Problems running Esmertec on Samsung OmniaPro B7610 - Omnia II General

Dear community,
thank you so much for this huge forum and your many efforts to help new smartphone users like me in getting used to Windows Mobile.
Please let me first give some info about my device:
-Samsung OmniaPro B7610
-Windows Mobile 6.1
-afaik, there is no branding on the phone
Since I do not have an internet flatrate in my mobile contract, I was looking for a complete-no-cost navigation software for my phone. Thus I found We-Travel.
When I wanted to install We-Travel, my Java KVM (Aplix Jblend 20090908a) told me that there is a problem with the authentification of the certificate (Note: It did not say that the certificate is expired!).
So, after several forum threats, I came to the conclusion that my KVM was causing the trouble. I replaced it by a late Esmertec version - the installation of We-Travel worked without any problems. However, I could not use the software, since my display does not show me information about what is currently running when I start We-Travel. The installation of We-Travel itself was strange, as well. The phone asked me several times to choose "Yes" or "No", but the display did not show for what to choose.
Now that I have installed Esmertec, the KVM does not tell me any info about the current installed KVM-version. I tried Jbed 20090506.2.1 ,20090416.5.1 and 20090217.5.1.
For better understanding, I made two screenshots.
This is the home-screen when I open Esmertec:
(I am not allowed to post outside links...)
Here you can see the "About-screen" where normally version-infos are displayed:
(I am not allowed to post outside links...)
As you can see, there is no input there, no matter which of the 3 versions I install on the phone.
Esmertec is also not shown at "installed programms", and I cannot reinstall Aplic Jblend since I do not have the .cab on my phone and cannot find a late version to download.
I tried several soft-resets before and after the isntallation of Esmertec - did not solve anything.
Do you have any idea what to do?
There are not many alternatives to Esmertec - I would love to use this KVM...
Thank you so much for reading until here - maybe someone has an idea?
Warm regards
PGS17

Medical Apps....still waiting

Hi Guys,
This post is a little overdue in that I lost my password to login here, but have been reading the forum religiously daily.
Anyways, after waiting and waiting, I still feel like the fool with the new device that can't run one single Medical app.
I'm talking about Skyscape and the like.
None of the WM2003 Apps are upward compatible.
Styletap doesn't install the .pdbs of my older Apps.
Essentially I saw one post earlier touting Epocrates may work, but thats just one app.
So at times, I miss my 6315 Ipaq for this functionality, but am stalling on downgrading to using 2 PDAs for this purpose.
Anyone care to share misery some company on this topic,
OR
have any insight into a possible solution?
Thanks
hi
though some of the apps dont run (not wm5 compatible) but i have 4 products off skyscape that work perfectly... these are 5mcc 2006, oxford handbook of emergency medicine, oxford handbook of acute medicine , and ferri clinical advisor...
ive also tried the following that work on universal:
1)abc's lab application
2)cecil
3)harrison
4)washington manual 31
5)davis drugs

What is your definition of "it works"? Any slow downs? How about when switching from lanscape to portrait or vice versa? Any problems with screen refreshing on the Universal?
I guess those guys didnt email anyone.
I just checked sometime back and 90% of their products are NOW WM5 compatible. Go and get them
im very interested in medical apps for my pda, please can you guys let me know how they run on the exec. I had some skyscape apps on my ipaq 4150 and it took quite a while to load, im thinkin it would take even longer on the exec.
They are fast and support both landscape and portrait mode. Pretty good in my opinions.
How come skyscape site only list their programs to be compatible with Pocket PC 2003 and not Windows Mobile 5? This is what maybe causing hesitation on our part, at least now we know skyscape programs work even though they did not specify full Windows Mobile 5 support.
Frank Shanns Drug Doses works in both landscape and portrait.
www.drugdoses.net
I think maybe skyscape has updated their site recently, since it seems they are now very specific about which apps are WM5 compatible.
Universaldoc, could you say which apps you have working well on your device?
Hi Shiva,
Most of them are working. When you click on the title, it will show you a list of device requirements in which it will now state WM 5 also. 99% of the apps have been upgraded to WM 5 now.
I mainly use 5mcc and Stedmans They both work very well.
skyscape success
I took the plunge and installed 5 min CC, DrDrugs, and the Medical Letter Drug interactions programs. All seem to work just fine.
One thing that might be disconcerting to some is that in the install routine, if you are installing to storage card, you get a message that install was NOT successful. But you just find the cab files that were successfully copied over, run them, and no problem.
Now my external brain is healthier again.
In Australia
If anyone is in Australia and use MIMS (the local pharmacy information)- then you're out of luck.
Any iSilo stuff works as iSilo itself works
Why would anyone need iSilo when vast databases like Skyscape are available?
Anyone tried ER Suite by Medical Wizards yet?
http://www.medicalwizards.com/client/productdesc.aspx?productid=47
Update: I tried their apps 4 months ago. Their apps worked on the Universal, but it is not WM5 compatible yet. I would not recommend their software for the Universal at the moment.
DrugDoses has been updated
Hi!
Just to let you know that DrugDoses, a PDA version of Frank Shann's Drug Database, has just been updated. I really like its new features, such as the medical formulas and scores (Apgar, Glasgow Coma Scale, QTc, FeNa, etc).

HELP please: Hacking a WORKING, NEW JBlend version?

The new versions of JBlend, a brand new (OEM) Midlet manager are pretty great; for example, they support 3D.
Currently, there's only one usable version of this midlet manager, which is pretty old (and, therefore, it doesn't, for example, support 3D) and is far from being flawless - for example, it doesn't at all allow for net access.
Very few Windows Mobile devices come with this Midlet manager; for example, the Samsung Blackjack and the Japan-only Sharp Zero 3.
A fellow Blackjack user, moneytoo, extracted the files of his Blackjack. So far, we haven't managed to make it work (I've tried overwriting the old, installed Jblend version).
Does anyone want to look into the problem? See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326354 - it has all the files you'll need.
A shameless bump
Another bump
what about related registry keys?
i think there may be some missing registry keys.
could someone extract all keys related with, and post it?
thanks

WARNING! (Schap's) Jbed Midlet Manager no longer works!

Esmertec Jbed (as of version 20070622.2.1), prolly the best Midlet manager today (if you don't take the lack of 3D, direct links and proxies into account, in which Tao 11.1.x is still better), has stopped working yesterday (see for example the last few posts at http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=110939&page=3 for other user reports).
The reason for this is that it simply timed out in September - yeah, it was timebombed.
Does anyone have a Windows Mobile device sporting a newer, (still) working version? Or, does anyone want to cure the problem in some other way?
Im suprised no one has commented on this yet. For me, Opera 4 is THE way to browse the internet on a pocket pc, and no midlet manager did it better than Jbed mainly because it worked in fullscreen mode. While Tao's manager is okay, especially since the new beta 2 allows for the removal of the top and bottom red bards (pressing **), this is is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I too just ran into this problem!

BTW, speaking of Opera Mini 4 beta 2, did you read my related review at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326368 ?
I've sent the Esmertec folks a mail asking whether they would make their Midlet manager purchasable.
Hope they DO consider this so that we won't have to rely on "hacking" it off other ROM's.
it is true in my wizard when i want to open the esmerc app it closes why for me that is better than java mannager of risidoro
Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 works now ok on Tao Intent Midlet Manager (not crashing it as Beta 1 did), so not a big problem for me...

I'm using the Esmertec Java , Joedek Build: 20070425.1.1 with no problem

Esmertec Jeodek is vastly different from Esmertec Jbed. The latter is generally MUCH better. See the preview of my Midlet Bible if interested.

Jbed offers, among other things, seamless full screen (unlike Tao Intent); this is why it'd be great to make it work / being able to legally purchase it.

BTW, as far as Tao Intent is concerned, check out the above-linked Opera Mini 4 thread; I've posted a lengthy excerpt on what ither Tao Intent versions there are from my forthcoming Midlet Bible.
In general, I recommend using the Russian builds over that of Risidoro, for two reasons:
1, they run off a storage card (and, therefore, store the deployed JAR files on a card too)
2, there's a vastly enhanced, "turbo" version of them.

It's right (it's his nick) posted a cab file of Jbed (but it doesn't work for me) on the bottom of this thread's first page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327080
For those really desperate on keeping their Jbeds (like me). Just move the time/date back to something before Sept 1, 2007 when starting Jbed. It will still work.

Yes, then, it'll work. However, Opera Mini will complain of the date being too early and, then, refuse to work. (Other MIDlets will, however, work.)
Partial Fix by its right (maker of the TNT ROMs)

It's pretty much just a Joedek Build: 20070425.1.1.
I have tried the calendar reset and it works fine. Once the app is launched you can set the calendar back to proper date and jbed / opera mini continue to run. This should be the case until you close jbed / opera mini. At that point you would have to reset the calendar again. (so just leave the apps running)
I'm just curious. Is anyone else's "OLD E-Java" shortcut still working? Mine seems to still work, I had two versions the NEW-nowdefunct versoin and my OLD one. I was unable to use GMaIL with the OLD, but once I installed teh NEW version, I was now able to use Gmail on my OLD E Java. My new E JAVA doesn't work anymore , but the old one still works great with GMail and Opera Mini 4.2

The Esmertec Jbed is better??
Where can i get that version, please ??
The esmertec JVM (non jbed) still works without a hitch. Only problem is no full screen. It's the esmertec Jbed JVM that does not work any longer. As to which is better I have used both and the esmertec Jbed JVM blows the regular esmertec JVM out of the water.
I see. Well hopefully we can get the Jbed version working again, without a "timebomb" as some people have said.

Can a Palm OS platform run simultaniously on a WM6 phone?

Hi guys, I have an HTC touch (sprint) and got a job with a air balancing company and they have software that links their ppc's to their server for live data entry. however the application is only available for the palm os. Does anyone know if installing multiple OS's on a phone is even possible, like installing linux on an ipod? or if not, any way to convert a palm os application to WM6 combatible application. If needed, i have the install files for my application, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If nothing exists i would even consider payment for the application to be convtered if anyone is intrested.
Thank you
Matt
you would probably have to build the application up again from the ground up if its a native palm application, although, if its written in a common language, i dont see why it couldnt be ported over
somebody more knowledgable should be able to help you better
and welcome to xda-devs
you can use styletap to run palmOS apps on windows mobile, if this is what you want to do.
Well, im 50% there, styletap works great, im able to load the software and run it, no glitches yet, however styletap doesnt seem to be allowing the application to sync with my server. any1 have any ideas? i even tried first establishing a data conn in WM6 using IE and hopped back to style tap to sync again. no luck

Gmail java midlet app on the HD2?

Has anyone got this to work on the HD2?
Of course there are other ways to access Gmail, like the default mail application, and also with any browser.
But the java midlet is nice, very fast, have used it on other phones before, including Windows Mobile.
I installed it on the HD2, using the built-in Sun midlet manager.
It appeared to install fine.
However, when I try to launch it, I invariably get the same error message: "This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength and connections settings and then restart the application".
No matter how good the data connection is, including with Wi-fi, I invariably get that same error message, when I try to launch the Gmail midlet. Anyone know what is causing that?
Has anyone been able to get it working on the HD2?
I've tried several different methods to get gmail applets to work and have been completely unsuccessful on both my HD2 and TP2, I was under the impression that they just don't have a 6.5-compatible version.
it does work, you just need to use esmertec jbed. however I found the fonts are so tiny its really difficult to use.
I end up setting the home page of opera mobile and pie both to m.gmail.com and logged in two of my most used gmail accounts.

I don't think it has anything to do with compatibility with WM 6.5. It has to do with the Java JVM that comes on the phone--from Sun.
As someone else wrote, one can install a different JVM, such as Esmertec JBED.
Surprising though, that Sun, the founder of Java, would not make sure that its mobile JVM is compatible with one of the most popular java phone apps. I wonder if Sun (and HTC) is aware of the problem?
In other respects, this version of the Sun JVM looks nice. For instance, you can choose to install each app to main memory or storage card. Good to have the choice. Also, you can turn off all permission-asking.
I tried Bolt Browser on it, also didn't work. I think it has a network problem.

I guess that's what I was trying to say....after I started using 6.5, I never found a JVM that would work with the Gmail applet I had, that's all.
