventually always go to white screen.
I did manage to use the phone but had use a program called Net Control which allowed me to control the phone over WIFI with the phone screen shown on the PC. Got the phone replaced in the end by the people who dropped it.
i got the flex cable and my phone still has the white screen problem....wtf///

Cracked LCD or whitesreen?

I have read a few posts about the white screen issue and some seem to pertain to my problem and others don't. My screen is white 100% of the time from power on to power off. So I can't seen anything when it first boots or comes out of standby mode or any thing else. The only way that I can get the screen to be anything but white, is to hold it in my left hand with the keyboard slider bottom left corner of the phone pushed up against the base of my thumb muscle and my other fingers pushing on the bottom right corner or the phone on the screen slider. Sometimes if I hit it in the bottom right corner then squeeze it I can get it to work without tiring myself out from squeezing after 1 minute.
Seems to be a pressure and angle thing i think. The phone has been dropped on more than one occasion. Ten tops. Sometimes when I squeeze it i get lines from left to right, then fade to white.
If I put the phone on 65-90 degree angle from my eyes I can see a little black mark at the top of the screen under the C of HTC. That is what had me thinking that it was a cracked LCD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Phone is still under warranty, but would rather not be without it for the 6 -8 weeks I was told it would take, only to find out it was a cracked lcd and they won't fix it.
I believe you have to open it. Try to connect every single connection again.
I Had This
I had this problem when i dropped my Vario 2 the screen cracked and was all white, when i went on ebay and bought a new screen I took the vario 2 apart and replaced the screen BUT the ribon connector that plugs into the board was not quite in so when i re-assembled it i just got power and white screen.
There are a couple of little lugs on the ribon cable and i though that once they were butted up to the connector on the board that it was in properly. BUT the lugs actually needed to be pushed that little bit further and slide under part of the connector. BANG it worked fine.

Either send back and keep warranty or try the several solutions posted. I myself am pretty sure I found the correct solution and I posted it in the appropriate thread.
Thanks guys, I think I'm going to try my luck with sending it in. Will probably add a link to the main whitesrceen thread so hopefully I get no hassles. Will post back When I get it back.
I had a similar problem and voided my warranty because I don't have a spare device... anyway, here is where I found my solution.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
Good Luck... My phone is still working fine....

Screen stopped working, only backlight after trying to fix vibrate

So I tried to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376035
My screw was loose indeed. In fact is was so loose it fell out before I had opened it completely.
I tightened the screw, closed the cover, turned it on, and... nothing. Only the backlight of the screen, but the screen stays completely BLACK. Nothing. (I know the phone is working though, because if I hold the off button I'll hear the "boink" sound)
I tried this:
- With and without SIM card.
- With and without tightening the screw.
- With and without the power cord.
Mind you I have NEVER had this problem before.
What is going on here? Did I **** something up badly while opening this phone? If I did I am going to be super sad, so please, help me!
Anyone?
I basically have the same fault mate. My vibrator lock screw was loose and it made the phone rattle.
I opened it up and probably either tightened the screw up too much and killed something on the mainboard or 'pinched' the lcd flex ribbon ( rusty gold coloured thing- it plugs into the small white ribbon connector on the MB ) with the opening tool.
Anyway - the phone could take calls , it seems to be working ,although I have no display , and the keypad buttons are all lit up very brightly , what scuppered me was with the constant case opening I eventually managed to break the power microswitch off the MB and I now have to use the reset button to power the phone on.
I don't want to waste money buying a new lcd screen for a phone which might be terminally damaged due to a mainboard fault , anyone narrow these faults down more ?.
shameless bump.
BUMP !!
Im just fixing my LCD on my P3600 and have it in bits,
is the display connector definitely pushed all the way in?
Yeah m8 - AFAIK it is all the way in , I am certain that it is the flex ribbon connector that is broken.
For anyone else interested in this or that has the same problem - there is a program called ' my mobiler ' which can be found in the forum somewhere , using it will tell you all you need to know ;
i.e = if it is the phone itself that's broken , or it's a damaged display.

White screen all the time. What should I buy?

Hello,
for first I've already read some topic covering the white screen problem. I have the white screen every time on my Hermes since booted. Going into bootloader also shows white screen. I don't see any signs of misalignment.
I've already taken apart my Hermes and reconnected all connectors I've seen, including D-Pad connector, tightening and loosening the screws by it. I see there's nothing else I can fix without replacing any parts (or am I wrong?) What should I buy? Do you think that the actual screen may be faulty? Or maybe the flex is damaged and I should buy it? (well I think that some chip is connected to flex so I don't know if it can be replaced anyway). My main question is: if the screen is all white, is it possible that the actual screen be faulty?
It could be a number of things which could amount to $$$$ by throwing parts at the phone - may be cheaper to just buy another. Before the completely all white screen did you have occasional white screens with increasing frequency? First try some of the fixes for correcting whitescreens - pressure on the dpad - etc. If you still get nothing the chip could have come loose - but who knows?!!!! Need some more information - history etc.
Unfortunately don't know the history... bought cheap off ebay hoping it can be easily fixed already ordered the screen, if no luck, will send as spares/repair in my country - should earn something anyway.
i have a fault with mine some times (well a lot now) when i open it or close it all the way i get a funny fuzzing on the screen and some times it just ends up going black, move it back and forth a bit and the screen collour is inverted. i have to press the power button twice once for off then back on and it stays normal collours till u move the screen again. is this called white screen?
Not really - yours should be an easy fix. Seems like the flex cable is either loose or cracked slightly. It only occurs when you slide the keyboard out right? Any problems with the front keypad - with the unit closed?

please help! hermes white screen (not normal)

my htc hermes (herm100) does the occasional white screen here and there, but i dropped it (like a foot away from the floor) and it almost always white screens, the phone will come on, the ATT logo (like the bios thing) will load up and everything, but as soon as its about to play the 3g animation, the screen fades to white, but everything works, the 3g sound plays, the screen responds to touch, etc. the screen also displays perfectly when i start to do a hard reset, the screen comes up to press r and all that, then space to boot, then the screen goes white again. i've taken the phone apart, checked everything out, made sure the ribbon cables and such were set properly, everything. If this helps, my camera had stopped working the night before...when i would click the camera button or started it from programs, it would say somethin along the lines of "the camera could not be started. initialization of camera failed" and i was actually gunna be asking about that right now til it uber white screened. Any help is appreciated.
White screen
Hi i'm also having the same problem with my hermes 300, Dropped off the back of the bed onto skirting board, about 1 1/2 feet. Started to white screen soon after this. Like you say when you format it the screen is fine until it gets past the first boot screen then slowly fades to white. Have heard stories about the ribbon cable to the navigation on the front. any help apreciated
Update: Took Hermes apart nad reseated the d-pad ribbon, everything seems ok. Thanks to Mike channon for the Disassembly manuals. Hope this helps other people.
