Yes.

You can use Windows 7 to update to any ROM, whether shipped or cooked. I can't even sync with Windows Mobile Device Centre due to drivers not loading and I can still get the phone into bootloader mode and change ROMs of my choice. I also successfully installed Hard SPL using my Windows 7 computer (64 bit version).
Somehow, when the HD2 goes into bootloader mode, Windows 7 recognises it properly and loads the correct drivers. From there, it's an easy step to use the RUU (ROM Update Utility) to upload ROMs and Radios.
I can't promise you'll be able to sync your HD2 though so if you can, congratulations - I've spent 4 weeks trying to fix the drivers not loading issue with no success.
i am able to sync my HD2 to windows 7 64bit.
i just didnt knwo if it was possible to ROM update with windows 7
thanx for the info

Hi!
I want to upgrade my HTC P3300's ROM. I'm using Windows Vista Business.
There's any rom upgrade utility working with Vista ?
Thanks
And thats a good question.
For HTC Wizard there is, dunno if that one is different with a flash util for Artemis...
Anyone?
The trouble is caused by the drivers for Vista, Vista uses the Mobile Device Centre drivers that do not work in boot-loader mode.
So to get round it you have to install the drivers that do work in bootloader mode, it is for the Hermes but still works:

Hey guys,
I'm trying to flash my first ROM to the stock WWE Europe ROM, due to my Asian ROM not having the compact keyboard option and me having big fingers.
Every time I try to flash the rom, though, the connection gets lost at the TriColor boot screen.
The first time it booted into the TriColor screen, Windows (7 x86) attempted to install driver software, but said it failed. Now, it doesn't try installing driver software, it just tells me a USB connection could not be established.
Before the phone boots into the tricolor screen, the ActiveSync connection works.
Can anybody help a brotha out?
Cheers
Jennan
If i got you right you have Asian ROM and you want to put WWE ROM, is that correct? If so did you do HSPL first?
Sure did. Booted into TriColor to confirm hard, should be working fine.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
Any ideas anyone?
Most common problem that people face when using a 64-bit Windows is loading unsigned drivers. It seems that Microsoft has forgotten end users when it introduced a very restricted module of driver signature enforcement in Windows Vista and Windows 7. All drivers and system files must be digitally verified or they cannot run when using both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.
press F8 when Windows is booted up until you get the Advanced Boot Options, then select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"

Well, it's been almost a year since I've had the upgrade bug. I have been running the 8107 (unlocked, I think it was a YUKI/XBOXMOD ROM) version of Windows Phone 7.5 for a while now. I finally saw there's a new version, and I want to flash it.
Perhaps it is because it has been so long since I've done this, but I cannot get the USB connection I need when running DWI.exe.
I've tried all the fixes on my Windows 7 x64 bit computer and I'm stumped.
Tried running customRUU.exe while running DWI.exe...didn't work
Tried making sure DWI.exe was being run as Administrator...didn't work
Can anyone help? I'm just trying to get from one WP7 ROM to another...I already have HSPL 2.08 and Mag 1.13.
Is this a problem with the phone or the USB drivers on my PC?
Sorry for this, I used to remember all this stuff but my HD2 has been rock solid (except for touch tones not registering on calls...which means I can't call any customer service centers that require you to enter selections via touch tones) for so long I can't figure this out...
Do I need to do a hard reset? Go back to WM 6.5 and start all over?
Is it the USB drivers? Where are the ones you need for this?
Any help is appreciated. LONG LIVE THE HD2!!
UDPATE: Nevermind, re-installing the WMDC for WM 6.5 did the trick.
Hey XDAers,
I'm trying to flash a new ROM to my OMNIA 7. I have followed the instructions and was successfully able to install MAGLDR on my Omnia7. But when I run the DFT DMLI tool to start loading the new ROM, I get the following error. (Please see attachment)
The status on my phone reads the following:
ATO MAGLDR 2.00
Build : Feb 6 2012 23:44:08
DFT, Cotulla 2012
----------------------------------------
CMD mode
Reset device to go back
Wait USB...USB !
CMD connected
I first tried this on my PC running on Windows 8 release preview and I had the same error. I tried using 5 different USB ports, restarted it a couple of times, reinstalled the sammy drivers. But I had the exact same problem.
So I switched to my laptop running on Windows Vista and did everything from scratch, but DFT DMLI tool can't seem to be connecting to phone, no matter what I have tried so far
I'm quite frustrated, as I have been spending hours and can't seem to figure out the issue. Any help to sort this out will be very much appreciated.... :good:
Ok...
It was rather stupid of me, but the ROM file needs to be in the same directory as the DFT DMLI tool... and Windows 7.8 on with Nokia Drive Rocks !!!
USBWorkDMLI_SAM.cpp (173)

Cliffs Notes Version:
On a clean Windows 7 computer what do I need to install to get my HD2 to be recognized properly so I can flash some new roms? Drivers? ADB? HTC Sync? All of the Above?
Details:
I have had my HD2 running Android builds for a long time now but haven't flashed a new rom in over a year. I just broke my GS3 and need to dust off the old HD2 to tide me over until I get a new phone. I am having issues getting my computer to recognize the HD2 properly however so I can flash new roms. Both of my computers have had drivers installed to get the GS3 and the Nexus 7 connected to them since and I think the drivers are getting all messed up. I am going to go use a computer that has had no drivers of any kind on it to get it to connect but I am still unsure of what I need to install to get it connected. Drivers? ADB? HTC Sync? All of the above? The HD2 Toolkit has a button for downloading drivers but the link is broken and everything I download since seems to not work.
Thanks for any help or direction!

I actually just flashed mine on a clean Win 7 installation the other day.
I only needed to download the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 and that was it.
I think I used this link:
