Android IM Client Help - Android Software Development

Hello,
I was working on adding some additional functionality to the IM client I got from here code.google.com/p/simple-android-instant-messaging-application/. Can anyone help me out with the issues I am facing?
Note: I am using emulator and not the original phone
Issue #1
I cannot connect to Google chat to retrieve the contact list or begin chat. Same issue is with yahoo and other clients. I tried using simple IM but the issue is that It says cannot establish a secure connection. I tried out HTTPS sites in my browser and I cannot access them. I can only access normal sites. I am behind a proxy and I have set the proxy in the phone settings. Only normal sites are accessible.
Any help?

[WiFi] POP3 e-mail doesn't work

I can connect my device to the in-house Wlan and I get assigned an IP address like it should. I am able to browse the net (IE) using the Wlan and I can even go to the HTTP webmail site but when I set up a POP3 e-mail account I get the error message that I cannot connect with the current settings. Suggestions?
The other strange thing is that I am able to login on a local server using Terminal Services, but I can only connect to the IP address, not the hostname.
Perhaps I should mention that I have an own domain so the mailbox I'm trying to connect is a completely seperate mailbox and should work 'native' with POP3 port 25 settings. This shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see, but it still doesn't work...
I did some more testing, the weird thing is that I can send e-mails using the WLAN connection, but cannot receive them. The connection towards the server seems to be good (I didn't use seperate settings for SMTP) so DNS seems to be correct as well.
Right, I'm not under the impression a terribly large population of users are dying just to solve my problem, but since I located the source of the problem I thought I'd post it here for other users to find.
The problem I was faced with had actually nothing to do with the WiFi at all, it was the POP3 server that was the problem. The connection was fine, sending the mails was fine it's just that the POP3 daemon of the Direct Admin hosting control panel (vmpop3d-e) is unable to work with Windows Mobile 5 due to some kind of problem I don't even begin to understand (nor would I want to).
If you have your own domain and your hoster is running the Direct Admin control panel you won't be able to use the e-mail POP3 function. Instead, use the IMAP4 function which does work.
DA Forum PDA topic
when you set up your mailbox (menu - tools - options) go to the 3rd screen and click options. There you tell it what connection you want. I'd be willing to bet thats where your problem is.
E-mail client doesnt work on my wizard eather. I can receive mail, but sending it is impossibl. I think I tried everything.
If anyone have any suggestions what can I do please tell me.
THX
@primossz, you're pretty active on this forum
You need to first install the client software provided by your're ISP. So if you use T-mobile you can let T-mobile send the parameters via SMS to yor're cellphone. Just login to your're ISP provider for that on the WWW.

Anyone having problems accessing Webmail via Oulook Web Access?

I have seen this same problem covered on forums for the Diamond and also on Opera related sites, but not really seen a solution as yet...
I'm having real problems accessing my company Webmail via Outlook Web Access (OWA) within Opera. Each time I do it, instead of getting the login screen I get a cookie authorisation problem where it tries to download 'CookieAuth.dll' (opening or saving does no good).
Through messing about I managed to get it to work ONCE! When i tried to replicate the scenario (clearing cache/cookies etc) it didn't work again .
I can get it to work through Skyfire, but I'm not entirely happy about using it here as pages are rendered on their servers...
I know some of you will say why don't you set it up to sync via ActiveSync, but I believe work have put some kind of block serverside which prevents me from doing this, so for the moment I'm stuck.
Any suggestions folks?
Had a similar problem myself and it was down to my office server using two versions of web access and one being outdated.
My resolve came from a simple change of web address.
Ask your Network admin if they have an alternative address for access.
Instead of the original owa.xxxx.xxxx I was told to use webmail.xxxx.xxxx for ours.

Thanks for your reply Farsquidge. Hmm, yes I'm using a webmail.xxx.com address - I think this is actually due to a problem with Opera, but you say that you can access it okay now?
I use OWA to my work without any issue
Why not just set up active sync instead?
Edit: uhm.. sorry
No problems accessing webmail.xxx.com on my end.

WLAN :: Browser authentication trouble

Hey guys,
At my school the students have access to an open WiFi network. The internet connection is routed through a local proxy, and when we first open the web browser we are presented with an authentication page where we input username and password. Using Firefox, Chrome, or any other browser on a regular computer, this works just fine.
On my Hero however, something prevents it from working correctly. I get the authentication screen, input my username and password, I click Login, but from here nothing seems to work.
The proxy spits out a message saying something like "authentication successful, logging you on to the network", but then it says something about a DNS timeout, and that I have to restart my browser to gain internet access.
Obviously, that doesn't work. I tried once to load google.com, using its IP and it worked I think (given that the browser didn't load it from the cache). I guess the problem somehow relates to the way Android handles DNS.
My Hero is not rooted, and for various reasons I'm not planning to do it either. Running latest official ROM.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as IT on my school doesn't seem to actually know anything about the authentication process.
I also have problem with secure login but in my case I can't load the securelogin page where I need to enter the user name and password.
Non android phone don't see this problem and also I don't have this problem with my android at my home with open WIFI.
I am using HTC Hero G3 with official android 1.5.
Hi, has anyone been able to make this work?
I'm also having the same experience but with my x10mp.
the browser login page is not displaying so i'm unable to use the wifi.
shameless self bump.
i have already tried 2 apps (Open Wifi Login and Browser Wifi Login) that should have solved this but did not.
can anybody help with this issue?

Cannot sign in to any IM clients?

I am facing an issue with my HTC HD2.
I am not able to sign in to any of the IM clients (IM+, Palringo, Nimbuzz etc.)
There is no error message about connectivity failure and all the programs fail to connect me to any of the services like yahoo, gtalk etc. Just keep reconnecting to the servers/client services.
Also, i am not able to configure yahoo mail on my handset. If someone has done it before pls guide me through on how to setup Port configurations for POP3/IMAP4!
The browser and weather updates are working normally and I am able to use the other programs using data connection.
Do i need to manually configure settings in each of the IM programs?
Pls suggest
Any pointers/help is appreciated!

[Q] Can´connect to my Exchange Web Account

I have a problem with the stock browser, i can´t use my exchange web access account? I get the login box to enter username and password, but the server refuses to connect. Same with dolphin hd. Firefox and opera mobile browsers work well?
Anyone with the same problem?
i doubt it's the stock browser as i was able to connect to an exchange 2007 and exchange 2010 web access with zero issues. it's possible that it could be your owa setup. my buddy, in local law enforcement, was also able to log into his dept's owa account without issue.
I can connect to OWA on Exchange 2003 using the default browser without a problem as well.
I have the same problem. It works with Firefox but not with stock. I built the Exchange environment in my company and I know it's properly configured. I can access it on my HTC Sapphire (I know it's old) stock browser.
When I get a chance, I'll check the logs and if I find anything, I'll let you know.
I was having the same problem. I had to contact my IT dept and they gave me good information. It seems that for the outgoing server, I had to put "es8000" in front of the email address such as: es8000.email.xxx. The security type was TLS/authentication and my port was 25. Now these may be different for you but you may need to verify the outgoing specs.

Remember, getting it up and running is half the job. When we set ours up, exchange was configured correctly, but the firewalls (both internal and external) caused havok.
Owa does work, I use it daily. If you're sure your exchanges is setup correctly, then you may need to start looking at everything else in between, as something else isn't right

Looks like Windows 2008 doesn't have SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 by default. I found that you just add the appropriate Registry entries. I'll let you know if this works.

EDIT: Didn't help after the restart...still investigating.
