OS 2.1 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

has anyone installed 2.1 on their MyTouch? I have a rooted Cyanogen 4.2.12.2 build with the Enoch theme and would like to upgrade to 2.1 instead of the core 1.6. Anyone susccessful?
Also, anyone have problems loading Google Maps 3.3.1? I can download it, but get the error when installing about "the installation was not signed" or something like that.

2.1 is a nice OS. Kinda slow compared to 1.6, but it's faster than a hero.
To download the new Maps, you gotta delete the apk and maps folder through ADB. Then the new maps will successfully install.

thanks dude...I actually think that I will stick with 1.6 if 2.1 is slower. I don't need to slow this thing down any more. It already feels like it runs slow with teh memory hack and the cpu overclocked.

Manup456's 2.1 is one of the best, but it has plenty of bugs right now, and videos do not work.
I'm going to try Cyanogen's 1.6 to see if I prefer it.

[Android] Expert Hrlp, Please

I would consider myself one who just knows enough to be dangerous when ut comes to installing android on my WM6.1 phone. I have tried multiple versions of android releases but all seem to run slower than desired and I always end up back with WM.
Anyone with experience: which version would you recommend for my phone. Below are the specs. And, by the way, I'm still using the haret.exe; once I finally find a well-working platform, I'll do a full install.
Phone specs:
HTC Touch (verizon: VX6900)
WM 6.1 Prof
CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
Processor: MSM7500-400MHz
Memory: 105.13 MB
4GB SD Card
I want a version that runs smoothly on my system and doesn't lag or freeze like a PC from 1992.
Thanks!!

If you want something smooth to use everyday, use one of Plemen's themed donut builds. Or you could even go back to one of the Ion builds. They all work fine.
SenseHero or Tattoo could also work, albeit a bit slower, but more flashy.
I'm currently running a themed build of 2.0.1 from the Kaiser forum.
+1 for Plemen's donut builds - they are all solid as a rock and speedy. They are faster than WM for me, but I am running NAND which is faster.
I got this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591104 installed on my Sprint Touch and I'm liking it so far. I might actually try flashing it sometime.
The one thing you didn't include in your stats is one of the most important stats for the speed of your haret experience, that is the speed of your SD card.
If you have a fast card (class 6) most of these builds will run well with a haret boot.
If you have a slower card, loading the build onto your NAND will increase your speed and stability substantially.
I would also recommend one of Plemen's donut builds for speed and stability.
Now, here's my second question: In my many attempts with different versions (from what I've read), something changed in my google account where I can't access/download unsigned versions of programs. Is there any way to overcome this without changing my google/gmail login??

Do you mean you can't download apps from the market? (Or at least that you have a limited selection?). If so I would suggest the Market Enabler.
And I agree with the previous posters, thus far Plemen's Donut builds have proven to be the most fast and stable. My preference would lie in his HeroBlend build, if only because I like the darker theme.
Plemen's HeroBlend build
Plemen's Eclair Themed build
Also, this Tattoo build looks really nice, and runs quite fast if you delete the Rosie.apk after starting it up. Too bad it's too big to fit in NAND though, at least for now.
I downloaded market enabler, but I still have missing apps...I've read bits and pieces throughout the net that copy protection on certain files is prohibiting me from downloading them.
Oh, and by the way...the recommended build is working VERY well

If you mean you want non-market apps, go to settings>applications> and allow unknown sources.

can you add speech-to-text to an existing ROM?

I'm running a very fast/stable eclair ROM on my 32B magic, but it does not have the microphone in the text input for speech-to-text. Is there anything I can install that will add that, or do I need to find a new ROM to flash that has it in there,
And if so, does anyone know of a good, fast 32B eclair ROM with working speech to text (as well as LWPs, tethering, and overall stable 2.1)?
Yes you can add it. Search for it on market.
Depending on country it may not be there, in which case you can download an apk.
I'm running Kingklicks aosp eclair, which you can find at the g1 forum. Voice search was broken and I had to install it with root explorer.
Apk here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6151841#post6151841
Kingklicks aosp has teathering, most stuff works, but I've had some issues playing and recording video.
thanks my man.
does this automatically add the mic icon to your keyboard as well?

!! RAM Roms Pleaes !!

Why are there no more new RAM builds anymore?
MDJ's RAM Rom is very beautiful, but it has stil the issue that the data isn't working for the dutch vodafone users.
How can we make this work?
I don't want a NAND build on my HD2 because I also runs Primo navigation on my HD2. (This because its a very beautiful navigation)
I want to have a RAM Rom, because it's starts very quick.
Current I'm running the Core_Droid_HD_V0.4_Release_Version, but in this version I saw that it makes temporary files on the SD-card, every time I start this build.
Also takes it's time to boot.
Search the forum, theres a fix for this
The fix is I think only for the RAM build of Darkstone, ant the Gingerbread ROM.

for temp files just uninstall 3d galery and than delete temp files thru file manager.
I also like that rom the very best after this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881937 Got 2.500 score in quadrant with this btw
I use both of them every booth i use other

[Q] What is this?

Hi People, i came with maybe a stupid question but i need to do it.
I currently running Racht's Floyo 0.10 and the rom is so stable and smooth but how everybody know there are some bugs in that rom some of them like 3.5mm Jack and video are useful to me so i decide to go back to a stock SE but there is a thing that is kind of boring in the SE stock Eclair and is the Contact, Dialer and other stuff related interface and with the Floyo 0.10 this part is so nice but i dont know how to call it if is an APK, and module ported to the rom or what.
So i like so much if you can tell me what it is and if i can install or use it in the Stock Eclair ROM
I leave some screenshots of what i'm talking about that i like so much in Floyo 0.10.
Thanks in advance
I believe that is just the stock Android dialer/contacts/etc. App. It may be possible to find them online and put them on your phone.
You should try this...X10 dialer for X8.
Thanks to you 2 for your answers I already found what is the name of the "app" is wycontacts froyo. But anyway i flash my phone with recent version of Racht's works.

[Q] OpenGL 1.1 on HTC Hero GSM?

I've been following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899801
Apparently someone has managed to get OpenGL 1.1 working on the CDMA hero.
I'm on VillainRom 13 (android 2.1), and my /system/build.prop looks somewhat different to what's in that thread.
Does anyone know where to insert the line "ro.opengles.version=65537"?
Do I need to flash to android 2.2 to get openGL 1.1? if so, will opera mobile let me view flash content?

Maybe try [ROM]Elelinux-Hero-2.1-update1 * WWE * , that already has opengles 1.1 included.
I'll have a look at the Elelinux version to see how he has gone about editing build.prop
I gave froydvillain 1.7 a try, but I didn't really like it. I simply missed a whole lot of features provided by the sense framework, like the contacts/facebook integration, how the keyboard handles forreign characters, and how flash content on the web just works, so I'll stick to the 2.1-based rom I'm running for another while, and post back if I figure out how to get opengl 1.1 working
I had a look at the Elelinix build, and they had it implemented wrong in build.prop, inserting the line:
ro.opengles.version=165537
instead of:
ro.opengles.version=65537
What this does is telling your applications that you have opengl ES 2.3, rather than 1.1
Which is actually awsome, since it enables vector maps in google maps (which are smaller and quicker to download, and will auto-rotate)
So far I haven't seen any negative effects of this change.
the line should be inserted after:
ro.sf.lcd_density = 160
and make sure to replace libGLES_qcom.so, as specified in the original thread
