cant download from market after going back to a 2.1 rom from 2.2 beta

i need some help. i cant download from the market after i went back to a 2.1 rom from a 2.2 beta rom. any ideas?

Is it stuck on downloading?
Usually when it is, I just leave it there-- then after a few minutes, it will tell you it's installing.
You can also try going to Settings > Applications > Market and clearing data and cache. Then open up market again and let it refresh.

i tried that already and it still hasnt changed. even did a factory reset twice

I SO don't know what I'm talking about. Ever. But especially here.
However having said that, perhaps you flashed the baseband to 2.2 with the modem file and Odin, and need to flash it back to a 2.1.
Anyone confirm/feel free to correct me and call me names....
Also I've had issues with the market upon restoring backups after trying out different ROMs. Sometimes I stop all the backed-up market downloads, then clear the cache, the reboot and try downloading apps again one or two at a time and that works. Recently I had an issue where the market thought I didn't have a program installed, but I did have it from a Titanium backup. Market kept trying to restore it. Then I uninstalled it from my Epic and reinstalled it from the market.

I had the same issue when I reverted back to 2.1. Are you doing a restore from a nandroid backup? I tried doing a straight nandroid restore, failed. I tried wiping and flashing a 2.1 rom and then doing a data restore, failed. Finally, I just gave up and forwent the data restore. I had to rebuild everything, but it worked.
I'm sure you can find a more elegant solution, but it's what worked for me.

Ibwas having the same problem. It was caused by restoring from a nandroid backup. I just reflashed and restored all my apps manually

i fixed it by going back to the 2.2 beta rom i was using. i reverted back to 2.1 because gps wasnt working but now gps is working on 2.2 and i have market access. i would say close this thread but i sure somebody else will have this problem and need the help so leave it open

OK, congratulate me!! Thanks. I did it on the first try, no issue or hiccups what-so-ever.
Now for the info. I'm not sure that anyone will be interested, but I'm guessing other people in my position at least might be.
I'm very experienced with computers, but not working directly with rooting/unlocking devices. But I would say anyone who reads up a bit and can follow directions properly could pull it off pretty easily.
So I run 2.2.2, and I used superoneclick 1.6.3.
After opening superoneclick, I switched it from psneuter to rageagainsthecage. I had no idea if I was supposed to do this, but I read all about rageagainstthecage, and never heard of psneuter.
I had my phone connected to my PC, and I left my SD in the phone, but I unmounted it in settings. I have used ADB before, so I knew the drivers were installed and working, and I hit the button root.
After reading this site, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682, I started with debugging off, and turned it on as it said. I then turned it off, but didn't get a chance to turn it back on and off and on, so I just turned it back on (debugging) when it got to "Waiting for device" for the second time.
That was it! It asked to test and see if root was in fact accomplished, and it was. I then installed setCPU (which is basically the only reason I wanted to do this) and as far as I can tell it seems to be working fine.
I have been reading a lot about this for the past few days, but the actual procedure only took a couple of minutes. Keeping in mind, of course, that I already had ADB and drivers working.
Nothing was wiped off my phone, which surprisingly was hard to confirm on the web. I did read somewhere that only unlocking wipes data, but still, you never know.
I hope this helps anyone else who is new and unsure of the process, and I'd be happy to answer any other specific questions based on what I have learned of the last week or so. I know that people hesitate to ask questions in case they have already been asked lots of times, but are buried and hard to find (because that's the position I was in ).

Thanks for posting your "rooting" experience. I'm sure there are people that will find it helpful.

I think when I did mine, it was something along the lines of:
fastboot-oem-unlock
fastboot flash recovery <whatever>
reboot into recovery and flash rom

Other than the ability to install custom ROM's I've yet to see a huge deal in rooting my phone. Anyone care to tell me what I can do with a rooted N1 that is a must have? So far I tried to change some fonts, which didn't work, and discovered that I have to install a custom ROM to change the color of the notification bar, and I can't make the default Google music and news widgets slightly transparent. So educate me, what's the huge deal with rooting, aside from a custom ROM?

Set cpu of course like being said. I remember the first time I rooted my phone was universal androot it was a breeze. Then I lost root and use super one click to gain out back. Root really easy as well

After that I flashed CM 6.1.1 and yesterday I tried CM7. Everything has worked fine for me so far, but I have some questions, I hope someone can answer.
1/Can I just flash random roms on top of each other, like i did from cm6 - cm7?
2/ Can I always restore backups, nomatter what rom I come from or to?
3/ when/if official GB come out, can I flash a stock rom and get the OTA update right away?

Built in trackball colors, call blocker, hide frequently called list in the favorites tab, remove unnecessary apps, tmobile wifi calling, notification bar power toggles, trackball wake and unlock, quiet hours, themes, etc., etc., etc. Just off the top of my head. Oh, and Gingerbread!!!

Some apps want to bypass the home screen "5 second rule" like widget locker, you need root. I setup a widget to reboot (nice!).

Unlocking the Bootloader wipes data, rooting does not. This is probably what you read.

2/ Can I always restore backups, nomatter what rom I come from or to? A Nandroid backup can be reinstalled from any ROM, or even just from Recovery if there is no ROM.

1. As a rule, if you are going from 1 ROM to another totally different ROM, it's always a good idea to wipe. It only takes a few seconds to sign back in to everything. You can bypass immediate sign in and activate wifi if you need it.
2. Nandroids can be reinstalled anytime. However, a nandroid does not contain your HBOOT and Radio. So if you updated those to use a specific ROM, they would stay in place with the nandroid restore.
3. When GB does finally make it out to our specific device, there is no way you would get an OTA before the ROM devs here had you up and running.
***Also note, the 1-click root tools may or may not work right away with the OTA 2.3. So to anyone that rooted using those tools and unrooted to hurry up and get an OTA, you may be stuck on stock until it gets fixed.

I agree, do a full wipe if it's a new ROM. Titanium Backup is a great way to get all of your apps and data back after installing the new ROM.

So what do you lose (if anything) when flashing a new ROM if you backup and do things the right way?
Another question would be if you just flash a new kernal do you lose any/all data?

I've rooted before, and lost root when ota's came. I've rooted again using superoneclick, and am contemplating cm7. But I feel very cautious about flashing a different rom, I'd cry if I bricked my phone. However, I'm probably going to do it during the next week (unless gingerbread ota arrives).

Hmmm, I have been anxious for GB too.... but I'm not sure it's worth it. I don't think it's such a big update. I don't think there's too much of a danger of brinking these days.
I have been contemplating doing what I have to to overclock, see what kind of a difference that makes...

I am a newbie to root. Can Titanium Backup restore the paid apps? because some apps require online verification with Google at the first time of use.
Also, Z4root does not work on my N1. I want to use superoneclick but where can I find the driver for my win7? thanks

If you see the padlock, you've got an unlocked boot-loader. This can't be re-locked.

How to make a backup with stock build?

I have an Aria and I was going to update it to the AT&T Froyo build that just came out today. The phone is not rooted.
If I use Astro to make a backup of my personal data, when I try to load the backup AT&T's restriction message pops up about not allowing third party apps.
So is there any app that can make a backup that does not run into AT&T's sideloading block?

If you root your phone, you will have much better options available to backup your phone. First using ClockworkMod Recovery you would be able to do a full 'nandroid' backup which will preserve your current running system in full and would allow you to revert back if you didn't like something new.
Second, it would allow you to flash a rooted version of the AT&T Froyo 2.2 update and if you didn't like it allow you to restore your previous 'nandroid' backup.
If you simply you a backup app on your non-rooted system and you run the stock AT&T Froyo update, you will not be able to go back.

Well the phone isn't mine, it's my sister's and she usually is petrified when it comes to hacking electronics I know the many benefits of rooting and if it weren't on the stock AT&T build I know this wouldn't be an issue. But is there any other alternative for an unrooted Aria?
I think it is utterly dumb for AT&T and HTC to say "we have an update for you but you will lose your data unless you back it up" and when you try to back it up they don't let you because AT&T has closed off sideloading. Of course this wouldn't be an issue if AT&T themselves provided a way to backup the phone but they do not and thats where my frustration lies.

You won't be able to make a ROM backup because it has no recovery. You can backup apps and then install by allowing unknown sources, or you can move them to the SD. only the phone ROM will be deleted. Not your SD or SIM

But in the Aria they have removed the option to allow Unknown Sources, which is my main problem.
On the last minor update the Aria had, I used Astro to make a backup of the apps and files. After I completed the update, I installed Astro and when I tried to load the backup there was a message that popped up that said the phone could not accept data from unknown sources.
Also, the Aria is on 2.1 right now so I cannot move the apps to SD because that feature is only in 2.2.

They removed it? Maybe it starts in 2.2? Go look on the market for app2sd. Anyways I know liberated FR007 and 8 had unknown sources. 2.1 did not and i don't know about 2.2. Remember if you update to 2.2 through at&t you cannot root your phone as it fixes hboot exploit. There may not be a work around, even though it is your sisters I would think about rooting it if not just to backup your stuff

Ok I will check out Apps 2 SD and see if that works. As long as I can save the apps without my sis having to go back and reinstall everything it will be worth it.

I am going to have my new Desire Z in a few days and I want to root it. I have a question, how can I backup all of oficial rom, kernel, radio ets.? Because I am not sure if I will send it to HTC for warranty in a few months or in 2 years. What do I need to do before rooting my device for not to have any warranty problems? Thanks for now...

Well you're going to have to downgrade in order to get root, which will wipe the device as far as I know.
After you've downgraded and rooted, you can then use ROM manger to make a 'nandroid' backup of the device. It effectively makes a perfect copy of the entire device, and saves it to your SD card. After you flash a new ROM or anything, you can always go back and restore that nandroid backup, putting you exactly where you were when you made the backup.
It should be noted that when you send it into HTC for repair, you'll want to unroot it anyways, which will wipe the device again and return to stock w/ S-ON (you dont want to send it to HTC with your info on it anyways), so keeping the stock rooted ROM isn't completely necessary (although it is a good idea to have around for troubleshooting reasons).

Second; The things that I understand;
1) I have to downgrade and root my phone

Yep you got it. After downgrade/rooting (follow Wiki guide), use ROM manager (download in the market) to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery. Then use that to make a backup. It saves the file to your SD card. Copy that file to your computer for safe keeping (good to have it in 2 places if you really wanna make sure you keep it).
To get S-ON later if you need to send in for repair, follow the Wiki to unroot and that'll be done. It should be noted that unrooting the phone will flash it back to completely stock setup, so the stock nandroid backup isn't necessary to keep in order to send back to HTC. The only real reason to keep that rooted stock backup around is for troubleshooting problems, etc. you can always go back to the stock ROM to try things.
As far as running Virtuous for Sense 3.0 or 2.1, that's all personal preference. I advise just trying different ROMs and seeing which you like. Everyone likes something different. Just remember to nandroid the one you're on before switching so you can go back if need be.

I quess to have a nandroid backup is necessary to send back to HTC before you told me. Thank you for this. I will try lots of roms and decide which one i want.

I was just going to make a post about the same subject until I saw this. I also too want to back up my G2 stock rom. I'm currently returing my old G2 inplace of a replacement G2. I want to know how I can back up the stock rom without rooting? I downloaded rom manager but need root to continue. My old phone was rooted and had all my backups that way. I wanna try out the new 2.3.4 from OTA when I get the notification to do so, but just incase I don't like it I wanna go back to stock then root. So how can I do a full backup without root or doing a factory data reset? Thanks

The only way to do a full backup is to root and use ROM manager to make a nandroid backup. Like I said before, backing up the stock ROM is nice for troubleshooting etc. but in order to un-root you'll have to completely wipe the device and will install the stock ROM again.
If you want to try out 2.3 you can use CM7 (which is stock 2.3 w/ some improvements), or wait for the official OTA to be pre-rooted then you can flash it after you've rooted.

Yea sorry for the confusion if I made it sound that way. The action of un-rooting the device will put it back to stock, you don't have to save the stock ROM. The only reason to do so is if you like to have the stock rooted ROM around just in case you want to try something on it.

Am using Tibu to back up apps now, but am going to 'attempt' to flash a new ROM that's rooted and just in case it doesn't go as planned and I lose root, I'd like to know if there's a app or whatever that allows a unrooted phone the same or near same options and ability to back up apps that Tibu has. Any animal like that exist???

No, Titanium Backup is as powerful as it is because of root access. Without that, there is no way to get the same functionality, no matter what app you're using.
And if you're trying to flash a rooted ROM to a phone that's already higher than 4.4.4, you aren't going to find success...

This shouldn't even be a concern.. You're missing the most important step in flashing a new ROM. It should be in every single ROM thread, for any device here on XDA, its usually the first on the list of instructions...?
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT ROM!!
You do this in your custom recovery, TWRP, CWM or Phils...
This restores your system exactly as it was, when you made the backup, your call logs, messages, apps, app datas, even app caches, if you select it when making the backup..
Backups are one of the main purposes for a custom recovery, if you screw up, you can always go back..
Were you not aware of this till now??
Unless you're intention is to stick with the ROM, that's not rooted.. Not sure why you'd want that, but everyone's different, so I'd recommend using Helium instead of TB, root isn't required with that app..

I'm not on a developer edition. It does not have a unlocked bootloader, so not sure I can 'go back' if the thing doesn't work right. Maybe I'm wrong. But I've heard once you flash past 4.4 there is no going back to root and I'm going to 6. In the past on unlocked units I've had no problems going back. But locked is another animal...it's rooted but not unlocked...
