Cyrket is BACK - G1 General

Just thought you all might want to know, cyrket is back up.
http://www.cyrket.com/
He still needs to add back the ability to sort by date added, but it's good to have it back!

Great news! I love the simplicity of Cyrket vs AndroLib interface that's clogged-up with stuff.
By the way, technically the proper link is http://www.cyrket.com/m/android/

Yeah great news.

the info there is much more up to date then androidlib too....

Super Developers! (Like Super Friends)

I think if you can get A_C, Thundershadow14, tene, Slither2006 and some other developers in one to make the ultimate app interface that we will ever see.
Count Schaps in. He is working on such a project now too.
I'd love to be involved with the KILLER WinMo app too if possible. My strength is in UI/Graphics design, and I've recently released my VistaMobile theme to the masses. It's been downloaded a fair amount of times. Would be nice to create one "super-shell" without the need for Wisbar/FTouchFLO/S2U2/etc., but of course still having all of that functionality!
I know there's that "PointUI" app coming out, but I still think it could be better (it's in beta of course, so things may change)...
Hopefully 2008 will be the year that Windows Mobile puts the competition to sleep. Now we just need HTC to bring us the OMNI, or any dream hardware that goes above and beyond the Universal!
This is what I was thinking of doing. We have most of these apps in development we just need to add them all together. I know some of these apps are in different coding programs. I am sure we can find away to do it? I am a UI/Graphics design also but the more help is welcome b/c then each of us have a app to design but of course we all need to agree on the design too. I hope everyone that i mention in the first post is down on doing this. Also getting help from other developers too. if i didn't mention you that doesn't mean i don't want you to help i just don't want to mention everyone.
Thanks,
P.S.
OK PointUI pretty much took my idea on what i wanted to do with the finger scrolling!!! Darn Darn Darn. Anyway if we all put all our heads together I think we can come up with something unique.
Come on TENE, say something at least!!
and AC etc...
SPEAK OUT!
Don't forget two big developers from the early days Molski and Faria. started developing ROM's for the Wizard. And see Anichillus at www.anichillus.net/. he's working on a vista interface for the ppc.
A vista interface?! About time.I used to like eXPerience http://www.digitalexpedition.com/main/index.htm when I had the JAM. Maybe somebody could work on that app too....
I think we can all work on the PointUi project and make it the new interface for WM6.
It could be the ultime interface if we can replace the old interface of WM6.

My thought as well!
PointUI is simply amazing but it still needs a lot of development to be done.
SuperDevelopers > PointUi
PointUI - future app!
working together
well i need people to pm me if they are interested in doing this. i want to know if everyone wants to work together on this development. Now that pointui is out and winmo 7 just news release it maybe to late but i have seen lots of development of the new screen shots like schaps(today screen) , tenes(pocketcm) , a_c(s2u2) , thundershadow(PocketMelody) and slither(cube) that is in development but i cant mention everyone. if we can add this all in one Gui think this will be great app.

WM Dev ideas from new iPhone Apps

I just came across this and thought it was pretty interesting app for the iphone. Wanted to share it with the community just in case any of the developers in here are intending on working (or currently working on) a program launcher.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFITXsB56Z4
Two items that caught my attention was:
1) Home screen plug-in like cLauncher / iLauncher but with finger friendly scrolling feature. Scrollable up or down like PocketCM or flickable pages like in PointUI clock/calendar/tasks.
2) Click on the edge and it has a Mac dock style launcher. Would be nice to have a button in the tray that when tapped could popup a launcher like this.
Or heck...why not have a Finger Friendly Start Menu?? What is the #1 application that all of us use on daily basis? Of course...our Start Menu.
As a website developer I like having people show me new website ideas. It helps inspire me. So just wanted to do the same when I come across something that might interest you Devs in here
Nice !. I wish we had something similar for wm6
Damn.. iPhone's UI is already awesome and they're making it even more awesome! When are we going to see such quality in WM's UIs? *sigh* The moment thay make an iPhone with 3.5G. I'm getting one!

u'll have to wait till 2009 or 2010 for it as its the release year of WM 7 a.k.a Touch
Yup kinda sad that all these iphone hackers/developers have a big advantage. They don't have to fix the OS like our Devs do. Our WM devs are handicapped in that way.
We do have a lot of great non-finger friendly apps out there, but just nice to have these iphone-esque apps for the quick tasks that shouldn't entail us taking out our stylist or use the slide out keyboard.

New UI.

HTC designed Sense, and it's popular..but one question that has been on my mind for a while is, why haven't we designed something of our own yet? We hack, mod, and theme Android and Sense, but wouldn't it be cool if somebody just built a whole new UI? What kind of manpower would that take to do?
A full custom UI is probably pretty complicated to create and requires not only knowledge of the code but also graphics and design skills.
We have some talented dev's on the Android theme I figured we would have seen it by now.

I don't think the devs want to spend soooo much time and effort for something they won't be properly compensated for...
most devs either excel at coding and therefore create apps and ROMs, or they excel at graphics and therefore create custom themes and such.
I have a side project that I am trying out something on. That's about it for now. But it's not something you, SystmDcln, would like though. Current time frame is for Q1 of this year but that does not belong in this forum or this section of the forum.
With that said, I am going to say the following things and they are in no particular order.
1. Making a UI require both programing, understanding of the system and graphics.
2. Building an UI also require time. Time = money etc... you see where this is going...
3. People spend hours making UI and only half of people will like what they did. The other half will dislike it and why waste time for no reason.
4. HTC BOUGHT out a UI making company a few years back and they paid in the millions for that. Why? To make sense UI.
5. A good UI is hard to come by. I prefer clean and in 3 colors; black, white and gray. HTC likes colorful stuff (look at sense ui).
There will be more.... I'll come back...
i'd be happy to put together any images. just gimme a round-about design idea, file type, and the size. photoshop and illustrator are fun for me to play with, and i'd be flattered if other people wanted my material on their phones.
i don't code though. got out of that a loooooong time ago. haven't looked back
I get what you mean. However, I look at Android sorta like the Linux community..there is like more distro's of Linux than most can keep count of all free and customized to particular needs..would just kinda like to see some of that with Android.

Dude, its still way new. You say look at the linux com., yah and look how long they been around...
There ARE some very talented people in here, give them credit for what they HAVE done, its amazing already, and they didnt get paid by google like these current engineers have been. Move to another OS (or older phone aka g1) for more options.
Down the road im sure there will be mannny awesome things to come about. But relax for now.

I'm not referring specifically to Nexus One but more or less Android as a whole. And I do give credit to people like Cyanogen etc who have done some really neat things.

all those distro's are backed by a whole organized team of devs. Most devs you find here either work completley alone, or simply communicate with other devs for help and advice. They usually do not for an organized team for development.
Are you talking about something like Home++ or GDE?
Sounds like the "UI" that you're talking about is just a launcher/home replacement...which is already available on the market....

CYANOGEN MOD, reinventing the wheel?

Hi, at the risk of starting a massive flame war, please dont, I'm just after information...
Being that the S2 stock ROM is already pretty good and we already have a number of decent ROM alternatives I am wonder what else CYANOGEN is going to bring to the party.
I have read all the spiel so I am not looking for the usual answers, what advantages exactly does it have, will it have, say over COGNITION when COGNITION Is fully working with video, games etc etc and has decent battery life. Doesn't have the CM7 messaging but I prefer K9 stock anyway.
I am also surprised that people are already using CM7 looking at the amount of DEV that still needs done.
I tried a CYANOGEN port on my old HD2 and I was left thinking what all the fuss was about, i'm probably missing something huge here, or CYANOGEN is really for advanced users or something.
Again, please keep this thread clean and calm
Please just go through the threads and read. It's all there. I won't rewrite the book. In short though, think a year from now. Cognition is based on stuff samsung released. What happens when samsung moves on? Cm7 will still be pushing the latest goodies.

I'm not going to lie I never understood the hype of cyanogen rom. I have also tried with an hd2 and wasn't blew away and didn't see anything special. I think cyanogen mod is for people looking for aosp.
I have much respect for that team though because as far as I know there roms are built from ground up. Unlike most custom roms sgs2 have are really just themed stock roms with a couple tweaks.

you should probably stop wasting space here and go to cyanogen's site and read what it is about. if it doesnt interest you after that you dont have to think about it ever again. no need for threads like this, it just makes you look bad because you obviously have not spent any time researching and educating yourself before asking this question.
Isn't Android reinventing the wheel? iPhone was here first, and Android is just duplicating iPhone functionality. Google should shut down the Android project immediately.

Bingo!!! Some of us don't want to use crapware installed by the manufacturer who is really not a software expert, just a hardware expert, and want to come as close to the stock Android experience as possible. For me personally, things like hold volume button to skip to next song, switch between percentage battery and analog battery anytime you want, a very advanced OS theming engine which doesn't require you to flash anything to change the theme, always being on the bleeding edge of new Android releases/bugfixes etc. is the icing on top of the cake.
However, it's really about the excitement of checking the commit logs of the nightlies everyday to see what's new.
Yeah I never understood what the hype was all about either, don't get me wrong its a great aosp Rom and I give the devs a world of credit, but it feels like a number of things are just incomplete.
It has a few features that aren't found on most roms and runs quick as Hell, but if your looking for an in depth user friendly experience I would not say that this is the best for that as it lacks a lot of simple things you might be used to if your coming from a sense or some other kind of based rom
All I can really say is back yourself up and give it a try for a day or two and if you don't like it then just go back.
CM has only just come out, and is far from stable, and only really should be used if you are willing to help debug or want to live on the bleeding edge
We want CM for when samsung have abandoned us.
Its always good to have options!
Each rom, whether its a "themed" stock rom, or a ground up one like CM7 offers something different.
The obvious advantage has already been mentioned - once SGS2 goes EOL for Samsung, CM7 will continue to support newer versions of Android till as long as the (very) capable phone hardware can handle it.
There are improvements... for some... e.g. the native Samsung bluetooth stack doesn't work with Wiimotes... for instance... i believe CM7 and know MIUI does...
Its really a case of... pick and choose... no1 charges for these... try...as many... if you like one... say thanks to the Rom maker... and possibly a small donation!!!... and stick with it...
Thanks everyone, thats pretty much what I thought, nothing special compared to a good feature packed cooked ROM but very useful in the future when sammy stop updating, I just thought I was missing something huge the way people get excited about it.
Will stick with COG for now until CM7 is looking fairly complete and then give it s roll.
yeah its all about when samsung abandons the device. in addition, it also is about running a fully open source ROM on your phone. once the cyan rom gets stable, each night it will be updated with a change log, so gives you the ability to constantly be seeing the fixes to the software actually running on your phone. something you dont like? commit to the code, and it may get merged into the repo. its about having total control over the device you are using, seeing every little feature, the code for it, how it works, and ability to modify it if you want.
of course it also has some good features too. but the above is what i think the point of cyan is.

Getting Sharps new Feel UX to our phone?!

I don't really know if you guys have seen it, Sharps Feel UX that the american design company FROG developed for them?
This would be an awesome thing to get to our phones, if we can get it ported. Since I don't know how to fix it all, I was thinking maybe there's a developer somewhere out there who knows.
I'll post a link to it, and people can discuss it, I think it looks so awesome, the UI is something completely new, and it has this smart lockscreen. Well, all I can say is, even though it's a "shell" UI, it's one of the best looking I've ever seen.
Oh goddammit, since I'm a "new" member (which I'm not, been a member here for ages but haven't been posting much, I'm not allowed to put up links, so if anyone want to see it, they can Google it, or just send me a PM and I'll give you the link, the video can be found on Vimeo by searching for "Sharp AQUOS Android Smartphone - Feel UX".
I don't think it's out even in Japan yet. Too soon to tell.
Would love to get that phone just for that interface! Love it!
Yeah, I know it hasn't been released yet, but I thought it would be good for our dear devs to know about it some time before, to decide if it's worth trying to get ported to our device.
It seems like the phone itself looks quite nice aswell.
it would be awesome to have it on our SGS
That is an awsome UI. Hope someone will port it.
