Some Google ION Questions - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello everyone.
Just a few questions regarding the ION as it is my first Android device (thanks Dayzee!).
1) I believe it is currently on version 1.6 Donut. Is it wise to flash it to 2.0/2.1 or wait?
2) I'm not a developer but I got a developer device. What kind of advantages do I have over the standard Magic/MyTouch?
I done some research and believe that this is 32A (board version?) which means it has 192mb RAM. That's all I know about it.
That's about it for now
Many thanks in advance.

[Question] Android Tweaks?

I used to be a windows mobile user..
And i know that there were 2 options to make you phone faster..
1. change roms,...
2. apply tweaks...
And i used to do both on my winmo
I know there are roms available here, but some how i don't feel attracted to them.
Also because i like what my android version offers..
But, i would like it to be just a little bit faster.
And it made me wonder why i have not noticed any tweaks on xda for android.
Are there non that we can apply to any rom for optimization?
what android (ROM) do you have? IMHO best ROM for performance is amon_ra's ROM or pure android. Much faster then HTC. Don't install hero ROM...

I have the original Dutch Vodafone version of the HTC Magic,
I think its the "full google experience" version
CompCache is a good 'tweak' to optimise your memory:

Although it may not be necessary for you if you have the 288Mb Magic

Cyanogen on HTC Hero possible?

Hello there,
I am currently running the MoDaCo rom (which is a lot faster than the stock version from HTC).
Is it possible to run a cyanogen rom on the HTC hero? I have read something about 32A and 32B versions and to be honest: I do not want to brick my phone the first two weeks I have it
Anyone?
Chris
i would like to second this, if some chef knows som'tin bout this??
It may be possible in the future but at the time of writing those ROMs won't work on our Hero's so I don't suggest trying it.
When the Hero has been out a bit longer we are likely to see a lot more development for it one here.
Best advice, sit tight.

Some basic questions,

So basicly, I'm going to buy my first pda phone, the HTC Magic from Vodafone. Now I readed and watched videos about hacking android phones and etc but I'm stuck with 2 questions.
1, Can I use a 2.1 custom ROM on a 1.5 Official Firmware?
2, What ROM should I use on a 32B that includes video capturing with working bluetooth and multitouch?
A ROM is a Firmware file, so it overwirtes your factory installed firmware. and I dont know much about the 32b ROM's so, just do some searching in the android development section for the HTC magic. As far as i know majority of 2.1 ROMS will support muti-touch in the browser and sometimes Maps.
One of the most popular 2.1 roms would be cyanogenmod 5.0.8, which has full support for the 32b mytouch.
I know it supports multitouch on maps and browser for sure

[Q] I mistakenly bought 32b magic, help me to make decision!!

Hi everyone,
I have bought vodafone magic from ebay and just after I bought it I found out that vodafone (Australia) magic is 32b with 192mb RAM.
I really want to flash custom rom on it but I'm quite disappointed knowing that the phone I bought has lesser RAM. I'm in the middle of making decision whether to sell it back and get 32a model or stick with 32b.
Before I root and install custom ROM, can someone please share their experience with 32b model.
1. Is 192mb actually enough? fyi I want sense UI.
2. Will 32a device perform significantly faster than 32b?
3. A bit out of topic but is it true that I can flash most HTC Dream/G1 rom to my magic? Isn't there supposed to be different file for different phone?
Please help me make decision. Your opinion is highly appreciated =)
hey there. you can use it with cyanogenmod 6 rc2 (most recent) very well. runs faster than 1.6, which is istalled when you buy it. most g1 roms run smooth on magic, otherwise the developer mentions problems
the 32b won't be any slower, but it will faster beginn to kill unused apps in the background. with swap and compcache you will propably won't register any difference between 32a and 32b.
Thanks for your reply, that's very helpful.
Just to make sure, when you say most g1 ROM is compatible with Magic, does it mean that the same ROM will run on both magic 32a and 32b?
Because when I see Magic ROM thread, most of them are specific to only 32a or 32b, or when they support both model they will provide separate file.
There are some G1 rom that doesn't say if they are compatible to magic, so im not sure if I can use it for 32b.

[Q] ROM Recommendation (32A, New Radio, FroYo)

Hey guys. Please bear with me and this sort of topic. I have a friend who has a Magic and recently rooted his phone. He's looking for a Stock FroYo ROM for a 32A running the new Radio (6.35, I believe), and I think asking you Magic experts is the best thing to do.
Can you post links to a few FroYo ROMs you recommend? Thanks. I appreciate it.
Just start looking. Just make sure that it meets the requirements of being for 32A devices. Some ROM's won't specify a certain radio, but some will. Just make sure you read through the thread once you find one that interests you as the dev should list any radio/SPL requirements.
