Hello, I was wondering if there was a sort of visual java programming ide, or pluggin for eclipse perhaps. Something along the lines of how visual basic is set up, where you drag a text box, or drag a button rather than having to straight code it all. Is there anything like that out there that would work with android?
Something like droid draw? http://www.droiddraw.org/
Eclipse is just like visual studio, you just don't have event generators when you double click on stuff and the included XML designer is slightly buggy. good luck.
ADT pluging has drag and drop capabilities but I stay away from it. Too many screens to support and do it properly via drag and drop.
Straight up java wise I am pretty sure one of the frameworks, either Swing or AWT, had a drag and drop UI.

IDEA 12 has a nice UI designer.
[Your sig doesn't look like valid Java to me ]
Eclipse allows layouts to be developed by drag and drop, which helps in prototyping. Final touches best use hand coding, obviously.

I using:
1. WAD
2. WAD desktop
3. iphone today
In this way the top bar webos style is always present!
Updated preview
It looks fantastic. Great job. Are you going to make a VGA-Version?
I don't think it would be that complicated. The PalmPre's homescreen is basically a big TaskManager. We already have "similar" apps on Windows Mobile like that on the Xperia. Just make a homescreen plugin with a large task manager like interface with the same touch gestures as the Pre. The complicated part I would imagine would be the menu.
I like your skins, but it would be best as a simple homescreen plugin. Using WAD and the likes eats up memory and the way it overlays sucks.
I'm not a programmer but there are lots of open-source projects that, if combined, could provide roughly the same effect. I think someone with some know-how could come up with it pretty quick by reusing code that is already available out there.

Before starting this project I tried a lot but none of the programmers built an interface palm webos like for WM. There are iphone, android, and other but webos not so I decided to build it yourself.
I hope very much that any programmer to engage in this project and does a better job of mine!

Looking good. Here's my little take on it. Using a modded PointUi
Slightly off-topic tip: I suggest Omnia users should use PointUi 2.0.28e if they want their phone/clock to function poperly. Any other higher version causes the clock to stick and (possibly) corrupt the green button.
subscribed!
hopefully vga support soon
WOW super nice. very clean. hope the release will be soon definately going to donate for this
WOW nice man, ill use this when it comes out. is this another wad theme?

Is it possible to somehow port that panel feature? I really like how you can view open apps like pages and easily switch open apps. Android does a poor job of this. WebOS has a similar feature like the Adam. Hopefully someone can port that feature to be used on any Android device.

I think that would be cool. I would like to try it on me captivate's 4-inch screen

Press and long hold your home key.. It will display your last 8 open apps and let you switch between them.

@clockcycle. That is not the same. Its not a great process compare to what is coming out - RIM PlayBook, Notion Ink Adam panels & even Honeycomb will have a nice app/task switcher.

Fusion Garage says that the Grid OS was built using Android code, so I was wondering if it could be ported to our TF once it's released. We'd use some features, like the integration with the Grid phone, but that's fine, and since that is also based off of Android, maybe it can be ported to phones as well. I think it'll be a great addition to our trusty TF and just be another reason why our tablet is the best.
Watch it here It's a little laggy in the video, but that's probably a pre-production model..
Ehhh, I'll stick with Android for now.
At least it appears to be better than their last effort.

I thought it'd be a nice idea. Now that I think about it, this OS would look great for a media center.
it seems like all they did was implement a launcher and apps. dunno why they needed to create a completely new OS to do that.

Although I would nvr buy a joojoo 2 the grid os seems cool, would be nice if someone made a launcher replacement versus porting the whole thing as it is not based off of honeycomb
read through the entire engadget post. apparently grid is based off of android and can run android apps there is just no access to the android market you have to use the amazon one or sideload them.
"The OS also has Dalvik virtual machine built in, so all of your favorite Android apps will work on the Grid 10 and Grid 4, but there's no access to the Android Market and it doesn't come with Android's normal bunch of Google goodies -- you'll have to go to Amazon or elsewhere for applications. " http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/hands-on-with-fusion-garages-grid-10-tablet-and-grid-4-smartpho/
I just want the half screen multitasking window for the browser..

That's why I thought it would be a nice OS to port. I'm sure some dev could give it market support like they did on the GTab which doesn't natively have android market.
But sure, if someone could remake/port the launcher to us and the multiscreen browser it'd be nice. I really like the launcher on it. The "clusters" is meh, but the design and way you move around is a nice change.
looks nice and smooth to me. I like it.
And i respect them keeping their chin up and admitting their last disaster.
Fusion Garage
I read somewhere that not only is the Fusion Garge OS built on Android, it is using some sort of java interface as well.
I think the interface is clean and I like the specialty features . . . the volume control, and a few other options . . . I know it isn't much . . . just saying . . . you know?
Hi all I was on the verge of buying an otg cable to get Ubuntu on my nexus 7 via multirom and I was just wondering what is the best desktop environment to use on Ubuntu for nexus 7 as in kde , unity or gnome?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It depends on what you want out of the launcher. I don't have experience with the nexus 7 Ubuntu port so i cant tell you which is 100% best for it but i would assume this same rules as choosing a desktop enviroment for your PC apply. Unity+ GNOME are full of features out of the box, but are heavy in terms of resource use age and just size in general. Kde (slightly more heavy rhen the others) Lxde and xfce (my personal fav) are full featured, but way lighter. And then there is the mega cut down window managers (different) like jwm, icewm and tons of other ones i am not familiar with. I personally would go with xfce because of has features and compositing abilities, but is way lighter then gnome or unity. But the best way to figure out is to try a few! They all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks maybe I should have made what I was looking for clearer what I meant was one best optimised for use with a touchscreen. Thanks though I'll have a look through these.

Well, in my opinion (working with linux for quite some time), unity would be the best for touch-interfaces. You could always try the others, but I think it's the most intuitive. This is purely talking about tablets, not desktop use.
Edit: maybe some clarification is in order: The launcher bar of unity seems to me to be the best one suited for touch-interfaces and it's one of the things you use the most. Gnome comes in second, and KDE third in my opinion.
Just started using ubuntu on my tablet and my two cents is lxde. Far more responsive and uses less memory than unity. The biggest problem is no DM was designed for touchscreens. Specials features, cosmetics aside every touchscreen gadget I've ever used looks somewhat similar( large 1 push buttons) until a manager comes out designed for tablets the best we can do is customize what we got. Closest Ive come is LXDE with lxLauncher.
Lxde here as well. Unity has not been refined enough on mobile imho. Scrolling in some folders with touch is like pulling teeth. Lxde has been highly responsive for me. Of course, this is based on my likes and dislikes, needs and wants. You may find your needs are totally opposite from mine. Whatever you use, have fun and enjoy!

Hmm, interesting, I'll give LXDE a go too sometime. I just went with the options in the OP, but hadn't considered the other DE's, has anyone tried Xfce?
I've tried xfce maybe my repos were for a old version or installed wrong, but it didn't work that great. One thing I didn't mention with lxde is on board keyboard kinda sux. I know their is other keyboards and different settings for it I can use I just haven't taken the time yet to play with it.
Hi,
I was wondering if I could create a whole android game with animations and everything with and ide such as android studio? Also can games such as candy crush saga it angry birds be made with ide's such as android studio and eclipse?
Of course, you can. Every app that can be made, can be developed using these IDEs.

Yes, for 2D games I use andengine libs and eclipse IDE to develop(you can use android studio) and for 3D games I use jmonkey Engine with the JMonkey IDE(netbeans) but you can use too with the eclipse or android studio.

Well you won't be able to create the graphics and animations nor sound and music in such IDE. These IDEs have typically a image preview window, but that's it. However you will be able to do everything with free tools like InkScape, GIMP and Audacity.
Of course games like Angry Birds can be made using these tools. Some developers prefer paid tools that sometimes offer more value (comfort) for money.

Fair enough, you can actually create anything in IDE!
I remember creating assembler routine on my ZX Spectrum using POKE command.
