Is there any other way to downgrade the mytouch to 1.5 besides the goldcard method (i got the “main version older message”)
try looking @ theunlockr.com
they have the one click root process posted...or google it
already went to the unlockr
Well I did go to theunlockr.com and thats how I found the goldcard method. He said that for some reason newer model mytouch 3g's wont allow downgrade using the sappimg.nbh file (thats why i keep the main version older message). He offers what is known as the goldcard method which is kinda complicated. I know other people are having this same problem and I feel like I tried everything and searched everywhere. but i guess if the goldcard method is the only way then i better get tech savvy now!...lol... I just dont wanna brick my phone. I have a g1 that i rooted (using the one click method) but this mytouch has me going crazy!!...any help is greatly appreciated.

Help...
Well I basically don't know where I am right now
Ive been researching how to mod a My-touch 3G for a long time and im a first time rooter
I'm Trying to get Cyanogen Mod 5.07 Hopefully but... I followed the directions at the Unlockr website not knowing it had different recovery than the ones needed for a CyangenMod
I got mixed up with multiple guides about rooting my phone in the first place and there are SO MANY different things to install...
Well I got my MT3G BACK to CupCake Android 1.5... i did the unroot process
But the wierd thing is that I cant seem to ROOT IT? FUNNY?
I dont know whats wrong but I followed the step and video at unlockr website and it just doesnt seem to work
and tried the androidandme site and their guide doesnt work for me too
Ive formatted my sd and did a factory reset too
I really want Cyangen 5.07 but it seems too complicated for me and I dont want to end up like before?
Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
radio 2.22.23.02
hboot 1.33.0006
cpld 10
1.5 crb43
Jason
Did you look in Cyanogen's website under wiki? The directions are clear and all the files you need are there. I would post link but this is account is considered new still so it isn't letting me yet.

Thanks for your reply but the thing is that I see websutes that clearly show you don't need a goldcard to root and that's what I want. Fir some reasons my phone just won't root. ..

Just understand one thing: Goldcard avoids check of CustomerID.
ROM has CIDs, your phone has CID. If phone-CID is in ROM CIDs list - you can flash without goldcard. This means official ROM for your phone. If you have T-Mobile MyTouch 3G (old version) - you can use only COC10 ROM or update to Android 1.6 (i forgot full name), i repeat - without goldcard.
If you have MT3G v1.2 - you must use goldcard, as unroot-method is using some special ROMs with other CIDs (non T-Mobile). Or use official ROMs without gc.
Hi, I'm new to android and i have a mytouch 3g which is running 1.6 . I've been trying to unroot it for days now using sappimg.nap file to get back to 1.5 so that I could root to run froyo but ever time the hboot screen says failed to update because main version is older. I've tried several websites but none have worked. I also tried the goldcard method but it didn't work either
Your goldcard wasn't made successfully then. But its easier if you use the Androot method listed in these forums since you don't have to make a goldcard.

thanks that helped a lot , I got it rooted and running froyo
I had an incredible amount of trouble rooting my G1 after i got the OTA update. I looked for answers everywhere and there weren't many, and way too many "do a forum search" answers on forums. As if i hadn't tried searching haha.
Luckily i finally figured out how to do it.
The solution is to create the Unlockr's Goldcard. This creates an SD card that gets around the security of your current build.
If you want to skip a lot of steps (1-8) in the Unlockr's method, download the Goldcard Helper from the Market. This gives you the number you need without using adb. If you have a PC you can follow the Unlockr's guide from step 8 on and create your Goldcard.
(edit: from here downgrade to 1.5 and one click root will probably work)
I am assuming that most of you can figure out the rest, since i'm really busy right now, but i want to open a thread to point people in the right direction. If I see people having trouble i'll make a [Guide] when i get some time.
For now, Good Luck, and if you have it, try Super D. You'll feel like that G1 is like new again!

Or you could just slap an rc29 .nbh file onto the sdcard, install that, and root as normal.
In theory...that's what everyone on forums keeps saying, but I was really frustrated because it doesn't work...at least it didn't work for me.
Were you ever able to do that successfully from the DMD64 build, or just rc30?
I don't know for sure, but I think a lot of people who were trying really hard to be helpful perhaps had rooted their phones before the last OTA update from T Mobile and therefore didn't realize there was a new problem.

There are a couple of different nbh files for matching the particular region of your hardware. This technique most definitely DOES work, but since DREAM was available as ADP, anybody who ever HAD to was, by definition, either retarded, or bought it from someone who was retarded.
Well, I downloaded every findable .nbh file and none were allowed until I put them on a "goldcard."
Yes, I tried everything in the forums to the letter. I think I chiefly had trouble because everyone responded to other people with the same problem saying "it works, you just need to [insert common solution that I already tried]"
But I don't mean offence because I really do know that you are just trying to be helpful.
I just mean that unless you *actually* have rooted a DMD64 build, and you may have FAIK, you might just be adding to the problem...

All that a goldcard does is it bypasses the CID check. If you do, in fact, have a tmobile branded phone with OEM firmware, then there is no benefit from a goldcard since the CID check will obviously pass since the hardware's CID matches the nbh's CID. Whatever you did differently that made the "goldcard" work had nothing to do with it being a goldcard.
Ah! You are smart! You actually just cleared up what happened with my phone and why I had so much trouble!
Here is what happened: I had just received the phone (Rogers branded) and was extremely new to Android and rooting. I attempted to root got it all done, running with cm6 etc. I overclocking it, but had made a mistake in one of my CPU speeds, freezing my phone. When I tried to reboot to recovery, I accidentally rebooted to hboot and the the t-mobile nbh was still on my SD and it installed. So I ended up with t-mobile stock 1.5. So now I had to go to work, and just left it with the uptake t-mobile Rom. In the middle of the day I got a "there is an update available" notice. I thought it was for an app (noob, I know) and let it update. That is how I got a Rogers branded phone with t-mobile 1.6 DMD64 software and why I needed the goldcard to re-flash the t-mobile cupcake!
Thanks for persisting with me and helping me figure out the mystery.
Cheers!

Thank you sir for finding this solution. I'm in almost the exact same shoes you were in. Noob to Android/rooting. Got this G1 from a friend with 1.6 DMD64 already on there. No root methods have worked so far. Going to try the goldcard sometime today. Will confirm whether it works..
Goldcard was what worked for me! 1-Click method, however, did not work.
Used the text-instructions/downloads from theunlocker.com. I can't post links on XDA yet, so the titles of the articles are "How To Root The HTC G1/Dream" with warnings of how it's an outdated method (but still the only one that works for my DMD64). Then I used "How To Load A Custom Rom On The HTC G1/Dream."
Did not use the videos on those websites...instead used a YouTube video for guidance. Its title is "How To Root Your T-Mobile G1 with Android 1.6 Pt 1."
Successfully running Cyanogen 6 now. Compared to 1.6...Ridiculous UI improvement and a ridiculous battery life decrease.
I tried em all, and gotta say thatv though I wanted android 2.x, Super D was IMHO, without a doubt, the best ROM for the G1.

I have a mytouch 3g without the 3.5 mm headset jack and im trying to find a reliabble root method. The phone is running 2.2.1 build number FRG83D. If anyone could help me out with step by step directions ono how to root this device i would really appreciate it.

(cannot link the url because this is my first post here)
but i am not able to go beyond the first step.
in the hboot it does not pick up the sappimg.nbh file.
can you try it and see if it works. want to know if its the build or my device thats the problem.
thanks
First off, wrong section, this should be in General, not Development.
As for what your trying to do, try using the SuperOneClick method, found here. Your probably trying to root using the goldcard method which will work, but isn't what you want to do. Use the method I linked and let me know if it works. Hopefully, it will and didn't get patched.
frg83d build breaks 1 click root.
just read this article on theandroidphone dot com
2.2.1 is out, breaks 1-click root
1 click root will not work on this phone
Sorry man. Im new to the whole forum scene

I heard from somewhere that the 2.2.1 update fixes that flaw so the 1-click method is probably not going to work. If he uses the goldcard method it will downgrade his radio too since I am pretty sure this new update will also come with a new radio. Just recently, I used the update.zip method of flashing to the new radio and it went flawlessly. Not noticing any difference in it though regarding performance.
And yes I was feeling... dangerous when I flashed the radio.
EDIT: Oh! Thread moved.
LOL. Yes we do get the new radio. Saw someone post their system info on the t-mobile forums that had gotten the update. Hopefully we'll see a fix for one of the one-click root apps soon.

One click worked for me on my 2.2.1 without problem. What gave me problem is that new update was restoring origonal recovery after reboot. I believe best way to do it is flash 1.5 SAPPIMG or whatever that file called, than install rooted 1.6 and then already rooted froyo. Dont foeget to install recovery from amon ra or clockwork when you will be on 1.5. Tutorial on how to do it is in dasansrule post, link is in my tutorial: development/[custom Radio SPL] sticky

all of the how to's are exactly the same. just different information in each one.
I unrooted my phone and followed This Walk-though and it worked perfectly. no if/ands/buts about it.
If that seems to complicated you can always follow The Unlockr's method it's REALLY simple and easy to follow.
