It's not an error as such but still a problem.
When entering a person's contact details e.g. Joe Bloggs, he has a work number, mobile, home, work 2 etc.
If I go to compose sms, then click the "to" box.
I then start to type "Joe"
I'm then presented with all of Joe's phone numbers,
Joe Bloggs
0103981 3822
Joe Bloggs
000111 1111
Joe Bloggs
04492 18930 etc.
There's no way for me to know which one is the mobile or the work or whatever.
I know for the Iphone it displays like:
Joe Bloggs
0103981 3822 - work
Joe Bloggs
000111 1111 - mobile
Joe Bloggs
04492 18930 - home
Anyone know of a way to get around this problem. I have multiple contacts who each have multiple numbers.
no one has this issue???
you should have a corresponding symbol before each number...
in contacts it shows a different icon, yes. Not in the text message application though

it's a standard symbol for all phone numbers though. I know what he means, you can't tell the difference between a personal mobile no. and a work mobile no. for a contact who has multiple numbers stored sgainst them.

Is there a way to add to add 2 mobile numbers for the same contact? I don't why, but people do have more than one mobile, and I just cannot figure out why there is only one Mobile number category in the Contacts option. If anyone knows how to do this, it would be really nice to know. Thanks in advance.

Put the other number at Car field and you will be able to call and send SMS to that number using our device.
Thanks but even after entering it in the Car field I don't get the number when I type a new SMS. (I can send the SMS selecting it manually) It just suggests the number in the Mobile field... so back to square one.
you can create a new text message click contact -> navigate to the caller -> high light the car using your dpad. click menu then click sent text message to

Inesoft Address Book 1.8 or 2.0 has that feature. Just replace one of the fields (say fax, car, etc.) to mobile and you'll have two mobile numbers for a single contact..
I'm running 6.1 MR1 and sync my contacts with an Exchange Server.
I have a number of contacts that have the same office phone number, and I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to specify which contact info is displayed by Called ID when there is more than one person/entity with that phone number in my contacts.
For example, say I have individual contacts for the ABC Company, John Doe and Jane Smith. All three have the same work telephone number. When I get a call from that phone number, it could be John Doe, Jane Smith or anyone else at the ABC Company calling. Let's say that in this situation, my caller ID display always shows the incoming caller as John Doe. Is there any way to tell Windows to display the caller as the ABC Company information when it receives a call from this number instead.
I've embarrassed myself too many times thinking one person was calling when in fact it was someone else!!!
Thanks!
I've love to be able to do this too.
My problem is that I have a shared address book with all workers at my business with home as well as work numbers. My name and number are obviously in there. In a different book I have my wife's name and our home number. Whenever she calls, my name, as it's alphabetically before here, shows up first. I've tried putting a period or space before her first name hoping that it would move her up on the list, but it moves her down to the last spot of people with the same last name, and I can't change my name in the shared book.
If you're working off personal address books, I'd see if you can fudge the names so that the one you want to appear shows up alphabetically first. Then I think that's the one that gets grabbed with Caller ID
the other option. if you can edit your contacts. Would be to remove the work phone number from the individual contacts. That way it only shows for 'ABC' Company.
Thanks, Nec . . . I've removed the work numbers for the individuals as a half-baked work around. The problem is that some of them are favorite contacts (Spb Shell), so if I want to call them at work, I have to go through the directory instead of just using the picture shortcut.
I would like to know that the WM6.5 contact supports many mobile phone number in one contact?
For example, can I add 10 mobile phone number in 1 contact. Many Thanks.
Yes. Fax, Home, Work, and multiples of each. This is nothing new to WM.
However, I have never tried to enter 10 mobile numbers to one contact. None of my people are important enough to have 10 mobile phone numbers... I wonder what kinda of person has 10 mobile numbers... Hmmmm....

that is just an example. I cannot enter more than one mobile in one person on WM6.1
And I cannot enter more than two mobile in iPhone.
Could you test it if you have WM6.5? thanks
There's only 1 with the description "Mobile", but there are also "Other", "Home", "Home 2", "Car" etc.... Basically all the ones available in Outlook... I have some contacts with 5 or 6 numbers defined for them....

Can WM6.5 contact do like this:
First Name: Toby
Last Name: XXXX
Mobile: +1 123 123 1233
Mobile: +1 123 123 1234
Mobile: +1 123 123 1235
Home: +1 123 123 1236
Business: +1 123 123 1237
Fax: +1 123 123 1238
This is very import if some persons with multiple mobile when using sync function. If the WM6.5 does not support such contact may cause information lost during sync.
Please help me to do a very simple test. Many thanks everybody.

The answer to your question is no. Windows Mobile 6.5 is no different in that matter. You can only add one number listed under "mobile". You have to use other categories if there is more than one mobile number (fax, car, home, work, etc).
As yes...this could mess up or cause sync issues when using different formats.

Hello,
If i add home, mobile, and work numbers for one contact, and that contact calls me from one of those numbers, how do i know from which number he/she's calling from? E.g. how do i know its their home, mobile, or work number?
I didn't see any different colours or icons... unless i just missed it.
Thanks

funny, the number shows on the screen, didn't your have that?
yeah the number shows - but unless you know by heart which number belongs to home, mobile, or work for that contact, then how will you know?
Add them as 3 different contacts, eg:
Dave Home
Dave Work
Dave Mobile
Then, link the contact together. Now, they act as a single contact, but when you receive a call, the respective name appears.
Boom.
hi starskyh,
thanks for the tip, but it didn't work =(. It displays the name of the contact that linked it together.
e.g. if you linked dave mobile and dave work to the dave home contact, then it will always show dave home, and underneath it will show w/e number is calling.
Does it work for you?
How can you not differentiate landlines and mobiles?
Unless its' work/home landlines and work/home mobiles you need to differentiate?
Make different contacts if there is a REAL importance that you be able to tell.
Some people have two phones, one for work one privat. Is it really that hard to imagine :-O
I feel our pain same problem here, but than again its not that important to me, but even my Nokia 6210 did that for me.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
lol well in toronto, the numbers for landlines/mobiles aren't different at all... they both could have the same area code/same number format.
yeah i'll probably have to go the multiple contact route.... boo! lol
I'd have more of a quail with people calling me on Private numbers, I just think this is hardly a problem, as I said you can make two contacts.
Hi guys.
Whenever someone calls to me the number only appears instead of their contact name in the address book. Why is that? The only difference I know of is that all my numbers are stored with the international prefix for my country. But whenever someone calls to me, the number showing is without the prefix.
This worked on all previous HTC and Windows Mobile phones - is this something new on WP7?? Or are there any settings I can edit somewhere?
I feel totally lost!
I also have all my contacts numbers stored with the international prefix, but I don't seem to have the problem you describe.
My contacts sync through Exchange.
Maybe try storing a number without the international prefix, and see if it shows the number or the contact.
In Settings\Applications\Phone there is a setting "International assist" which automatically corrects mistakes while dialing internationally or while abroad. Maybe try turning it on or off.
This is really weird. I too sync my contacts through Exchange, but I don't think that matters.
The weird part is when people call me the incoming call is without international prefix, so when the contact in my address book is stored with the international prefix, it doesn't show who's calling!! If I remove the prefix, it works as it should.
As for the text (SMS) messages they go through the SMS center, which apparently uses the international prefix, so all SMS' I receive are with the prefix so all my contacts which I have stored the prefix on, it displays their names, all without displays with only the number!
Really frustrating!!!!
Any ideas?

Since this is a general WP7 thing, I just assumed you guys would look in the general WP7 forum
u can save the number with the number code as a home number..!or if u have already the number with the number code in ur "people", save the number without the number code as a home number..!
