how to disassemble o2 atom xda

I somehow managed to get water in my screen so now the tapping function doesnt work. I dont know what else to do. I am currently in Beijing and bought it second hand so I'm not sure if the warranty is still in place and if so how abouts to get it to a retailer. The only thing I want to do now is try to open it up and see if I can try to clean up the moisture and water since its still there. I tried opening it but there are only two screws at the bottom back side of the unit that are available to me to get to. I'm not sure how to go about and disassembling the whole thing. The pda is really important to me since I use it as a chinese dictionary. I dont know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated. Bye

Firstly, you can check if it is still under warranty by registering it on O2 website, you will need the original receipt to claim warranty (and moisture damage is not covered by warranty). Secondly, if you want to fix it yourself and I dare say its too late as the battery would need to be removed immediately as moisture enters the device, even if you manage to get an LCD (roughly US$250)and you're able to fit it there's a posibility the main board and components are damaged too. However, I have repaired to some degree with many tedious hours of careful cleaning with pure Ethanol. My advice to you is send it to O2 for repair and do not put the battery into device!

can you tell me how to take it apart? everything seems to be working fine, just that certain areas on the screen i can't tap. I know there are two screws at the bottom back side of the unit where it says void. But other than that I dont know what else to do to get the unit open.

the housing for the camera must be removed, very carefully, under that cover are two more screws.

Thanks zecoj, however I have worked it out for myself and posted in this forum (what I believe is) the crucial stage of disassembly process. I cant believe how nicely designed the Atom is, for all its downfalls I now have new hope in my Atom....

i think the water is in the screen protector..if your unit have a screen protector..i already see and replace my atom screen bcoz i break my lcd and it's all sealed by a static tape..noway to enter a water inside..can you take a picture of your unit that can see the water..maybe you screen is damage..you have to replace it..or lets think not..ill be waiting for your pics..

before i start please my english is not soo good at al *dutch guy*
i'm, very new here,i done some roms and tweaks but all the easy stuff
i have been here around for some months but never posted anything,but alright everything hass a start
to gett to the point i dropt my phone while peeing and i landed on the screen right away.....
now the phone starts and everything is good,after 2hours....
my screen does respond...but i got a black screen........ i see the backlight is onn and i feel the vibration....of the screen sooo the screen is oke??
i got a screw driver sett....for phones ect ect...but does anyone know? if there's a connector loose or something?

If you have insurance cover then claim it if possible
Your LCD seems to be having problems. LCD and digitizer come as one unit. There has been not much success seperating them without damage..
So you need to buy LCD+Digitiser set. Search E-bay.
You can read these threads for more info on this topic and also use search.
You can find the service manual here
Lastly if you are uncomfortable opening it your self you can search for repair stores on the net.

hi.guys~~me too~~~my HD screen was black~~but the phone starts and everythings is good.my screen does respond...
i flash other rom,the screen was black

as they said, i would say buy an lcd+digitizer set of ebay, they are of reasonable price.
next time leave your phone on the table before heading to the bathroom

i have serious problem . my touch screen is not working anymore
from 2 months i dropped mu phone down and after that the touch become not accurate place ( some times i toch in one place and the phone activate another icon about 1 cm far from my touch ) but after 3 days its become normal again . but now the touch screen its not working at all
i dont know what happened and what is the broplem and haw i can fix it .
any help is appreciated

Sounds a lot like you may need a new screen/digitizer. Does any rings appear on screen, i.e. newton rings?

no , no rings appear on screen
but i feel that the digitizer is little bit up from the lift side thats it

Sounds like the datacabel has been broken... or it moved a little bit which causes the troubles.
I think now it moved to fare so no data gets to the phone.
If you know how, try to open it in order to check the connection.
Let me know if you got it or have questions.
(I hope you understand my english) Otherwise i´m going to say it other words.)

i understand what u mean but i dont know where is this cable and haw i can open the phone and reach it .. if u have image or something i can know from it haw this cable looks like it will be great ..

As i didn´t open mine yet i have no pictures nor could find any on internet. But when you know how to open the phone (the screws on the back) you might be able to fix it by checking the cabel. Befor doing this take a look how the cabel looks like (ebay offers them) So you know where to look at. If your unsure how to do it aske someone to do it.
btw you aren´t form germany, are you? In case you are i could offer you to take a look at it or maybe also fix it.

anyway i will try to find this screw driver and then i will start to open it .
but anyway u dont think its from the digitizer ????? right?

If there arent any bigger scratch i don´t think so. because it would cause, that nothing would work at all but you said it did a couple of times although it was a bit wrong.
The other thing is, that i canßt imagine that the Hardware (the board) is broken because this normaly cause bigger damage and could easly effect the other chips and functions on you phone.
This leads me to my conclusion that the data cabel might be broken or isn´t anymore plugged in.
Please sent some sunshine to germany. I could need some between all the ice and snow ;-)

touch screen is not working :((((((

i have problem on my touch hd, first i drop it. second the touch become not in the same place and its happened again and now its not working at all and after along time of trying i found that the digitizer is can be removed totally from the phone and i need to press hard in the west top of the phone to make the touch work and some of my friend told me that this is the digitizer is gone and u need to get another one and i found many on ebay but all of them has yellow part at the back . i dont know haw to fix it and also i dont know what is the yellow part is is this the data cable??? and haw to fix it

Touch screen not working

Hey guys, I have been so much frustrated about my htc topaz....till now it is working perfectly. Since yesterday all of a sudden touch screen stops working...with ballooning effect on screen ...previously ballooning effect was noticed before 3-4 days,but i did not pay attention on it as touch screen working at that time..
What may be the probable cause is it digitizer or lcd screen gone?

If so I have the same problem with a Chinese phone... There is a part of the screen that's not working fine (like a balloon on the left side of the screen). I have to press really hard and press more to the side than it should be
I've already considered in opening the phone to try to solve the problem.

I had the same problem, is very usual in this phone. the tecnical changed the screen.

The problem is that my phone came from China... So I would have to send it there, and that's not an option...

no definately not...it's factory unlocked asian version...also it is t5353 and official stock rom.
by the way how can we differentiate between chinese and factory unlock phone?
have you solve your problem?

Hi, use some standard scotch tape or tesa film. Stick it over the affected area and peel the tape off. This should unstick the digitizer again, it did the job for me quite often...

I have the T5388i dual sim.
I'm no expert on those phones, but I think an easy way to know if the phone is HTC or Chinese version is the front camera side (on HTC is on the right and on the replica is on the left)
Other simple way is if it's dual sim than it's not from HTC.
If I'm telling some mistakes please someone correct me.

Well according to my research...If you have standard htc phone, you have device name t5353,no dual sim,htc written on left side and front camera on right side....

it helped me quite good and temporery, but how to fix it permanently...?

replace the touch screen digitizer.
eBay have many of them...
I have replaced my cracked one last month.

Two fixes for the scotch tape issue
1. Always take along some scotch tape or
2. Replace the digitizer. This can be done faily easily, see some other posts.

I've looked at ebay for the digitizer and I've found many... the question is if they work on my phone?
I have a DUAL SIM T5388i, can anyone point me the right digitizer?
I've tried the tape but didn't worked I don't know if I'm doing it right because I've noticed no diference.

I also have this problem, It just stopped working. I was calling, 10 minutes later when i took my phone and tried to unlock it, it did nothing, when i connect my phone in windows 7 with mobile center, I installed SOTI pocket controller, to check if it was my screen, and it was because via pocketcontroller it worked good, but how do i have to replace the screen thing, and how does it work with the tape,,

Workign Solution Till Now
Hello Friends,
I have TD2 mobile and today I had same issue. I was thinking it was because of the weather or some.
I remember it did happend several time before, but when I restart the device several time it does work. So I was ignoring.... But today it did not work.. looks like going toward end... So I did soft and hard reset without and that did not helped me.
So I switched off the mobile, "heated" the touch screen gently with my hand for 1 min and started the mobile again and it worked for me .
Not sure if this is a solution, but will work.
May be I will contact Service Center here in Hyderbad and see what is wrong here?

Hi, I want to buy digitizer for t5388i, but I didn't find it. I searched at solonomi, ebay, alibaba... Have you any ideas where to buy? Digitizer for t5388i is not same with other t5388 models. Here is picture:
