Hi everyone,
I have bought vodafone magic from ebay and just after I bought it I found out that vodafone (Australia) magic is 32b with 192mb RAM.
I really want to flash custom rom on it but I'm quite disappointed knowing that the phone I bought has lesser RAM. I'm in the middle of making decision whether to sell it back and get 32a model or stick with 32b.
Before I root and install custom ROM, can someone please share their experience with 32b model.
1. Is 192mb actually enough? fyi I want sense UI.
2. Will 32a device perform significantly faster than 32b?
3. A bit out of topic but is it true that I can flash most HTC Dream/G1 rom to my magic? Isn't there supposed to be different file for different phone?
Please help me make decision. Your opinion is highly appreciated =)
hey there. you can use it with cyanogenmod 6 rc2 (most recent) very well. runs faster than 1.6, which is istalled when you buy it. most g1 roms run smooth on magic, otherwise the developer mentions problems
the 32b won't be any slower, but it will faster beginn to kill unused apps in the background. with swap and compcache you will propably won't register any difference between 32a and 32b.
Thanks for your reply, that's very helpful.
Just to make sure, when you say most g1 ROM is compatible with Magic, does it mean that the same ROM will run on both magic 32a and 32b?
Because when I see Magic ROM thread, most of them are specific to only 32a or 32b, or when they support both model they will provide separate file.
There are some G1 rom that doesn't say if they are compatible to magic, so im not sure if I can use it for 32b.

Think some of you might know that HTC will be releasing an update for the sense ui for the htc magic, just a quick question is after the release will there be improvements the the overall performance of the current hero roms ?
Heres another quick question is that i rooted my phone and when the update i out, i need to have it to receive the updates so how do i unroot it to get it ?
I have the same questions about updates please. Now that I've rooted my 32A magic, is it possible to download the updated rom and install it from the htc official page? Or is there a way to unroot the phone.
Thanks....
I think it depends on if the release is for the 32A or 32B magic since the 32B has less memory, the 32A hardware is almost the same as the hero, thats why it runs better on those devices....I got my fingers crossed for a release for 32B
Anyone have any idea when this will be out?
i heard october... on a side note.. im trying to find out how to UnRoot my 32a.. i found a ton on 3gmytouch and g1 but cant seem to find out for rogers magic 32a
i would assume any new release of sense would have a performance boost, that being said, the mytouch, with less memory, will probably still have dificulties running sense. While we can all hope that one day sense will be optimized to the point that it is fluid and stable on these devices, we can still try and work with ROM developers in trying to get it running w/o htc's help. Like touchflo 3d and 2d, it shouldn't take long to port it, and make it stable on more devices. Just patience
It was said that HTC Sense will be available only for HTC branded devices, so only 32A, not 32B.
I think if you still have original SPL and recovery on the phone, there is no problem to unroot it. You need just original, not modified rom. Here is a nandroid backup of clean, original system from my HTC Magic 32A from Orange PL, should be the same ROM as in Rogers Magic:

There is no point of unrooting your phone to receive the update, just wait and when it comes out, someone here will get ahold of it, hack it, enable root and post it up as a rom for everbody and then you can just flash it like any other rom
I have a question regarding the Dev section in the Sapphire forums. I'm coming from the Dream forums and it's little bit more developed than here. I'm researching rooting my wife MT3G and noticed that some of the roms are labeled as so [32a], [32b], or [32B](MT3G). I'm wondering if it's labeled 32B is it alright to flash on the MT3G or should I only flash ones that specifically say they're for the MT3G? I've searched all of the forums and cannot find any specific answer (Dream forums are pretty ruthless with n00b questions that are easily searched) Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Bump for help
you should be good with anything that is labled 32b or any of the latest cyanogenmod roms.
myTouch 3G = 32B
myTouch is just the branding of a Sapphire 32B. 32B phones are identical to the G1 as far as specs go, the 32A is identical to the Hero (and is VERY uncommon in the USA). If you root the phone using my method here you will be ready to be using CyanogenMod Stable, CM Experimental, or my new favorite, the Dizzy Hero v1.5.5.
I should have a MT3G by Thursday. Just wondering after CM4.0.4 is installed, can I go ahead with installing his Pimped Out Recovery 1.4.1?
Awesome thanks guys!
The 32b has 192MB of RAM, while the 32a has 288MB. As far as I know, the T-Mobile USA phones are 32b, while the Rogers Canada phones are 32a.
Also, keep in mind that the Canadian 32a and USA T-Mobile 32b use different 3G frequencies.
I've already rooted the phone using Cyanogen's wiki. Here's my phone info from fastboot:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPH31000)
CLPD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02

Couple things I'm not clear on:
1. The whole 32A/32B thing. For example, I have a 32A, but I can only flash 32B roms. Flashing a 32A rom makes it hang on black screen after the HTC Magic logo.
2. I've read that the MyTouch 1.2 and Fenders are all 32A. I've also read that for the phone to work properly, the stock SPL and radio have to be used. If that's the case, how are people running the 32A ROMs in the development section that require different SPLs and radios?
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how to flash a 32A ROM on my MT3G 1.2 phone if they require non-stock SPL/radio and when I'm reading that I can't use anything but stock versions.
I'm probably mixing up old and new info, but I'm really confused. Flashing my Nexus One is so much easier
you got it mostly right.
The mytouch 1.2/Fender is a hybrid magic. It has the mainboard of the 32a (with 288mb RAM), but the radio of the MT3G 32b/G1, a new touch screen driver, and the 3.5mm audio jack.
So, really, someone named Zinx was able to make kernel patches to make it work. These patches were applied the CM 32b kernel. So any rom based on CM5.0.7test 2 kernel or higher has the needed drivers to work with the 1.2/fender le.
the true HTC magic 32a has a different radio. This is why the dev section is mostly of 32a with old radio/new radio ROMs. the 32b phones are just G1 with out the keyboards...
Basically you need to find ROMs that have been "ported" to run on the 1.2. I can recommend Cyanogenmod 5.0.8-DS. As it works really well. Make sure you look for the DS (dream/sapphire) one.

So that means I'll never be able to run a 32A ROM on this phone, which means I'll never have my full 288MB RAM available?
Thanks for the replies! It's starting to make more sense to me. And here I thought I was going crazy
Currently I'm running jojotm's Minimou with pershoot's updated kernel and it works very well. It's faster than I expected it to be which is just fine for my wife. I have a Nexus One for my needs
No, the kernal or a ported ROM will let you use the full RAM.

So awhile back on the Cyanogen Wiki, i read that the MyTouch 1.2 had a different touchscreen manufacturer than the HTC Magic or original 32B MyTouch3G, and that 32B ROMS would work with no touchscreen, BUT, i flashed a ROM from the G1 section, which is a 32B port of the stock Rogers 32A HTC Magic 2.1 Sense, and it WORKED. I read through the entire thread, and nowhere did it say "MyTouch 1.2 support", leading me to believe that i was the first to try it.
Basically what i ask is this: Since that particular 32B ROM worked with no touchscreen problems, can i flash any 32B ROM?
EDIT: An idea just popped into my head, is it possible that when i flashed the Stock Cupcake ROM for root, the Touchscreen drivers were somehow permanently embedded in the phone?, if so, BADASS!
(Testing different ROMs should be fun!)
I'm not a dev so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I believe flashing a 32b rom makes it so that you only have 192mb (or whatever the b had) of ram instead of 288mb, and will eventually cause memory leaks or something like that after being on for a while.
If you run into issues, that might be why.
Which is the fastest rom aviable today?
Acutally i use:
[magic ROM][32A][3.22]CM6 blaster edit
but it is the slowest rom i have ever seen.
Hi,
I have read that Rushness' FroSense is the fastest. But I am not 100% sure if it is for the HTC Magic 32A.
Anyone care to clarify this?
Dreamteam froyo in the g1 section.should work on 32a but I dont have a 32a to test on.
Wow... Ok. Thank you so much for the recommendation.
I will go and test it out once I can confirm that it run on the 32A.
After my testing, I will feedback my findings here.
