Hi all,
Just updated manually to the new OTA update.
I've noticed post-update that the carrier name now has an | character to the right of the name e.g. in my case:
O2 - UK|
Anyone know what's caused this it was not there pre-update. Any help appreciated at this point.
Cheers,
Might be a name that can be changed in APN settings.. not seeing it with AT&T here in the states.

I'm not seeing it with T-Mobile either, but there was someone else who posted the same issue that was outside of the US.
I'm not seeing it with Vodafone in the UK, just like normal for me!

Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627964
Looks like T-Mobile UK and O2-UK users are reporting it so far but not Vodaphone, AT&T or T-Mobile US users.
Vodafon NL had the same issue.
The pipe-character is used to denote roaming. E.g. on my phone it says "Netcom | Tele 2", in this case because Tele 2 is using Netcom's network in Norway, so not really roaming, but still.
So I would think that for users experiencing this that the phone thinks you're roaming, have anyone tried to see if data connections still work if you turn off "data roaming" in settings?

I'm on ePlus Germany and have the | symbol too.
I have turned off "data roaming" all the time and everything is still working fine.

Ok, probably just a normal little bug then
I'm in Israel, my network and provider are Orange, and I see - "Orange | Orange".
Sunrise in Switzerland does not have this problem.
Deployed in Afghanistan and mine now says Roshan | Roshan for reference.
Before Update it looked like this:
Roshan
Roshan
I also have the pipe.... using TMN from Portugal. Shows "TMN |"
This message was deleted by its author
In Spain, Vodafone ES with the same pipe...
What I don't get is that O2 - UK | what would come after it? nothing that I can think of.
Has anyone figured this out yet or has Google acknowledged it?
Cheers,

Thanks everyone for the forum. I used it to unlock my O2 XDA11 so that my new (paid for by my work) Vodafone SIMcard would work in it. All has worked well, and I can phone from it and browse the net using GSM dial up, but although it says that GPRS is connected, IE simply returns "page not found" errors as soon as you request any page. Email also gives a message about the pop mailserver not being available. I have checked many times with VOodafone and they are sure that I am properly set up with a GPRS access point at their end. Has anyone come across this problem and would you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Which GPRS access point are you using? Internet or WAP?
I've had no problems setting up my unlocked XDAII on vodafone.
Check your settings again the ones I posted in this thread if you are unsure (second post).
It might also be helpful to know if you have a clean config, or if you have left all the o2 customization on the phone.
Just thought I'd attach the Vodafone UK customization CAB (see below)
I haven't installed this myself - but it's from the i-mate site and I've checked the CAB and it appears to have the correct settings in it.
So it should configure the device correctly.
Thanks,
I'm using the web access point and i've configured that under "my ISP" in "connections". I have also tried it with wap settings under "my work connection". In either case the connections icon in the top of the today screen indicates GPRS connection. I have however left all O2 customisations on the machine, indeed I updated the O2 rom to the latest and final version just in case. Should I remove the O2 today screen? and How?
Dear Webspider,
the cab you pointed me to has cured the problem. I uninstalled all of the O2 today screen stuff as well, and it all works a treat now.
Thanks a lot.

Glad to hear it. It must have been a configuration problem then.
So since your Vodafone contract is paid for by your work will you be using GPRS to stream radio etc....
Radio really works really well....I seem to get better speeds on the mobile then when I used to use dial-up on my computer.

Hi there,
I live in Sydney Australia and have just travelled to Singapore on business. Unfortunately my JAMin refuses to connect to any of the local networks.
On previous trips, my O2 Xda II mini worked just fine. This is the first time I've travelled overseas with my new JAMin, and it just won't work.
I've looked at all of the Network settings and nothing seems to be wrong. I can even manually scan for the local networks in Singapore but cannot connect to any of them.
I upgraded my radio rom a few weeks back to the latest version (2.47.21) - do you think this could have caused the problem? I've just downgraded the radio rom (firstly to 2.20.21 and then 2.30.21) to see if that helps but still no go at all.
HELP! I can't be off the air for the entire trip.
p.s. My prophet is a G3 device and I used the correct ROMS. The phone works perfectly in Australia (Vodafone).

Have you already ruled out a Vodafone screw up or problems in the international connection? Usually if you can see the networks then your phone is working, if you can't attach to them then either signalling is not reaching your home network or your Home Location Register configuration doesn't allow roaming.
Try to contact Vodafone in Australia and report the problem. I doubt it is something with your phone.

Yes, you were correct. It was Vodafone's fault.
I've travelled with the same SIM for the past few years without problem so I assumed that my Radio ROM upgrade was probably at fault. When I called Vodafone Australia today they confirmed that when we changed some account details a few months back, their computer defaulted all of our phones back to "no roaming". Very unhelpful indeed! I'd now like the 2.5 hours sleep I lost last night trying to get the friggin' thing working!!!!
Thanks for your response.

Ok, so have you tried going to connection setup and selecting operator & location?
Have you also tried changing radio?
Are you sure international roaming is enabled for your account? You need to tell orange that you want to use your phone abroad before you go and they enable it at their end.
I used my UK orange blackstone in India so yours should work in Spain.
after checking my onliner account Im sure its down to it not being ´roaming´ enabled. I´ve emailed orange but not sure if they will enable it without me calling them!
thanks!
If you want to contact Orange UK can can also phone them from another phone.
Pay monthly mobile customers
Just call 150 from your pay monthly phone or 07973 100 150 from any other phone.
Pay as you go mobile customers
Simply dial 450 from your pay as you go phone or 07973 100 450 from any other phone.

That's because they want to give you a long talk about how much calls and data will cost!.
My phone (Topaz 6.5) is running on Telus new UMTS network which is mainly a shared network with Bell. The sim card has two networks in it 302220 (Native Telus) and 302880 (Shared Bell/Telus). The nework I see when scanning for networks is 302880 but the phone always shows the roaming warning triangle.
I have been going through the forum trying to figure out the roaming warning issue without any luck. I have tried multiple tweaks to get rid of the warning like the reg tweak disableroamingindicator but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas on how to disable the warning or even better get the phone to accept that it is actually home.
Thanks!

i have the exact same problem. I haven't found a fix for it yet either...
Sony X1a
I signed up for Telus and have an x1a, I have the same problem. I did however get the LG IQ when I signed up. I was wondering If someone would help me dump the device and maybe there be a cab or we can find the settings to allow other windows mobile devices to show Telus as home.

Did this ever get solved?? I have the same problems on a Tilt 2.
Tilt 2
I still haven’t found anything; I keep searching the net with no success. I got an unlocked Tilt2 on eBay and when I put the TELUS sim card in it didn't show the roaming indicator, it also shows the proper name in the network settings "TELUS UMTS". Once I used Hard-SPL Unlocker for Rhodium and flashed a custom ROM the symbol showed up again. I'm not sure where it is located (Either ROM or radio) that the device things it's roaming.
Anybody else have any ideas?

So this is the exact same problem that I have with my Bell SIM. Any of the cooks got any ideas how we could solve this?
Just curious, does this actually harm any functionality at all? i.e. is it purely a cosmetic issue of the indicator itself appearing?

Most applications restrict data usage if they think the phone is roaming. We can disable this on a per-application basis but if the phone is ACTUALLY roaming then be ready for a very large bill.
Just to add it is just a real pain. And risky if you live near the border.
Same problem here in Austria... Would be very nice if we could find something
regarding this!
So any ideas who might be able to solve is it an HTC problem?
So still no solution on this issue? I am sure LG iQ (a winmo phone) doesn't think it's roaming while on TELUS network. Maybe somebody can pull registry info from it to help us resolve this problem?
It is really annoying as pretty much nothing works without confirming first regarding the roaming.
Tilt 2 Registry
I'm on Telus and have a Tilt2. The original ROM that came with the unit didn't show the roaming triangle. I have attached some screen captures of the ROM. I've attached a copy of the registry (Remove the .cab it was the only way I could get it to upload).
Hopefully somebody can find where the settings are located and hopefully it's contained in the registry.
I have an unlocked Tilt 2 that i bought on eBay. It also says it is roaming. Is it because of the Telus Native + Telus/Bell networks or is there something in the phone that thinks it must be roaming if it leaves AT&T's network?

It's something specific to Telus as these phones on a Rogers SIM do not indicate roaming.
NO since the home network is basically hardcoded into the software.(except OEM unbranded nexus or 1300$ iphone 3gs)
its pretty simple, its the os software that comes on the "carrier branded" software that hides the roaming triangle ie: the fido branded pearl, has no roaming, but the unlocked pearl, with a competitors software will show roaming, can't get any easier than that.
Rogers and Telus PLMN compared
I'm not sure if this will help,
I have attached a picture of the PLMN from a Rogers sim and a Telus sim
Maybe someone knows how to adjust the information on these lists.
Im running into the same problems. Rogers HTC Dream with a Telus SIM. Its not giving me data services though which I find frustrating because I am currently paying for them.
I bought a Motorola Atrix recently. It works well except that I can't use the data connection with Malaysia Telco,is there anyone who can help me to solve this problem? It displays "No data connection "on the screen and failed to go online although I have try all necessary setting.

Sounds like the data APN is not configured correctly. Do you have the connection specifics from your mobile carrier? Might need to call them and give you the right informaton to set it up.
Hi,
I have the same problem. My Atrix is AT+T (unlocked) and I'm trying to use it on O2 in the UK. I'm brand new to Android, so please excuse my ignorance. I read something about the APN, and I have O2's settings, but when I go to the APN screen I can't seem to add an APN - is this because of AT+T?
Thanks
