Note sure what you're talking about. I don't have this problem. When I go into the Gallery and choose an image, it's blurred for a couple seconds, but then clears up.

Not sure why ur's are blurry? My Gallery pic's are very clear & in focus!

My pics are not blurry or any less original quality. Maybe your pics are just taking long to render. Is your memory card full? I have a class 6 and it takes about 2 sec for a pic to render.

I started a thread with a similar issue, but it deals with pictures posted on Picasa.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623152&highlight=gallery
Seems to be a resolution issue, but may be limited to Picasa only.

I think he's talking about when you zoom in, such as in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5495552
When you zoom really far into a picture, you get this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

Very stupid coding by Google.

yup thats it! its pretty annoying that if i want to zoom in alot on a picture i have to go to camera and then preview them. i hope they fix this on the next update

The new gallery is somewhat buggy, yeah...
There is basically no picture zoom now (the zoom just stretches the picture, and doesn't show the real detail of the original picture) - and that makes it kinda useless.
Also, swiping pictures in a folder that has images and videos will just show blank black pages instead of the videos.
Oh well.
They will probably fix that soon.

speaking of gallery.. I swear that there used to be a way to resize pictures.... I can't figure it out anymore, I guess I must be crazy or something. I need to resize them so my gf can receive them, but she doesn't have data, and they need to be at the tmo 300 kb size limit.

It resizes them automatically when it opens them up in the message app for sending.

Its the default Gallery app itself...Its of terrible visual quality.
Down load multi touch gallery by BnB.
Take the same pictures in both galleries and you will see a dramatic difference in quality for any zoomed in picture.
The quality is low , and it takes much longer to render. Good step forward but needs alot of work.

Im not sure what you fella's are talking about. If i load a full 12 MP image from my digi cam i can view it 100% at total sharpness.
But the gallery app will zoom the 100% mark. thats where you'll get pixelation because you're zoomed in further than the pic is capable of displaying. Are you sure you're viewing images that are big enough to be zoomed into?

waiiit a second... i think i see what you're talking about now.
Oh well... i still like viewing pictures in the new nexus gallery versus the old android gallery on my Mytouch 3G.
Maybe they'll fix it in the next update.

Fixing it depends on whether or not they even care to notice.
They seem to add alot but dont refine much of anything.
We;d have better luck finding a good Gallery dev and just asking them to implement the Gallery style of default.

Do you have the update yet? I don't have the update and I can assure you that my gallery shows the image *WAY* worse than, for instance, Android's own camera preview (and the B&B gallery app from the Market).
I can go to a picture in the gallery, zoom it in until it stops and it looks crappy and it will not zoom any further (not sure what you mean by "lets you zoom past 100% - I reach a limit and can't zoom any further).
I then go to the camera app, click on the preview button in the upper right corner, navigate to the same picture, zoom it in even further than the gallery let me zoom, and it still looks crisp. It zooms *further* than the gallery and looks crisper than the gallery at that limit as well. (I do note that the camera preview mode does also limit the amount you can zoom in, but the limit is higher than the gallery app).
I've done this with 2 separate pictures and the difference is night and day (no room for misinterpretation). The version I see in the gallery app is noticeably, and decisively worse than the version I see in the camera's preview mode.
The B&B gallery app also zooms with similar quality to the camera's preview mode. I don't know if the B&B gallery has a zoom limit as they screwed up the pinch zoom implementation and as you zoom in it takes exponentially wider finger motions to get smaller and smaller return in terms of zoom ratio to the point that you feel like you are at a limit, but it does seem to get microscopically larger on each pinch gesture. At the limit where I gave up, it was zoomed to about the same level as the camera preview mode got to and had similar quality to the camera preview (i.e. much better than the built-in gallery app).

Have you got an APN set up for mms?

I have another question about the gallery. When I put tv-series on my sd card it only shows a sample picture but it doesnt show me which episode it is. I have to use astro to figure out which episode i wanna play. is there a workaround?

Yeah. it's very frustrating that the gallery doesn't show you file names unless you ask for "details" one at a time. And if you open a videi via ASTRO, the player doesn't remember your spot so that you can exit and continue easily later, as it does if you use the gallery. Not very friendly.

So if I sync my Picasa albums, when I view them in Album, does it try and download the whole picture when I view it, or does it auto adjust it for my screen? In other words, if I have a 1600 wide pic, will it download a 800 wide for my screen?
If not, I guess it will help if I sync them all at 800 wide, much less to download when I view?

Picture resize...

hi guys, when i goto crop my pics, they crop fine, but im left with a tiny picture..
how do i resize the pic to full screen...
this is one of the biggest problems about the x10,i have loads of pictures but most come out all small or fuzzy using the crop, why se didnt just allow full screen wallpaper is beyond me,however there are a few apps in the store that allows full screen wallpapers however must force close a lot and piece of advice dont use justpics it freezes the phone completely i learned it the hard way,if you find a better way to use full pics as wallpaper please let me know thanks
Bloody JOKING...
Yeah it seems there's some seriously dumbass software issues with the wallpaper option on the X10.
It seems there is no straight forward to way to simply select picture (either one you've take or one upload from cpu/bluetooth) and set the whole/full image as phone's background.
Cropping is forced and as far as i can tell MAX image is 2 THIRDS OF SCREEN!!

HTC Gallery blurry photos

I've just recently noticed (after using my camera more frequently) that the default gallery app causes the photos to be slightly blurry when viewing in full size. This problem is alleviated as soon as you zoom in, even slightly, but when you pinch out to full size again, the photo gets slightly hazy again. What is even more strange is that B&B Gallery off Marketplace does not demonstrate this fuzziness as all images are crisp regardless of if it is zoomed in or not.
Is there a setting that I can switch on the default HTC Gallery app to have all photos appear at full sharpness even at full screen size?
I see what you're saying. I took a few pictures of dinner with the family over the weekend and when I view the images in the default landscape view, they look a little fuzzy.
If I zoom in the fuzziness vanishes, and if I resize it to fit the relative size of landscape view, no fuzziness. If I tilt my phone to portrait and back to landscape, the fuzziness returns.
It is even more frustrating when you look at the photos through B & B Gallery. It isn't as integrated into the OS - ie having a shortcut within the camera view, but all the photos are clear from the start and they don't require zooming in slightly to capture the detail. Of course nothing is as bad as the stock Android 3D gallery, but it is disappointing all the same.
Just use Gallery3DMT.apk if you're having quality issues with HTC Gallery.

Is that different from:
http://phandroid.com/2010/04/13/images-look-blurry-on-android-2-1-theres-a-reason-for-that/
Just loaded it and answered my own question: no. The UI on Gallery3DMT is great, but the picture quality - especially when zooming at all - is just bad.
I too can see this. my eyes aren't great but i notice it and its pretty apparent.

Blurry Photo Backgrounds

Surprised no one has mentioned this, when I try to set a photo taken on the phone as the wallpaper, it asks me to crop a selection from the picture. After setting the wallpaper, it is blurry (in the same way a picture is blurry when you zoom in using gallery). I'm guessing this is just a bug that will be fixed in the next update?
When selecting the picture for wallpaper, Select an edge of the yellow box, and stretch it 'till you select the whole photo/as much as you want.
For some reason, multi-touch to zoom in here doesn't work, whilst it does on n1. (n1 running stock 2.2 [FRF91], and Galaxy S i9000 running stock XXJF3)

Hahahaha. God damn. I was wondering why it would only let me select a tiny bit of a picture as a wallpaper and thought to myself - "why the hell didn't they add in the feature that Rawat has just described". For some reason I had never even tried, I just assumed it wasn't there.
So, thank you good sir I can now apply a whole picture as my wallpaper
It's a retarded system. You give it the exact resolution and it makes you crop it.
If you use .jpg it seems to end up blurry not matter what due to poor recompression.
I've found using .png of the right dimensions works much better.
My setup is a folder of .png of 960x800 and "Wallpaper Rotator" to switch between them every x time.

[Q] Vignette app help

Got Vignette app last night, and I am not sure I am using it correctly. At main screen I can see auto focus borders, but they are too wide, so pictures look like they have fixed focus.
My question is: is it possible to reduce those auto focus borders somehow, to get focused item, and blurry edges for the things that are not in focus?

I've Got the Vignette app and there are many options to be tried out.
The focus is very sensetive and i need to take more shots in bright light but so far the best results have been taking the picture via the on screen button and i know this is basic but give the lens a wipe as well.
I have a feeling there is a gerneral bluring with this app regardless to simulate particular film stocks.
To avoid this you can use the normal camera software and import those photos or any photo from your camera roll and apply the style you want then save over the file or save a copy.
I hope this helps.

You mean something like a macro mode?
You could try taking a picture with the 'Vignette' effect added onto it (The name of the effect itself is Vignette)
thanks for quick responses guyz, well I am not sure if it does focus actually. I mean physically lens tries to focus, but I dont think it actually focuses anything, so I thought maybe it is possible to reduce those focus borders to get focused item on image.
pngface, yes something like macro, but not that close
Anyway since vignette is saving images withough jpg compression, daylight images will have even better quality than now(and now they are very good)

Screen resolution issue

It can easily be remedied by using a custom lockscreen.

Screen resolution issue??? WTF. The screen resolution on the Note is one of the main reasons people buy it because it is the best available.
I have the EXACT same problem, only the opposite. Not long ago I made a forum with regards to this problem but unfortunately there was no reply...
I have this strange issue that when closing a game or video for example or simply by turning off and on again the screen wallpaper seems to have zoomed in like crazy (200%) and it appears smeary/blocky...
It's really pissing me off I've still not been able to solve this problem.

This must be an individual problem. For if the Note was faulty as described then why isn't it a problem for every Note user?

Here is my wallpaper issue, kinda like the opposite to the ops...
The first picture is how it looks normally and the other 2 is after, one is in landscape and one is in portrait view.
When I tilt my screen from portrait to landscape that's when it screws up my wallpaper.
Otherwise if I turn my phone off then on it will start up just like you will see in pictures 2 & 3.
The ONLY way to correct it is to switch launcher to the default touchwiz and then back to the launcher that had the stretched/zoomed in wallpaper.
This problem does NOT occur in touchwiz but pretty much EVERY other launcher has the same problem, 3 launchers including ADW, Go Launcher & even Launcher Pro all give me the same issue.
Enough talking from me. Here are some screens of my strange issue. Look carefully at screens 2 & 3 as they are zoomed in and quality is bad.
Screen 1 is how it should look!

@kanej2006, hmm, not too sure, havent had that issue before, been using SPB launcher 3d for a while now as well.
just tried swapping SPB to landscape mode. it screws up the background whilst its in landscape mode (stretches/zooms image), but the lockscreen image is fine in portrait mode (ie. the way the picture is meant to look).
i normally just use my phone in portrait mode anyway, but have you tried seeing if theres an app or mod that would make the lockscreen appear in landscape mode instead? that way it will minimise bg image distortion? (im a nubb with modding)
This is interesting. Wonder if we abuse this "bug" and can change DPI dynamically depending on the app.

Hmm, no I have not tried an app that keeps the homescreen in landscape mode.
I was actually thinking of trying an app that LOCKS the homescreen, to keep it in portrait mode. This way it might not stretch/zoom.
This problem happened with most launchers, with touchwiz it never happened.
Any good apps to lock the homescreen? Thanks.

I've tried this but the problem when disabling 'auto-rotate' in the pull down notification bar is that when going through photos or browsing the internet the screen is stuck on portrait mode. There are times when I need to switch to landscape mode.
What would be useful to try would be to somehow lock ONLY the homescreen to portrait but not the rest of the menu. This may work but I'm unsure how to lock the homescreen only.
Guys I'd just like to say I've finally fixed my strange problem with the wallpaper stretching by iteself or when rotating the screen it would change and zoom in resulting in a bad quality image.
The one and only magical app called Wizardrii, wicked app & a life saver.
I simply downloaded & installed the app, ran it and when selecting my wallpaper I select 'scale image' which will then set your desired wallpaper in fullscreen mode and even when switching from portrait to landcape the wallpaper would remain unchanged, just what I wanted!
