I've been in London at the Launch event. Let me know if you have any questions
I enjoyed your comparison videos alot, thanks for that.
I have a question. What was your impression of the screen in person next to the One X, or in general for that matter? When you first saw the display was there anything that put you off about it? Or are all the 'pentile haters' exagerating?
Cheers!
Is that a screen burn in for the iPhone?
Does the Galaxy S3 really look as bad in person as in the pictures?
I really liked the look of the One X over the s3, but like the s3 features more. Btw nice comparison

Now that i'm looking at it without the hype glass, I think this is one of the most beautiful phones ever created. The lines just flow and I love it's minimalist approach. Can't wait to own such a beautiful and powerful device! Kudos to Sammy!
Very nice videos thanks. Gs3 design is growing on me.

Liked all your videos.. Iphone looks like ****.. lol
And HOX is running ahead by an hour in time, thanks to the 1.5GHZ processor as compared to 1.4GHZ of SGS3..
Appreciate your sharing these videos, puts a close up + personal perspective on all the media frenzy of this past week............can't wait to hear availability dates / final specs for US version..............more videos!

Ok its getting close to the 30th so this thread is to stop EVERYONE and their dog opening new threads shouting about how much they love their new phone.
If you feel the need to tell everyone that your new phone just arrived or that you just went to pick yours up then you can post in here.
You can also post your initial thoughts and reviews if you wish and I will link to them in this 1st post if you let me know.
Hopefully this thread will stop thousands of similar threads being started on and around the 30th.
It should also stop users starting several similar new threads saying they have just picked up the SGS3 and asking if anyone wants anything tested/reviewed. Instead, EVERYONE can just post their questions in here and they will be answered (maybe) by people who have the phone in their hand.
If ANY threads with the above subject are started they will be closed without warning.
Personally im picking up my white S3 Sim Free from my local CarPhoneWareHouse on Wednesday and should have the SGS3 ToolKit up and running for it soon after .
EDIT: 30/05/2012 Picked my shiny new Galaxy S3 up from my Orange shop today.

Pebble blue or marble white?
Pick mine up tomorrow from Samsung Stratford UK. Cannot wait!
I ordered the sleek looking white version.
I look forward to seeing the pictures.
i wonder how the phone is in person? the one x didn't impress like how i saw it in pictures.. LOL.. i was disappointed! wasn't really bad but i thought it'd look nicer , it must be the matte finish or probably the color of the phone, i saw the white one.. htc should've gone with a glossy or metallic look of the plastic... would look better imo..
Galaxy S III initial review
Hello

It would be awesome if people mentioned which color they have. Just being curious about the availability of the pebble blue.
White, using it for past 4 days loving it. Rooted, CMW already. tested some ROMs on it. Working great. Have wifi bug either from importing legacy software of LG O3D or new dont know yet. After a night sleep in morning the phone doesn't recognize any wifi hotspots, have to toggle off/on again.

Can you do another video of the buddy photo tag feature in camera? can it detect faces properly?
Also, have you tried using the Allshare Play feature. Details on the setup can be found in allshareplay (dot) com
or check youtube video link HRgYwWROC7A
Just opened up my brand new marble whiteo) SGS3. It feels really fast, faster actually than it did at the store, and definitely faster than my old SGS2. The display is really amazing, even though I do notice the sparser grid of the subpixels when looking at black text on a red background(engadget homepage). It does however look much better than the Super Amoled Plus display of the SGS2.
The camera is really fast, but the transparent UI that we saw on the review models isn't there(don't really like the grey good for nothing bars, but it could be a setting I've missed). The pics are crisp and clean, but don't expect any miracles from it, as low-light performance isn't the best, but good enough.
The video pop-up feature is also really cool. Gonna post more first impressions soon!
Oh, and the SGS3 is really really comfortable to use! Feels right at home in my hand.
EDIT: Just tried out the sound quality, and boy is it an upgrade from the SGS2. Much better now! Hopefully we'll se an awesome review again by supercurio once he gets his hands on it.
Browser is blazing fast. Installing apps is blazing fast. The GPS is insanely fast, got a lock in 2 seconds inside my house(google maps) first time I tried it! Everything is just working fluidly, but when enabling the power saving mode, the fluidity goes down the toilet.
Everything, but the pentile screen(notice it when I surf the web on my couch) has been amazing thus far!
EDIT2: Woops, got the colors mixed up..
@Toss3, It's "marble white" and "pebble blue". oh btw I hate you (joke)
So the first one that posts a picture of his Pebble Blue GSIII wins

this is because you set your cam to do 8mp shots, and the 8mp resolution has a 4:3 aspect ratio. choose one of the wide resolutions, like 6.5w, this will have a 16:9 aspect ratio and give you the transparent effect on the buttons.

Just wish these one of these hands-on reviewers commented on the texture of the back. We still have no idea if the back of the WHITE Nexus 9 has a plastic matte finish or a soft-touch finish.
Just wish there was a decent review!

Did anyone notice the Volta app thing in the video from the verge? I wonder if its a google app for project volta or if it's a 3rd paty app
Lol, I've been a LONG time member even if I don't post much. I'm simply on the fence and want to see as many actual hands on videos as possible to help in my purchase decision. If you head over to you tube and search for "nexus 9 hands on" it's pretty easy to see why I made the thread.

There are only about 4 known hands-on videos of the Nexus 9 and 2 of those are in Vietnamese. They interesting thing is that the Vietnamese ones are the most in-depth. The other two are hands on video from Techcrunch and TheVerge where they were only given a very limited amount of time with the device at google.
When he says fake videos, he means the hundreds of videos on youtube that are just either duplicate copies of the same videos, slideshows of pictures and specs, or videos not even related to the Nexus 9. They are basically "clickbait" videos by Youtube uploaders that want views.
Android Central posted a 4 minute hands on video:
the verge's review is just so sad, seriously, you have a nexus device for a one minute review?

You are aware that The Verge's video was not a "one minute review", right?
1) It was a hands-on
2) It was a video with a time-limited constraint, most likely at Google's premises, unlike Android Central's hands on that came two days later and without such time constraint.
Just sayin....
Verge sure as hell ensured that the short amount of time is used to express their own disgust towards products that are not made by Apple in every sentence throughout the hands-on.
They succeeded in doing so.

I think you're overreacting. The worst thing he said about it was that it was a bit thicker than the ipad and that it was an inbetweener device between the ipad mini and ipad air due to its screen size.

I don't like the subtle boredom in his voice, like he's forced to do the review.
Stuff like "well yeah, it's an ANDROID tablet [...] MAYBE that's what you're looking for"... come on.
Seriously, they should go back reviewing to their super-duper premium iPads that have no flaws at all and giving it 11/10 in the scores.

It is because of inflammatory statements such as this one that invalidate your other claim of him sounding bored which may be very well the case, but due to the typical "Android fanboy"-hyperbolic claims, you're making it harder for the rest of us when we intend to make an actual criticism.
The hands-on done by The Verge was not an Android bashing party, nor an iPhone praising celebration as you're making it sound.
Of course the last sentence was over the top as Im pissed off by the way certain reviewers dont even try to hide their bias ..
Seriously I don't know what to think. I've owned android tablet since the Folio 100 something like 4 years ago and now I got a Note 2014 but ...
It's a pain in the update, just look at my last 4.4 update :/ should I think about getting an IPad on will this one be the one ?
Thx for the vids

Maybe some people just have smug sounding voices. We should just accept reviews at face value based on the content of their words, not by their tone. If anything, the guy's opinions were pretty objective, moreso than any i've seen on the Nexus 9. Lacking in both criticisms and superlatives.

What exactly about the Note 2014 was a pain to update?
I've owned 3 Nexus devices (4,5, and 7 2012) and they were a breeze to update. Just had to wait a week or two for it become available OTA.

Yeah, must be some kind of NDA involved. I've seen several videos now but none show much more than taking it out of the box and flipping around the screens......

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/11/03/nexus-9-review-a-little-better-on-paper-than-in-practice/
The Good
Display: I love the 4:3 form factor, and the display itself is very nice. Great colors, what looks to be solid white balance, good brightness, and excellent viewing angles. I can find no real important faults with it.
Android L: Is pretty, adds tons of new features (many of which are quite useful), and beautiful animations throughout the OS. Easily the most mature and thoroughly styled Android has ever looked. It looks great on the Nexus 9.
Fast: The Nexus 9 is, in most situations where linear performance is the primary concern, very quick. Its single-thread benchmark results put it even ahead of Apple's new iPad Air 2, so that K1 isn't a slouch.
Front-facing speakers: I don't really need to extol the virtues of front-facing speakers. They're obvious.
Software support: OTA updates from Google mean you'll be the first to get the latest version of Android, of course, with all the good and bad things that entails.
The Not So Good
Battery life: 9.5 hours of Wi-Fi browsing is, as far as my review unit is concerned, a fantasy. Like, there's just no way. I'm getting half that.
Performance: It's unpredictable. The Nexus 9 is fast, but it's twitchy. Apps will randomly take longer to load than normal, longer than I would expect - it doesn't feel fully optimized. That, or only having two cores is causing issues.
Build quality: It does not feel like a $400 tablet should feel. Not only is it fairly heavy for its size, the plastic back seems to have the same issues the Nexus 5's did - it deforms under pressure, snaps, and creaks. It is not nice. Also, it's a finger oil magnet.
Design: I'm sorry, but in my subjective opinion, the Nexus 9 is not a pretty tablet. It is decidedly generic, and not in a cool, stealthy way. It's boring and drab. The press shots do it too much justice.
Price: All things considered, I find $400 ($480 for 32GB) hard to stomach for a 16GB tablet of this caliber. That's generation one iPad Air money.

Lets see if the embargo isnt pushed a week also..
Let me guess the verge review just for fun, since they gave n5 8.0 and 8.8 to the moto x and they called the best android phone.
Nexus 6 score= 8.5
Pros:
Premium feel
Lollipop is good
Camera is good
Cons:
Too big phablet to fit in your front pocket
No so good screen
No way to buy one at the moment of the review
Pros: only available to the Klingons as a cloaking device!
Cons: no humanoids allowed to have it!

http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/11/motorola-droid-turbo-review/ got a 90 today so unless there are surprises the Nexus 6 should score higher based on lack of exclusivity, its dual front facing stereo speakers, Android L, design closer to a larger Moto X but with a smaller battery than Turbo & they may not detract for the lower pixel density..
Motorola Droid Turbo
PROS
Long battery life
Attractive Quad HD screen
Powerful performance
Camera a clear improvement over the Moto X's
CONS
Less charming design than the Moto X
No expandable memory
It's exclusive to Verizon

While it lacks the style and charm of the 2014 Moto X, the Droid Turbo is a powerhouse that manages to outperform its relative in nearly every way that matters. Sadly, it's a Verizon exclusive so the rest of you (unless you live in Brazil and Mexico and buy a Moto Maxx) need not apply..
The Moto X and the Droid Turbo both sport 5.2-inch AMOLED screens, but that's where the similarities end (much to the chagrin of X owners, I'd wager). That's because the panel Motorola used on the Turbo runs at Quad HD (or 2,560 x 1,440, if you haven't already committed it to memory), making it one of the most pixel-dense displays you'll find on a smartphone. The effect, as you'd imagine, is pretty stunning. Your stories, your videos, your apps; they're going to look just lovely. That said, a screen like this will make you all too aware that the internet is peppered with low-res images and icons, so be ready to shield your eyes whenever you come across them. Skype is a good example of this visual discrepancy in action: Your messages will look crisp, while emoticons will be tiny since they're so low-res.
At some point, though, you've got to wonder when (or even if) enough will be enough. Do all those extra pixels crammed into each linear inch really make a difference? We're getting to the point where the inability to distinguish one pixel from another is just a given, so all the other factors suddenly become more important. The Turbo's Super AMOLED panel, for instance, can oscillate between bright, punchy colors and sumptuous blacks. The downside is that images and video take on a slightly warm cast (Sutton Foster look distinctly tanned in one of my test videos), which won't be everyone's cup of tea. Viewing angles are solid too, if not the best I've come across, and even at maximum brightness, the Turbo's screen still doesn't light up the night with quite the same vigor as the Moto X.
Ah, but here's the rub! That screen might lend itself well to your video collection, but the single-speaker setup isn't going to thrill you. Frankly, this part's a little frustrating -- even the budget-priced Moto G has a pair of front-facing speakers, while the clearly higher-end Turbo has to make do with one less driver. The end result is audio that's plenty loud, but cramped and muddy, without much distinction between channels. That's not to say the speaker's bad, per se; it's on par with most of the speakers in other smartphones, which is to say they get the job done and don't aspire to much more. Keep a pair of headphones handy and you'll never have to worry about it..
The Droid Turbo is frustrating. It's objectively better than the Moto X in most of the ways that matter: Its battery is tremendous (if not as amazing as Verizon claims); the screen is lovely; and the camera is actually worth using. Some might say this is the phone the Moto X should've been in the first place, and I can't argue with that. Still, as ridiculous as it sounds, the Turbo is severely lacking in the charm that made the X so pleasant, and that shouldn't be discounted. Go to a store. Play with both. You'll see what I mean. The fact that only Verizon customers can currently buy such a great phone doesn't help matters either.
Here's what it boils down to: The Droid Turbo is an undeniably great device and probably the best carrier-exclusive phone since the days of, well, the original Motorola Droid. It won't win any awards for design or sound quality, but that won't make anyone who already bought a Moto X feel better.

Who cares what the Verge says? I only read to their articles to see the very small nitpicks that other sites usually miss but they are pretty biased towards Apple. I'm looking forward to reviews by AndroidPolice, AndroidAuthority, MKBHD, Anandtech, MobileTechReview and TheDetroitBorg.

AndroidPolice, AndroidAuthority, MKBHD (great 4K videos), Anandtech, MobileTechReview (good long videos) do tend to go much more in depth including the YouTube channels linked (though never heard of TheDetroitBorg).. I also check out https://www.youtube.com/user/jon4lakers/videos even though they luv Apple & don't go as in depth as they used to..
I do like the increasing well lighted 4K video reviews (or at least 1080p).. expect more soon at https://www.youtube.com/results?lclk=today&filters=today&search_query=nexus+6:good:
If someone took an iPhone and painted over the fruit logo and gave it to Verge for review, they'd find a way to slam it. Least objective and most biased site out there. I still can't get over how they said the Note 4 was too big, yet the iPhone 6+ which is bigger with a smaller screen was said to be easier to hold. The site is a total joke.
Sadly one of the best sites, AnandTech, also lost its objectivity when Anand joined Apple and long before that, they were also Apple biased.

DetroitBorg is an Apple user but his reviews are very informative, he goes in-depth and his videos just look great. Top notch reviewer imo.
Anyone know if there is a time expiration for the embargo or just date? If date we could see something in the next 20 minutes or so.
Alex Maxham seems to have jumped the gun a bit with a poorly lighted 3:48 min:sec "review" (briefly compares to Note4 toward end with audible speakers albeit just annoying notification sounds)

Why did Google require reviewers that already have the device wait till the 12th before releasing a review?

Because that was supposed to be the "release" date, when they set the NDA to end.
