Newer versions of manila 2.5 have an issue regarding the facebook infos (like birth date and photo) not syncing with outlook contacts. I've been googling and browsing my registry and found this registry key HKCU\Software\HTC\People\FBUpdating, the default value is "0" and I tried to change it to "1" but after a soft reset it goes back to "0". Maybe this could be the key to properly sync the facebook and outlook contact.

For it to work you need to soft reset after changing the value, problem is before you can update the facebook/outlook contact in manila the value has already changed to "0" again. If only we could stop the value from changing by itself, then I think it should work.

hey, maybe if the cooker do this befor building the rom it can stay on, why dont you suggest that to your favorite chef and tell us
that key looks like a status indicator for when facebook is downloading info and updating. hence is why it resets on a softreset because you are no longer updating.

Hi there, I was wondering if somebody would know how to change the default PIM client to be used in WM5?
Detail of the problem:
I sync my Wizard locally at home with Outlook 03 (Emails and Contacts). Then, I installed GoodLink which sync with my work's Exchange.
After the installation of Goodlink, both the "Calendar" and the "Contacts" softkeys, when you press them, are now replaced by "GoodCalendar" and "GoodContacts".
I use my personal Contact list that is at my home's Outlook mostly. So knowing the 112/113 registry trick, I modified the "Contacts" softkey on the today screen to bring up the bulit-in Outlook's Contacts again. However, on the dialer/dial pad screen, the Contacts softkey (on the left), if I press it, it would still bring up GoodContacts.
This makes me think that there is a setting in WM5 for a default PIM client - wether the built in one or something else. This is really annoying me because I use Goodlink only for Email. All other Calendar and Contacts etc are on my outlook...
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ken
Can you not sync diectly with the Exchange server instead of using the add on software, believe there is an option for this in Activesync
You could go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai in a regeditor and edit the relevant keys.
Thanks for the reply.
I just checked the contents under Rai in the registry. They look un-modified to me.
Example: The "1" in :MSCONTACTS still reads :MSPOUTLOOK -contacts
"1" in :MSCALENDAR is still :MSPOUTLOOK -calendar
If it ain't these, could it be something else?
Thanks.

And what do you have under :MSPOUTLOOK ?
BTW on mine there are no "-" so its ":MSPOUTLOOK contacts" and ":MSPOUTLOOK calendar".
I don't know why I typed the "-" in there, but it's not there.
For :MSPOUTLOOK, "0" is MSPOutlook, "1" is poutlook.exe, "2" is 1, "3" is 0, "4" is 00 A8 F9 B0 11 06 C6 01
Thanks again.

FYI Goodlink is an instant push email service - it is a little different then what ActiveSync on exchange can offer (as of now at least).
After you install Goodlink on the handheld, basically it has it's own entire Outlook-Like engine. It's own calendar, contact, notes, email, tasks which I think the interface is better than the built in one.
Again, the problem is, let say Contacts, I have one from GoodLink, one from built-in outlook. Right now everything is mapped to the Goodlink's engine. On the Today Screen, I can use some button mapping software to override the hardware and soft keys. BUT, on the dial-pad screen, the softkey on the left - "Contacts" - would still bring up GoodLink's contacts.
I tried a bunch of button mapping software that are currently available for WM5 but none can fix this.
Also, another strange thing is, after you install GoodLink, it DID NOT CREATE 112/113 keys to map the softkeys - those registry don't exist.
So it must have done it by some other method - like specifiying a default client...
Ken
Have you actually checked the shortcuts that those programs refer to. I think the POutlook shortcut points to the goodCalendar program not the outlook program. If you changed the link it may work. I hacked around with this on another device running good but have not tried it on the wizzard.
I just switched from GoodLink to ActiveSync for email, contacts, etc., but the left and right softkeys on the today screen still try to launch the Good calendar and Good contacts. I removed these files so I just get an error message. Any ideas how to remap these keys to Outlook Contacts and Outlook Email without reinstalling the rom?

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113
Default value = the caption you wish
Open value = shortcut to calendar.exe
Thanks for the tip, but I can't seem to get it to work. I used vidya to edit the registry--it only showed 112, not 113. 112 was set to launch the goodlink calendar. I changed it launch the outlook calendar, but it didn't work. Then, when I soft reset, the registry reverts to launching goodlink again. Any ideas? Thanks again for the help.
Can you check your \windows\startup folder, unless you softreset before the changes you made were applied there is no reason to lose them. Unless a startup process reinitializes them. As for the 113 it's not there by default because it's already assigned to the contacts. Thats's why I thought that in your case it will be there (created by goodlink) and assigned to uninstalled programs. Another possibility is a running process that would hook the key events and transfer them to programs that no longer exist. But I don't even know if this possible under WM5 (it's very easy under Windows)
Here are the programs in my startup folder:
CapNotify
poutlook
sddaemon
Services
smartskey
WiFiInit
I added 113 to the registry and set the left softkey to open the Calendar, and that worked for a bit, but then I changed it to open contacts and it started looking for Good Contacts again. I can't get any control of the right softkey.
It doesn't seem like any of the startup programs would remap the key, but my understanding of this OS is pretty minimal.
Any more ideas?
Update: It seems that if I set the right softkey to anything but Contacts it will work. If I set it to contacts it looks for GoodContacts, no matter what path I enter. As far as the left softkey goes, I can't get it to do anything but look for GoodCalendar.exe.
I'm 99,99 % sure that the culprit is smartskey...
I just hope that it's a shortcut you have and not the exe file, otherwise you won't be able to delete it. If it's the case kill the task with a task manager and then delete it from the startup folder. Let us know how it goes, but I'm pretty sure that you are almost there
I gave up and upgraded the ROM. Thanks for the help in any case.
I am using the true Google Sync that goes through active sync server settings, not the gsync.cab. It works much better than the cab but I've noticed a big annoyance. Everytime it syncs it changes the sort by back to last name, first name in outlook on the phone. I tried the fileasfl.cab and it still just reverts back every time it syncs. Any idea how to fix this. I originally did the outlook sync fix where you change outlook on your PC to file by first name and then re-sync it with your phone, but Google undid all of that.
I'm using a CDMA Diamond Stock ROM 1.22.557.1 with WM6.1 build 19972.1.2.7 if that matters.

I think I know why this happens.
Google uses just one field for a contacts name.
You dont have separate fields for First Name and Last Name.
Also the contact photos loses clarity after sybcing with google via active sync..
The contacts photo thing is very disappointing. I find that the contacts I had on my G1 display First Last properly, but the ones that weren't do not... very strange. I still absolutely love this ability though!

the only quick fix is to use Shubaroo Contact Changer change contact order in 1 click... hope it helps!

I felt the need for this thread as i have posted the solution i found (somebody else may have discovered this) in many of the Leo (Manila 2.5.1919) thread, but some people fail to read and kept asking the same question over and over. Hence in a way i feel i can help the ROM chefs L26HDLEOV2, Dutty LeoR5, Miri R10 etc.,
I use microsoft myphone to back up and restore contacts and calendar entries. the strange thing is, I found this entry while editing a contact
1. in Manila, open a contact
2. click edit contact,
3. scroll down to the very bottom and click "more" (you'll be brought to the windows contact editor)
4. click "Notes" - a strange entry is noted - "<<FDMID>9895967</FMID>" - I simply deleted this, and VOILA! i could add this same contact now to favorites without crashing!
i think i should get a copyright for this discovery!! LOL
this might only be applicable to people who are testing Manila 2.5.1919 and using microsoft myphone to backup contacts and calendar entries.
found a much quicker way to delete this note string "<<FDMID>9895967</FMID>". log in to microsoft myphone in PC and delete the note string to any contacts which contains this.

i disagree with you - i use L26 V2 rom and i also have that string on my favorite contacts notes and i can add or remove favorites with no problem.
more than that - i did wtaht you suggested. i deleted that string from my favorites notes (on phone and on pc outlook), soft reset the phone, delete a favorite contact, add again, sync and guess what?
the string is back on place
so it must be something else

This string is being added by Manila to allow it to identify favourates and link it to any facebook profiles you have. This string will always be created once added to your favourites.
THis string format could have changed between builds, resulting in some users devices hanging.

you probably are right, but my point is that, as far as i am concerned, this string doesn't cause the crash
i had a stock rom which originaly created my favorite contacts
since then i flashed several roms and i restored my contacts every time with my pc outlook
i had not one single crash caused by adding favorite contacts no matter waht rom i installed
this is the reason i said "it must be something else"

yes, perhaps this "something else" is unique to my method of backing up contacts. as i mentioned in the first post, i only backup using microsoft myphone.
BTW, there is another quicker way of deleting the note string, to those who use myphone. I logged on to myphone and deleted all the contacts which contain the note string. and now i can sync with myphone and add favorites with no crashing
All of a sudden none of my appointments appear in the HTC Calendar (inc. the Home page).
If I choose a day in the Calendar app I see one of them for a fraction of a second, then it disappears.
I see them all in the WM Calendar app and even on the S2U2 screen, but not via the HTC TouchFLo apps.
Running WM 6.2 Sense 2.1 on TD2.
Any ideas ??????

His issue was with language support, since you're in DC I suspect your issue is different.
You can sync calendars with MS My Phone, Google Exchange Server, or MS Exchange Server
I gave up since this thread was the only place I read the same exact problem. I decided to just use the ms calendar instead of htc calendar since it was not a sync issue. If htc updates the calendar app I will try it then maybe it will fix it for me. the sleek look of htc calendar is the only thing better anyway.
Have you tried to sync using Google as an exchange server? Its working for me.
that is what im doing. the sync is not the problem as they appear for a second, they just visually disappear in htc calendar a second or less later. but the events are still in google on pc and if i open builtin calendar on tilt 2 then the events are still there as well. so i am sure it is not an ms exchange or activesync issue
I assume you've tweaked the "keep item on device" setting.
I would delete and reestablish your server. I have seen contact photos be slow to load or disappear but never any issues with calendars.
It could be an issue with your ROM retaining data and you may have to hard reset.

Just tried "keep item on device" setting, and same as before.
I don't think the ROM problem not retain the data since if I use standard ms calendar feature the events are still there. The ROM is getting the data from ms exchange and keeping the data but not viewable more than split second in HTC Calendar.
I just deleted the activsync server and re-setup but still same.
Resolution
I was getting the same results - OK in regular calendar app but only very briefly, if at all, on theTouchFlo screen.
As I wrote above that the problem was due to language issues.
I assume that what was happening was that there were some characters or content which was problematic and causing problems in some cases (TochFlo display). I have the feeling that even one problematic entry caused the others not to be displayed.
If you are experiencing the problem I would look at the content of the entries (or selectively delete them etc). to find out what is happening.

I found the problem but no solution to get what i want
i have the taskbar to show date and time so I change some reg entries one which tell the taskbar to show MMM dd screws up HTC Calendar. i assume HTC Calendar pulls the date info from the same place as the taskbar so it gets confused. So I can pick date and time in taskbar or HTC Calendar. I want date and time in taskbar mm/dd/yyyy then it works since that is the default but the year doesn't really fit even with extra spaces so I guess I'll have to choose one.
Problem Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\overrides]
"SSDte"="dd MMM "
What happens if you change the date format in your regional settings?
Does it change both WM and TF3D to match?
Strange! Glad you found the culprit.
yes iv been playing with this. The best solution so far is to use "dd MMM yy" in the taskbar. Then select this in the regional settings. Now HTC Calendar works...but this is only 99% success for me since I didnt want to wast 3 character spots in the taskbar for the _yy
I always know the year so it is waster space but I think I will have to live with that.
