Hi!
Is it possible to install Windows Mobile 6 SDK with VS 2008 Trial or VS 2010 Beta 2?
When I am trying to install it I get information that it is impossible because VS 2005 SP1 or later is required?
Operating System: Vista.
Best regards,
labut3

I've got the WM6 SDK Refresh, the WM6.1.4 update and the WM6.5 DTK all running happily with VS2008. Is the WM5 SDK already installed?

No, I am just trying to install Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK Refresh.msi. Is it possible and correct?
i'm trying to get a dev. environment set up too
just checking but are you using VS2008 standard or pro?
i think you can only code for WM in vs-pro (which SUCKS)
can anyone confirm is there's another way to do it? because i'm not paying for a professional upgrade licence
I assume you guys are using VS2008 Express = you won't be able to install Windows Mobile SDK

I thought that since MS has been so current with updating their mobile devices that naturally they would release a new Mobile OS before its PC counterpart.

Hi all,
I just bought an O2 XDA(ii). Regarding software development, what compiler is needed? I have Visual Studio 2003 and 2005, but isn't some sort of cross compiler needed for Windows Mobile?
Also, can the the .NET compact framework be installed on Windows Mobile? If so, will a Windows .NET app run on it?
Sorry for the basic questions, but one has to start somewhere!!
Thanks

In order to develop applications for pocket pcs, you need to download the sdks from Microsoft.
With VS2005 you can create .Net applications for pocket pcs and test them on an emulator or on the device directly.
There is a .Net framework installed on WM2005 pocket pcs.
Cheers,
.Fred
Excellent - thanks!
My institute has a genuine copy of Platform Builder for Windows CE 5.0 given by Microsoft. Is it possible to develop a 5.0 ROM for Magician using that?
No.
You need a BSP (Board Support Package) from the OEM that contains all the drivers and settings for a specific device.
Plus, there is a different Platform Builder for Windows CE and Windows Mobile.
Thank you very much. But I'd like to ask how do they realize Linux on Magician.

via reverse engeneering.
You can do the same - reverse engeneer the ROM, recreate BSP for magician and compile Windows CE 5.0, or even Windows CE 6.0 for your device. It would take 1-2 years for this to do.
You would be unable to compile Windows Mobile 5.0 because you don't have WinMobile adaptation kit. MS provides it to OEMs only.
And you should know the difference between CE and WM.
Just got a tweet from WinMo team:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=20686a1d-97a8-4f80-bc6a-ae010e085a6e

Read more carefully! There is a new API for Gestures.
I just wanted to ask why is it devs have tried getting all the desktop OS to run in qemu but I haven't heard of anyone testing windows xp mobile embedded? Why? I would imagine it would be easier to run as it's the mobile version of XP.
Windows XP Embedded has now morphed into Windows Embedded Standard, but this is only available to run on x86 or x64 platforms.
The version that will run on ARM devices is Windows Embedded Compact 7, which is the continuation of WinMo 6.5
To answer the original question, it ain't gonna work. Not on a phone device, that is.
