Market Update Notifications - Nexus One General

are not coming through all the time. Sometime I get notified of updates but most of the time I have to go Downloads and check for updated apps.
Not sure if something breaking it or if it's a known glitch. I can only find some old threads about the subject (prior to 2.0) so I'm wondering if anyone experiencing the same issue.
My N1 is still stock and not rooted or anything.

I've noticed this too, i usually have like 2+ updates when i check in downloads but i never get notifications. I'm new to android so i thought that was normal or something

I take it you've set it (Market App) to notify you when there are new updates?
I have but the notifications are not coming through when there are updates.

Welcome to Google's Android Market. Sometimes you get 'em, most times you don't. Been that way since day 1.

Thanks for letting us know.

How will we know if apps are updated?

I love how the iPhone does it it... by showing a number next to the application updates icon showing you how many and which apps can be updated. A simple click or two and your app is fully updated.
Will Android be able to do something similar? I don't see anything currently on notifying us of updates in the OS. There is a downloaded section in the android store that shows which apps you have downloaded and installed. I guess in here it could say "Update Avalble" next to an app that has been updated?
I really hope this feature is already there or will be added ASAP. There's going to be a tone of software hitting the store soon and most devs will probably release updates every 1-2 weeks. Right now, I don't think it's even possible to see what version of some apps you have installed.
So far what I encounter is that once I open and application and an update is available it asks if I want to download the new version. No so sure about the OTA build update...
Actually, it's quite annoying, for the apps I've had that are updated the update box pops up every minute or so until I hit update. This is only for marketplace apps.
My point is, don't worry. If you have an app that needs an update you're gonna know.
That's good news. I'm glad they thought of this. It's one of the things I disliked about WM. I'd have to open each app and check the version number, and then visit the devs website to see if there's a newer version available. I really like that I can now spend more time working (or playing) and less time checking on things like the latest updates.
That would be pretty annoying to have it pop up every minute or so... hopefully they'll fix that in one of the next updates. But if it were me I'd just update it right away so it wouldn't effect me.
What apps do you guys have giving you update notifications?
I had the following apps for the past 2 days that had updates but Android never notified me of the new updates:
QuickPedia
ShopSavvy
FatSecret
I had to visit the marketplace and scan for apps be newest release. If I clicked on one of my installed apps and there was a newer release it would have an "Install" link instead of the normal "Open" link.

Market update

Did anyone else notice their market automatically update? I just went on & there were some noticeable changes.
For one, you can now automatically update apps as well as update all with the click of a button. If you click on an app, there is now a related tab.
I knew a couple of those features would come with froyo but I thought the related tab was gingerbread exclusive.

As soon as I burned my phone with DK28 last Friday I noticed these changes as well. Much nicer now IMHO.
I flashed to DK28 a few days ago saw the Market updates for 2.2.1. Then I decided to flash back via ODIN (which after learning how to use is my new best friend) to DI18 and I had the regular ole' 2.1 Market. The next day I have the new and improved Market with the Allow Automatic Updates and Related tab. At first I though I did something wrong. But after further research I found out that a lot of phones are getting this update. www.coolsmartphone.com where I found the article and was relieved.
A while ago, I got a notification for an updated market app, so I installed it. It had comments separated, and an auto-update feature, and it worked fine, for a while. It started getting stuck on the download, so I removed the update. I liked it because of the auto-update. I had to hard-reset a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I'd get the notification again, but it didn't happen, then all of the sudden, the new market app is there, and it has the related tab. I was surprised because it didn't ask me to install it, it was just there.
Did anyone else get a notification to install the newest one, or was it just magically pushed to our phones? I like the new market app, but it disturbs me that it was there without my approval.
I'm on a rooted stock DI18 btw.
It was just there for me. No notification of any kind. I'm on Stock Di-18 never been rooted.

Same here, I went to the market to update my apps and it was there already.

We also have a market widget like the 2.2 widget for us 2.1 users....although it doesnt work properly because it doesnt show any info like the froyo version does.

[Q] Problems updating apps

I keep having trouble updating apps. For instance now it tells me that there are 3 apps that need updating. I tell it to update, it downloads the update then it says "attention required. tap here".
I tap and it says "can't play or download. There's a problem with the license".
These are just free apps and not large and I'm not letting it lock mid update or anything like that. I've worked around it by deleting the apps reinstalling, but it keeps happening the next time it needs to update.
Any ideas?
I had a problem like this, and it's a really poor design of this page; Where it says 'attention required' on the download page, hold down and a context menu will appear with 'retry' and 'cancel'
I have retried over and over and it just never completes. I deleted the update and I restarted the phone and still the same thing.
Getting a bit annoying
Still can't update any apps. Am I the only one?
Are they trial versions? Seems to be an issue where an update is pushed out for the paid version that doesn't apply to the trial, and the update doesn't go through but you still get notified about it. That's what I've heard (secondhand) from MS support, anyway.
Thanks for the reply. I deleted just about all the apps and it looks like updates started working again. Of course when I deleted the apps it wouldn't let me reinstall apps again, even one's I've paid for. This seems to have settled down after some time and a couple phone reboots.
All in all the whole marketplace and updating thing seems like a real mess from what I have seen, even when things are working right.
I hope we get some updates sometime soon.
Thanks again

willp2, did the apps reinstall when you synced your phone or did you have go to marketplace to redownload them? I'm having the same problem. Except one of the apps is one I purchased but never got to download because of the error.
I had to re-download them. It wouldn't let me at first, but after rebooting the phone I was able to redownload from the phone. I was never able to reinstall from the Zune desktop.

PSA: Updating BlackBerry apps on a Priv

I've seen some people are getting their own Priv's, so I thought I would remind people that there's an odd bug making the Blackberry apps not show up under my apps in the Play Store. You have to go to the app pages manually and update from there, as there will be no notification. Perhaps @thurask can answer if the apps start to auto update?
I've seen this kind of thing on other Android devices. Seems like stock apps don't register for updates until you update them at least once, and then you get on-going update notifications. At least, that's been my experience with other devices. Once my Priv arrives, I'll be sure to add my experiences with it. Hopefully tonight! It's marked as shipped through Rogers' Reservation System since last night, so I'm hoping tonight... Really can't stand my LG F3Q anymore =\

Same here.
Just reboot your device after first setup. Then go into playstore and update all of your apps.

What app to freeze to stop getting update notifications

I'm not interested in going through the process of restoring my phone every month so I can flash these incremental updates. I know on my older Androids that there was an app/program I could freeze with TiBu that would stop the phone from checking for updates. Can anyone tell me which app that is on our Nexus 6P?
I don't mind going through the steps for a real update, I just want to make the decision myself on when that's required.

I killed updates from the play store and that killed the ongoing notification of the update. Still downloaded it automatically but at least I don't have to see it.
Thanks, but I am hoping for something a bit more surgical than that. I have Play Store set to notify me of updates, but not install them automatically. I'd hate to turn it off completely.
Same research
I was doing the same research several time ago, but without luck, I already tested cleaning data from PLAY SERVICES, and disable the automatic aupdates from PLAYSTORE, no onde of them works in they way you expected too, after some reboots it comes back again, I just tried to disable the UPDATE SERVICE and worked but not after rebooting which keeps the problem, I will let you know if I find something.

I tried shutting off notifications from Google Framework Services, as suggested in another thread, but I still get the update message upon reboot. I also froze DMService, but that didn't work either.
