Hey all! I purchased an unlocked Roger's HTC Magic for use with AT&T. It should be arriving in the next few days and I want to be prepared. I've browsed through the forums here and I haven't found any threads in particular to Roger's Magic Hero roms.
Can anyone point me to the latest and greatest Hero rom for the Roger's Magic?
I found some older threads talking about it having no Wifi support? That sounds crazy so I'll assume that has been fixed.
I also read online that Dounut 2.0 has been released with multitouch. That makes me wonder if I should wait for some Hero version with this latest junk included?
Anyways, I'll keep digging and appreatiate any links.
Looks like my problem was I was looking in the wrong forum fellas!

Herro..
I got the dream a 3 days ago, I like it alot..but after doing lots of searching my main question i cant find an exact answer for...
has the dream been rooted? If so is their a tutorial? I can only find outdated threads..
Secondly. which phone is better? I bought it as a spur of the moment thing, the guy at rogers saying both were the same..then I found out the dream is a older model, a t1..
I am still within 30 days, shouldi switch it for the magic? Does the magic have any major advantages over the dream?
Ty in advance
D
There are literally hundreds of threads in the Dream forum, the one above this one, with everything you'd ever want to know about the Dream aka G1.
The Magic is new to the market from April 09 in Germany followed by Spain, UK, Italy, France etc and now Canada. You should really check out both devices and decide for yourself. Personally I prefer the Magic and it looks better.
Best thing to do is go to Rogers and play with the Magic. I didn't even play with the Dream because I absolutely did not want a huge phone in my pocket. The magic is a nice size overall with the same screen as the Dream, only realy difference is the physical keyboard. It really is personal preference. I believe the Magic actually has more internal memory, 512MB vs. 192MB? Other than that no difference between the phones. As for rooting the Rogers Magic I know they have no figured that out yet, the Dream not sure about.
I'm considering Sprint's version of the Hero when it comes out. Will it be possible to flash that one with the custom ROMs found here?
i wouldnt flash with any current roms that are out because that hero is built to run on donut(1.6) not cupcake(1.5)
when the new hero donut roms are avaliable we will see

It's a different device, but some marketingpoeple thought, it sell's better as 'Hero' If they would have given it another name, we would find it in a new section on the xda-forum ...
dbl post. sorry.
@immya - from what i have read so far the Sprint Hero will ship with cupcake. I also had the same question about flashing but I will just have to see if it ships with donut on Fri. morning.
If it doesn't ship with donut we could, theoretically, flash with the other ROMS available correct?
Yes, Sprint's Hero will be shipping with 1.5. http://androidandme.com/2009/10/carriers/more-info-on-the-sprint-ota-problem/
Personally, I think the biggest question is whether or not these ROMs include CDMA support. If they don't, they definitely won't work on Sprint's (or Cellular South's) Hero.
yeah thats what im saying, cupcake doesnt naturally support cdma but one of donuts main features is that it can support both cdma and gsm. so i doubt any sprint support then for the time being
Picking mine up tomorrow morning. I'll search on how to get a dump of the OS so that I can post it up somewhere. If anyone cares to point me to the right link it would be appreciated and get a modified ROM out quicker.
Cheers!
The Sprint Hero is a cupcake build with CDMA support added to it. I would not flash it with a European ROM because you might brick the radio.
OK, got it in hand and have the whole weekend to play
I'm not going to try to flash it, though, just extract for others tinkering, that I may then partake of. Just want to give SOMETHING back to this awesome community.
more then likely there will have to be a "tweaked version" or new roms developed for the sprint hero. usually, on most htc devices, things that are found to work on the gsm version will not work on the cdma i.e roms, radio upgrades etc...
I too just got my Sprint Hero today from Best Buy and would be more than happy to help the devs here by offering my phones data if you guys could just tell me how to dump the necessary info.
I'm betting that the same HTC tools will work to extract the rom from this device whether it's GSM or CDMA. We (CDMA users) use the same tools as the GSM guys in the WinMo world for building ROMs (buildOs, etc.), it's just some of the ROM packages are specific for GSM and some are specific for CDMA.
I am trying to get my wifes TMOUS MyTouch 3G upgraded to a newer ROM with Sense. I feel comfortable with the whole process of rooting and flashing a new ROM but would really appreciate some advice. I know she wants Sense but I want her to have a very reliable and bug free ROM. I am unfamiliar with the android scene as I have an HD2 that I flash about twice weekly to keep up on the latest and greatest and I myself don't mid a few bugs but I want her to be bug free. I am just wondering what ROM's would be good for her and if there are preferably possibly a Desire/ Legend type RM that merger Android 2.1 with Sense 2.0. I am sorry if this is the wrong place to put this request and I have in fact searched and I have found a few but I don't want to risk putting a bad ROM on her phone and scarring her off. Thanks for the advice I know you guys & gals will give me.
25 Views and still no advice?
Why aren't you patient lol. You make yourself seem like a jackass and bring up haters like myself =) 25 doesn't mean that every member that just viewed it knows the answer. I thought that was pretty basic common sense.
I viewed this and I myself don't have an answer either nor will I search for you. I don't know many sense roms for mytouch3g, since most or almost all of them are basically for 32A which require the 6.35 radio. You would probably know that if you did some work. I only know good sense roms using the 6.35 radio, which you can't use. so I can't give any advice here.
I read somewhere about carriers dishing out the sense ui roms? I don't know if that's with tmo but I heard other carriers are getting it
But, isn't there an official ROM released from HTC WITH sense installed? I know I am using it. It was released at the end of January.
http://www.htc.com/europe/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=267&act=sd&cat=all
I know I installed this and it works great. + it's official so it will just not install if its not meant for your phone and it is rather bug free.
I hope this helps.
the htc magic is a 32A board mytouch is 32B
No seriously.
Am I crazy for want a port of the Rodgers 2.1 update?
I mean I do like the Cyanogen ROM's but I'd REALLY like to have a full working Sense ROM.
And seeing as this update was for the magic, wouldn't a port be fairly easy?
or does the SPL/Radio requirements pose an issue porting to other devices ???
BTW, is anyone working on a port of this or has "choice" died out due to everyone using CM?
You're not crazy, but I wouldn't bet on getting a port for the 1.2. In order to run it needs a completely different radio and spl plus other drivers. Even if someone "coerced" the kernel to run on the old spl and a radio made for another device, you'd still probably be lacking drivers for the touchscreen and the audio jack.
Even if the Rogers Magic and the MyTouch 1.2 are both 32A devices, the hardware differences are noticeable, making porting a very hard job.
That being said, I'm going to check out the price for a Desire from my provider. I've been waiting for this update since early spring and now that it's finally here, the bastards disabled multilanguage and won't release a proper WWE, unbranded version. The speed's nothing to brag about, either...

Damn >_<
Oh well, I just posted up my MT3G & Dask for trade for a MT3G slide or Nexus one
Haha neither will probably happen
Sorry to blow your bubble.
One more thing, could you please rename the topic to something like "official rogers 2.1 update on the fender", so that it's easier for other users to find the answer?
know its a little late but there isn't any need to do anything to the kernel at all
simply move the audio apk's from the 1.6 stock tmo rom for the 1.2 to the rogers package. i would imagine the same would be true with the video drivers
ill do some more research on this but thats basically all thats required
Hey guys...
My wife has a MT3G (T-Mobile US), and lately it has been running horrifically slow. I've been thinking about flashing a custom ROM to her handset, but I'm not sure if the benefits will be worth it.
I have an HTC HD2 that I've been flashing for a few months now (SD, NAND, etc), so I'm not new to flashing ROMS. I am, however, new to the MyTouch 3G. I've never really messed around with it. I just started reading some of the tutorials on here today...
Anyway, I'd like to get her phone to perform better.
Can anyone recommend a good ROM to flash for performance?
She doesn't need crazy apps or features. She has typical cell phone usage habits, like calling, texting, pictures, facebook, and a few games. That's about it.
Any help is appreciated!

Well... depending on what kind of MyTouch she has would depend on what would be best for her. Seeing that you are in the United States I will assume that you have either the standard 32B devices or the newer model with the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top (also known and referred to as Fender, 1.2, LE and "the-one-with-the-3.5mm-headphone-jack"). All honesty she might as well stick with stock for stability. Most custom roms are stable so don't get me wrong but some members complain that CM 6.1.0 rom (for example) makes their phone run slow. Others like the stock rom because they swear that it's faster. Being comletely honest here most of the MyTouch roms that you'll find here will be for the 32A type devices (foriegn hardware that would be incompatible with yours). This is because all of the 32B devices (USA devices) are also compatible with the G1/Dream. So instead of managing two different threads for two different devices for the same rom we just direct MyTouch 32B users to the G1/Dream section. I know it's really complicated but in a nutshell... if your MyTouch is ordered from T-Mobile USA then you should look toward the G1/Dream section for your roms because there are more posted there than there are here.
I'd have to say out of the custom ROM's I've tried, I like CyanogenMod 5.0.8 the best. That's the one I've kept on my wife's phone since I rooted it back in June. It's very stable and get's you the nicer feature's of Android 2.1. Honestly though, staying stock is probably the way to go. If you've got the older 32B then she should've already gotten the T-Mobile update to 2.2 and if not, then a call to Customer Service should get it. If you've got the 1.2 (3.5mm jack) they're going to start rolling out the update for it beginning tomorrow and running until the 1st of February. It may just be time to do a factory reset and if that doesn't improve performance, maybe use one of the one-click root methods, flash the custom recovery, then just flash an OC kernel.
Gio's 2.2.1 worked great and looked awesome on mine. Don has it right though, just wait a couple more days and get the stock 2.2.1 for your phone and clean it up and im sure it will play nicer.
Just a friendly word of advice. Just cause you are good at working another android phone doesn't mean another will be easy. I did lots of reading before and after rooting and flashing my phone. I still do.
Hell, now that there is mention of the OTA, now everyone wants to go back stock to get it. Instead of looking, cause its already out there, they keep wanting to know how.

Just a word of advice, if you regularly tether the phone to your computer for internet access and install the tmobile ota update, tethering will be disabled and you will have to pay $15/mo extra to keep tethering. A cs rep told me this a few months ago and that conversation was actually what finally made me root my mt3g, and I'm glad I did. I was using cm6.1 and speed was decent, but the latest nightly build had a huge increase in performance and I haven't had a single issue with stability. The new 32b 2.6.35.10 kernel has also been much faster and I have been getting WAY better reception by updating to the 2.22.28.25 radio. And universal androot method worked for me on the mytouch in the same way as any other device.
