hey,
I wanted to extract "Torch" application from "Azure" Rom and few other applications. as Torch is the only working app which did really enable the LED for HTC Legend.
I actually opened the ZIP package to path \azure-1.0.1.zip\system\app where the applications are stored, every app comes in APK and OBEX files. I extracted few APKS, non of them worked.
I am seeking some help for extracting the application from the ROM.
Thanks in advance!
lamppu is a good LED torch. You need root to use it, look in market

I have looked in market, but it doesnt seem to exist there. However, do you know anyway to extract the application as working APK file?
Any other LED torches that works with LEGEND?
*EDIT: well, I found it, its named Lamppu. but anyway it didnt work, although my phone is rooted! why is that?
Try Extended Controls, there is a Torch Widget which worked on my HTC Legend. (NOTE:Root access Required For this very Widget)

If you find a ROM that has both .apx and .odex in the app-folder you will not get it to work by only extracting the .apk file.. You need both of the files in order to include them in another ROM..
Use a backup program like Titanium backup or MyBackup pro: they will extract for you.

That makes sense...but who would I merge the .apk and .obex together to be in one .apk file so I can install it?
Or maybe you know some way I can install these files?
Help would be really appreciated.

You mean like after loading the custom ROM, I backup the application I want then restore them after I load the custom I want?!
This is just long process of backing up your data then load custom rom, then back to the old rom, then root then restore...
I thought there might be easier and shorter ways?!
Any help would be appreciated. Gracias!
Anyone to help?????
try the kitchen method.
Scout around in the .zip to find the package you want, copy the .apk to your ADB directory and then, with the phone plugged in:
Code:
adb install [I]path-to-package[/I].apk

To be honest you've answered your own question. What you've done is the easiest way to pull an app from a ROM. So if your issue is something else it may be an idea to re-write your question (again, I know. Sorry).
I also apologise for mis-interpreting your question the first time 'round. I hope my help in this post is better.

Your help so much appreciated mate!
Well, the last conclusion I got to is, the .apk and .obex files are actually one file but they were divided to 2 files just to make them work better, so if you take the .apk file only it wont work as it will be missing the other .obex file.
Anyway, I am also guessing there is a way to merge the 2 files back, I read a little about "de-odex" but I couldnt really get the best help I could get. I will post the solution once I get to it.
Thanks again for your help mate!

Okay, as I am sure we all see there has been a HUGE break through for our HD2 freedom thanks to all the Dev's here with the release of ClockWork Mod Recovery. I can for see a downpour of one particlular question flooding the forums... "Can you make a ROM ZIP Please".
I would assume that it can't be that much of a task to take a NAND build and make it flashable (Maybe I am wrong) but it seems all the hard stuff of creation is done, it becomes a matter of "format" (Maybe Not the Right Word). Extract Boot and System.IMG's, Editing a script?
So... Maybe we can all take the burden off some of the Devs doing this to our favorite builds? Then they can focus on what they do best... making this stuff work.
What is involved in doing this?
Hell, maybe I am way off and we should leave it to the Pro's?
I'm Ready.

I would have to agree. I'm not much of a developer but I can follow directions pretty good. I would come on board and like DroidTh3ory said, take some of the burden off some of the Devs.
I would also like to a see a Nandroid (backup of nand to sd) type option so as if the new rom we flashed is not what we were hoping we can roll back the nandroid.

I am not a developer. I would be more than happy to help with doing the conversions if someone posts a way to do it.
The developers need to spend their time developing their builds to be the best that they can be. We, as a community, need to help the developers by taking the little tasks, such as file conversions, from the developers so they don't have to sweat the little stuff.
Linux BASH scripts are my friend.

Yes, flashing (actually recovering) a rom from SD is safe and simple. With recovery we could do these by ourselves.

Ok, then try the kitchen. It allows import of nandroids and once imported, you can mod it whatever way you want.

Well, the first step is done.. We now have recovery. Now when just need something to use it with.
I was looking through the different builds NAND, RAM and SD. Besides everything being wrapped up in .img's, the NAND ROMS have the same files. Comparing to the ONLY Flashable [.ZIP] ROM I see no similarities.
Maybe RaiderX303 or another DEV can put us in the direction we would need to go. Software, Files, Steps, Etc

Okay so... When you are referring to Nandroids and you referring to backups? We have 3 build types at our disposal right now... NAND, RAM, and SD.
What would we compile out of the ROMS the DEVs have provided to use?

The big issue to converting a NAND to UPDATE.ZIP is not about the files (just unpack boot.img and system.img and put the contents in the relative folders) but making the updater scripts specially for symlinks that ZIP not support so is needed that symlink are deleted and recreated on-the.fly by the updater script
updater scripts are under META-INF folder in the zip

Sorry guys
to make the updater scripts you have to understand a little bit about symlinks and packing/unpacking stuff.. otherwise will be a lot difficult
basically you just need to unpack the .img files and put the contents in the folders. than you need to creat/modify the scripts for the META-INF folder, that basically are different for any build.
that's it.
its always nice to see members helping each other.after all the devs are done marvellous job in recent days.

That's not very easy. You'd have to edit the intrid.gz and and zImage and other things to make it work. More effort than it's worth. What ROM you looking for? Is it a .zip SD card file or and Android folder type?

To the point - the fact you're asking this question leads me to believe you're not skilled enough to know how to perform all of the changes this would require.
My suggestion is you forget about the SD version and make the move to the NAND Android instead.
The DAF version is a way for Windows to put Android on your phone through the built-in bootloader onto the NAND chip on your phone. SD android is a completely different structure and you'll never find an "SD DAF" Android.
could you perhaps extract the system folder from the CWM zip, then use mkyaffs2image to build a system.img and drop that in place of the original system.img from the DFT version? (and teh same with the boot folder boot.img too, i would assume)
Or is that make believe?

Extracting the system folder from CWM zip wont work. Its because during the zip installation the updater script is beeing called and it creates a lot of symlinks. So, if you just extract and convert, you will miss the whole bunch of symlinks (and permissions, etc..)

The op is limited to usb only so yea, in this case we are limited to daf only, and he finds there isn't as wide range of daf roms, hence the perfectly reasonable question.

I'll assume your lack of English skills is the reason you've totally mis-understood every single thing i've written in this thread.
If I've missunderstood, it can only mean that even though it didn't sound like it, you do agree with me, in which case appology accepted, lets say no more about it.
I post this question in Taboonay 2.2. But I think it may be more appropriate in this Q&A section. Here it goes.
I like Taboonay ROM alot. But I need Acer Sync and this ROM has it removed.
Taboonay Tools has Acer Sync. But when I use Taboonay Tools to get Acer Sync, nothing happens. I couldn't get Acer Sync installed on the tablet using Taboonay Tools. So I am now back to the Stock ROM as Acer Sync is important for me to sync with my outlook contacts and calendars.
Thus my question is, how can I install Acer Sync on to Tablet A500 after Taboonay 2.1 or 2.2 ROM has installed? I already installed Acer Sync on my PC (downloaded from Acer).
I appreciate if anyone who can help me with this. Thanks in advance.
i would say to extract the apk file from another rom who has it and instal it using file explorer instal at system/app
make sure you have su permisiion on file manager app

You need to extract:
Acersync.apk
Acersync.odex
Acersynchelper.apk
Acersynchelper.odex
from a ROM that has it.
If I was doing it, I'd extract those files from system/app from a stock 3.2 ROM, and inject them into your ROM prior to installing it. That may get you where you need to be.

I did what you said I think:
1) Use root explorer to copy
Acersync.apk
Acersync.odex
Acersynchelper.apk
Acersynchelper.odex
from Stock ROM system/app folder to a external SD card
2) Get in ClockWorkMod and did Wipe Data/factory reset , Cache and dalvik before I installed Taboonay ROM (with updates to 2.2)
3) Use root explorer to copy the above 4 files from SD card to system/app
4) Change the permissions to include user's rights (all three)
5) click install
Then I get installation failed error.
If you get it work, please share with me how you did it. Thank you.

yw.
Why not use Google Calender Sync? Works really well for me. Syncs Outlook to Gmail which then the phone and tablet both readily work with. Not sure if it will do contacts though, if it does I blocked it from doing so very early on.

Thank you. I already did this approach. And it worked well. But I am trying to see if there is another way.

Hi all! Thanks for any and all help!
Quick info: Stock ROM 4.4.2 via OTA (LS980ZVC), Rooted, Nova Launcher and Xposed Framework. I've tried flashing other ROMs and it just didn't work so I went back to stock.
I'm not too impressed with the speaker and headphone volume on my phone. I didn't buy the phone for the sound, though, so that's a good thing. However, an improvement would be nice!
I've tried both the sound mods below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482750 - Root Explorer would not allow me to copy the file from my SD card to the proper location saying "copy failed!" each and every time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542398 - I flashed this and it soft bricked my phone. I got bootlooped because of it. Is there any particular reason, other than I just don't know how to flash right? (all kidding aside!)
Is there an easy way to get one of these two to work, or am I just stuck with the sound I have?
Again, thanks for any and all help, folks!
(I posted this in the Sprint G2 help thinking it was the general G2 help.. whoops... sorry for cross posting)
If it rooted, RE should work.
Make sure you check and change permission if needed.

RE works and I can navigate to the correct folder, as well as copy/paste the old file from /system/etc/snd_soc_msm to my SD card. Moving the file from the SD card, or copy and pasting, results in "Operation failed!" and no change. Permissions are good as far as I can see?
Try Root Browser instead.

I've checked everything on the system folder for permissions. No dice.

Same as above, no dice.
Just as a heads up, I downloaded Viper4Android FX and XHiFi, and that worked the treat to get the sound muuuuuuch more clear and tolerable from Pandora. Night and day difference, no doubt... although Pandora's bitrate isn't high, it's 100x more tolerable now.
