I am getting my 8125 tomarrow as a replacement for my Garmin Ique 3600 that died. One thing that I need it to do is create routes for me with GPS.
I have done a bit of looking around and found a few programs, but would like your opinions on them:
TomTom
http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=103&Language=4
CoPilot (Smartphone or Pocket PC)
http://www.alk.com/copilot/smartphone.asp
Pharos
http://www.pharosgps.com/products/accessories/Ostia_Software/NAV01.htm
Pharos is the least refined of the three. Are their any others that I should look at.
I bought TomTom, but I dont find it as convenient as iGuidance. In my opinion, iGuidance is the best program out there so far.
http://www.inavcorp.com/
what vers of iguidance do you use?? i have pairing problems with my 2.1 or 2.0 (forgot).
I am running iGuidance 2.1.3.2NA with globalsat BT-338 with absolutely no problems. installation was a breeze, runs perfectly fine even without overclocking.
I also find it much better than Tomtom, except i only wish they could make the buttons bigger for finger touch.
Here is another similar poll to save you the hassle...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=876038
can you use iGuidance to show a contacts location, then route to?
I love Mapopolis, but I have seen others that don't like it...
I believe iGuidance 2.13 is compatible with WM5. Previous versions don't work.
iGuidance will map/route to a contact.
The interface isn't as fancy as TomTom, but it is definitely more practical. In fact, I am using a TomTom receiver with it.
I'm running Oncourse 5 and it's okay.

Mapopolis is Best
Mapopolis is best for phone PDA I find... small and quick...
Software is free just pay for maps you want... or get them all for about a $100.00(North America)
Mapopolis - Maps
I like Mapopolis too, small and fast, rerouting is excellent. I prefer the 2D view to the 3D in most other programs. To get the latest beta version you shall visit http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/default.asp?group=2
There is a whole section by the Mapopolis developer.
Thanks i'll check it out.
Iguidance by default
I used to have TomTom 2.4, which I use with my 2215.
I lost it, so then I went out and bought a Dell X50v.
TomTom would not gave me a new code after I've pratically beg for it and provide all the necessary proves (all that I can provide anyway).
In any case, I tried TT5 and Iguidance on the Dell with the TT bluetooth receiver I got with TT2.4:
TT2.4 -------10 Have not found a match in function, ease, graphics and maps.
TT5.0--------2 Menu features are...well, there aren't any. Look like chicken scratch graphically(VGA?). Central CA does not existed on the map.
Iguidance---8 Works as advertised, maps are complete, graphics are simple (too simple and plan), easy to use.

Hmm, my experience differs. I have paid for and used four of the commonest PocketPC nav systems, and my ratings are:
TomTom 8
CoPilot 7.5
Mapopolis 7
Teletype 3
I returned Teletype as I found it so hopeless, but would happily use any of the other 3. TomTom is marginally the best, but it does have a couple of areas for improvements (I love the real voices, but wish there was some way it could announce the names of the roads, for example).
I am surprised/doubtful that central California 'doesn't exist' - all of Washington state is there in glorious detail, so why leave out California (apart from the obvious reasons ).
Adam
do any of these do full postal (zip) code searching as tomtom does? I work as a courier and full post code is essential for finding places out of town that do not have a regular street address.
Regarding contacts navigation; I have a Contacts Navigator program installed when I installed TomTom, does anyone know what this does or how it works? I don't haven't found any reference to it in the software.
Cheers.
thanks for those who have already tested several of these navigator to give their opinion.
I am gonna buy one of them but which one, that is another problem.
For now, I am balanced between igo8 and navigon 7.
iGo8...........
I've tried TomTom7 and Navigon 7. Both work fine, but TomTom 7.910 is seriously sluggish when navigating.
Navigon updates the screen much faster, and has a much more modern and polished look (I'd almost say eye-candy) - it's like comparing (something produced with) MS Paint vs PhotoShop. Navigon is very sluggish when entering city names and addresses, but I noticed that I could type ahead - even though the screen appeared frozen, the GUI would eventually catch up with every letter.
My slant is still towards TomTom though, but just because I find the menus and controls more intuitive (plus, I'm used to it from earlier versions). This occasion has been my first with Navigon.
I may have a-go (haha) with IGo soon.
At least you could have started a poll. Now you will have to count. But I will help you out here. iGO8 will win. It is the most appealing navigation software for PDA's. Maybe not the best, but the most tweakable for sure. And we all like tweaking
David
iGO 8, no doubt.
Yeah iGO8 is the my choice as well! anyone found 800x480 skins???
Postcodes
Hi
Could UK users of iGO8 tell me if it does postcodes or just addresses?
TIA
Cheers

Postcodes
There is an extensive review of the iGO 8 here which looks at UK postcodes
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/navngo-igomyway8-review-hmnx4.php
Myself, I still can't bring myself to buy it, despite it looking impressive, I just couldn't keep swapping microSD cards all the time.
Thanks for that.
Pretty good review!

Just some questions:
- Does Navigon support Traffic Information as TT7 does?
- Does IGO8 support Traffic Information as TT7 does?
As far as I could see, only TT7 supports traffic information over the GPRS/UMTS-connection together with the built-in GPS.

iGO8 or navigon 7
Im using iGO 8 and Navigon 7 with my HD. I do'nt like TomTom.
When I'm making long distances on the highway I like Igo8 the most because it has a smartzoom function and gives an automatic 2D map overview during traveling.
When I'm traveling from France to the UK Navigon does'nt recognize the channel tunnel he's always using the ferrylines. (perhaps my mistake) In Switserland the tunnelmode in Igo is perfect.
For shorter city trips and when I'm, traveling in a high traffic density Navigon is superior with his excellent TMC module and better voice commands. Igo8 has a sluggish TMC support. It does not recognize all trafficjams and makes a lot of mistakes when it's recalculating a new route. Also the Navigon maps are more up to date.
The Navigon TMC module only supports the GNS TMC protocol. Igo8 supports more protocols, so I'm using two GPS/TMC devices. A less sensitive ans slow GNS mouse with Navigon and a fast and sensitive Royaltek GPS/TMC mouse with iGO8.
All installed...
I have Navigon MN7, iGo 8 and Tomtom 7 installed on my HD !! ;-)
My point of view :
- Tomtom 7 has the less accurate maps and the World's ugliest graphical interface, however it's very fast !
- iGo 8 use the same not so accurate maps as Tomtom ! For example, two hold gas-stations close to my home are missing, and the speed limit are often wrong.
- Navigon MN7 has by far the nicest interface and more accurate maps... + Reality View… + Text-to-speech for road’s name…
So for me, the choice is easy :
1 : Navigon MN7
2 : iGo 8
3 : Tomtom 7
I'm likely to be in the same boat soon (choosing a sat nav solution). But there seams to be alot of confusion around traffic options for the UK.
Anyone able to give clear UK specific info for the traffic update options for each of the candidates...
Thanks,
Zuber
Am I right in thinking that there is no Australian maps for Navigon? So for us down here it is TomTom or Igo?

Hi Rolud,
how do you work with iGO 8 and other tools: you change storage cards or is it an iGO version you can install on a larger storage card?
I'm not requesting a "warez" solution, just to get practical registration info.
Thanks for info.
Good tracks.
Actually the 3 softwares are installed on the very same 8Gb SDHC card, included with the Touch HD...
And everything is working fine...
May as well have may say then!
How can you look past tomtom? It's the original and this newer version is far superior to V6 which in itself was awesome. V7 is on my Blackstone right now and works fine (by the way, if anyone is having issues trying to get it to run on their system, just PM me and i'll help all i can with what bits i have on my pc).
Currently running... tomtom 7.450.9028 which seems super stable and the maps to match... not V6 as we should all know by now, they aren't compatible!
Anyway, i've seen the other options you have mentioned in use in more than one location and personally, not impressed. At the end of the day though... it's your choice and (if you really want to go down this route) your cash!!!

Hi all, just bought my HD2 and i'm searching for some navigation software, I saw the TomTom version being installed on the HD2 is the same as on my old HTC Elf, so I'm a bit confused, what's the best navigation software for our device? Just shoot!
Thankz
I have used both TomTom and iGO8 both work for me. But being a long term Tomtom user tend to use that the most
i have tom tom, but am yet to give it a good work out(so to speak)
thankz for the input!
TomTom user here, too. Been very happy with it on my TyTnII, looking forward to experiencing it on an HD2. Though every now and again the maps are not 100% accurate (like sending you down a fire road in very rural areas) that applies to any navigation product. I find it easy to use, reliable and there's a large community of TomTom users out there to get help from.
Just installed TomTom, i'll try IGO8 also, looks promising
I love my Copilot live (Version 8) with TTS and Live Traffic. Roxxx!
And: after 3 years of usage (including Live traffic) it has cost almost as much as navigon (30 € Copilot + 5€ TTS + 3x20€ Live Traffic) and: It is much better (in my humble opinion).

Same here, but I don't use the TTS service.
Can safely say that it is pretty impressive, especially as it was cheap too.
My CoPilot 8 trial has just ended and was considering purchasing the full version... (£26.99 for UK/Ireland & £59.99 for Europe)
im using tomtom too. works well and connects to satellite pretty fast bout 20-30seconds.
after a long search I decided to use IGO8, I'm really surprised about this navigation software, love it!

I have tried TOMTOM, IGO8, TELENAV, DESTINATOR, for me and my uses, I stick with and will continue to use GARMINXT, all the extra fancy crap is overkill, it works great. you should try them all and find out which one, in your opinion, is best for you.
Currently have Garminxt - Tomtom -IGo8 - route66 - ndrive each have their own plus and conns garminxt is really good for finding things through google, tomtom is simple and does the job(die hard) igo8 is stunning to look at and runs on the hd2 like silk with no gps lag like the others and the arrow movement is soo smooth, but its pio's are not accurate, was a loyal tomtom user but igo8 has edged it and is the one i will always use first.
I've been looking at this too. CoPilot is very smooth. I must say I am very surprised by it. Saw a demo comparing the performance of both CoPilot and TomTom on YouTube, (nice look at the HD2 too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHB_8_4cBw4
I have always used tomtom on my Touch HD despite the GPS Lag. Looks like the HD2 has the same problems. What do people think?
yep same lag, but also had lag on my xperia x1, for me on hd2 igo8 rules.
WAZE
its a great app.. turn by turn navi.. plus its FREE!!!! and it has soo many features that other gps navi's do not..
I have always used Garmin Mobile XT and on this phone it is no different. Always works get a lock in 10sec and I am on the move with pinpoint POI placement for speed-camera warning and easy integration of custom POI.
Been using it the last week and the large screen makes this application even better and the colour and contrast is very very good.
Have not used the others but am impressed with Garmin Mobile XT.
Hi
I just install the igo navigation on my desire, the program seens to work fine but i have the following problem i can get the aplication running on full screen , how i can do that? i can't find any settings on the program for change the resolution.
Regards
Quite simple you can't!
The resolution of the Desire (and the N1, and the droid, etc) isn't supported yet.
I tryed navigon and it works great. you should give it a try.
thx for you fast reply , dit you know when will be suported?
You can try this: download from HERE motonav and install it then rename the igo folder on the sd card to motonav and there you go. full screen igo amigo with a diferent skin.
Wondering if this really works.....
Had motonav installed on my Desire, but because the resolution of the Milestone is different from the Desire, you're missing a few bottom pixels/buttons.
I've already send iGo an e-mail but until now I never received an answer.
I've tried all the different best known navigation software available on Android (Navigon, Motonav, Sygic and now CoPilot) but all have there strength and weaknesses. I really don't have a favorit.
On WM my favorite was iGo or Navigon. Actually I thought I preferred Navigon but it didn't run smooth enough on my Xperia so I sticked with iGo.
But it looks like they somehow leave features out of the navigation on Android.
On android navigon looks great, but it gives an error when navigating to a different country then the one you live in (if someone has an solution please let me know), and I'm missing some information on the screen like how much time and distance left till you reach the destination.
CoPilot looks more for children... Big colorfull icons which sometimes interfere with the interface (eg the speedlimit indicator).
Motonav works great, but couldn't get the speedcameras to work, and it also looks a bit depressive with the purple/brown/grey colors. Also important information was missing, you had to press on the screen first to see that information. Not really safe doing this when you're driving your car.
Sygic sometimes calculates really strange routes. And the newest version 10 didn't work smooth on my desire. During driving it wasn't smooth at all. Even though I had turned of all the online services.... Maybe I had the wrong version. Don't really know.
After all I now stick with CoPilot because it has the most options I want, runs smooth, but for me it far from ideal.
The smoothest runs Navigon.
The best would be a combination between Navigon and iGo/Motonav...
But to come back on topic, if you've tried the solution of R3dD3vil please let me know
Owww I see the version of R3dD3vil is a special 480x800 version..... Hmm that's solves a bit of the problems
@Bart1981,
Do you have the 30 day trial avigo? Because one of the limits is navigation in 1 country only.
Let's say it this way, I had a modified version of the Navigon trial
But that would explain the thing
btw the file posted bij R3dD3vil works. But it's not flawless....
Sometimes some text and numbers are interfering with eachother. And the menueffect are not that fluently as they are in the original motonav file. But it works
I saw this was version 2, so properbly there will come some other finetuned versions....
any news on igo / motonav version that would work flawlessly?
Regards,s
yes, the motonav link from top is working 100%. i have it on my desire, and works flawless! i'm in argentina, and without it i think i have to drive off roads, in the air!!! this is the link
are speedcams working with MotoNav?
Yes , working fine here.
yep, for me too.
have you put them into content/speedcam?
yep,overthere
works great here
wow, that simple!!! Just took my maps,POI etc from another nav I have for my WM phone and it works!

iGO on Desire
Hi, I need some help. I installed iGO with skin from MotoNav. but I have a problem with speedcam , not to show my nothing. What files should exist in sdcard/motonav/content/speedcam ? I'm interested in the following countries Norway, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. I have these files in the folder speedcam:
speedcam.spdb,
SpeedcamUpdates.spud

From what I understand you can leave the GPS on at all times. Android actually powers it on only if needed, so it shouldn't be on whe you are not using the navigation software. You can check this easily since the GPS icon at the top only shows when you open the navigation software.

Copilot works fine for me too
#1 iGO myWay
#2 Aura
at least for me
I used IGO on my previous phone, but now I'm using Aura.
Both good, and always pointed me to my destination.
I've tried plenty of them. I think I should try iGO next as people seem to like it. Here's my opinions on some of the most popular navigators.
CoPilot Live 8 is quite solid one. It has a lot of features and POI:s everywhere. The UI is very smooth and fast, maybe the best you can get on phone navigator. The only downside is battery usage. From all the navigators I've tried, this definitely uses the most battery. I could drain almost 20% battery with less than 1 hour drive. So if you need to navigate without having a charger or spare battery at hand, I wouldn't recommend CoPilot.
NDrive 10 This is a real beast with battery, but it has it's costs - the UI is clutchy and laggy. Searching places is a real pain in the ass, because the keyboard NDrive uses is some custom one with strange position of keys. Some features are well hidden to menus, for example it was really hard to navigate a premade route. I would not recommend this program unless you need the navigating software that doesn't take all your battery.
Navigon After some difficulties with Gingerbread Android I finally got my hands on the newest Navigon and so far the experience has been good. The setup was hardest for all these navigators, as I had to use some quite laggy and badly translated PC program to download maps. Other option was to download them directly from phone, which was extremely slow and for some reason it only downloaded maps to another continent.
Navigon has quite smooth UI and seems to have plenty of features, although I am not sure if it has as much as CoPilot. Battery usage seems to be somewhere in between Copilot and NDrive.
Google Maps seems to be quite simple navigator and that's probably all what I need, not any fancy internet features as some of these navigators offer. The bad thing about Google Maps is that it hasn't got turn-by-turn navigation where I live. Maybe some day I can try navigating with Google Maps so I can tell how it compares to these other ones on the market.
I hope you got any help from these short reviews. If you need any more information, please feel free to ask!
Aura for me works perfectly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
For offline navigation I use Aura GPS Navigation. But in my country I use Google Maps (brut for navigation ), it's the best.
I wanted to install iGo8, i did as well , but i removed it because of the lack of the possibility to move it to SD. If it's possible than please somebody tell me the trick, 'cause I used to have igo on my touch HD and I loved it.
igo primo +1
