Repetitive syncing - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I just passed my 8525 to my wife and set it up to synch with her computer.
Everything is working except that the device KEEPS synching. It finishes then a couple minutes later it kicks in again as long as it is plugged into the computer.
Any idea how to stop this? She uses her PC to charge the phone so we do not want to unplug it after synching.
The phone has the latest AT&T Rom. Activesync is 4.5. It was working fine for her 8125 but the usb connector on the phone broke so no more charging.

There are different ways to disable syncing, so read through before deciding what's best for you.

ARRGH! - Constant Probs with ActiveSync

I love my everything about my MDA - However, MS ActiveSync is absolutely terrible to work with and with a mind of its own.
When I first start my PC, ActiveSync works flawlessly. I am able to update and sync my contacts and install programs with no hassle.
However, as the day goes on, it becomes increasingly moody. When I plug in the MDA, there is no indication of it connecting. No swirly green circle etc.. Control Panel does not even indicate that something is connected.
When I plug into the next USB port, there is a "Unknown Device" error. ActiveSync again doesn't activate. I've restarted the comp as well as soft-resetting the MDA but to no avail. I was advised to uninstall all the USB drivers but still no result.
Whats strange though is that the very next day, it works all fine again in the morning and the daily dismal continues! :x
Anybody else facing these problems? I've got ActiveSync 3.8 but also had the same problems with previous AS's. In fact, I've also tried different computers but to no avail!
Do you guys happen to know of an alternative? This spawn of Microsoft is driving me crazy!!
have you tried a differnt usb cable? and does your case effect how far the plug goes when you connect your Magician (assuming your using a case)? just seems like it might not be connecting properly all the time. I had issues similar to yours when i purchased a new sync cable, it had slightly shorter data pins where it connected to my Jam which were not contacting. so it would power up and windows would detect but it would give the same errors.

thanks for the reply mate.
Its strange as I had another miniUSB cable but the problem was still there last time I tried. Very strange - I just hope MS could iron out these problems - I've heard that they are trying to use AS to contest with BlackBerry.
hmmm...it looks like there may be a possible solution to all this. I've researched a bit and apparently ActiveSync only works at the USB port originally used to connect the phone hence why it wasn't recognized by the other port.
But my one wasn't working with either port anyway!
Another suggestion was to hard reset the Pocket PC as this is apparently a common problem. And guess what? it worked!
This suggest there being a problem with the actual PocketPC settings itself - more specifically the ActiveSync settings. As doing a Hard-Reset is quite an inconvenient thing to do, is there anyway to delete/reset the ActiveSync settings without hard resetting?
Thanks again and I hope this is of help to anyone
i had a problem with activesync as well. i was traveling so in that time i had synched my jam with maybe 4 different pc's with activesync, all on guest partnership except my laptop. so when got back it had all these problems with my desktop. for example when i explored my device through activesync and tried to copy something to the computer it would show the copy dialog box but then nothing would be on my pc. i just reformatted my har drive for other reasons and now it works fine.. so i guess reformatting and reinstalling xp works. i did a hard reset on my jam and that didnt do anything.
From time to time Activesync will lock itself up. So go to task manager and shut it down - it's 2 apps, something like wcecomm.exe and something else; there's a number of apps freeware that will do this for you- i'm at work so can't help you more with the filename.
Then restart activesync and reconnect as normal.
Sometimes it does bugger up, but I've only had to reinstall windows once with an SPV.

Active Sync Disconnects Randomly

I flashed my Hermes to the LVSW ROM and it works perfectly except for one thing. When I plug my device in, it syncs up perfectly...but after 5 minutes or so, I hear the disconnect from active sync sound. After that, no matter how many times I plug it back in, try to search for the device, enable active sync through communication manager (which fails)...It just won't reconnect. Restarting my computer seems to be the only way to get it to recognize my phone again.
I'm using XP, Active Sync 4.5, LVSW ROM.

8525+Vista syncs every 2 seconds... won't stop. Help?

I've got an 8525 and Vista Business. Problem is when they are connected they won't stop talking to each other.
This causes no problems on the 8525 but on my PC the window you are working in loses focus every 2-4 seconds while they sync again. I can't find any settings to regulate how often the devices sync. It happens via USB or bluetooth.
I'd like to leave the 8525 plugged in for charging while I'm at my computer.
I've spent time searching here and elsewhere. Any ideas?

Problems connecting

I have a tmobile MDA Vartio2 and I have numerous problems with it and need to upgrade soon but this one I cant sort.
I can't connect via usb to sync with my laptop. If I set up a new connection it will sync but as soon as I reattach to sync it wont recognise the device so I can't keep everything up to date. it isn't the cables - power is fine and they work for other things.
I am runing it as I bought it 17 months ago - no upgrades or cooked roms or changes of any kind.
Can anyone help.
I want to upgrade to something else but I always sell my old ones so I want to sort the issue first obviously even if I sell it.

Try turning off the 'advanced network functionality':
Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> USB to PC
That's what I had to do to get that hack called activestin...^WActiveSync to work reliably via USB.
Really, I've not noticed any difference between having it on and off as far as functionality goes, so really, I have no idea what the RNDIS mode stuff is even good for.
I have just tried your suggestion but now it isn't recognising the device at all. It is seeing it as far as power goes - its charging over USB but activesync isn't seeing it.

Check activesync itself:
File -> Connection Settings
Make sure "Allow USB connections" is checked.
If that still doesn't work, I'd try the uninstall, reboot, reinstall activesync dance and see if that helps any, provided that you are using activesync under XP.
I'd also be suspecting the sync cable. Recharging a device and getting a data connection are two different things. I have a blue angel that wouls charge via the USB sync cable, but would not sync, XP kept complaining about an unknown device. Turned out it was a broken wire in the cable.
Done all of these already I'm afraid - I have 4 or 5 cables and none of them work for this - and I know they are all absolutely fine.
OK, let's take stock of things. I'm assuming that you are using XP.
Hermes with the advanced network functionality turned off doesn't show up at all when you plug it into USB. So, we have a lower level driver issue going on.
Provided that you have not turned off all sounds in your current sound scheme, does the computer make any noises when you plug the phone in? If the data side of the connector on the phone is in order, the computer will make some kind of beep noise when you plug in a USB device.
Also, have you looked at device manager when the phone is plugged in? With advanced network functions turned on, a network adapter should appear. With out the network bits, it should show up as an HTC USB Sync device.
To eliminate something on the phone software-side (I know, you said that you have not touched anything, but try it anyway, this is windows, the environment that gave rise to the term bit-rot), put the phone into boot loader and plug it in to see if the computer sees it. It should appear as a HTC USB Sync.
If it still doesn't show up, I'd be popping over to another computer and checking to see if the phone will be recognized by that system.
For the past few weeks when I plug in I get references to acquiring network addresses (like a wifi network) but then it does nothing. Now I get nothing at all when I connect apart form power.
I have already tried re-installing active sync (just done it again in case I did something wring too)
I refuse to beleive its my cables at this point because I have 3 in front of me that all worked perfectly before everthing suddenly went wrong. Unless someone had cut all of them at the same time - this couldn't have happenned.
I am going to try and plug into the pc and see what happens (as apposed to the laptop which should have the connection.
I think this is good news (on the part of my laptop) because its the same story on the pc.

Double edged sword there...
So we have potentially eliminated the computers (good), this leaves the phone itself (non-good).
Hard reset?
Otherwise, I'd start to suspect the USB connection on the phone itself.
I would say that my chances of rescuing this phone rather than getting a new one are getting slimmer
I think it is probably the port itself and I can't do anything about that one
Anyone want to buy one with non usb syncing functionality ?

Can't connect to Active Sync

IPL: XX.000
OS 5.2.19214
machine can't connect to active sync, orange light constant on. When check under power, it indicates that machine is under charge however, machine is not connected to any usb source.
I've been trying for @ least 10 hrs combined trying to fix it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. -Thanks
Ur have you checked whether ur firewall is blocking the connection?
Try unchecking start>settings>connections>usb to pc.
WM5 or WM6 Software ?
notify service
if you set the automatic starting of notify.dll to manual, then activesync wont start
Uninstall and install again Activesync
Try uninstalling activesync and installing it again. It worked for me.
do you mean your led constantly orange even if it's not connected to usb/power? try this: take the batery out for few minutes & put it back it & turn it on. could be a battery problem.
Are you using the original USB cable?
I had the same problem until I realize I was using an old cable of an external usb disk. You need one with the small cylinder near the phone side or it won't sync (but it will charge without any problem).
