Is there a way to customize the functions of the long press of the end key in winmo 6.1?

To what? The reason I ask this is to see if you've already tried the built-in customizer:
Start > Settings > System (tab) > Long Press End Key
This only allows a few choices. For more options, lots more, you can use the AE Button Plus app, which has a free trial version and reasonable cost for full and nag-free activated version.

AE Button Plus 2.5....nice on Athena.

For those who are not familiar with this nifty yet inexpensive bit of software, AE Button allows multiple actions (up to 4) to be programmed to the buttons of your Pocket PC...and is perfectly compatible with the Athena.
I really feel the need for this after having had so many buttons on my long gone HTC Hermes.
I've configured some basic functions on mine so far with pleasing results and no incompatibilities so far.
Joystick configuration:
1 click = 'Enter' (no change there)
2 clicks = 'Open File Explorer' (that has simplified things for me somewhat and is very intuitive to use this way as 2 clicks opens a folder and 1 click confirms my selection)
Comm Manager configuration:
1 click = 'Switch on wi-fi' another click switches it off
Long Press = 'Switch on Blutooth' another Long press switches it off
Camera Button Configuration:
1 Click = 'Camera application' (no change here)
Long Press = 'Opens Resco Photo Viewer' (similar category of applications on one button - again intuitive)
OK Button Config: (On device - not keyboard)
1 click = 'Really closes apps' (linked to Wisbar's OK/Close function)
That's all I've done so far, but then I have at least 2-3 more configurations per button if I need it, which has also freed up space on the 'Start Menu' - only 7 choices allowed by default.
It's worth a look if you don't allways want to go through the various option menu's to get to that one or several important apps or folders or to simply initiate something.
Just considering a quick soft-reset by double clicking the Windows key...1 click brings up the cascading menu (wisbar)...would be nice to soft-reset on a double click (but this particular Windows key is usually tricky if at all possible to reconfigure like the other ones).
Anyway just wanted to share this in case anyone else found it useful.
THANK YOU!

I'm so grateful that you posted this. I was about to purchase Vito Button Manager but the program isn't exactly what I wanted. You can't see the joystick, ok button on device, etc. And I wanted more options, like the four you mentioned here. Great job on providing us with this info....and in my case just in time. Thanks again bro!
So can you program every button on the device? Even the Windows icon button and the browser button?
Thanks from me too. The one thing I knew I would miss from my current PDA (which has 6 programmable buttons each in press and press and hold mode).
Looks like a great alternative.
Great heads up thanks. I'll be adding this as soon as I've customised my Vista-esque, TrueVGA, WA/WAD setup to my liking (spending waaay too long on it!).
Glad I could help guys.
BTW, the 'Windows key' under the 'OK' button (on the device itself) won't let me configure it, so I have now added a 'Long Press' to the Joystick to soft-reset. It works very well and quicker than 'psshutXP' or any other SIP alternative.
Also changed the 'Comunication Manager Button' to:
1 click = Wi-fi on/off
2 clicks = Bluetooth on/off
Long Press = Opens Comm Manager (retaining original functionality)
Note: Had to enable the long press mode of 'Voice Recorder' to = Open Comms Mangr aswell, otherwise it caused a conflict.
How did you get the joystick and the OK button to program? I tried ADD BUTTON but no luck. What hex shows up for the added buttons?
When I did the install I got the 3 buttons plus press and hold, green phone, red phone, left softkey, right softkey, up, down, left, right, enter/action, vol up, vol dn.
Hope this helps.

Lucky for you I'm still up. Ha ha.
Anyway...the Joystick button is already recognized as 'Enter/Action'. Simply select that option and click in the big blank box directly below.
1st Option = 3.'Handle by AEBPlus'
2nd Option = 1. 'Single press' &
3rd Option= 'Press Enter' (this retains the default function)
Then 2nd option = 2. 'Double press' (in the drop down option box below chose) 2. 'Run application' & below that chose 'File Explorer'
Then return to 2nd option drop down box again:
= 4. 'Long press' & in the box below chose;
= 37. 'Soft-Reset your Device'.
That's it!
The OK button should show up as 'Win Key', Button #4075...I have only assigned this to open 'cascading start menu', as this is a system key/button as is the 'Windows' key directly beneath it and they are either complex or presently incapable of being re-mapped.
Hope the above explanation was not too confusing, but it's late and I'm probably functioning on 0.001% of the less than 5% of brain power I'm capable of using at best. lol.
Good luck
Thanks Mackaby007!
I was able to get the OK key mapped as:
1. Show today
2. Ostia (my GPS)
I figure I'll add ilauncher and always be only two taps from the app I need.

No probs hammermedia. Glad you got it configured.
I also would like to suggest PQZII to customize keyboard and to have ok button to really close applications.

There's another button in the menu which selects 'Voice Recording' on a long press through the comms button. This is causing your conflict.
You need to assign control of that function to AEB as well and then assign Comms manager via long press.
So effectively you have to configure that 'long press' function twice! Once in the Comms Button and once for the pre-programmed 'Voice ' recorder, as it uses the same button.
Hope that was clear. Let me know how you got on.
well, I have assigned 'long press' function twice like you said but no effect...
Hi Mackaby007, thanks for sharing.
I am using the Dopod U1000 CHT, loaded the English cab, and always got problem going into the Buttons setting (just hang), need to soft reset and go in again. When I am able to go into the buttons setting, I can only config (under normal windows setting) these buttons
Button1, Camera
Button2, Opera Browser
Button3, Comm Mgr
Button3 (press & hold), Voice Recorder
I tried using BurrOak Hotbutton Plus V3.0, new version, with nicer graphics. Assign HotButton Plus to a button3 (biggest easiest to press) - repeatedly pressing the button will cycle through your jog tasks (I have enable Phone & SPB full screen keyboard).
http://www.burroak.on.ca/hbplus.html
Anyone can provide me the full register for the hardware button, so I can also control other button (press & hold)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys, currently I have only 40C1 (button1, camera), 40C2 (button2, Opera Browser), 40C3 (button3, Comm Mgr) and 40C4 (button3 press & hold, voice recorder)
The AE button plus ver 2.41 onwards cause problem with CallSMS Blocker. If AEB is installed on the device then the CallSMS Blocker causes the phone to hang. The PPC's other functions continue to work properly...Any body faced such problem??

Hi johnnykok. Sorry can't help you with that app. It's the first time I've seen it. Looks nice though.
Having said that, I would imagine that the memory footprint of this app might be bigger than that of AEB, plus I have no issues with AEB, so probably won't even look at anything else.
I usually stick to what works for me unless I come across a problem. Sorry.

Try version 2.51 That's what I'm using. C if you still get that conflict....if so, write to the developers as they are pretty good and will try to incorporate a fix by the next release, but try their latest version first.

Asci...you have to assign the long press function to 2 different buttons.
1st button is the comms button (above the power button)
2nd button is the same button physically, but it's the long press function that Windows has assigned to it, which is 'voice recorder'. That virtual button is in the main menu and has an icon that looks like a cassette. You have to configure that button to allow AEB to handle it first, then assign the long press function of it to open comms manager.
If you don't do it this way, there is a conflict because windows has assigned that function on a long press and you have already assigned a function to that using the comms button....it's all a bit confusing.
See the images below. Hope this helps.
@ mackaby007

Would you have any screenshots of what this utility does? I couldn't find any on the website provided.
Also, doesn't the Athena/x7500/Advantage come with a Task Manager that allows for this functionality already? Start, Settings, System...then click on Task Manager.

How to assign a hardkey to HTC Quick Menu (Task Manager)?

I like HTC Task Manager's feature, that enables the Quick Menu when pressing the X-button. But I would like to acces the Quick Menu with a hardkey.
Does anybody know how that can be done?
Give SPB Pocket Plus a try.

Yes, SPB Pocket Plus has the taskmanager like the Quick Menu. But the reason why I like the one from HTC - is because it is finger friendly.
I have tried the Touch Commander Suite - it has a great task manager (quick menu). But it is not that consistent in its performance - and it keeps closing down - and the only way to get it back is with soft reset. :-(
I thought he meant how to assign a hardware button ... use the button feature from Pocket Plus was my suggestion NOT the task mgr.
actually just coming in my head... do you mean HTC Action Screen. This works perfect with Pocket plus (I have it on long press PTT on my AT&T Tilt).

No, I mean the Quick Menu that you can see on the attachment.
Yes, I'm thinking about this too considering that HTC Task Manager is only available on the Today Screen. It would be nice to be able to access it while in other applications. So, I guess a hardware key mapping is the best solution. Anybody?
Pocket Plus has an "Alt-Tab" function which can be mapped to a hardware key. It'll open a window and either with the stylus or scroll wheel you select the task, press OK (or press the scroll wheel) and you are there.

If you only want to access that from today screen, HButton does a good job for that. I add the "OK/Close" function to one of the HButtons, and assign that to the "OK" button in the settings->buttons. This way I can use the "OK" button to close most of the running programs, and while in today screen, one hit on the "OK" button will bring up the list of programs in the picture you attached.

The problem with the Alt-Tab function is, that you are not able to close one (or all) of the programs - like you can with the Quick menu

You have to install HButton.
I use Handy Menu, not free though. 4.99 I think. It also gives you some other functions, and it is configurable. I have it mapped to long press camera button.
Quick Menu 2.7 does exactly that. All you have to do is tap the start menu. a list of programs running and an X to kill them.
Much quicker than looking for a way to edit taksmanager/Xbutton3(?)
Highly recomend it. I don't use anything else.
Also, you can cook it too:
Install the app; set up your options; export the registries; make a package from the cab (for dsm/rgu ); copy the contents of the reg export to the rgu using text editor. Package complete! now you can cook it and have your options be like you need them.... and there are so many!

I did, thanks wearefree for the tip. Use HButton, its OK/Close button handling is different from OS, so it makes exactly what we need. I mapped HW button 2 on my Wizard to HButton and it simulates OK/Close. When any app is in front it minimizes it and when I'm on today it shows HTC Quick Menu.

Change Start Menu Button action?

Is there a way to change the behavior of the Start Menu Button? Basically i'd rather have it simply show the today screen rather than the actual menu. Alternatively i'd even prefer that it ignore the press and not show the menu. With many of us already having application launchers on the today screen, the start menu is redundant.
I apologize in advance if this is inappropriate for this forum.
To avoid not being able to access the start menu at all, you could enable it with a long key press of the start menu button.
Tap = return to Today Screen
Hold = show Start Menu
This would seem like a nice thing to have. Is such a thing possible? Perhaps with Mortscript?
What PDA do you have?
If you have a PDA/phone you just do a single press of the "hang up" button?
WM itself doesn't allow to change the start menu action. However, it's possible to put another app on top, like WisBar Advance, SKMenu, and similar tools do. But I don't know of any free and lightwight app which only replaces the start menu button.

I agree! Have searched this for a long time, but it seems it can't be done.
I would love if Visual Task Manager started when i press the windows icon.
Please return if you find a application to replace the start menu button. Thanks, i offer a kiss in payment

Just that the icon becomes so ugly but i think it's worth it

Assigning volume buttons as scrolling up/down

Is there possible to assign volume control buttons as up/down scrolling?
There can be options
- better is if on home screen they works as volume control, for applications as scrolling
- always scrolling
- scrolling only in certain applications
?
Also, is there possible device tilt for scrolling?
maybe you check "AE Button Plus". a lot of discusiion around here
Is is possible?
Yes it is possible - I use it.
I have set it up do do exactly as you as you ask where a "short press" of the up/down volume buttons will scroll up and down and a "long press" will change the volume as normal.
You can download it here http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php

I bought the app as I use it all the time and thought it fair to the developer even though I don't actually use the additional functions in the reg version.

You should be able to map long press send, long press end and long press power. It should work like the Fuze. Check out this articles but I bet it's identical:
http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1751
Here's one on making it the start menu: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
The mapped long press buttons take 3 seconds or so...not sure it's great for that unless you try DredSensor but then you'd lose a physical button (short press) to something else...
Is the long press timeout option in the settings the time one has to "long press" in order to trigger what he sets? Coz you can set it from 200ms to 900ms. I am guessing this is the time required to trigger a long-press response/activation.
I would suggest you send an email to the AEB developer. I did once and he responded in the same day.
He could probably guide you much (v. much) better than I on all the options in AEB+ (including "long-key press mode")
thanks Dave.
For a temporary fix,(or perhaps a preferred alternative?) I have set up volume to scroll up and long press (which is barely a second) to start menu (shows quick menu not original start menu) and volume down to scroll down and long press of it to ok/action. This way I can pull down the start menu with a little press, scroll up/down and then select an item or enter the submenu using the down button.

just press the end call button. or you can go to start>settings>personal>buttons then set it to where one of the hardware buttons takes you to home.
Long Press End Key has 2 different tabs under Settings/Button. One on the settings application itself and another one under "program buttons". The one on the settings application itself overrides whatever I put into "Programs Buttons" for long hold of end key. Any ideas?
