Does anybody know of a good PDF reader that works on the X1, or Windows mobile in general?
Adobe Reader LE works fine.
I neglected to mention that I would prefer something free. I searched for adobe reader LE, and was directed from the adobe site to one where I could purchase the program for 15.00$. I didnt even see the X1 or Windows mobile listed as supported devices or platforms, but I'll take your word for it. So am I looking at the wrong thing or something, maybe?
If not, then I could still use another solution
huh? It's free from adobe....go here:

Adobe Reader LE comes with the Xperia. Reformat your phone, you must have uninstalled it.
try this bro http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/mobile/index.htm=
foxit is better than adobe on windows. haven't tried their mobile version though
double post
FoxIt is a great PDF reader, the only one I use. You have to pay, but worth it if you read regularly.

I need to print PDF's to a bluetooth printer...i have tried printboy but it reformats my document and it is essentially unuseable...i tried clearview and the PDF is not visible unless I bring it into active sync first to allow it to create tags on the PDF.
Adobe Reader 2.0 for Pocket PC. I can view the document but the print button it greyed. What gives?
I would be fine with IR printing but it fails every time I fire a document.
Oh I have the Verizon 6700 version of the Wizard.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help I have been searching on and off for a week and it is driving me insane....
did you try following program?
JETCET PRINT
http://www.westtek.com/pocketpc/jetcet/
Yes i tried that software. I also tried it along with the Clearvue Pro. When I try to view the PDF in Clearvue it is blank. If I bring the same PDF in via Active Sync then it mentions that the PDF is untagged and if I would like it to attempt to tag. Once I run it through this I can see it and print.
The problem with this is that people in the field will be using this and they wont have access to Active Sync. They have to download the PDF and print on the fly.
Did you try using the adobe ppc pdf reader instead of clearvue? I think it is free. Also I think HP has some printer software/drivers. Dont know if it will work but worth a try.
Yes, I have tried Adobe Acrobat also the print button is greyed. I am trying to figure out how to activate it and have been on ADOBE's site in the forums but no one seems to know...also I tried to get the HP drivers but cant find them anymore. They say something on the site about discontinuing the drivers after Oct of 2005 or something.
If anyone has an idea how I can ungrey that print button or get the HP drivers it would be great. I can view my PDF perfect in ADOBE I just cant print.
Thanks again i really apreciate any help and I really need to get this working!
here is a link to download the hp mobile printing 4.0
http://www.pocket4you.com/freeware/index.php?vypis=jedno&id=199
Hope it works for you.
Great! I am downloading now. Thanks a million I will let you know how it works out!
hp mobile printing won't work because you're running WM5.
You may want to try this. It's expensive, but it may work for you. It has a 15 day trial period too.

Ok well I installed it but it doesn't seem to install properly. It gives me an error that it may not work properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile. I am of course using Windows Mobile 5.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Any idea how I can get the "Print" button in ADOBE Reader for Pocket PC 2.0 active?
Weatheryoko,
I tried the bachmansoftware solution it is what I called Printboy. It does actually print but the problem is that its sends it somewhere forst where it converts the PDF. When it comes back down and I print it it completely reformats it all out of sequence. It doesn't "Paint" the way I had the report layed out...
I sent them an email this morning to ask them if they could pint me in the right direction as to how it performs this conversion and maybe that will give me insite on how to re-write my report so that the conversion wouldn't affect the content layout so drastically.
Haven't gotten any feedback as of yet from them

On the adobe site it says it works with bluetooth hp printers. Did you try to turn the bluetooth on the wizard on and pair it to the printer? Maybe you can pair the printer and phone using jetcet? Anyways these are some suggestions to try if you already havent. Good luck.
Yeah actually the funny thing is that I am using an HP 450 bluetooth printer...I can the jetcet application comes bundled with Clearvue professional (thats the only way it will print PDF as jetcet by itself doesnt see the PDF's) problem is when I open the PDF in Clearvue it looks blank...
I think it has to do with the fact it is an untagged PDF...
If i take the same PDF and bring it into the handheld using Active Sync it is tagged I can see it and print it...
It is super irritating that Microsoft didn't build native printing functionality into Windows Mobile to begin with...
I am still struggling with this...
using clearvue - = crap!
any offers?
try the free adobe reader
it ll read any pdf u throw at it(but takes >7mb)

Never had any problems with this one. Got it installed on SD card rather than internal memory but works just fine.

it's better, but not that great either. very bloated and crashes often. is fast though.
i personally like Ansyr Primer, which is no longer sold. a little slow in rendering, but doesn't crash as often as the adobe and less memory hungry. you can also add annotations and bookmarks. it doesn't do tagged files like the adobe reader, which is one good things going for it.
I don't know why there is so little development in producing good pdf readers.
in any case, using pdfs a lot, i keep them all, and find them useful for different types of documents.
with Primer, you have to apply a vga aware patch, from something like tweaks 2k2, if you have a vga machine. I bought my copy a while ago. if nobody is selling it, i've checked and noted other sources do have it.
PocketXPDF
http://pocketxpdf.sourceforge.net/
I find it the best one.
Renders pages in real VGA.
best regards,

just for the record - the adobe ppc pdf reader sux.
it lasted 2 hours on my rig.
trying sourceforge jobbie now . . .
Try `foxit' pdf reader which has just released for ppc ,the evaluation purpose .( just reminds it and there no limit of days as i have neen using it for so many number of days) the best or the worst part is that it runs from itself , installs no files on windows folder . it is one single file(1.25 mb) transferred via active sync to the storage card then add to today screen via pocket plus and then through resco explre make it the default program to view pdf files

Use this one all the time.
Putting into full screen landscape allows half of a full page to be easily readable.
Only down side is the delay in waiting for the next page to load - hopefully this will be fixed in a later version
Matt
Hey matt.
you're only bloody right!
this is a good reader guys.
nice rendering, i think a little better than clearvue and certainly the pile of elephant turd that is the adobe reader - that was just embarrassing!

Please please please someone help
thanks

Many Many thanks
Many Many thanks
You are a life saver !
Steve
it takes bloody ages to load initially and the page load times is fairly crap but full screen and programmable h/ware buttons makes it kewl.
as i said before the rendering is pretty wicked too!
WOW!!!! Just installed PocketXPDF and it has got to be the best PPC PDF reader available. Rendering the pages does take a while but at least it is worth the wait.
Thanks for sharing that with us.
Adobe?
I tried my pdf book which has 2700 pages in my JASJAR with Adobe reader,it nicely tagged it for viewing in "reflow mode" (text wraps around to fit the screen) so that we need not scroll it horizontally even after zooming.
Wow! how nicely Adobe did it and I could read the book continously in reflow mode with zoom.I think NO Other pdf reader can do this.Even 'Repligo',I tried same book with Repligo pdf mobilizer, still no reflowing.
Adobe reader is the Best pdf reader without any doubt, but it has its own drawbacks like: Very bulky, freezes ur PPC if not used for sometime(after opening). No official compatibility for WM5 devices.
If the size of the file is small, any reader would do.But bigger files, reflow mode Adobe is jus Gr8!
Acrobat reader has been working great for me for the past two years.
it just depends on the following question:
- do you use a realVGA 'hack'?
if yes:
use acrobat reader
if no:
use pocketXPDF reader
because you really want VGA instead of qVGA. and reflow is a really big plus for acrobat imo

RE
I believe non of the mentioned readers can do the followings completely
a) must have scrolling feature (available in Adobe Reader)
b) text and picture must be sharp (apply to all readers except Adobe)
c) small in size (definitely not for Adobe Reader)
Any?
hi guys!
what's the best feeds reader?
I prefer browser-based Google Reader. Otherwise I would recommend Spb Insight (it downloads whole articles instead of just a perex).
If you need something that can work offline, I recommend pRssReader, its development ceased but it has caching, google reader sync and everything. But I use iphone web version of google reader from opera.
best rss reader
Having worked with several rss readers such as p rss reader , google reader , newsgate , yomumedia , prpnews , sbp insight ....... and others...... , I can say with confident that the original pre installed rss reader on htc touch hd (rss hub) is the best. It has the most strongest search function among all others and infact very far ahead of them.
-google reader is a very good in mobile format ,but it doesn't update automaticly ! and this is a great shame for any rss reader .also there is no search function.
-others also havnot any viable search ,so you have to be content with some limited news channels.
-p rss reader recently is blocked by some sort of google code bars ,so it's almost out of use !
-smart rss reader is a java-jar application and very slow .
-Ova rss reader is a java app. too ,with limited channels and tiny font (a universal problem with java on mobiles ! ).
So .....Thanks htc folks for their great job .s
Have a good time !
I like Egress
pRSS reader blew up on me and wouldn't update. I tried reinstalling, etc. I couldn't identify the problem, nor did I feel enclined to take the time to figure it out. So I started trying some others. Egress was the least expensive but still provided professional results and low mem usage. It's readable offline and allows external card storage.
With stuff like this, though, a lot of your choice depends on preference. The most popular ones seem to be Pocket Insight (pricey as compared to Egress), and Google Reader (online/no auto-update).
For me personally, I use and love NewsBreak. It is a pay program but it is worth it.

You dont get that freezing bug on newbreak/rss hub - its been there for years. illum says its just a windows mobile 6 issue - its annoying as hell.
I don't even know of this bug you speak of, honestly. I use it everyday and I have yet to run into any real issues.

what? that is one of the stupidest thing I've heard from a dev company. it is one thing and one thing only, they are lazy lazy lazy.....when was the last time they actually updated the program? if its a windows mobile 6 issue, why doesn't all the rest freeze in the same way?
I use RSS Hub. I was searching for a beter rss reader the other day, well it doesn't have to be better, just more visually apealing but I didn't find any so sticked with RSS hub.
re-iterating aidinali's point, that search function is nice
I know the THD has Adobe Reader LTE on it, is there anything better for viewing PDF files.

What's wrong with Adobe LE? Have you tried using Adobe LE's "reflow" function? Head to the registry HKCU\Software\Adobe\AdobeReaderLE 2.5\ and change the value of "EnableReflow" to 1. Restart Adobe and now you can "reflow" the text from tools->view.
I don't think any other pdf-viewer has this feature, which makes Adobe LE by far the best reader IMHO.
try fox-It reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/mobile/wm_ppc.htm
I don't want to start the same old discussion here.. But
Adobe Reader LE is
a)Faster
b)Better resolution.
c)Has better Reflow.
d)Has better memory management.
e)Is free (comes with device)
What more do you need. ??
do a google for mobilexpdfwm6, it gives more detail than adobe for me.

I'm reading an e-book using Adobe Reader LE but there doesn't seem to be any settings whereby I can bookmark the last page I read so that I can return to that page once I reopen the same e-book. Does anyone know how this can be done or if not, whether any other readers has this functionality? Thanks.
Don't know about that functionality, but personally I love Repligo if you can be bothered with the conversion process. Light weight, provides flow mode (yeah, PMS on demand!), and seems to work nicely with large PDFs.

I like PocketXpdf with it's "View text only" feature. However, some PDFs can't be opened

+1 foxit is awesome, best pdf reader on PC and WM.
I like Microsoft Reader and Mobipocket on the HD2.
Callibre on the PC works great for format conversion.
Microsoft's Reader is awful! Haven't tried Foxit or the others but the B&N one is pretty poor, and I use eReader.com's reader daily, does everything I want and more. Too bad they got bought by B&N, but they seem to still be operating. I wish B&N would spend some development $ on it's reader for PocketPC, it really stinks right now. Formatting is whacked, no themes, limited font support, and worst is that .epub format that nobody seems to support. Fortunately if you buy a book on B&N you can go to their web site and download it directly and get the .pdb version, which you can then open on eReader just dandy!

I'll give it a try.
What is the best format for ereader...Epub? (I see the pdb, but I cannot imagine that is the only format it takes)
ETA: I take it back. I see that Pdb is the format for this. Never used it.
The best reader I have found is Freda. It's free (I made a donation) and supports a bunch of formats. If you Google "decrypt B&N epub" you will find there are some ways to get Freda to read the encrypted files.

On the desktop PC, I agree. I use Foxit, much better than Adobe.
On the WM phone, I beg to differ. I haven't yet tried it on the HD2, but have on other WM devices, and did not like the mobile version of Foxit Reader.
I think the new version of Adobe Reader for WM, that we get for free on the HD2 (unlike past versions, and unlike the desktop version, this current version of Adobe Reader for WM is not free, they charge for it, yet we get it for free. Thanks HTC!), works quite well. I wouldn't change from it to use Foxit Reader on the HD2, although I certainly prefer Foxit on the desktop.
Freda for the reader
Calibre for the conversion software
After that, put it anywherre on your phone and point Freda to it. Calibre smoothly converts pdf files.
The new version of the B&N eReader is out! Downloading it now!
If you want to avoid the horrible download speeds from the direct download here's the URL it uses:
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/PResources/download/WinMo/BNeReader_1.1.0.22.CAB
After using it for a short time I can say it's way better, doesn't munge the database when you try to do multiple actions at once (multiple downloads, or download while it's syncing) but there are still issues, especially with themes. There doesn't seem to be a way to delete a theme you create, and when I created a white on black theme it looks like the text is all black background with white text but the rest of the page is still white! It looks awful!
Hopefully this means they have a developer working with them on this and it won't be the last version, it'll get more attention.
"New" B&N Reader Version Still Is Limited
Version 1.1.0.22 still will not recognize older PDB formatted books, and I can't get it to recognize any PDF files I load.
