Arabic Language Support

Guys I would like to know if there is any support for Arabic language, I only need it to view the Arabic text and I wont use for typing.

You have to root your device first, then install font support Arabic.
To read SMS, you can install arabic SMS from Market.
To write SMS, you can install Arabic keyboard from market also.

The only thing that available now is to read and write sms , and if you just want to read sms go to the market and search for "sms" , you will find an application named sms with a pink logo , download it

What about Arabic support for Browser? Any luck in this one for the Hero?

Hindi SMS read

Hi,
I am not able to read my SMS if it is in Hindi. It shows a lot of boxes boxes all over. Can someone help me out with this. How can i Read and/or Write SMS in Hindi.....
Please help....

box - that means it does not support hindi font.
I think by installing hindi font you can solve this prob.

If you want to read an Arabic Website use Google Chrome & use Google Translator Extension..!!!
If you want Arabic font on your cell, there are many cabs available on variou ROM's just check out..!!!

Tamil font in android

I'm developing one new application. I want to display tamil font in android textview. Is there any unicode to support tamil lanaguage.

There is no default Tamil support in most of the mobiles, but Samsung Galaxy series supports most of the Indic languages such as Tamil and Hindi.
Also worth a look @ this page.

There are a few Thirukkural apps in the market that displays Tamil fonts in the app as well as in widgets. I'm not a Dev, so no clue how its done...
Swyped from my HTC HD2 running CM7 (Gingerbread 2.3.5)

That is not Unicode font you see in the application. They use TSCII fonts or Bamini font.
All you have to do is place them in the assets folder and use TypeFace to show the TSCII or Bamini font. Even the SETT browser works on same base.
I've developed couple of Tamil apps using this technology such as berlin suvar.

I updated to jp2 and now I can't read sms in Hindi.
stock eclair had Hindi sms displaying capability

If the phone is not rooted then these files can be extraxted using adb
adb pull /system/fonts/*.ttf
I hope at least somebody has indian stock eclair

Thank you. I got the same from the android bug conversation about Hindi. Somebody was kind enough to upload the ttf and post the procedure to get hindi back on galaxy 3 there. We all should go star that bug so that google provides us indian language support

No you don't copy hindi font in your system/fonts. To read hindi in your phone you should have font changer app. And copy this hindi font on your sdcard/.fronchanger folder and use font changer app to apply this font then you can use google translater.

To just read sms in hindi replace rename droidhindi to droidsansfallback and then copy it in system/fonts. Goes without saying that backup original droidfallback file before replacing it

This help you to read hindi sms. Any problem do you have.please tell.
