Rogers htc dream question

Herro..
I got the dream a 3 days ago, I like it alot..but after doing lots of searching my main question i cant find an exact answer for...
has the dream been rooted? If so is their a tutorial? I can only find outdated threads..
Secondly. which phone is better? I bought it as a spur of the moment thing, the guy at rogers saying both were the same..then I found out the dream is a older model, a t1..
I am still within 30 days, shouldi switch it for the magic? Does the magic have any major advantages over the dream?
Ty in advance
D
There are literally hundreds of threads in the Dream forum, the one above this one, with everything you'd ever want to know about the Dream aka G1.
The Magic is new to the market from April 09 in Germany followed by Spain, UK, Italy, France etc and now Canada. You should really check out both devices and decide for yourself. Personally I prefer the Magic and it looks better.
Best thing to do is go to Rogers and play with the Magic. I didn't even play with the Dream because I absolutely did not want a huge phone in my pocket. The magic is a nice size overall with the same screen as the Dream, only realy difference is the physical keyboard. It really is personal preference. I believe the Magic actually has more internal memory, 512MB vs. 192MB? Other than that no difference between the phones. As for rooting the Rogers Magic I know they have no figured that out yet, the Dream not sure about.

Which Hero Rom for Roger's Magic

Hey all! I purchased an unlocked Roger's HTC Magic for use with AT&T. It should be arriving in the next few days and I want to be prepared. I've browsed through the forums here and I haven't found any threads in particular to Roger's Magic Hero roms.
Can anyone point me to the latest and greatest Hero rom for the Roger's Magic?
I found some older threads talking about it having no Wifi support? That sounds crazy so I'll assume that has been fixed.
I also read online that Dounut 2.0 has been released with multitouch. That makes me wonder if I should wait for some Hero version with this latest junk included?
Anyways, I'll keep digging and appreatiate any links.
Looks like my problem was I was looking in the wrong forum fellas!

[Q] Installing CyanogenMod 6 on HTC Magic

Hi,
I would like to install cyanogenMod 6 on my HTC Magic. I followed every step cearfully on their wiki.
Suddenly i became suspicious. The whole thing is called "upgrade". I have never done anything to my phone. Do I need to install a more primitive version or do other prior steps before "upgrading" or can I go on.
Thanks in advance,
Swissman
well cyan 6 will be an "upgrade" from what your running now
you may need to downgrade to root, then upgrade, depending on what version of android you are sitting at currently...
just follow the steps on their wiki and you will be fine
Its just the section in the wiki (which I cannot link, as I'm new) is headed "upgrading from 4.1.9 to 6.0" or something very similar.
are you comming from cyanogen 4? or vanilla stock rom?
edit: sorry, read you havent done anything to your phone yet
so first you need to determine if you have a 32a magic or a 32b magic.. so follow this guide
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=How_to_determine_if_you_have_32A_or_32B
then once you know if you have a 32a or 32B
follow this guide for 32a
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_HTC_Magic_(32A)
or this guide for 32b
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_HTC_Magic_(32B)
you are doing the Full Update as you are not comming from an older version of cyanogenmod
ANROID 1.5 Original ROM 32 A Magic from Stock ... just finished doing the steps hope it works :S
hope it works for ya!!
Let me know if it works. I just bought a Magic yesterday off craigslist, thinking I was getting a great deal on my wife's first Android phone. I assumed it was just an unbranded MyTouch and didn't check it out for specs beforehand.
When I met the guy I confirmed it worked on calls and text, camera, etc. but didn't pay that close of attention to other things as we were both in a hurry.
Got home to find no Market or any of the Google apps, searched for info on the Magic and was pretty bummed to find out it did not have that stuff.
Spent about 3.5 hours with it last night learning and messing around, absorbing these threads and made my way to the Cyanogen mods and it would not take the 6.0 upgrade, kept aborting the install.
I put the 5.x Cyanogen on and now everything works! Very happy that A) I didn't brick it and B) it now has almost complete functionality. Only thing really missing is 3G, but my wife doesn't do any web surfing, so that shouldn't be a problem. In fact I am impressed that side by side it pulls better signal than my Vibrant!
I went from thinking I got ripped for $90 to feeling I did ok! Locally the MyTouch is selling in the $150-$200 range used, so $90 makes me happy even if it is no 3G.

YO - I am back and white!

So, long story short... I sold my black one a month ago, because I knew I wanted the white sgsII... but I have been out of the loop for at least 9 weeks....
that being said, I will be looking around later tonight when I have the chance.... but in the meantime, has much changed?
It is the white UK phone, is there a recommended firmware, easy root, cognition still rocking out? Feel free to let me know of any new tweaks, roms etc...
Any real "better" battery....
This is just a quick post, and I will search later... but you will be thanked accordingly for any useful input
thx
Hi I used to own a captivate (att galaxy s) and purchased a white galaxy s2 uk version as soon as it was released sept 1st and haven't been able to put the thing down. The white version is very good looking.
I've flashed a couple of different roms and have found Cognition 1.5.1 to be my favorite rom so far.
Sounds like you just need to spend a good half-day or so reading the stickies and most popular threads in the ROM forums.
If you look at the xda bookmarks in my sig you'll find official branded and unbraded ROMs, along with CF-Root. All 3 threads have clear instructions in the 1st (maybe 2nd) post, so just read carefully and you can't go wrong.
As for battery, people tend to freeze/remove the Samsung apps, and wifi-sharing is another biggie. I've found that just having recent firmware is enough to make a massive difference - that and let the battery get used to being used. It took a couple of weeks before mine started to really work well.
Like I said, read, read, read, and then when you've done that read some more

[Q] A bit of a lose with Samsung , appreciate some clarification

Presently I am using an AT&T HTC One X. I have never had my hands on a Samsung. I would like some clarification on rooting and using the custom roms.
I know this phone is new to the market and not much other than developers know much about it, but I still am curious. I am reasonably sure I will be switching to the GS 4 after the "hype" cools after the newness wears off.
Until the HTC One X, I used iPhones since the first iPhone 3 and never thouht about rooting or custom roms then came across the root thing and swapping roms, I had no problem with the root stuff or swapping after reading several posts and forums on the HTC One X so the ? is, is the Samsung's that hard or difficult to unlock the bootloader ?( see I don't even know for sure the Samsung has a bootloader).
I have read about the "Gold Card", using a Y cable , etc. is all that a necessary part of rooting ?
With the HTC One X there is a International and a U.S.A (AT&T) version, roms will not interchange, is this the case with the Galaxy S 4?
If there is two versions which is which? ATT code name or number in particular.
In the past with custom roms, what does the Samsung roms have over the HOX roms ? I know HTC sense and like it , I have heard about touch whiz, but what is it?
I know comparison's are illegal in the forums and this is on the verge of comparing but just asking for the difference on some points.

Guess this forum isn't as "noob" friendly as stated, unlike the HOX forums. With regards to the type of answer I got here, I might just reconsider the HTC One when due for an upgrade. At least in the forums I use I can at least get some kind of replies.
To be honest, this forum is pretty stupid .. Been here since 2009 and just got back to android and realised this forum became crap. Full of memes and nonhelpful posts.. meh

Gold Card is unique to HTC I think, it's not used in Sony phones. I've only ever needed the charger (Micro USB B cable) for unlocking both my Sony Arc and HTC desire HD

USA usually have their own "custom" built phones. For Code names

Touch whiz is the sense for Samsung, It's essentially Samsung adding their own stuff on top of regular android

You could probably look up reviews.

Thank you for the information, although with all the reading this morning on the GS4 and the HTC one I think I am more confused than before. I still don't know for sure what the difference is between the HTC and the Galaxy as for the root procedure. Then, enters the ODIN thing? Unlocking seems easier with the HTCDEV than whatever the procedure for the GS4, but the software review from Engadget makes the GS4 seem more appealing than the HTC out of box for me anyway. But , still with all the reading there is conflicts as to what I see whether the GS4 can be unlocked. From what I read, HTC is easier to unlock and S-OFF than the Samsung also. AS I understand it , TWRP cannot be used on the GS4 as with the same on HTC and CWM could not in the early stages. I am used to the TWRP for recovery but have used the CWM since it was altered for the HTC. Like some of the DEVS , plastic or aluminum it doesn't really matter as there will a case of some sorts on either one if nothing more than to protect from scratches.
All in all it sounds as if the Galaxy has the better software than the HTC One and IF the devs incorporate the features in the custom roms , it would make the GS4 a better device for me any way. I guess it comes down to the wait period for my upgrade to see what the DEVS come up with for customs and which one will win.
