I created my goldcard and went ahead and followed intructions accordingly to theunlockr.com goldcard guide. Except I used Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 (SAPPIMG.zip) and used update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip (UPDATE.zip) for the process and used the Google ION as the base image and now I don't have fastboot and i get stuck at the HTC screen. I was fine before I downloaded the Google ION recovery image and updated with Aman-RA's bootloader. Nothing works, so is it a comfirmed brick, and if so will T-Mobile take it back seeing as the screen say "HTC Magic"?
Before I get the lecture I understand I hold all responsibility and hold no one liable but myself. Sadly I feel a part of me has died.
I don't know if tmobile is any smarter than rogers, but when i bricked my htc dream, i simply took it to rogers and said that i turned it on and it was stuck at the boot screen.
They gave me a new one without question.
Intresting. Did they replace it then and there. You see I've only had this phone for 2 months with the insurance package and was wondering if they give you a new one then and there, and if they make you pay some sort of fee up front. I'm new to T-Mobile so I have no idea as to wat to expect, but hope that they replace it.
i am tmobile and had a friend who's tmobile and he bricked his. he took it to a tmobile store and said that it told him to update something and now it wouldn't work. i dont know if it was boot screen, i just know he bricked his and they did it no question. not sure about if he had to pay. i dont think so since they thought it was a problem on their behalf. i say try it, if it doesn't work, try again another day with different rep. if that don't work, smash that mofo and just pay the security deposit. better than buying it all over again but this time for like 400$ because of no plan. :S
Yeah i bricked mine a day after having it, and got a new one next day. i dont think it matters when you do it.

Well I called instead and had an Android expert walk me through some steps to try and get the phone to work. She had me hold "HOME" + "POWER" without letting go. I couldn't help but laugh on the inside as she was telling me what to do while I was playing dumb. "Nope... Nothing is happening! The MyTouch 3G screen is still just hanging there ma'am". We did that twice and she finally told me she was sending me a New or Refurbished one with free UPS Express Shipping "yay" since I have the insurance and because its a premium phone.
Another thing to, she had me look at the back of the phone behind the battery for a white, red, or pink dot. Luckily mine was white. She tells me later that thats a water damage indicator and that if its white that the phone is fine otherwise water damage is present. I did not know that, but its useful information nonetheless

I bricked my Rogers HTC Magic and I did the same thing. I called Rogers and told them that when I turned the phone on it was stuck at the rogers logo. They guided me through a small process which obviously didn't work. Then they decided that my phone was dead upon arrival and sent me a new one withing 3-5 days.
he had to wait. ha ha he had one of the old rental phones like the first nokia ever ha ha. didn't even flip rofl.

Right now I'm using a Sony Ericsson TM506 while I wait. Ugh* I got used to having the MyTouch that nothing else feels right. Crappy ass phone. Once I get my replacement I will be giving the SE back to my son.
Sounds bad. have you tried ADB maybe it finds your phone so you can add recovery again.
If you can get into the Fastboot screen (or get any screen for that matter), doesn't it mean your phone ISN'T bricked?
Why were you laughing at pressing home+power that should get you to the recovery screen if it had flashed properly.
Did you try taking out the battery, pressing and holding Back+Power as you reinsterted the battery?
If your phone isn't bricked it would have taken you to the fastboot screen which from there would allow you to boot into a recovery image and reflash your SPL.

I was simply laughing on the inside because I knew that wasn't going to work. I had already tried that before calling and I got nothing from the phone. The Boot loader was taken out when I tried to flash the Google Ion Image to it. Apparently it doesn't come with a bootloader or something. Either way I messed it up, and it wouldn't fastboot.

So tonight I was feeling good and decided to try messing around with my Rogers Dream. The first thing I did was install the latest radio firmware. And after applying the patch I noticed something... the radio and SPL should already be updated because I followed H's instructions on rooting the phone. I prayed that I was wrong. I looked on the Rogers logo as I was booting my phone as a wave of horror washed over me. It's bricked.
Ok, that was dumb. But let's move on. Any suggestions on what I should do? I've looked around and the impression I get is there is no way to unbrick it. Now if I'm completely wrong then I would be most grateful if someone could direct me to instructions for unbricking my phone. If not, I'm going to try sending it back to Rogers... which I don't look forward to doing.
If they don't fix it then would a bricked Rogers Dream help anyone? I'm willing to send it over to anyone who could make use of it.
Edit:

I did as I was told, pretending that I haven't the slightest clue. Now they're sending me a new phone and I have to send mine back so they can check for water damages and stuff; hopefully they don't bother to check for my tampering and then do something horrible to me for doing so.
Thanks a lot for the input guys. Sorry for wasting your time.

Bad idea... water damage is not covered by warranty so he will get charged full price of the device. "Bricked" phone will be revived by HTC and will be sold or set out as a warranty replacements. T-mo users have had their share of bricks so we have an idea of how it works
On the side note.... HTC Dream will most likely survive water damage if you let it dry for about a week. Well, at least my phone did
Aren't there water tamper stickers in these phones? They change colour when exposed to water, so Rogers would find out easily if there is the possibility of water damage.
Hi holdennull,
I have rogers G1 bricked while doing SPL upgrade talk to rogers tech support and they ask me to send the phone and they will send me the replacment, but I have same question that did you charged for tempering or rogers only look for physical and water damanges.
Please advise
Post the date when your G1 was put to rest

Just out of curiosity...what did u guys do 2 brick ur phones ? Just tryna learn from ur mistakes so I won't brick mine
Just make sure you get the LATEST RADIO AND SPL. Make sure you install the RADIO first, then the SPL. DO NOT LET ANYTHING INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS. I just sat my phone down and walked away for 20 minutes. A good thing to do is install the radio and verify it by turning the phone off and hold the camera and powering it up. This also lets you check to see if you have a PVT board. Also, after you install the SPL there will be no ROM on the phone. I thought mines was done after doing this. Just have another SD card with the ROM of your choice on it to unzip.
rooted updated spl and radio fine I make sure I follow steps as posted my developers just wondering if these bricked phones are a result of not following steps carefully or something else. I may read sumthin about 10x before I decide to use it that's just me

10/19/09 Accidentally flashed my MYtouch radio update to my G1. Goodbye MoDaCo Hero G1
Now I'm pretty sure this phone is fried. I'm nearly possitive. Here goes
Updated the radio, went to that neat little screen that says " writing radio" then it shows the arrow to the "rom" image. Well.... its stuck there. after about 30 mins, I thought it was safe to say "remove the battery you f_ed up"
Well rebooted the phone and home + power and cam + power does squat. All the phone shows is that rom image.
Is it safe to call t-mo and ask for a new phone? Could I call it a warrenty issue? Do i Just play dumb and home for the best?

Yeah just go to a tmo store. Say that the phone said there was an update available and you chose to install it, left it alone, went back later and it was stuck on the tmo screen or something. Don't use anywords like "brick" just so they don't get suspicious
Neva eva EVA, pull the battery young one. If you were a doctor trying a new med on a patient on life support and it took a little bit to respond, would you pull the plug. Nope because that patient has family. Well now look at what you did, you got the g1's mamma crying, and his poppi wanting to kill you, and you left the little baby g1s without a father, what is wrong with you. You better watch your back because his brother is a hero and it's not too hard for a hero wanting revenge to become a villian

Good advice, yes, pay attention. now you just have to worry bout the brother hero and poppi, man, your g1 just a illegatimate baby mytouch too, shame on you
Well, T-mo said no on the exchange. Found one with a busted digitizer and swapped some parts and...poof. working g1. New rule of thumb. RTFM...twice. As my late father said, measure twice, cut once. So... back to the drawing board.
Why did they deny the warranty exchnage?
Must not have a mouth piece. I was able to change mine out in the store. I just wouldn't take no for an answer.

Just tell them you got the OTA update and when you updated it and came back to the phone it was messed up (don't say bricked). Play dumb and just act pissed off that T-Mobile did this to you. Just don't take no for an answer. I dropped my phone and it wouldn't turn on. I went to one store and said I dropped it and they wouldn't replace it in the store that I would have to go thru asus (insurance) cause it was physical damage. I then went to another store and told them the excuse I just told you and they exchanged it in store, so no mailing and waiting time. Had a new phone an hour after I dropped my old one.

Do you have to be a T-Mobile customer?
I have a T-Mobile tester sim card so I'm not paying anything. Will it still work?
Today i flashed my Tab with Gingerbread 2.3.3 for the forth time after Moding it a bit while having the Galaxy S plugged in and of course Odin flashed both...
so probably it changed the bootloader on it and now the Galaxy S wouldn't respond to anything,
button combinations dont work
plugging usb and then holding Vol-Up + Vol-Down while slipping battery back does nothing, I even tried the mythical Hair dryer and that took me nowhere
... its dead.
I read somewhere that the JIG is not for my case so i skipped it...
now what? is there anything else i should try? if not, is taking it to good ol' Sammy going to do me any good?
or should i just consider it a very expensive piece of home decoration.
***PS sorry if i posted this in the wrong section.

Sounds like you might need a jtag for it. There is a post on the home page portal maybe a page or two back on how to do it yourself or the guy over at mobile tech videos has a jtag service. It is used for bringing back the hard bricked devices.
I soft bricked my Nexus S last week, freaking scary!
It took me 6 hours to just it alive by trying over 20 method!
I have a MT4G here that has a bad eMMC chip. It will not boot or load any firmware but I can get to the hboot and recovery menu. I am not the original owner. Will HTC still warranty it? How would I go about getting a warranty replacement directly from HTC? Im sure somebody out there has done or tried this before.
Don't get the warranty from htc. Get it from t-mobile. It will make your life much easier
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Will T-Mobile warranty it even though I am not the original owner and I didnt get it from the T-Mobile store? Its a phone I bought off of ebay. Also last time I tried to warranty a MT4G through them (about 4 days ago) they said they were out of stock and tried to give me a Galaxy S 3G.
I got my replacement the other day, and while I was reading through a few things, it said that the warranty does not transfer from customer to customer...might be SOL

That is why I am asking. The warranty info says it does not transfer from customer to customer but I know some people on this forum have gotten ebay or craigslist phones warrantied. I just wanna know how they did it.
Try to transfer to Technical Support when you use Live Chat. I did it on my HD7 which I bought it secondhand and still received a replacement.
I am having the same exact issue, but I happen to be the original owner of the phone. Are they not going to charge me when they find out that my phone is rooted? My phone boots the tmobile splash screen and will get into hboot/recovery, but it will not flash anything.

If it has original hboot/recovery, and can't get past the splash screen, there's 100% no way to tell it was rooted. Someone correct me if that is wrong?

I believe that T-Mobile only checks the order number when it processes replacements. Then again, I am prepaid so I have to send in the faulty device first before I receive the replacement so I am not entirely sure. But I know that my secondhand HD7 (bought on a contract by the original owner) was replaced by T-Mobile without any issues.
Ill talk with a tmobile rep online tomorrow. Mine has the engineering bootloader and clockwork recovery with s-off. Looks like ill be putting some extra voltage through the charging port to try and fry it so they cant even boot it. That way they cant tell it was rooted!

Have you tried flashing the stock ROM/hboot? [ROM]Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.0 3.02.26_M_release
If that doesn't work, you could also try flashing that and pulling the battery so it really bricks and then doesn't turn on...

I think there is one floating around somewhere. It doesnt help when the eMMC chip stops working properly though.

I can try to put one together. I've made a few in my time (coughsignaturecough )
As soon as I figure out how to finally get my phone working without crashing/cache errors
