First off, when you get an attachment it is stored as a .ATT file, as you said, but you don't access it from there. You access it from the email. Open the email and at the top, in the header info, you should have a link to the attachment. If you click it, it downloads it, but that must have already happened since you've got the .ATT file. Click and hold the attachment to get a "save as" option. Just save it somewhere sensible, with a sensible name.
I'm obviously assuming that the .ATT file you mention is the one from the email you're talking about. If it's not, then we've got to start asking questions. Which email account did you use? What kind of attachment was it?

getting email attachments ?

Hi
probably a really simplw question but how do I get the attachments from my emails?
I have been using my wifi when out and about to receive my emails. I get the mails no problem but theres no way I can see to get the attachments. the little attachments symbol is next to em but don't know how to get em
cheers
did'nt think i'd have to reply to me own msg but what the hell!
You realise this is a forum, not a chatboard, AND it's christmas eve right?
Anyway, I tried opening at attachment on one of my emails. Just clicked the link at the bottom of the email to get the full msg + attachments, it said it would get it next time I checked my mail. Since the phone happened to already be checking I waited a bit, and now I'm looking at a .doc file I sent to my school. It's displayed at the top of the email and when I tap it, it opens in word mobile.
So I'm not sure what's not working for you, but maybe this helps?
thanks for the reply mate. nah no msg at the bottom of the email. there is on my isp email but nothing when I get my hotmail on my xda. maybe it's cus its hotmail??
cheers
Ahh... can't help you there then, I don't use hotmail, only gmail (through pop3 access).
no problem mate. thers gotta be a way to view the attachments on hotmail accounts when getting via the xda outlook.
cheers anyway
Hi, just got the AT&T Tilt and I'm searching for a way to view my hotmail attachments... I see the little attachment icon (paperclip) but I cannot open it... anyone have the answer yet?

I have tried it on www.hotmail.com, but I have no idee how it works.
But if you go to start, programs, pocket MSN, MSN Hotmail, then you can enter your hotmailadres en password, en your hotmail account can be checked with pocketoutlook (pre-installed), on your device.
so yeah when i use PIE to go to hotmail.com i cannot download it from there shows what is attached but only in text so using pie to downlaod attachments is a no go
now i loaded and used pocket msn forgot i had that and signed in and clicked on send/receive and boom got it thansk for all the help guys.

No,no you have to click on the file, then you go to "Menu" and press "Send and Receive" and there you go file will download!!!
Just tried that last bit on my AT&T Tilt as I'm also having troubling viewing hotmail attachments... I don't see any such options... I'm assuming that many times of phones operation similar to each other with regard to this subject??? In my email In-Box I see the usual attachment icon ( a paper clip) when I click on that, nothing... if I open the email, it doesn't show. If I open the header, it say's there's an attachment but there's nothing to click on

Move them into a different folder on the server, they will then be removed from your devices inbox

Emails from Exchange dont take up much noticeable space, unless u specified to download the entire message and not only the 1st 2KB/5KB and if u specified to sync ur entire inbox instead of just 1 week or 3 days behind.
Right now i have 370 items all between 1KB and 2KB, thats not more than 600KB total, that size is not even worth thinking about. The beauty of exchange sync is having exactly the same Inbox/Sent/Deleted items in both ur desktop and ur phone.
You can check ur stored message bodies in \Windows\Messaging and see the size. what u can do is check the Attachments if u download large ones u can delete them under \Windows\Messaging\Attachments.
If u still want to do it, there is only Bupahs' suggetion as there is no Delete Local functionality.
thanks for the info. when i go to windows messaging attachments there are a bunch there but i cant open them. should i just delete them?

Those are the actual email bodies, leave them alone im not sure whats the impact if u manually delete the files, besides they dont take up much space, check how many files u have and the average size.
I had the AT&T Tilt 1 (Kaiser) and had it set to sync with my work exchange server. I did find in the settings there, that you could put a check mark in the box for "Leave a copy on the server." (or similar verbage).
HOWEVER on the AT&T Tilt 2 (Rhodium) that option is no where to be found.
It makes me wonder why they would remove that option from both the device & the Sync Settings.

[Q] Problem saving email attachments

hi all, as per title,
i have been sent some pictures into my yahoo accounrt.
i can view them on my phone but there is no option to save them :-(
does anyone have any ideas?
the options and settings are limited as i can see.
i did have an excel file i sent, that opened with quick office and gave me the option to save but then the file contains none of the data on the spreadsheet.
any advice or input would be wonderfuel.
thanks.
mahender.
solved i think
when email picture attachments are donloaded, the phone saves them in the camera folder under 'downloads'
it either also then adds them to 'all pictures'
or
i have had to move them using dual file manager i have installed.
if there is another way then please let me know
i think that it will also save anything from the email. i have deleted them now but there were little facebook banners and my yearbook banners in there too.
i dont really want to download every image from an email just what i choose.
regards
mahender.

Email bug in SGS2 - no attachments

Hello,
Did You know, how to resolve problem like that:
when i receive an e-mail with attachment files, i can't do anything with that.
Standard email client in SGS2, in email did't see this attachment files.
When i make, answer or reply...i can see this files in attachment in edition mode.
What can i do to see this file in my inbox in email which i read.
I see on list, that there is a attachment, but when i open the email, there is no attached docs.
What should i do? What is the best way to resolve problem...
Best regards,
Krzysiek
When you open the mail (the one which actually does have an attachment)
wait for few moments.. depending upon the connection speed and size of attachment
it will take some time if attachment is big and connection slow
just below the subject line...
there will be a clip sign and the number of attachments... on the right of it will be a down arrow.
click the down arrow to expand it and show all the attacments..
each attachment will have a floppy disk sing on its right
you can click it and download attachment
if you wish to forward the mail with attachment you can forward as is...
but if you reply..the attachment doesnt gets attached automatically (makes sense)
in order to reply the sender with the original attachment you need to download /save the attachment on the phone...then attach it back on the reply mail.
it works for me in the standard email client
Thats correct....
Also i think they should include a Reply to all. When you recieve and email with some recipients you can only do a reply to the main person unless you do a copy/ paste.
honestly, i use the Yahoo & Gmail client for my primary mails..checking/replying/sending
The default email client is used for other secondary mails... and only to check mails... sending/replying if required is from MS Outlook
This standard email client in SGS2 is not upto the mark i must say
The problem could be a couple of things. Most likely is in the settings and each email download limit.
Is it a POP/IMAP/Exchange account?
Yes. it's the pop3 account. But now these are old mails, which was downloaded few weeks ago. When email come, i can see attachment, but now, when i open really old mail with attach, i can't see it...
