will any rom do QNC and GPS ? i have read that its a broken DLL and others that 6.1+ will and wont support QNC or Q2C
i having a hard time finding any info relating on the roms out there/here.
i want/need a rom that will do GPS(no data or thru QNC) and QNC (real QNC not DUN or "free" and alot of minutes with bone slow net). keep the wifi and bluetooth available.
not needed but would be nice if windows was well trimmed and speedy (unless WinMo is less of a hog than normal) and replaced with like opera mini and a lite player that doesnt get chatty with the mothership. maybe a mini game emulator for fun like MESS (but good) but that maybe hard to find
i will be doing per minute on page plus and REAL data is not in the budget and i expect to use xv6800 on IM and email mostly maybe find a weather and such not exactly heavy data use. being a former crapfone customer anything will be a improvement.
thanks a heap in advance .. if anyone can confirm it working on a release ROM or suggest a ROM that might meet what i need GPS, QNC, wifi
Moved as not ROM Development.
aye but directly related to rom devolpment and its effects on phone features
But your question is not related to discussion on a specific rom. And I haven't heard of anyone using a mogul for qnc. All new rom are gps capable with a radio of 3.xxx
the 6.0 winMo works for QNC but no GPS. 6.1+ may have a problem with the QNC.
since the main reason to flash cooked ROMs is to unlock features or make REPAIRS or improvements . the main question is do any of these ROMS 6.1+ address the fixes that i want, namely GPS and QNC along with other percs like trimmed and speeded up OS.
i suspect since there was greater problem with QNC on 6.1 that it was broken by vzw to force us to pay an aditional 30$ ++ for high speed, i know right vzw wouldnt disable features to make people pay a extra monthly fee... thats why i asked in the ROM section as i wanted to know if that was addressed
as for not knowing anyone using the titan mogol 6800 for QNC lmao. if it wasnt for QNC i doubt people would buy such old phone .. a ENV or touch pro can be had for about the same $
and if i was asking about a specific ROM i would place it in the thread related to that ROM.
I haven't seen discussion on qnc. Just unlock your phone try a rom like dcd 3.3.4. If it doesn't work with qnc then go back to you present rom.

Anyoen else having problems with ROM 2.09.651.3 radio: 1.32.00 with Sprint? When I use .NET applications like ConnectWise and open the keypad, it types in symobols and is a known issue with, HTC, Sprint, ConnectWise.
I called Connectwise and they have their patch ready, but are awaiting the ROM upgrade from Sprint to test. I called Sprint and the awesome TS lady told me that you never have been able to upgrade ROM on any phone... ever... I promptly hung up on her and called HTC. They said they Sprint develops the firmware and HTC has already "given" it to them. Contacted Sprint again, and they said it was a known issue with the phoen, but have no clue when the ROM will be updated....
I know you all have better connections then I do, obviously if I am calling TS for Sprint, and was wondering if anyone knew when the enxt version of Firmware is comming out. I could care less about the GPS, I do care about EVDO Rev-A and various other fixes.
This is a huge problem... anyone else having these issues with .NET programs on their Sprint Mogul?
check out the Hard-SPL thread in this forum. then you can load an alltel rom and i can confirm that the .net 2.0 keyboard problem is fixed. Also, the radio version in that rom is 1.40. If you have any problems you can always go back to the sprint rom so give that a shot.

Have you tried the alltel rom yet? Im curious as to whats different from a sprint rom (besides the sprint junk) because I hear it has working (better) pic messaging and a few other updates compared to sprints current one...
There is a thread on ppcgeeks where they compare the two. dcd posted a pretty long write up in one of them.
I have read quite a few threads over at ppcgeeks, and it still didn't help me out. What are the downfalls of the Alltel ROM? Does it in fact work with picture/video mail, what are the downsides of the Alltel ROM? If I have a problem with the phone, how do I get support or CAN I get support with that ROM?

As far as I've read so far, people seem to like the Alltel ROM better and prefer it over the Sprint one. It is a newer version OS than the one currently on the Mogul so it's probably a little better. I've been told that MMS does work in the Alltel ROM with a reg tweak for it to work with your carrier. As far as support, what do you mean support? Do you mean from Sprint? I wouldn't take your phone in to Sprint for repair/replacement with an Alltel ROM loaded on it. I don't think that would fly too well. No worries though, if you need to get support for you phone, you can always flash back to an OEM ROM.
Hope that helps!
Any word if it fixes sprints bluetooth fiasco?
Hey all..
I recently switched from Qwest to Verizon and they gave me a Blackberry 8330.. needless to say, we didn't get along - the Blackberry and I - so they sent me the XV6900 and now I'm wondering what all I can do with it
I used to run DCD's roms on my Qwest Mogul, but had to warranty replace the Mogul and when the new one came, Qwest released the GPS enabled ROM.. so, I used it with that stock Qwest ROM for a bit and lost touch here.
Questions:
I was talking to a few people about GPS (I want to use my TomTom 6 subscription on my XV6900) and they said they I could flash one of several ROMs available here but that I would not be able to flash back to the stock Verizon Wireless ROM should I need to.. is this true?

What is the most stable GPS enabled ROM available for the XV6900, if any?

Will I lose any functionality if I choose to use an 3rd party ROM on my XV6900?

Basically, the only things I'd like to 'fix' about my XV6900 are; I'd like it to use less resources & I'd like to use the internal GPS chip, if possible.
Thanks in advance, and.. please bare with me guys! I'm not completely new to this, I just couldn't find exact nswers to my questions when I searched.

I personally use Ghettoryder's ROM over at PPCGeeks. I like it because it maintains the ## codes, but you can also use the BuildOS app to cook your own ROM. In short, most of the GPS ROMs will not cause you to lose any functionality.
I'm lovin' my Rev. A and GPS here on Sprint.
I first off would like to start off by saying I'm in the market of getting a new cell phone, and am really interested in the touches. I'm a college student, so I really can't afford TOO much, but am just wanting some good bang for my buck, and I feel the touches are just what I'm looking for.
However, I really don't have much of a clue which I'm wanting to get. First off, my carrier is GSM (T-mobile). My concern is the number of applications or ROMs that the various touches have. For example, do roms and apps that are meant for the elf work on the Opal? I'm wanting something like the touch, but a bit faster, as I've heard many complain that the elf is a bit slow. Also, is the Opal considered the "Touch Enhanced"? There are WAY too many nicknames, and they are all very confusing for me.
Simply put, I'm trying to find a touch that can at least play youtube movies at good frame rates (from wi-fi), and run most apps or roms well. However, I don't want to buy a model of touch and realize that there are no real mods for it to "pimp" it out. I have looked around on the search, but I feel these questions are a bit too "common sense" to be easily found anywhere.
Lastly, I'm not interested in a data plan, as I'm mainly wanting to use it as a PDA (don't need push-email or internet everywhere I go). Frankly, I live in a city dominated w/ wifi, and will be covered by that everywhere I go. Without a data plan, what apps or features will I be missing out on?
I really appreciate ANY help. Thanks for everything!

To answer your other question - most apps and programs can work with any windows mobile device - Most programs will say whether they are Windows 5 only or 6 only or 6.1 only if so. Also screen resolution is a factor for some programs vga - qvga etc..
ROM upgrading is device specific - do not put a ROM intended for Opal on a ELFIN or a ROM for Elfin on a Vogue etc....... Despite there similarities, there are differences and they are different devices.
Thank for the response!
I've taken a look over those wikis, and they helped quite a bit. However, I'm a bit lost with the elfin. In concerns of updating ROMs, is it the same as the Elf? There is no board for the Elfin, and there's not much data about the Elfin. I understand the main difference is the increase in RAM, as well as the jump from wm6.0 to 6.1, but I've also heard that the elf is compatible with 6.1. Would elf roms work just fine w/ elfin? I know that's not the case /w most others, but it just seems to me that the site combined the two.
Lastly, I can imagine the best place to find a list of roms is on the boards dedicated for that specific phone. Are there any major apps or features that won't function if I am not on a data plan? I tried searching, but it seems the majority have plans, and the few that do not don't mention the downfalls. I understand there is no push-emailing or no internet everywhere, but do some apps flat out not work at all w/o a data plan? Will the apps that require internet work over wifi? I know blackberry is STRICT with what they limit you on, and I was wondering if it's the same case here?
Thanks again for the reply!

Actually, my elfin only came with Windows 6.0 not 6.1. With regard to Rom's I havn't upgraded mine ever, so I can't tell you much about it but that there are some WM 6.1 custom Roms available for the Elfin in these forums. Most are linked to the Elf forum and Elfin Rom's I have found in Elf ROM threads with Elfin ROM Links. I don't have a data plan with mine - Use only WIFI as there are tons of open WIFI networks in my area. I havn't yet found any apps that dont work over WIFI instead of using data plan but I havn't tried every single app out there yet. Most apps that require internet will work over WIFI though. I check my email, surf the web, use various weather apps, listen to internet radio and Sirius radio online and even use google maps etc... all work great over WIFI. I live in Canada so (rediculous data plans here) so do not have a data plan for that reason. Would love an unlimited data plan to be able to listen internet radio anywhere I go.
Wow.. you're a goldmine of information. I really appreciate all the help! I feel completely sold on it now. Thanks again!
Hi all,
I recently got hold of a Touch 3G for a friend, and he is having a few issues with the Unique / UMA connectivity (surprise).
My question, do any of the other Touch 3G ROMS out there (like the vanilla HTC one) have the UMA / Unique feature? or would we lose that function with a reflash?
Anyone out there done such a thing, there seems to be little info about UMA / Unique anywhere, I am surprised.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
there is little info on the unique stuff because it's fairly pointless and not very well done by orange.
I reflashed mine to a custom rom to get rid of all the orange customizations like that
Unique seemed a little pointless to me. I flashed to a normal HTC WWE ROM and was done with it. Obviously I still have wifi etc, and really, unique seemed pointless. In order to get the phone and not pay a fortune for it, you needed to get an expensive contract with lots of minutes anyway so you might as well use them.
Thanks for the responses
... but the reason for using Unique is NO cellphone signal at home, or in fact for a large region of the local area (you would not think we lived in the South East of England would you.)
So I take it that there is no UMA functionality in any of the better alternative ROMs for the Touch 3G/Jade, pity.
I know that there are a number of other threads on the subject, but any other thoughts on how to get the best out of it rather than abandon it altogether???
Cheers
MS
I would imagine that the unique part is just a few apps, I don't see a reason why one of the developers couldn't pull it out for you. and then you would just install the app on a cutom rom.
I don't know if this would work but i see no reason why it shouldn't it's just a matter of getting the right apps, in fact you could do it yourself.
if you look at the kitchen i think it tells you have to download you current rom and extract it, then find the right apps and try to install a custom rom and then install the apps.
it might work and you could alwasy go back if it doesn't.
I think i would keep the unique stuff on the phone if it wasn't for that fact that it makes the wifi so hard to use.
UMA on T-Mobile
Anyone figured out how to do UMA on T-Mobile?
I am new to phone flashing, but after all my reading I am so confused! That I have to ask for help. I want to run a Vogue on Reachout wireless it has to be CDMA so Vogue will work I do not think there is a Data Plan through them so I need GPS which Upgrade WORKS? And going to try Wifi SPEC TEC Mini SD Wifi card SDIO WLAN card if I can make it work. I am going through Interferon treatments and am very broke or would pay for service, Any Help would be Appreciated.
Current phone settings
Rom 1.15.605.14
Rom date 03/10/08
Radio 1.60.30
You'll definitely need to update your radio for GPS to work. While at it, might as well upgrade your ROM. Here's a good starting point:

Well I read this before and wondered if the roms are current enough or if I should use something else. Also saw this link

wondered which would be better
Progress With GPS
Well I managed to upgrade NFSFAN's WM6.5 1.00 FINAL ROM ! After reading and figuring out the steps, I must of read for a week . Radio now at 3.37.10 and GPS is working but not locking very fast at all! But will lock. Any way to better the performance a little
perhaps by using QuickGPS could accelerate the GPS work
