Hello everyone.
I am really interested in getting the neoTouch. However, the video recording looks pretty bad, does anyone know of any tweaks, or upcoming firmwares to improve the quality?
Thanks.
I think it is a hardware problem...

My fello Jade users. Video recording is not only dependant on programs used or storage size. Foremost it needs a reasonably good "lens" specs and jade does not have that. .. get a vidcam..

Dear azahidi,
I had a HTC Touch (elf) before with aweful video recording quality. After I installed Coolcamera the video quality got improved alot. Unfortunalty Coolcamera is not supported on Devices with qualcomm CPUs
It has nothing to do with the "lens" ... at that point you are wrong!

Yes.. may be. I guess the lens in Jade could be the same spec as (and could also be used in) those vidcams producing HD videos.
Hi Guys,
I am guessing the HD2 doesn't come with video recording (strange for a top smartphone as this) but is there any chance of a software solution coming in the future that might support this feature?
cheers,
Zhuk

Why do you guess this....Are you talking about 3g video calls, then no..
I`m sure you`ll be able to take videos though...
aren't there videos taken with HD2 floating around in youtube?
Yes there are. And yes, HD2 has video recording. The "guesses" come from the official spec sheet where video recording isn't mentioned I think.
seriously, there's a thread on the front page about video playback...

And how exactly is that relevant to the subject of video recording?
I hope you guys are right! video recording would make me very happy!

I think you're confused by the Iphone - until recently it didn't support video recording - as far as I know, winmo has always had that when a camera is installed?
but just to set this straight, what do you mean with video recording?
start the camera and record a video and save to memory card or something else?

Because almost every phones (except apple) imaginable in the last 5 years have had video recording? A cheap $25 samsung slider has video recording, so what makes you think a high-end $800-900 phone doesnt come with one? That's like asking if a new Ferrari 458 will be expensive...

Not to sound like a troll, but as a genuine comment knowing people who had the iPhone as their first "proper" smartphone, they've been genuinely surprised that pretty much every other camera-containing smartphone ever made has video recording and mms (copy and paste/multitasking/etc less so).
Just wanted to say that some people have to cut the attitude, I was only asking a question! and the reason I thought it didn't come with video recording is because a preview said as much and I thought it was strange. This will be my first smartphone so give me a break!

No, there aren't. It's only one video and looks very bad. I guess the camera is craptastic
There is one video sample here. It's not as bad as some, but it's no dedicated video camera.

Just wondering is this a software thing?
Is this something on HTC's end? Im pretty sure we could get smoother recording for video capture, it kinda makes me sick when watching back clips recorded.
I guess I can't complain since I remember the older smartphones.
Thanks.
The camera and vid are nothing special but nor are they all that bad. As you say, just remember how it used to be! I actually think the video capture is pretty good for what it is.

Make sure in the recording option its set to MP4. And you updated firmware, seems to make difference.
Yeah I think the phone is amazing, htc have come a long way. I've been doing loads of tweaks on the thing and its improved it massively...
I'm pretty sure they could tweak the video too, if htc fixed the pink spot then making the video record smoother would be great. Does anyone know how to play around with the code for the video recording app?

The new .148 ROM? I thought they didn't do anything for the camera app.
Since I upgraded Rom and the camera fix, the video looks better on mine.
Hey guys, quick question for nexus one users. Do you guys consider taking 720p video important? I know you could do the 720p hack, but the quality is so-so with alot of stuttering. Do you guys find vid recording a selling point or just a perk thats not really necessary.

Yes i use it and love it. i find the micro stuttering is from a slow sd card. It wasn't a selling point for me since its not a stock feature

if you turn off auto focus, it's pretty good. i call 720p a good selling point, and from now on a must have for a phone.

*lol, like the vid!
I'd trade 720p for better quality pictures, so no, it's not that important to me, but nice to have nevertheless.
forgot to put in the reason why im asking.
i love the vanilla UI and i LOVE (you have no idea) the Nexus One styling. This is the phone i wanted for a really long time. But the thing is, the nexus one is lacking in apps (one in particular that i play everyday, bejewled blitz) and its lacking in the HD recording department (and touch to focus). Im trying to decide if those two things are worth going back to the iphone. The ironic thing is, i dont even take videos on the iphone. i think its the fact that its nice to have.
being stuck in the middle blows.
CM6 video has touch to focus and continuous auto-focus in video.

does it rival the iphone 4's vid quality or is it a bit more stutter-y?

You're comparing a year old phone with a few months old phone...not working, compare it with the 3Gs!
I don't have an iPhone 4 but I'm pretty sure the iPhone has better video/picture quality than the Nexus
It's not that important to me now, but may be in the near future...
It is not as good as the iPhone 4's but the Nexus One is an older, less powerful phone. The video quality is adequate.

Wow thats really good quality video. Not really a pic/video person but glad my n1 will take quality video.
thanks for the replies guys. i guess i'll use the nexus one as a primary phone and carry the iphone if i go places i need to record videos.
i would just like some mod that can enable the auto focus when im recording something
not really important but always good to have.. loving cm6.1rc1
I've used the video capabilities exactly one time.
Don't think that 720p would do anything for me.

I can do that in CM6 ... if I understand you right. I'm able to change focus method in the middle of the recording.
I agree with some of the posts here.
I don't care about the 720p recording but it's good to have it but I'd also definetly trade it for better quality on my photos
Yeah bcpk I don't use cm I'm on geo's Rom
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

could anyone fix the Sw of camera for 30fps recording in night? look at samsung galaxxy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL06Y4hTvKw
cmon! hey guys
this is probably possible but it isnt a vital issue hence it will not get a fix anytime soon.
you may find that changing settings to auto instead of manual might make it smoother, its not that bad i did a test video and media coder reported it @ 25 fps which is good enough
If you owned SGS before DHD you will be screaming with anger, i know i am, regarding camera quality ...
sorry i meant to say change it from auto to manual, i just realised i had it the other way around in my previous post
well hopfully a previous sgs owner with the knowledge to do it will come along

HTC are renowned for ****ty video recording and pictures, I's surprised you didn't look it up beforehand. It's something that HTC clearly doesn't care about as they aren't doing anything about improving it, it's a shame really.
obv in normal daylight it is ok i can get 30 FPS no problem. after that video is great anyone can extract htc camera .apk and repair it? for example cook some xml config files . i found there fps_layout.xml
