Bought my Hd2 from Mobiles.co.uk; it is on vodafone but is unlocked and comes shipped with the 1.48 ROM
I would like to upgrade to 1.66 but don't know if that would void my warranty.
I have emailed a few times to ask but no reply [they reply swiftly to other questions!].
Never used this company before so have no idea on this matter.
Thanks

If the 1.66 is shipped ROM and you can update with no errors then you ok. No worries. Any way you always can return to your 1.48.
sorry what do you mean when you say "if the 1.66 is shipped ROM"?
It shipped to me with 1.48....

Shipped are official developed from HTC. Not custom roms made by Xda user for example.
Ah. Okay thanks
you will be fine so long as the updated rom doesn't require hspl or gold card to instal. assuming you simply put your serial into the htc website, and download the rom and instal it, no problem.
besides, it's easy to downgrade back to where you started.
Wigwam,
By Shipped Rom he means an official ROM on the HTC website. If you use that then you will NOT void your warranty.
Are you running a standard rom or a customised rom by Vodafone? If the former then fine, if the latter then you might want to find a copy of the original rom as a backup jut in case you have to return the phone as, say, faulty, with the original rom on.
WB
Thanks guys. I understand standard phones direct from Voda ONLY ship with the 1.43 rom. I have no voda splash screen/branding etc and the only thing voda-branded is a folder when I click the windows button.
I am assuming I am going to lose this folder when I do the upgrade [not sure what use it will be to me as my SIM is still inactive so not actually able to use my new phone as a phone yet hence I do't know if I will need anything in this folder lol!]

Dear XDA-Community
I've a HTC Touch HD Orange UK With the 1.19.61.1 WWE original ROM
Flashing and such things are not the problem.
But what is if I need the Warranty?
Then I have to flash the original Oranke UK Rom, right?
I've read much about dumping and cooking, that I can backup my Rom with this.
And there is my Question:
What is if I flash my self Dumped Orange UK ROM. Do I need USPL od HardSPL for this? I think not, because its a Original ROM.
Because, if I need USPL or HardSPL, then HTC could find out that I've flashed my phone and I get no Warranty, right?
Sry if the answere for my Question is somewhere in the Board, but my English is not the best, and I didn't find a answere in other threads about this.
I only want a method, to flash a original Orange 1.19.61.1 ROM for Warranty issues, so that my phone is like I buyed it. And HTC didn't find out that I've flashed other ROMS
Thanks
Terrorhuhn
I think if you have a non-official Orange ROM then they might not support a warranty claim.
So, if you need to return the device then you should flash to an official Orange ROM first.
And how could I get an official-Orange Rom?

I'm confused, sorry. If you bought your phone from Orange then return it to Orange with the original ROM.
If you have a WWE ROM then you got the phone from someone else (who?) and that is the company you should return the phone to.
Here you can see the official shipped ROMs:

also a reminder that orange do not check there mother board they simply replace them i have this on goosd authority as i once asked them if i can flash an offial samsung rom to the omnia obver there branded (heavily) version they sed it not possible to do
so anyway after 10 mintues i had done what i wanted (no thanks to tech support)
i asked if doing this would destroy my insurance they said the firmwares arent checked.
mind you ive just been given a replacement hd with an unbranded (HTC) rom
1.14

Can someone verify this? I am stuck with Orange ROM. Dying to try out beautiful works ( By Dutty and others ) but afraid of warranty issues.I'm also gonna need HSPL. it will be great if there will be no issues while returning HD, in case.
Thanks ahead
Thanks for the answeres.
I didn't find a Orange UK 1.19.61.1 rom (i mean non-dumped versions), only the Orange UK 1.14.405.3.
But
I've read, that some people with the same Orange UK 1.19.61.1 Firmware sended their Touch HD for warranty, and got the Phone back with the Orange UK 1.14.405.3 ROM.
That means, if there is an warranty issue, I can use the downloadable shipped orange uk Rom (1.14.405.3).
So my problem is solved!
thanks

Yes, I can confirm this. I returned a device due to it being faulty and they replaced it even though I did not have original ROM on phone!
but remember whan they sent the replacememtn it was a WWE bot the orange 1.14 i then flashed duttiies
I'm on Vodafone UK and the HTC UK ROM upgrade thats just been released, when I put my serial in says it not for my device, I have checked with Vodafone and they say my phone has a custom ROM and I will void my contract/warranty if I use anything but a Vodafone approved ROM upgrade but they have no date or idea if they will release one !!!!!!!
H alan..
I was under the assumption that the phone was locked to the provicer (vodafone).
Meaning that you only could upgrade to and from a vodafone rom.
The customer service told you that you where using a "custom" rom.
And that is not entirely true. But it is true that you have to "hack" the phone to get other roms working on it.
If you Have issues. And need the warranty.
Contact http://www.eurotwice.be/
This is the main tech/repaircenter that HTC is using.

Well, if you start flashing other roms it usually breaks warranty yeah. If you need warranty though for an issue and the phone is still working you can usually flash back the stock rom and they shouldn't have a problem.
Did it that way with the HTC Touch Pro, flashed tons of custom roms and hspl. Once needed warranty for the keyboard, flashed back stock rom and hspl and all was fine.
It still IS risky though, if your phone is bricked you're usually screwed... And if they somehow find out they DO have the right to refuse warranty.
In another post someone quoted from the T&C's and it excluded official updates from the manufacturer, i.e. download the rom upgrade from HTC (assuming it works with locked voda) you are ok! Downloading cooked roms is bad! Though if you are able to restore to a stock ROM they won't be able to tell

Direct from Vodafone
Change your serial if you want to download the ROM from HTC UK support site:
for Vodafone devices the serial number will be something like:
HT9Bxxxxxxxx
Change the bx part to AZ and it will let you download the WWE UK rom.
Bear in mind that this WILL void your warranty with Vodafone but NOT with HTC.
Hi
Sorry if this is a newb question and I've missed something obvious.
I'd like to upgrade an O2 branded hd2 to the generic latest ROM using the goldcard method described here. I understand this invalidates the warranty.
Is there any way of restoring the phone to its original state to circumvent this?
Thanks.
I would like to know this as well as im thinking of sending back my HD2 to o2 but cant as ive upgraded to 1.48.
Or is it worth sending back as it is now and then play dumb if they contact me to tell me its not got the original stock rom?
im with T-Mobile and upgrade it on ROM: 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE - Radio: 2.05.51.05_2 last weeks and never had any prob yet and sim card works fine
Dump your ROM before upgrading. For how to do that search on the forum.
I'm also with O2, & they told me that as long as the ROM is an official one from the HTC website this won't invalidate your warranty
Not sure what the policy is with T-Mobile though
I did find a O2 rom on here somewhere, cant remember where, I havent used it yet, but im uploading it to rapidshare now and will provide a link. So if anything does go wrong you can just flash back to the O2 rom to be on the safe side.
I have returned a phone to O2 before that was HSPLed and they never said anything, but they sent out a new phone and picked up the old one at the same time.
O2 Rom...

plz help
thank you
you have used the wrong rom. you need to find an original rom for your region and provider. (example if your phone is german and vodafone then you need the vodafone german rom)
once you find the correct rom do what you did last time and it will start.

oh in that case it is easy.
go to rom development section, find the "leo official roms" thread, look in first post first link.the rom you need says o2 in the name.
if you are trying to downgrade so you can put hspl on your phone look in the 1.43 folder)
there isn't an O2 1.48 ROM in the 4Shared folder, only their 1.43 one
o2 uk have only released one rom. no 1.48, no 1.66, only 1.43...are you sure your phone is an actual o2 phone? did you buy outright from o2? car phone warehouse perhaps?

i just bought the phone on ebay and it was already 1.66 he said he done this update thru htc and he says he got it on carphone wherehouse but im using an 02 sim not sure if its simlocked
does this help
thanks
OK, so it isn't an o2 locked rom. It should be a wwe one.
personally i would try this
http://www.4shared.com/account/file..._WWE_1434051_Radio_.html?sId=wJvHvpUN96nuOQU8
rom first
That is the 1.43 wwe rom. download, extract the ruu_signed.nbh, copy to sd card, reboot into bootloader, if it flashes, all good. You can then instal hspl, and flash any rom you like BY USB.
Sim lock is nothing to do with rom lock.
Excuse my maybe silly question but...
Why would we want to downgrade the ROM version??
(Beside of the need to send it to the repair of course)

so that you can instal HSPL and flash other roms. (HSPL needs SPL 1.42 or it wont instal)
Hi there,
I have an HD2 on O2 with the O2 1.43.206.4 ROM and was debating updating it to the newer ROM off the HTC site.
I was wondering the main benefits + also if Microsoft app place will download my apps again for free if it wipes them?
Also does it invalidate O2's warranty, or do you just go to HTC directly if you have a problem?
Cheers, Mark.
Marketplace purchase history stays on the website so you should be alright. I've installed htc's 1.66 rom from t-mobiles stock rom, then had to reinstall the stock rom back the other day as my phone wouldn't switch back on. Am now back on 1.66 again, so going back and forth is no problem.
yup your purchases are binded to your account. Btw i guess the reason you should upgrade is: almost everyone on XDA has 1.66, its more stable and it will be easier for other people to help you as they have 1.66 aswell (if they're using stock of course)

pretty sure it voids the o2 warranty as it isnt off the o2 site. i would check with someone in store before doing so.
If it's O2 locked you can't even use the one off the HTC site as it's vendor locked
