The final version of the Resco Explorer 2010 is released - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

We are glad we can announce that we have released the latest version of the popular Resco Explorer 2010.
What is new:
Image Upload to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Picasa, and Photobucket — the program is now able to upload image files to the most popular social networks including the largest web image database — Flickr.
Thumbnails View Mode — The new view mode displays previews of images. It becomes handy (improves the navigation) while seeking in folders with many image files.
Interaction with Resco Photo Manager — The new Explorer can utilize tools and strengths of Resco Photo Manager. If users have both of these programs installed on a device, they will sense that the thumbnail loading is faster as well as the fact that it supports all the photo manager image types.
Totally Customizable Today Plug-in — Today plug-in gets new shape and becomes totally customizable — add or remove phone tools, applications or documents. The eventual size of the plug-in, therefore, depends only on your choices.
Improved Task Manager - Task Manager has a new sleek skin and acts as a standalone application, so you can add it as a shortcut or map it to the hardware button.
The official Press Release can be found here.
All the other features and also proceed to the download can be reached via the Resco Explorer's Home website.

Very good. I'm giving a try...

Wow this looks very nice !

Very nice, love everything about it!
The only thing that still bugs me is the incredibly ugly icon that it shows for cab files!
Also the new task manager has instantly become my favorite task manager of all, and i have tried many!

very nice , I like this program

just to let you know that i'm the french translator of resco and the french version will come with the next update, so stay tuned !

good to hear that final version released...i will try

Its blocked for me at work..Could someone please upload the cab?
thanks

It seems that Resco File Explorer 2008 works much better on WM6.1 devices.
Tried 2010 but for me there is no reason to upgrade Resco for my TouchPro2.
To bad Bluetooth doesn't work but since this is a feature I hardly use I can always use the build in Explorer to do this

Would be awesome if we could map resco task manager to the top bar (where HTC Task manager is now)...

Men this version really sux on mine HTC HD2 original htc WWE 1.66 ROM (WM6.5). I tried this version instead of 2008, but it´s really hard to select an application. Scrolling is fine though, but selecting a folder, image, application or any file, is most of the time hard to do! :/
I hope this will be fixed soon
Going back to 2008 for the moment!
-edit
I have the same thing with resco reg edit, but the taskmanager works very well!

MOD EDIT: warez are not allowed here, be careful next time.

Please read the forum rules! This is no warez site!!!

Hello admins, please kick or something else this stupid guys that don't understand rules!

it's a piece of good news...
However, Resco Explorer 2010 still cannot be replaced as default Explorer meaning it has come to 2 Explorer icons, unlike ThumCal v1.3.5 which can replace as default Calendar....hehe..
thanks

Setting for Today Plugin!
Again New Resco Explorer is one of the greatest application in its kind!
However there's a problem with its Today Plugin!
In today Setting window, when "Resco Today Plugin is selected, the "option" button does not function!
It seem Resco has forgotten to disable the button, or make an appropriate setting option.

QUEER~DUDE, I agree with you, and I can give u mora examples, like Media Player (GSPlayer + TCPMP... perfect!), Task Manager (Cele-Task is really helpfull), Office Mobile (Softmaker is the man!!!).
I've used Resco Explorer since I have WM, and it's getting better everytime!

UPDATE: Treo 700w ROM and REGISTRY dumped!

I was at the local mall today and played with the Verizon Treo 700w. With the integrated data connection, I quickly downloaded Resco Explorer and tried to grab the SpeedDialPlugin.dll from the Windows folder, since that's a neat Today plug-in to assign quick-dial picture contacts as well as have a custom interface for the voicemail box.
Of course, the DLL is in ROM, and Resco Explorer couldn't grab it. Is there any other quick method of getting the file off the device without looking like I'm performing surgery on the device in the store?
I can extract the registry entries with Resco Explorer's Registry Add-In, but how can I get a hold of that and a few other DLL files while on the device itself (not plugging a laptop into it or something)?
Hi BeyondtheTech!
This isn't exactly what you are looking for, since it won't dump individual files, and you need at least a 64 MB SD, but maybe it will be of some use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22861
It works automatically in the background, that's a plus!
BeyondtheTech: grab_it is likely to be exactly what you're after, as Buzz says, it's very 007.
I've tried posting some requests in the Treo Central forums for a copy of the rom, but no one will bother getting it off for me
V
I'm going to try tomorrow at the store with my 1GB card full of distractions.
Qapla'!
I installed Resco Explorer on the demo Treo 700w at the store and it was still there today. I exported the registry out to my SD card.
Looks good. Will have a look into it tonight, with Mrs Vijay555's blessing
V
Wow , great thanks
Yahoooo !!!!
This dump is really good
extracted succefully ..
I wanted to see if I could use the Today plug-ins for the Speed Dial (which has custom buttons for voice mail when called).
I extracted SpeedDialPlugin.dll, SpeedDialDB.dll, DialLookupPlugin.dll, ActiveCallPlugIn.dll, CustomDialingExt.dll, and PhoneCanvasPlugIn.dll, got the Today registry tree, and put it in a CAB file and ran it on my 6700, but none of the Today plug-ins show up.
Am I doing something wrong? Is it missing a certain file?
Just wait ... i've extracted all files and modules and test some of them
Great stuff. Have you tried the phone dialler?
Quite nice and works with the keyboard on the Universal.
V
Can you post what you pulled and put together? I'd like to see what can come out of this whole project.
I haven't had any luck with the today plugins yet, just pulled them out and tried copying the reg like you did, but didn't load. Quickly tried reversing it but it doesn't look like it's crippled to the device, but it probably is. Will check in more detail later.
I just tried all the executables, and some are interesting, but frankly much of it is stock. It's only the battery icon (see here) that was of particular interest.
I tried the phone dialler, but my Universal doesn't have a sim, so it crashed when I tried to call, so can't comment if it works 100%. It looks nice and works well with the keyboard, but is QVGA crippled (well, 240x240!), ie not VGA, although it's all bitmaps so may be hackable like VJBigPhone.
The camera app hung
Haven't done much else yet, Buzz was keeping me busy on other stuff
Will try more later. Thanks so much for posting the ROM btw! I imagine you didn't see the bar on grabit because it may be hardcoded to the bottom of a QVGA screen. We may need to mod the source code.
V
ehm how can i open (and extract the files in) the rom dump (bin file)?
The websearch plugin works. Pretty lame though, only two distinguishing features, but about as basic as it could be. Better free options available on line.
V
Chaps, supposedly the Treo 700W has an answering device application on board including some hooks into the GSM hardware.
Any chance of diving into that?

But please let ne know how do you extracted the rom files from the dump.bin?
Cool...great job. Can you get the today dialer work too please? I'm really interested in that one.

Taskbar, like in windows: possible?

Is is possible to have a taskbar, showing which programs are currently running, like in windows xp for example? Having to go to the 'memory' panel and manually closing application from there is getting old...
TIA!
Please try MagicButton. A good task manager in WM5.0
I recommend the use of SmallMenu Plus (they should start a referral program!).

Task manager and neat launcher in one.
Otherwise, apps like Wisbar and the free variants can show running apps in the taskbar at the top. Depending on how many apps you run, that can be useful.
V
I think he meant WinXP Taskbar showing *running application*.
Anyway, you can do that using .. er.. what's the name.. Wisbar? It is a skining program for your top Start bar, so you can remove all other icons, and put in the option of displaying icons for all running programs.

Well, we have something for that as well and it is free, Magic Button: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
But as Vijay showed, Small Menu also has an option of showing and closing apps as well. So it is a matter of preference on the user.
Me, I use both. I use Small Menu to launch apps, and use Magic Button to see what I have running in the background on the taskbar.
Magic button is cooooooooooooooooooooool
I agree - Magic Button is the first thing I install...
Cheers,
Steve.
You can also try a True Toolbar http://www.valksoft.com/TrueToolbar.html
It renders the running apps on the lower bar (toolbar) on the today screen. Actually this is and its disatvantage (to some extend) as if you switch to some app, the today screen is gone and the info for runnign aps as well...
Also for task swithcing you can consider the PQz - this is especially useful if you are using keyboard and also has many usefull features like allowing you to use CTRL, ALT, defining system wide shortcuts, speed dial shortcuts, etc ... here is the link: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/DOC/index_e.htm There is info about this tool on other topics in the forum ...

Yes you can have alt-tab changing! And more...
ABSOLUTELY: there's an AWESOME free app called PQzII - search for it here and you'll find a whole trhead. It does the alt-tab taskbar thing u want, exactly as you'd expect, and SO much more. I paypalled the author despite it being free cos it's so awesome!

Are you using the pxed file or the unpxed file on your Universal? I extracted both files OFF the folder, how come they have different file sizes? What is the difference between the two?

Hi,
I'm a proud Scoter owner (Mitac Mio A701), so no Universal here. Now as far as UPX, UPX is a compression routine. It is popular at Buzzdev.net. The concept behind it is great, it allows compressed code to be executed directly w/o the need for an external decompression routine, it is incorporated into each file. This has 2 good effects. the first, is that the files are smaller, the second is that since the DOC is slooow, the CPU can load and decompress a UPX'd file faster than loading up an uncompressed file. Buzz and others know quite a bit more than myself on the subject.

Jason

Firt to reply :?: :?: :?:
i'm trying that, seems great application, THX :wink:
Is there a web page for it? I may wanted to try it out. PocketBreeze is a bit slow on my already slowed Charmer. However, I tried a lot of other plugins and PBzz is currently the best on for the price of $10.
One of the thing I like about PBzz is the integration of the Tasks and Appointments on the same screen, and birthdays too. Further, I found the others annoying is the fact that they named tomorrow just like any other date, which may undermined the importance of that particular task tomorrow. Hence, everytime I was looking at my Today screen, I have to particularly check todays date to ensure that if the next task/app on the screen is tomorrow or not.
Do a check
can any body from the ones installed this app tells me if it enables me to set the saturday as the first day of the week or no.
Handy little app meschle! Thanks for posting it.
And, gwassef, no.

Thats something your end - firewall or antiviral causing that. It downloads fine for me - try downloading on your wizard through internet explorer.
Ok. I've tested it. My comments as mentioned above,
It doesn't show tomorrow as 'Tomorrow' and, it doesn't even show today as 'Today'. Maybe someone would talk to the author and ask him to make those changes, which is, in my opinion a very good improvement.
But other than that, it is a very good today plugin.

This ROM can be dumped and recooked. Unlike many of the cooks, no RGU have been deleted. No DSM has been deleted. And most of all, the ROM has not been crippled against dumping by deleting IMGFS signatures. So feel free to dump and modify upto your taste. And share the knowledge with the community. We can improve more by sharing the knowledge than keeping it secret.

THank you again Gullum for your hard work.
I 've downloaded your new rom and will flash it tonight.
... seems like I 've become one of your rom's loyal followers.
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the ROM, but I´d really like to see a new Lite ROM with Opal stuff but without M2D (to use it for ThrottleLauncher).
Are you going to release one ? Or maybe also a ROM with ThrottleLauncher?
Installed this ROM on the Touch Cruise of my father in law.
Very good and stable ROM so far and he is very pleased with it. Thank you!
I used the last version (II), very happy with it, excellent ROM, the only problem I had was the word "Calendar" (underneath "Call History") would dissapear off the front screen, no matter what I tried I could never get it back, also the "ThumbCal" would then dissapear from the left soft key, being replaced by "Phone", again, no amount of setting with M2D could get them back. Oh, and it wouldn't happen at first, like would be after a day or two, maybe even a few days, strange.... maybe I should have tested to see whether it happens only after I ran M2D, even though I never altered that settings, hmmmm.
Anyway, anyone else experience this? or more importantly, anyone experienced it on this version 3?
Thanks
Acctualy i had radio problems with version 2,, i don't know if anyone else had the same problem?
More languages
Is'nt possible install other languages. Always the 5 inicial ones. Any idea how to install portuguese keyboard (and t9 language)?

Good Job!!!!
Most bugs corrected, for me still didn't started Opera Mobile, in M2D interface just after I choosed as the default browser and linked it to OperaL.exe from /windows directory.

Hi!
I'm a longtime lurker, ever since I got my Touch HD when it first came out and I NEEDED to have an english rom instead of a dutch one. Thanks to this place, my phone runs exactly how I want it to (most of the time ).
Except for a decent app launcher. I HATE the win6/6.1 scrollist ones, allthough the startmenu after that sucked a little less. I liked the yotacenter launcher, but in the end I just ran out of space and had to hit the "all apps" button too often and scroll through a huge list.
So I wrote my own in c# under .net 3.5.
And, seeing as I got all my tweaks and fixes from you guys, I thought I should give something back; in essence a quick and dirty app launcher which does exactly what I want: organise the programs I use the most.
It's a catagory per page, has menu, contextmenu and top-scroll-bar driven UI and you can add your own background:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I wrote it to be as device independant as I knew how, but I've really only tested it on my Touch HD1, so I'm really curious as to how it runs "in the wild" (or even on any other HD ). To save some effort, I've just packaged the .exe, which should run from any location. If it doesn't, \Program Files\AppGrouper\ should do it.
It should come with a default background and an icon...for this initial release [call it a beta] I didn't create a cab, so you'll have to copy/edit an existing .lnk file to get the program to show up in the windows\startmenu\ .lnk files so you can use a launcher to launch my launcher (yeah, I get the irony ), or just start the app from the exe.
Anyway, as I said this is the first application I'm releasing to the public, so please give me some feedback I have no idea what "unknown unknowns" this app'll run into on different machines than my emulator and my own Touch HD. The only deletion the program can do is to a specifically named .xml file it generates itself, so it should be safe enough
PS: as I was entering the tags to this post, I realised that this type of software could have been made and released many times: I've only used MS's launcher and the yotacenter one, so any ideas and/or other similarities to other launchers is coincidence and a case of simultanious devellopment (or in my case, retarded devellopment ). Again, any feedback is appreciated, from bugs to implementation to "you've totally ripped off x!". 'Cause I didn't, but I'd like to know about x
Anyway, I hope someone can use this!
Nice apps. The Title Folder box ought be longer to fit the text
Hehe
Ok, so I guess I'll have to set up an auto resize routine for the textsize and the textbox ... check back in a day or two
BTW, what device did you use this on? I'm curious to know if the program works correctly on devices other than touch hd's, too.

Thanks for sharing!
I think mortbutton can do better than this
Ok app. thanks for sharing
By default can you pick up start menu and folder under it as group?
Else I think mortbutton can do far better job than your program. + .netcf 3.5 requirment
Thanks for sharing it. Few things I noticed
while trying to add an to a folder a drop down menu reveal 3 options - the first one is to add an app, what is the second one? it is blank on my tp2?
after running an app it stays in memory. is this how you designed it? i would prefer if it closed after running an app
finally, can you list here launchers that you came across that are standalone apps, meaning they do not sit in memory or eat CPU. i am looking for something like that with folders/tabs like yours and self-close after use.
thanks for sharing. i have one single question. i have installed it on my herald, but i cannot add more then one app to a group. am i missing something?
Sweet launcher! Thank U
I like your application!
As being an anti manila user Until now I was addicted to Program Finder plugin (attached) running on the Today Screen. Unfortunately the Today Screen does not have the SIP toggle in the bottom bar plus sometimes the Today Screen needs a refresh, due to Program Finder being an very old program; its messing up the Today Screen.
Therefore I searched the whole internet and finally after searching for 1 year I found [attachment]ToggleInputPanel.exe[attachment]. I'm executing programs via icons by running Easy Today Launcher.
Your application is a welcome alternative, thanx again! o/~
