Which languages for WM devices?

I come from years of Symbian PDA owning/development, and I had several languages available, besides C++: OPL (Basic-like), PersonalJava, J2ME, MidletPascal, Python, Jython, m-Shell... all of them for FREE!
What are the alternatives on a WM machine? Can I only develop in C++, or have I some FREE alternatives?
do you mean languages or programming envioments ?
embedded visual studio is free if you mean envioments

both.
I just found info about the embedded visual studio you talk about. I see c++ allows API access, but VB cannot. Any workaround?
I also found WABA and EWE: for the first, site states "you can write native code by modifing WABA sources"; I guess it means writing additional C++ code?
for the second, it says it allows accessing native functions: does it mean you can use EWE to start/receive calls, send/receive SMS, access COM port,...?
The following languages/interpreters are used nicely on HTC Typhoon:
1. Jython 2.2 for Java 1.1.8 SE (along with Personal Java CE 1.1 and the JDK runtime/library);
2. Perl CE 5.8.0 from the Rainer-Keuchel portings;
3. nScriptm HPCARM 0.104 by Nakka/ S/K;
4. Rebol CE 1.5.5 by Carl Sassenrath.
An advanced application manager such as SPHelper is needed to solve the pointing device stuff ...
There is a Smartphone patch for Python CE from one of the developers at SF.net released in March I did not try yet, (perhaps someone interested will) ...

thanks, that's very interesting, especially Jython: Is Java 1.1.8 supported by all HTC devices?
Yupp, it sure is ... but Sun Microsystems stopped releasing it alltogether to the end user, R.I.P Personal Java (this was the actual compatibility with CE) ...
The link is:
isiam.blogspot.com (I`ve made it as described) ...

that blog is just the reason for which I asked about PersonalJava compatibility
I use PJ compatible PDAs since several years (SonyEricsson p800, Motorola a1000...), and I'd like to continue being able to use PJ applications even when I'll pass to Windows PDA!
I guess you can add Python CE v2.5 to that list as well now ...
It`ll be working fine on every single WM version existing, although I did not test`em all:

wm6.5 has not been released for the HD and never will. Only way to get it is by flashing a cooked rom with wm6.5 on it. Step-by-step guide can be found here.
EDIT
I see you started a new thread with an updated query so I'll close this one

Windows Mobile 6 SDK and VS2008

Hi!
Is it possible to install Windows Mobile 6 SDK with VS 2008 Trial or VS 2010 Beta 2?
When I am trying to install it I get information that it is impossible because VS 2005 SP1 or later is required?
Operating System: Vista.
Best regards,
labut3

I've got the WM6 SDK Refresh, the WM6.1.4 update and the WM6.5 DTK all running happily with VS2008. Is the WM5 SDK already installed?

No, I am just trying to install Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK Refresh.msi. Is it possible and correct?
i'm trying to get a dev. environment set up too
just checking but are you using VS2008 standard or pro?
i think you can only code for WM in vs-pro (which SUCKS)
can anyone confirm is there's another way to do it? because i'm not paying for a professional upgrade licence
I assume you guys are using VS2008 Express = you won't be able to install Windows Mobile SDK

Windows RT on HD2? Is it possible for me?

Hello
I read a thread about Windows RT on the HTC HD2 (link with Pictures: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35963346&postcount=82)
Is it possible for me, to install it on my HD2?
Does it run beside Windows mobile 6.5?
Is there any tutorial? (i couldn't find any)
I would really like to try - if it is possible. If there is no tutorial, and i dont think it will be possible - for me at least.
I appreciate your help
Best regards
Andreas

The ROM's only a proof of concept as of now, you can't download it and nobody but Cotulla can run it (well at least the one in the pics, if anybody else could port it I'd be very impressed). I wouldn't expect the ROM to be publicly released any time soon, but maybe within the next few months.
Thank you for the reply.
I will look forward to see if it gets released. It looks promising, and i hope the developers will keep up the good Work.
I will just use Ubuntu until then
Best regards

And its an x86 version (Enterprise) and not the ARM version (RT)
You'll need the updated MAGLDR by Cotulla,
but he hasn't released it...
For now, just wait
