I have been relatively calm about the shortcomings of my HD2. I understand when purchasing anything even slightly touched by the delicate hand of Microsoft that you will have to tweak, fix and workaround - this is all part of the fun with the phone.
Today however the phone went one step too far. I awoke this morning to find my HD2 had yet again forgotten my PIN number, so on unlocking the screen I was informed that I had entered the incorrect PIN(!). I soft reset the device, removed the SIM card, let it stand for a few seconds then booted up again to no avail.
I have now entered the 'incorrect' PIN too many times, and so my device has deleted all information on it... losing all contacts, photos etc.
For a phone to get something so basic so wrong is unforgivable. Coupled with the issues with SMS (i.e. texts sitting in the outbox, and when it finally decides to send them, they go to the wrong people, taking an age to load conversations), I think HTC/Microsoft have a problem they need to address.
Sorry to hear of your problems, but by far the majority have not had any of the problems you have mentioned. Try a hard reset and remember to back up your device.
Mine has lost connection settings and 2 email accounts at the same time. Your problem is much worse of course. Instead of a finished phone i feel like part of an experiment at the moment, and HTC will finish the Rom whenever they can be bothered..

I have had this incorrect PIN message also. sometimes when left over night and occasionally during the day.
So far a soft reset has solved it. Since having my HD2 I've had to reset it 1 - 2 times a day. Not very impressed at its lack of stability.
I have a SIM free unlocked UK HD2

stock rom i have the original 1.43 i think and i have had this problem, was begining to think i was the only one!
Also My HTC HD2 lost its password already twice
Hello, I can add to this threat that I also had an unexpected and incorrect ' wrong password' experience twice, where my password (8 digits, correctly entered) was suddenly not accepted anymore. Soft resets did not help and I had to restore previous backups loosing recently entered data. Very annoying and in my view not acceptable.

Very annoyingly this has also happened to me. My phone ran out of battery last night, and when plugged back in a few minutes later, the device didn't recognise my four digit pin.
Is there some sort of generic pin it resets to?
Am now locked out for 30 minutes at a time, and very worried the next time I try and get it wrong all my data will be wiped.
Can I back up my contacts/data on to my PC despite the phone being locked? (Am at work right now so can't check for myself)
Great phone but this is unacceptable
2 Options:
1) don't lock your phones with a pin code
2) flash a cooked Rom as they have been more stable based on feedback that I have been reading.

The problem is I have to have my phone hooked up with my work email/calendar etc and for some reason it insists on a pin
Sorry but - what does "flash a cooked rom" mean?
Thanks
Sam
oh and soft resets haven't worked here either

How to flash a cooked ROM:
Step 1:
Read the first page <<HERE>>..
Step 2:
Then select a cooked Rom From <<HERE>> in the list where it says [ROM]. Read <<THIS>> for more guidance. But it's not necessary to read it because if you go BACK TO STEP 1 there is also a video that shows you what to do with the ROM FILE after you have downloaded it. REREAD STEP 1 when you have everything in place as it's that simple. Make sure your read the WHOLE PAGE OF STEP 1 before you begin and even during the process there is TROUBLE SHOOTING DETAILS THAT ARE IMPORTANT.
thanks band27
I've had to hard reset and because I couldnt connect my phone because it was locked I'm not been able to back up some bits.
Reading elsewhere it appears like a WM 6.5 problem. absolutely pathetic, but why htc hasnt sorted it as well is quite a disgrace.
i've decided not to get my work emails back on my device so i don't need a pin, its my own mobile anyway so they can take a walk!
password dissapear
hi.
i have had some experience of passwords dissapearing so each time i use one of any of my 3 email accounts on the hd2 it requred me to re-enter my password.
the same thing logging into latitude on google maps
i figured out i can repeat the fault every time by installing swipe keyboard, or un-installing it !!
dont even know if this is the real reason it happens but it works ( or fails ) each time and i tried it on a few different roms now !
=====PEACE=====
i have the same problem and i have been tring to unlock phone after restart and it keep saying incorrect pin and im locked out.
Not recognizing my pin (again)
I bought the HTC HD2 end of january. Nice phone. But after 1 week it didn't recognize my pin anymore. Fortunately the shop where I bought it, has a '14 days not happy with the phone get another one'-policy. So I gat another HTC HD2. Had to install everything again and lost everything I had stored on the other phone. But the new phone worked !
Till yesterday evening. Again the HTC HD2 didn't recognize my pin
I tried to install the ROM-update. But that doesn't work, because you have to unlock the phone for that (otherwise there's no connection between my phone and my computer). Also tried the hard reset. Nothing works.
I hope someone has a solution for me. Cause I'm really getting tired of this.
i don't know, i unlock my sim pin since my first phone, my e-mail accounts are working fine, i don't have any of these problems so far, i bought mine january
This has happened to me a few times where a soft reset worked and once where it didn't (lost all data). Each time it was first thing in the morning and my alarm didn't work. That was on 1.48, since going 1.66 I haven't had either problem occur and it's been almost a month.
J
Which PIN is this? The phone lock or the SIM PIN?
If it's the phone lock, can it be disabled by de-selecting it. This would be a horrible thing to happen if it couldn't be disabled.
i had a big problem with my HD2, I was in the bath and I dropped it of course it got wet but now that blasted crappy stock htc software thingy won't even switch on.....
Next time i'll flash a cooked rom.
Whatever you do, don't use a pattern to unlock, my friend was messing around trying to guess it, i didn't mind because i know my username and password, however it doesn't even let me attempt it, it just says its invalid the second i enter it.
Now i have to hard reset.
I also found out this has been a problem with android for 2 years !

This i am aware of, But stupid thing is it will always say that its invalid, so i googled it because i thought i was going insane and it turns out the problem is wise spread with no other fix than a hard reset,

When I got my N1 I deliberately checked what happened if you got the unlock wrong, after a few attempts it locks for 30 seconds, after several more it offers to let you login by google username/password instead, but you can still log in with the swipe pattern if you know it. I have let people try to use the swipe pattern when they've said "that's easy I know your pattern" and they've never unlocked it, and never forced me to hard reset either ...
This is and has been a standing problem for all android devices... so far there are a few work arounds for older devices, but I don't know about the N1.
I've had this occur and I had to hard reset as a result.
Here's an issue page: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4784
i was able to fix this on my droid.
pm me for a link, or gmail me (probably quicker)

Hey Guys,
Last night I was using the phone when the battery gave out. I plugged it in and charged and this morning, went to use it. I put in my 4 digit password but the phone tells ne its incorrect. Its definately the right one but now I'm locked out of my phone.
Anyone have any suggestions other than the obvious reflash? Any ideas how this could have happened?
TIA

Try the factory password, 1234 or 0000...Tj
Happened to me too 3 times
I had to do a hard reset.. are you using the old or the new ROM?
It happened to me 3 times after that I just use the s2u2 lock, no so secure but it saves me a hard reset.
Very annoying problem.
let us know if you find a solution.

I remember being told not to set the password lock on a 6.5.3 build once (that's the "new" beta branch). You think this still holds true?

I think a hard reset might be in your future. There is not really a way around the password, that the whole point. If you are 100% sure its the right password, then you are probably locked out for good.
make sure to remove the sd card before the auto hard reset. it gets formatted. i learned the hard way.
Thanks all for the pearls of wisdom. I had no choice but to do the hard reset. Its a real pain in the backside. I absolutely love this phone but I dont think it was ready for primetime.
FWIW, I'm running the latest TMOUS Official Rom with very little in the way of tweaks, etc.
It just happened to me for the second time. As I sync with Exchange 2007, I am forced to use a password. This time, I did take out the SD card!
Thank goodness for SPB Backup!
Hey guys.
On the HTC i have set up a 4 Digit Pin, so that no one can just grab my phone and use it while i am at work, and its been working great for the last few months, but today all of a sudden, when i press the unlock on the screen the button only works about 20% of the time and when the unlock button is pressed it throws back that my password is wrong. I know the password is right as its my date of birth...
Any ideas on how to unlock this thing?

If you can't unloc anymore, I'm afraid you need a hard-reset.
but off-toppic, way using your date of birth? I mean mostly your colleges known this! No?
Ow, ps welcome on xda.
If you keep trying and it still says incorrect then reset it....
But have you done any software changes? you installed something or removed anything before this happen?
No one knows my date of birth, and its not something that is discussed at work.
No new software has been installed or change.
It just started doing this last night and i thought id do an extended power cycle to fix it.. but it turns out its an issue with windows mobile.. no more phone locks for me. Ive lost so much personal data from doing a hard reset. i am just hoping i can recover some stuff off the memory card from when i did a pim back up a few months ago.

WOW that sucks... I know how you feel... I gotten into the habit of backing up everything when i get the chance now...
If you haven't already Start using "Microsoft MyPhone" ... You need a Live Account but it backs up Text Contacts Calender photos videos.. bunch of stuff
I know the feeling of losing contact number/sms/...
In the earlier state I used also a lock combination (thinking it's save) but unfortunate I have had the same experience like you, so from that moment I don't use it anymore.
hope you can restore a lot.
tray to make on regular base updates, Microsoft MyPhone is a good solution.
well on the bright side i am taking this chance to update the rom because ive lost everything anyway..
hopefully i can retrieve everyones contact numbers, specially my gf's lol.

Hi,
So today I changed the pin for my mom's phone and the completely forgot it.
She has a lot of Photos on the phone that she wants to keep, but she has not turned on the backup to google photos option
Is there a way to unlock the phone or recover the photos ?
I have entered the wrong pin multiple times and I still cant see the forgot password option.
Pls help or else mom will kill me.
I hope there is no solution because it would be big security problem.
Your mother maybe using google photos cloud so dont be worry
This poses a security risk for those who lost their phones, so I hope there's no easy way around it.
RIP OP
I also hope there isn't a remedy. I don't mean to sound negative and not help but look at it from our side.
I once had a phone that needed a pin to unlock after being fully booted. Was able to go into recovery without it though.
But on 6t I think the pin encrypts the partition, so no way of bypassing it.
[irony] Maybe tell some intelligence agency that there is terrorist evidence on the phone, see if they have a "special key". [/irony]

Get your plot ready then.
You have to format data.
Hopefully you can remember the password or pin.
There is far to many security measures in place
you could by having USB debugging on don't know if it's against rules to tell you or just have them email you don't they still email the password to email reg. on phone
There is simply NO way to access the contents without the encryption key. No app from google that claims it can, not google, not even the NSA or anyone but the key holder can. Trust me, you messed up and there is no other way but to remember what it was or completedly reset the phone. After you reset you will be asked password for the account that was last used there. not worth even trying mate.
I wouldnt normally try to help in a situation regarding security but check out this link: Bypass lock screen PIN all One Plus Devices! Might help!
Good luck and let us know how it turns out :highfive:

Not really for 6T. File Based Encryption that's used by OnePlus doesn't help here either. There may be a way for OnePlus 6 tho since it uses a different key to sign its boot image.
It may be possible to change current password by using Google Find My Device (https://www.google.com/android/find), but i haven't used it for a long time so i'm not sure at this point.
