I have received a hty t4242+ from a chinese seller. I initially though it was a htc t4242!
I have manged to have the GPS working.
I have installed Tom Tom Navigator and I have some problem with it.
It tends to work a few minutes, then hangs a few minutes and so on.
It this due to a bug in the application, or a lack of resource in the phone?
Propably it's your phone.....since you said it is not an "official" HTC .....I have TomTom working on the Touch cruise since the beginning without any of the problems you mention.
Suggestion: spend some more money and buy the real thing......

Hi,
this is what works for me:
WM5: port 4, speed 4800, internal GPS receiver
WM6: port 5, speed 9600, Other NMEA receiver
In the settings: same data and check "automatic management" (or the like, I
have an italian OS)
Hope this can help

via Settings->System->GPS I can select the com port on my T-Mobile Ameo DE
on TomTom you choose other NMEA receivers.
hi
in settings under external gps it asks for
programs .> gps program port ????
Hardware -> gps harware port -> i set it to com 4 57600
access - manage it autimatically is checked
and gps does not get any setting s in google maps
just says seeking sattleites ????
Hi.
In settings>system>external GPS:
GPS program port: WM5 -> com4, WM6 -> com5
Hardware : WM5 -> none, 4800, WM6 -> none, 9600
manage it automatically: checked
In TomTom (GPS status):
WM5: internal GPS, 4800, com4
WM6: other NMEA receiver, 9600, com5
These settings work for my device, hope it helps.
Mauro
On Google Maps and Delorme Maps I get "searching for satellite" when the settings are right, but it hasn't locked-on yet. When the settings are wrong, I almost instantly get an error message. So I'm guessing if you see "searching..." you have your settings right.
As for finding a signal, the achille's heel on this unit is locking on when you are inside (either a building or even some cars). Outside or inside my car it will lock on in 20-30 seconds, sometimes sooner. Inside my house or office it will fail 98% of the time. The sirf/star unit attached to my Palm will lock on inside my house - in the middle of the 1st floor - in under 20 seconds.
I think with all the trade-offs they had to make to get all 4 antennas to work together without interference, the signal strength on the internal GPS antenna got the short straw. I have top-notch strength on the cell and bluetooth antennas, so obviously they got top priority. I don't use wifi so I don't know how well it works, but the gps signal strength could use some work for the future X7502...
GPS, TomTom
I have a T-Mobile Ameo and recently I have installed TomTom Navigator 6.
when I start TomTom it takes between 5-20 minutes before it gets connected with a satellite.
Is this normal, or is there a problem..?
if not, what should I do to resolve this problem..?
grtzz,
Avicenna
Just FYI, I am sure someone else posted this info elsewhere...but thought I'd share anyway.
I am using xplode's Windows Mobile 6.1 rom (WM6) on my Blue Angel (BA) and decided to play with Google Maps Mobile (GMM) with my TomTom bluetooth gps receiver (TT gps).
I already have TomTom Navigator software (TTN) v6.0.10 running on my BA with the TT gps without any issues: just turn on bluetooth radio on BA, turn on the TT receiver, start the TTN software and use!
Problem: my first attempt at using GMM with "Use GPS" feature on the BA didn't go so smoothly. The message on my GMM was stuck at "Seeking GPS Satellites (0)...".
Here was the solution (which may have been obvious to some, but not to me...since I am new to WM6):
(STEPS 1 through 6 are described in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...ngel_WM6_WizzardSettings_GPS&action=BackLinks)
1. Ensure Bluetooth (BT) radio on BA is ON. Ensure your TT gps is on.
2. In WM6, pair your BA and your TT gps. Make sure the Serial Port service is checked.
3. In WM6, set up an Outgoing COM port for the TT gps. Take note of this COM port (eg. COM6).
4. In WM6, assign a GPS program port (Start > Settings > Connections > External GPS > Programs tab).
5. In WM6, assign the COM port in Step 3 to the GPS hardware port (Start > Settings > Connections > External GPS > Hardware tab). The Baud rate was set to 115200 by default, which I left untouched.
6. In WM6, check "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)" in Start > Settings > Connections > External GPS > Access tab. This was checked by default on mine.
7. Start GMM. In my case, I only am using Wi-Fi, which will cause GMM to give me warning saying it needs a "data connection". If you only plan to use Wi-Fi like I do, just ignore it and the application will work fine.
8. In GMM, ensure that the "My Location Settings" has the radio button "Set by Windows (Via Start -> Settings)" selected. To check, navigate via "Menu > Options > GPS Settings...".
If it all works, you should see the following messages in succession:
"Initializing GPS..."
"Seeking GPS satellites (0)..."
"GPS active (N)..."
where N reflects the number of satellites found.
You can then use the "My Location" feature, just look for the blinking blue dot.
Hope this helps someone.
its works, perfect.
You need not follow such a complex procedure.
Simply pair your TT BT GPS, set it for serial port and com port to 6.
Go to GMaps, set is GPS setting manually to port 6 with 57600 or higher, thats all. Once you set use GPS on gmaps, all will start working.
OK, but what if I don't have any gps...
How can I make anything to get "my location" working?? Without gps?
Hi there,
I'm running TomTom6 (navigation) and Efficasoft GPS Utilities v1.2 (GPS-Tracking) on my MDA3 with WM6.1 from eplode. Everything works fine when it's running alone. But, when I'm running both at same time, only the first one which I started gets the GPS connection.
My GPS Settings are:
- Programs: GPS program port (none)
- Hardware: GPS hardware port (none) // Baud rate: (9600)
- Access: Manage GPS automatically (on)
I didn't try any other settings yet.
What I want to do, is running both at same time, so I can track the route and speed while using the navigation.
Does anyone has a solution...?
Thx Rossi
In the windows GPS settings don't split GPS correctly, you might need to use software like GPSGate (or maybe gpsproxy).
Thx, but where can I get this...?
Greets Rossi
Have you tried u2buy4less.com
After 2 days trying to make tomtom get a fix with me new (bougth used) Trinity without success, I installed GpsInfo to try to understand what was gps sending torough its comunicactions chanel (NMEA/COM9/4800), and found following:
It seems that NMEA sentences are sent 'without data', something like :
$GPGGA,,,,,,,,0,,,,,,*66
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79
On other pda, between every comma, there is a data/number, that I assume is the info thata the gps is sending....
For me it seems that gps has lost it´s configuration and is not able to send NMEA data, but it is working because I receive NMEA Start/End heads.
Is this assumption correct ???
If so anyone knows If gps chip(s) can be diagnosticated/reconfigured/reprogramated ??
P.S. It was bought with WM5 and Radio 1.38.
I've insttaled Radio 1.50 and WM 6.140 (Niax) and sympthoms are the same.
Any hint ???
Thanks
sorry i dont know the technical aspects of your question as far as reprogramming the gps but i do know that unless i have the following selected i dont get gps in any programs:
settings -> systems -> external gps ->
programs
gps program port : com2
hardware
hardware : com9
baud : 115200
access
manage gps automatically (yes, checked)
you might already have done this but i wanted to cover the first step before you go then, tell tomtom to look in com port 2. i also bought a used trinity with wm5 and no gps but those settings was all it took and now it works. good luck!

Trying to reproduce your config, tomtom says 'No Gps available'.
I assume you are configyring 'another NMEA GPS' and com2.
What velocity have you selected in tomtom?
thats funny ...
i think a have the problem ... its possible to navigate with tt but in the tt gps settings everytime he says no gps device but there is a connection. shown to me by the coordinates and like i said its possible to navigate. if i set up the gps new in tt there he detects the nmea gps successful but only 4 maybe 2 seconds. then its again no gps device ... sry 4 bad englisch ... any solution?
edit: well tt show me flight mode all time ... !
I have WM 6.1 and now my Tom Tom isn't working.
My TyTn II has Tom Tom Navigator. It was working but isn't at present since I transferred everything to a new memory card. One of the forums said I should set it up to use NMEA GPS receiver...how do I go about doing it?
Thanks!
gps
on your phone goto settings system external GPS choose a port (com 4 is mine ) on program tab then goto hardwear tab and choose hardware port ( mine is 7) baud rate move to 9600 then goto access tab and make sure there is a tick in the box manage gps automatically press ok
now start tomtom up goto change prefrances 3rd screen you will see show gps status press that then configure choose other nmea gps receiver press select slide gps baud rate to 9600 select done next screen is the 2 com ports you chose in step 1 on your phone choose the top port for gps is connected to and it should now all work
good luck

i had a similar problem when i changed my ROM from the windows mobile official 6.1 to a cooked ROM ( currently using Yardie 2.1) i was able to connect to tom tom with no problems in some areas it would take about 5 or 6 minutes to connect other times it would be much quicker, but after i installed my new ROM my tom tom sometimes connected and sometimes it didin't and when it did it would take up to 20 minutes. so i did some searching and found GPSGate 2.6 and now my tom tom always connects with in a minute, only a couple occasions it took a little longer ( i was in the mountains of NH,USA) i dont have the thread but if you do a google search for GPSgate you should find it. hope this helps.
Sorry to hijack this thread but I would like to know if it is possible to use the GPS receiver with the Tytn II with the TOMTOM 6 software or is the only option to use an external gps reciever?
hi there.
i don't know why, but i cant set "choose hardware port ( mine is 7)"
after every attempt to change settings the port is set to none.
what could be the reason?
