HD2 unable to display Chinese PDF - HD2 General

I have some Chinese Wu Xia PDfs that play fine on my PC with Adober Reader 9 (it automatically download the fonts). When I transfered a few PDFs to the HD2 and tried to display them sing Adobe Reader Mobile LE, it just shows a bunch of blank (white) pages. No words are displayed. Can someone give me a suggestion?
My HD2 can display chinese words as I have a couple Excel spreadsheets with Chinese words in some columns that can be displayed fine in Office mobile.

I believe the problem you are facing is that Adobe does not always use fonts that come from Microsoft.
When I have updated my computer to a new operating system, I often find that Adobe cannot open a Chinese PDF without updating fonts. My Microsoft operating system could already display Chinese in Office and in web pages.
Adobe products are proprietary, and do not always make use of system resources. This is precisely why a PDF is able to be viewed in various operating systems, but it means you have to download more from Adobe to view certain languages.
It seems that the best way to solve your problem is to go to the Adobe site and look for information. If you cannot find any information, send an email to them. This Adobe PDF help file might give you some ideas.
Since you cannot see Chinese in a PDF file, it is fairly obvious that you do not have the required fonts on your HD2.
I hope that somehow this helps you.

Thanks, but not much help at this point.
I searched through the Adobe site and only found Chinese font pack for Adobe Reader 8/9. No such luck with Adobe Reader LE 2.5
Tried some PDF to Word convertion web service sites but they can't seem to convert as well.
Does ANYONE here read chinese PDF file in their HD2? Please help

Still no replies :-(
Can anyone suggest a way to download the Chinese font packs for Adobe Reader LE on the HTC devices? Thanks.

Is it possible to take the fonts from adobe 9 and then transfer them to the HD2...?? kinda like copying the fonts from windows and puting them on the hd2...

Don't use manhua2009
A few days ago i tried manhua2009 for Chinese writing om my hd2
but don't try to do the same ,, got a stuck hd2 and had to hardreset
to get it working again... !!! so don't ....
Cheers

Yes I can.
I have two reader. The Adobe Reader 2.0 for WM2003 (downloaded from Adobe site), and the Adobe Reader LE 2.5 that came with my HD2. The downloaded Adobe Reader 2.0 for WM2003 cannot display a PDF with Chinese (Big5 I presume). The bundled Adobe Reader LE 2.5 can, probably because I bought it in HK.
Also, I copied the whole resources folder from my desktop Adobe Reader 10 to the downloaded Adobe Reader 2.0 for WM2003. The error messages changed, but still it cannot display Chinese PDF.
And I can't find any resource files for the Adobe LE.

I read a lot of PDFs on my phone and found that Adobe doesn't quite do the job. I did some searching and found Foxit to be quite good. Not sure if it will help you in this case, but worth a try.

What file in Extended rom i can have Program ClearVue PDf

After Unlock EXTRom i deleted all file in EXTR so when i did HardReset i can not fin out this file. i think it is from a file in EXTR, but i dont know. Any one has that experience please let me an advice/ TU
Not exactly sure if I understand your question.. but,.. you can always install the Adobe PPC PDF reader from here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforppc.html
my experience has been that the adobe PDF reader is easier to read because of the reflow mode. however if you want to print PDF's the cleavue reader is the only way to go (assuming you have westtek JetCet printer software). now i haven't got my JasJar yet, so i don't know if the adobe reader works in VGA mode, or if the PDF reader is easier to use wit the VGA mode; but i've used cleavue/adobe for several years on 320x240 pocketpcs and smartphones.

Make Adobe Reader default PDF viewer?

Can anyone tell me the registry tweaks to make Adobe the default reader for PDF files in WM 5?
To read a PDF in Adobe, I have to open the Adobe Reader and open the file. If I just click on a PDF now, it opens in that useless ClearView program that comes with WM 5.
I want to open PDFs in Adobe just by clicking on them, the way I open Word and Excel files. Can that be done in WM 5? If so, how?
Never mind !
Found the problem. HKCR\pdffile\shell\opendoc has to be set to the same value as HKCR\pdffile\shell\open. The Adobe reader updates everything except "opendoc" when it installs.

Yeah I agree, ClearVue is worthless. All I did was go into the registry and remove the command for ClearVue (Westek) without removing the program itself. Just highlight and backspace the command, click OK, soft re-set and all pdf files opened will be read by your Adobe reader. You may want to write down the command line in case you want it back later. After I did this, Foxit reader became my default. Is there an OTA cab file for the adobe reader that can be installed directly to my 8125? I've tried several websites, but have not been able to install this directly.
Thanks. It's nice to be able to just click on PDFs and have them open in Adobe now. The pocket version has a nifty word-wrap feature that does a good job of making PDFs readable on a small screen.
Haven't seen a cab-install version. The one I use is an exe that installs itself to the 8125 from the PC desktop:

Help Needed please...
I have exactly the same problem as posted by kidlockatong but dont know how to do a registry tweak. I have downloaded "Total Commander" whch I believe can do the tweak. Can some one guide me through the tweaking process ....
Thanks a lot

PDF Reader

Does anybody know of a good PDF reader that works on the X1, or Windows mobile in general?
Adobe Reader LE works fine.
I neglected to mention that I would prefer something free. I searched for adobe reader LE, and was directed from the adobe site to one where I could purchase the program for 15.00$. I didnt even see the X1 or Windows mobile listed as supported devices or platforms, but I'll take your word for it. So am I looking at the wrong thing or something, maybe?
If not, then I could still use another solution
huh? It's free from adobe....go here:

are there any better good performing free finger friendly pdf readers

Adobe Reader LE comes with the Xperia. Reformat your phone, you must have uninstalled it.
try this bro http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/mobile/index.htm=
foxit is better than adobe on windows. haven't tried their mobile version though
double post
FoxIt is a great PDF reader, the only one I use. You have to pay, but worth it if you read regularly.

Adobe Reader LE won't read this PDF - just my phone or everyone's?

Here's a simple PDF map of the London Underground, about 200K:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf
Loads fine on a PC, but when I try and view it on my HD2 using Adobe Reader LE, it doesn't load correctly - I just get a grey screen and no image.
Am I doing something wrong?
Same here mate. That's a bit crap really isn't it!
I just tried opening the pdf on the link above. Doesn't open on my mobile either. However I have succeeded in opening loads of pdf files since I bought the hd2.
Just tried other pdf files a couple of minutes ago and no problems. Looks like the underground map pdf is not 'healthy'... try another location if there is one.
That PDF opens but is damaged, acrobat repairs it as it opens it. I assume the HD2 can't repair it.
Try opening it on your pc, then saving it down with a different name, see if that works.

Acrobat Reader 9 didn't try to correct it on my PC. Perhaps it's using a more recent pdf format than Reader LE supports?
I just did a test, opened it up and saved it down directly with new file name and now opens perfectly on my HD2

Very, I am on a Mac at the moment as I am at work but it shouldn't make any difference.
If you PM me an e-mail address I can send you the working PDF to see if it works ok on yours
We need an app to do this. Opening PDFs for a tube map is old skool LOL.
I had to open it and reprint to my pdf writer to get it to open.
Here it is working on HD2:

Think it was just a poorly saved PDF, a one off. Hopefully
Is anyone using an alternative to adobe reader LE? because i hate that it cannot go to FULL SCREEN without those tool bars on the bottom. [email protected]!
bump. 10o char.
Is there anyway to get rid of the scroll bar on the side of Adobe LE? FULL-FULL screen please?
Try these!

+1 foxit is awesome, best pdf reader on PC and WM.
I like Microsoft Reader and Mobipocket on the HD2.
Callibre on the PC works great for format conversion.
Microsoft's Reader is awful! Haven't tried Foxit or the others but the B&N one is pretty poor, and I use eReader.com's reader daily, does everything I want and more. Too bad they got bought by B&N, but they seem to still be operating. I wish B&N would spend some development $ on it's reader for PocketPC, it really stinks right now. Formatting is whacked, no themes, limited font support, and worst is that .epub format that nobody seems to support. Fortunately if you buy a book on B&N you can go to their web site and download it directly and get the .pdb version, which you can then open on eReader just dandy!

I'll give it a try.
What is the best format for ereader...Epub? (I see the pdb, but I cannot imagine that is the only format it takes)
ETA: I take it back. I see that Pdb is the format for this. Never used it.
The best reader I have found is Freda. It's free (I made a donation) and supports a bunch of formats. If you Google "decrypt B&N epub" you will find there are some ways to get Freda to read the encrypted files.

On the desktop PC, I agree. I use Foxit, much better than Adobe.
On the WM phone, I beg to differ. I haven't yet tried it on the HD2, but have on other WM devices, and did not like the mobile version of Foxit Reader.
I think the new version of Adobe Reader for WM, that we get for free on the HD2 (unlike past versions, and unlike the desktop version, this current version of Adobe Reader for WM is not free, they charge for it, yet we get it for free. Thanks HTC!), works quite well. I wouldn't change from it to use Foxit Reader on the HD2, although I certainly prefer Foxit on the desktop.
Freda for the reader
Calibre for the conversion software
After that, put it anywherre on your phone and point Freda to it. Calibre smoothly converts pdf files.
The new version of the B&N eReader is out! Downloading it now!
If you want to avoid the horrible download speeds from the direct download here's the URL it uses:
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/PResources/download/WinMo/BNeReader_1.1.0.22.CAB
After using it for a short time I can say it's way better, doesn't munge the database when you try to do multiple actions at once (multiple downloads, or download while it's syncing) but there are still issues, especially with themes. There doesn't seem to be a way to delete a theme you create, and when I created a white on black theme it looks like the text is all black background with white text but the rest of the page is still white! It looks awful!
Hopefully this means they have a developer working with them on this and it won't be the last version, it'll get more attention.
"New" B&N Reader Version Still Is Limited
Version 1.1.0.22 still will not recognize older PDB formatted books, and I can't get it to recognize any PDF files I load.
