Answer/Decline buttons instead of "Drag down to answer" - Hero, G2 Touch General

I'm not sure how to change the settings on this matter but sometimes (infrequently) when I get a incoming call, instead of scrolling down my screen to answer, the common "Answer/Decline" buttons appear instead. Personally I like this better but not sure how to change it.
This is pretty much a stock Telus Hero I'm using. Any ideas would be great, thanks!

afaik: screen off/locked: pull down, screen unlocked/on: buttons.

The answer and decline buttons are at the bottom of the Hero. If you don't want to slide, use the hardware buttons....

Vibrate Upon Every Touch

I think it would be sweet if someone figured out a way to make every tap on an htc touch screen give off a light vibrate, similar to the vibrating dialpad hack. Or, if that is too much, maybe just one that vibrates when the start menu is activated and/or you press the "x" on the task manager. That would be sweet kuz i never know when i've pushed it or not due to the small lag until it actually closes the applications. I just think it would be cool to further incorporate vibration into the interface, simply to wow all of those htc touch haters.

check post #8. MaxMotus also seems to have a cab, though i'm unsure if it's different than the one posted in post #8.

Check out the dialpad vibrating file and maybe you can rewrite the registry for screen tap with a vibrate, maybe you can find the vibrate value through his cab. If you search, you may be able to find a listings of reg entries.
Oh.. it sounds good
Let me try
Hi!
I found this EXE in the forum and i want to change the length of the vibration. Do you know a way to edit it (decompiler,...)?

[Q] Keyboard Click Sound

Is a soft keyboard out there that click when you type a key, like the iPhone?
or
Is there a way to make the HTC keyboard do that?
I believe this would make typing much easier on the HD, just like the iPhone
I know people are working on haptic feedback, but I'm just not a fan of vibrate on every tap
Try SPB full screen keyboard. It has keyboard taps, skins, landscape mode et all.
thank you for your suggestion
i did try it, but i'm not completely happy with it, so i don't see myself paying for it
i just ended up enabling screen tap notifications
(in settings > sounds and notifications)
it does make a sound every time i touch the screen,
but i think it's worth it to have the keyboard 'click'
not a perfect solution, but may be someone else is curious

Try fingerkeyboard 2. Easy to use with a clicking noise after every push of the button.
I second FingerKeyboard2 much much better than the original keyboard. Typing is now a real joy and so much quicker.
Nice clicking sound too.
I tryed your suggestion and now I'm a happy user of FingerKeyboard2. Thanks!

Tweaks (i think)

Well i have the Telus version of the HTC Touch Diamond. And sadly enough it does not have a light sensor (for some stupid reason). So i was wondering if somone could make/find a tweak that could make it so when you aare in a call the screen would not become useless but you just have to put a bit more pressure than you would normally. Because my cheek always touched the end button and it pisses me off. So you would just have to push a little harder to press the end button.
Also i dont like how you cant use ringtones as SMS/TXT sounds. Well you can but it just plays till the ringtone is over. I was wondering if there is a way that you can make it so when you recieve an SMS/TXT than you all you have to do is either tap the screen wthout anything happening from pressing it(unless you press the message tab), or to touch the center button (cause its touch sensetive) also without anything happening.
anyone??
the second one is just a sugestion
the 1st is a request please

Pretty sure he wants to stop the ringtone manually. As opposed to letting it play a full song of 3mins.
Dude, use the MP3 trimmer and trim an MP3 down and set that as your SMS tone. Thus no more verses and choruses, only a portion of the song.
To stop the sms ringtone, you can press the call end button, but it switch you to the home page if your doing anything on the phone.
Yes Dickenz
Thats what i want but i used the trimmer but i always use the main chorus of a song
and thats to long eveytime i get a txt
So i can just press the end button?

N1 Major complaint

Power button to wake up then slide to unlock, this is horrible, not intuitive and actually very difficult for me to do in my good hand (left, m righty) and near impossible to do in right hand. Man i miss MT3G duoble click menu, anyone know if I can set A double trackball click? (putting it to sleep sucks too, hope the "proximity sensor" works)
Second complaint (existed with MT3g before cyan) home screen no landscape
Third (lol) I miss the app drawer
Fourth (man I know) can we get a full screen (home screen) widget that is phone dialer a la iphone so I can quick swipe to it since there is no phone button.
I look the phone and performance but honestly at this point I will probably get drawed until so of these can get fixed, I am going to stick it out and see if I can get used to it, but its been 9 hours now and not fond the "ergo"
Let me know if you have ideas, solutions or are willing to make an app hehehhe
Hahaha, I think I like every function you mentioned. To each his own I suppose...
My only problem (if it can really be called a problem) is with the push the top power button to wake the phone. It feels awkward to me. I wonder if the unlock function can be remapped to the trackball?
Yeah to each his own, the Iphone button to wake (which would be similar to trackball) can easily be done with the index/thumb hold the power button requires a cradling and sadly its difficult to contort my hand that way.
The app drawer, i dont know, i was much faster to scroll in before and the new 3d thing has a bounce back (ie it locks to 4x4 icons never halfway at top) throws off the quick flick and click for me at least.
I would love the left most home screen to just be the dialer screen flicking with thumb across screen is easier then finding icon and clicking for me at least
MMMV lol but i think others may like these things too
david, me too, actually that's my only "major" issue the rest were nits i had to pick.
lol also, the new app thing is jolting to the user experience, the rest of the home is swipe, swipe down for notifications, swipe sideways for home screens then click for apps. its weird, maybe i was only one that dragged the old draw up and down instead of clicking the tab....
The real problem with the top button is its lack of feedback. It doesn't "click". Still works though
1. I gotta admit... I don't like where the power button is. I usually hold the phone with my left hand while I use my right to swipe or press. The power button is right where I would normally hold on to the top of the phone. Its taking a conscience effort to change the way I hold it, so eventually it won't be a big deal.
2. I also agree about the homescreen. I use handcent, and if I am on the home screen when I recieve a popup, I can't turn the phone to landscape to use the bigger keyboard to post a quick reply. That is frustrating to me.
3. The button works fine for me. I kinda like it.
4. I don't care either way for a widget that lets you dial. I mean, hitting the phone button seems to work pretty well for me ( I haven't used an Iphone to know what you mean by this).
Overall, the speed is more then enough to make up for any shortcomings. The power button issue is one that has actually really bothered me. The oversaturation of colors, especially on apps like The Weather Channel has slightly bothered me. Other then that, I really like the dialer on the phone. As much as I liked wysie's contacts, the new dialer is freakin great. But I can't really complain. Its been a nice phone to have so far. Really nice. I just wish the Polar live wallpaper actually worked.
You will always be able to nitpick, but right now I'm sort of reveling in the fact that I now own the best phone the world. I didn't like the iPhone this much when I got it around launch.
maybe a 1x2 icon for dialer like the same icon from the dial pad the big green phone as a widget? lol

A lock screen is a requirement for me, so the only difference here is that I find the position of the "wake up" button on top a little awkward for 1-handed use.

Yeah, this is a BIG beef for me. I find the new app menu klunky as all get out. The label text on several rows of my menu are overlapping/corrupt, and I find it realyl tricky to scroll to the end of the menu quickly due to the way it "snaps" onto rows. Again, I hope Cyan'd firmware will revert this to sanity.

I don't use widgets, but I for one don't miss the phone buttons. Why should the phone app get preferential treatment with it's own hardkeys. *
][
* Yes, yes, I know the smarta$$ answer is "because it's a phone".
well i did a little messing around with remapping keys and wasn't able to cut my phone off, but i did make my power button into a trackball pressed button lmao.
right now, from the way it is looking, there is not an incredibly easy to make the trackball pressed (DPAD_CENTER) wake the phone up without sacrificing a fair amount of usability I will try and play with it some more later.
The files I was changing were both in /system/usr/keylayout/
mahimahi-keypad.kl and
qwerty.kl
I had to make changes to each of the 2 for it to stick. Maybe someone can take this info and run with it. I also had to reboot after pushing the files for it to take place.
The only thing that really bothers me is that one has to remove the battery to remove the SD card.
That is unlike all the other Android phones I know of. (T-mobile anyway.)
dont flame me but the top button to wake up and the slide to unlock puts me back to feeling like an iphone, and i had one for so long this feels comfortable to me

Never had an iphone, but I rather like the setup. Assures me that I'm not wasting battery life with it on in my pocket. If the touchscreen woke up on press, sure it might not unlock but it'll still be lighting up all the time.
On earlier hardware, other than the END button (which I suppose became the sleep/wake button), you could press menu (which would take you to the lock-combination screen, or the home screen if you didn't have a lock-combo) and the back button would also serve to wake the phone, you still had to use the END button to sleep.
Has any of you tested if menu or back will wake the phone?
they are touch sensitive on the nexus, so they are definitely a no-go

I sort of agree that the power button placement is awkward but I like the slide to unlock screen to help avoid pocket dials. It would be nice if there was an option to turn it off for those who are bothered by it.

[Q] Answering phone when taking out of pocket...

Hey guys, I'm running a Sense build (Phiremod's Ace build) and having a problem with the HTC dialer's answer/reject call slider. (note that this is a problem with any of the Sense builds - not picking on Phiremod's.)
I pocket carry my HD2 and since the Sense answer/reject is an up and down slider, i always wind up answering or hanging up the phone when I pull it out of my pocket.
Does anyone have any ideas to change the incoming call behavior? I know I can remove the HTC lock screen, but the answer/reject slider is apparently part of the dialer (which I love otherwise). I used S2U2 on WinMo, and have been digging around for an Android alternative. Is there any way to get the stock Android answer/reject slider (left to right) on Sense without losing the HTC dialer?
Thanks,
Ryan
+1. Have the same problem
+1, the sense lockscreen makes no sense. Unlocking in pocket, answering can be done just by looking at it from wrong angle...HTC must come up with something quick. Can't even call that a lockscreen
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
+1
happened a lot of time to me... I'm happy to know that I'm not alone...
Im not sure why HTC made the slide up and down like that it really doesn't make any sense. On the WimMo sense it slides side to side.
Count me in Big relief to see others with the same "challange". In my case it often answers call without me knowing it when its in my pocket.
+1
This is the only reason I avoid Sense. Phone upside down with the screen facing my leg is the only position that works (ie makes it easy to check the screen by pulling it out of my pocket). Unfortunately, that also declines every call I try to answer.
+1 !!! anyone?!?!
solution found!
OK i hope you guys see this - i found a solution -
just install this .apk, it presents a screen with two simple buttons (answer\decline) instead of having to slide. works like a charm no more leg\but answering declining calls
I had this problem also. Just go to system/app and you'll see htclockscreen.apk and htclockscreen.odex. You can rename or delete them but I just moved them to a folder within system/app so they're not loaded. Once done, reboot and you'll get the stock lock screen.
hey tnx mr_dilly, i actually know that, but even after going back to the stock froyo lockscreen, when getting a call you still get the htc answer\decline slide screen which is, as mentioned, crap..

Sorry, omricn. Overlooked that bit. I thought the slide to answer went away because I got the answer/reject buttons but apparently it changes once the phone is actually locked.
I use a android build without sense. Is there any app to unlock power button?
I often get a call while my phone is in my pocket and then accidently press my power button, so the call will be rejected.

are you sure the power button is the issue? how does your incoming call screen look like? it could be the same issue that i had, the slider responded to the insides of my pocket, i dont believe the power button is being pressed unless you're wearing very very tight pants
I don´t have a sense build.
I get no slider, only the answering buttons on my screen. But hardware buttons are working too. When i put my phone from my pocket i often touch my hardware power button and then the incoming call is ended.
I use proximity screenoff, so screen is blank and i can´t touch any button on my display. If i press power button, the incoming call is rejected.
I want to have a slider on my display and hardware buttons should be locked complete. Only answering a call with something on my display, but not with hardware button.
understood.. i'll be sure to let you know if i find a solution
Hi All!
The biggest problem with Sense in my opinion is the slide for unlock/answer screen. The engineer that came up with that design should get a serious *****-slap. Replacing the lock screen is fairly simple though, e.g by WidgetLocker. Replacing the slide (up/down) to answer is not that simple because it's part of the dialer, not the lock screen.
So if you like HTC sense and the sense dialer, I think you have to stick with the slide up/down for answer. I'm sure that some clever dev eventually will iron out the problem, but currently I see no solution.
Agree with every word..
